Alright, Haskins it is.
Hope Martell is ready to play at a moment's notice. And I hope that Burrow recovers quick and feels better soon.
And Toledo still sucks.
Hope Martell is ready to play at a moment's notice. And I hope that Burrow recovers quick and feels better soon.
What are the chances that a 3rd string QB is ever gonna have to play, and be expected to do well?
“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” - Mark Twain
Technically Martell would still be the 4th string QB if we made it to him going off the Miller/Barrett/Jones situation, but I get your point that you never know! There is a real chance tho that Haskins will have to take meaningful snaps at somepoint this year due to a concussion on something similar knocking JT out of a game.
All I can say is, I'm glad Beck/Warriner is not leading that room anymore
“Well, Tate is in the mix,” Meyer said last week. “Tate gives us a weapon. He’s done some really nice things for us.
Terrible, terrible blow for the young man. Injuries are the worst.
No silver lining. The team will be fine, but for a guy who has done everything right and has the respect of his teammates, this just sucks.
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
I am always a little anxious to log onto 11W this time of year....hoping NOT to read about one of our players getting injured. God speed to Joe Burrow.
Well I guess it is now decided.
Yup. Heart goes out to Joe and his family.
Get well soon Joe
Sucks for Burrow, got a good feeling that Haskins may not relinquish the backup job
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
I agree. Bad time for such a terrible break for Burrows. Sometimes you go down then never get a chance again
Tracy Sprinkle showed the opposite.
Regret that I have but one upvote to give.
I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home low...
I didn't say always. But more than not it is the case. Tracey Sprinkle is a player in a position that is currently thin. Quarterback is just the opposite
I hate seeing players get injured. Get better joe.
The lord of brevity.
Sorry to hear it, he's worked very hard to get where he is.
Quick heals for sure, John!!
Funny how things work themselves out sometimes, right?
Stay tuned, this one is far from over...
"Defiance in Silence"
Get well, Joe. We will need you sooner or later.

Someone check on Buckeye Jack and get his thoughts on the starting QB at Ohio State going down again.
Hopes for a swift recovery for Joe.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
Get well soon, Joe.
F'n injuries man. Get well soon Joe
Get better Joe.
Fortune favors the bold.
Hope Joe recovers in time to play some mopup football this season, though at this point Haskins seems to have won the backup job for sure.
I think we've long understood that with all the talent in the quarterback room someone was going to transfer to find playing time. Burrow looks more likely now to be that transfer.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
Glad the QB room is packed with talent and more is on the way but honestly I didn't even think about Burrow transferring but you might be right.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Every injury is different obviously, but as a point of reference Deshaun Watson broke his hand a few years ago and was out 5 weeks. So its possible Burrow can come back, but at that point I'd have to think Haskins will be pretty entrenched.
That's a good point, but wasn't Deshaun already considered the starter when that happened?
Getting injured while you're in a contest for 2nd/3rd place is a different matter.
Great point Miami - things change when you're not the number one man
That sucks. Heal quickly, Joe! You're one of the good guys and can compete for the big job once JT leaves.
OH-IO living in SEC! SEC! Ville
next man up.
I'm a huge Joe Burrow fan- this sucks
Yea, me too. I feel for him and his parents. He clearly beat-out Haskins for the back-up role.

Man, that sucks. Totally ruins what was without question the most intriguing battle at camp.
Dwayne Haskins, you're up, soak it in and take your place as the heir apparent.
Get better Joe!
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
And just like that, we are reminded you can never have "too much depth" at QB.
Well, but what if you had, like, 17 QBs on your roster??? /s
Then you'd be prepared for 16 broken hands, mate.
My Wednesday just got better
I saw Ryan Day hang 62 on Michigan...His hair was perfect.
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
Joe - heal up quickly
We are all behind you
Bah. I feel for the kid. I really liked Burrow's game and was hoping he would get significant playing time this year because I think he would light up the stat card next year as a starter. You have to think he's not going to gain that #2 spot back now and will be a transfer candidate come spring time. Damn.
Heal up, Joe. Best of luck.
attempting to be an adult
I do agree that it is very likely Haskins gets a bunch of game reps the next 6 weeks, and that it will definitely be hard to switch up the back-up battle mid-season.
I'd say the loser of the QB battle in the spring is more likely to be the transfer candidate (whoever that may be).
Damn it ! I really love JT , I think Haskins has freakish abilities, but damnit, I really want to see Joe Burrow get his shot next year.....I think he's handled himself really well and I sincerely believe he could be a very very good QB....injuries suck....get well soon JB.
"I don't want to be around average, why be around average!" -UFM
It's one thing to have freakish abilities like Haskins.....but it's another thing to have good QB chops, which I think Burrow has. This is a huge setback for at least the month of September. Better keep JTB upright and healthy, O line!
I see what you did there KJ
There's no positive here really, certainly not one for Burrow, but this does allow the coaching staff the ability to delay any decision that could piss someone off and lead to a transfer. I mean, one of those guys had to be the third guy in. I'm just being Mr Bright Side because this sucks.
Damn !!!....Heal quickly Joe..........Go Joe................Go Bucks
Good luck to Joe in his path to coming back stronger.
But is it new info about Messi?
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Best wishes for a good recovery.
Sucks, but if we make it through fall camp without any other injuries, consider it a win.
Wait! I thought this was all hashed out last night and determined to be BS! I want another reliable source before I fall for any fake news.
Seriously, I wish you the best in a speedy recovery, Joe. The Buckeye nation shares in your sorrow but remain behind you 100%.
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Well... if we believed every rumor without credence to the source, Les Miles would be a (likely former) Michigan HC, Saban would be gunning for multiple Nattys at Texas, Barrett would be out with a broken hand, Florida's HC would be facing bestiality charges, multiple schools would've received the death penalty, and so on. So... maybe it's still best to approach rumors with a fair degree of skepticism.
But yeah, sucks to hear about Burrow. Going to be hard to beat out Haskins once he gets going. But I have a feeling we haven't heard the last from him -- whether that's at Ohio State, or (more likely) elsewhere.
Well this makes me nervous
Man, the Ohio State armchair QB coaches are going to be unbearable after Dwayne Haskins plays in mop-up time against Indiana next Thursday.

*Haskins hands off for a 4 yard gain*
Burrow would have audibled into a 60 yard TD pass smh
Somewhere in the great white North, a Wisconsin fan is having nightmares about a new OSU 3rd string QB.
And he can still throw better than J.T.
--Someone we all know
And he can still throw better than J.T.
--Someone we all know
Get well soon, Joe. The QB rotation awaits you.
Hope his recovery goes well and he is able to continue to develop. Now we will for sure see if Haskins is as good as advertised, because the schedule looks to offer a fair amount of mop-up duty for someone in September. Sad for Burrow. Haskins hype has been out-shining him, but he showed great touch, poise, and decision-making last year, in actual NCAA FBS football games, regardless the competition.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Wishing a quick recovery for Joe B, eager to see him return this season.
What really stinks is that it is his throwing hand. I thought the black jersey signified that you can't be hit. It will be interesting to see if it was a finger. Meyer's recruiting pitch can continue to top rated QB's. You are one play away no matter how deep we are.
Contact still happens. I can't recall who it was but a NFL qb hurt his hand letting it come down on the helmet of a defender who got in his face in practice. While defenders can't tackle a QB in practice, many are encouraged to get in the QB's face to simulate pressure.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Roethlisberger did in 2011, I'm sure its happened a bunch since then
That NFL player was probably Big Ben. I didn't know they could get that close.
No. The rushers are constantly told to not come close to the QBs throwing motion.
I didn't say they were told to get into their motion but I have seen many cases as a player and fan where the defense is encouraged to harass the QB without making contact.
I understand. And your right, by jumping as they throw and yelling as they rush, so true. But don't get to near... you are right.
I thought the black jersey signified that you can't be hit
Pfftt like JT was going to let a black jersey deter him from securing his place at the top of the depth chart
Shandy is not beer
So JT moves up to 2nd best qb.
Kinda funny, but certainly not true.
m GO BLOW!!!
Stand up, Tate! Oh, wait...
"Look at you!" Haha
You say I'm boring, I say hardly. Let's get together and have a pizza party.
That joke came up a bit short.
Welp, that sucks. Heal up quick young man. Everyone on the outside questioned the crazy QB recruitment over the past 2-3 seasons, this is why.
How the heck did a QB wearing a black, no-contact, jersey get hurt in practice? Feel bad for the young man, heal quickly young Buckeye.
I would guess he just hit his hand on a helmet while following through on a throw. Even if a defender pulls up and doesn't hit him, they'd still be close enough for this to happen.
Whatever happened, it's very unfortunate and I hate it for Burrow.
That sounds like the most logical assessment, JO5. I read where he will only be out 4-6 weeks so I wonder if a medical red shirt would be out of the question at that point.
Burrow already used his redshirt season in 2015. He isn't eligible for a medical redshirt.
He could theoretically apply for a 6th year waiver (2020) after 2019.
Get well soon, Joe! I still expect one helluva competition next season between you and Dwayne for the starting job.
Get well Joe!
So after yesterday's forum speculation of did the injury happen, now that it's confirmed, SOME folks will now wildly speculate and rant on about Burrow definitely being the one to transfer.
While this avenue of connecting with Buck fans is nice, sometimes it seems forgotten that the football players will so enjoy watching play the game, are also real people! IJS
We're all guilty at some point of getting carried away. That being said, the great thing about this site is that 99.9% of us are respectful and good peeps.
703Buckeye, agreed; present company included with forgetting. When I ran across the first post yapping about Burrow surely gonna transfer, I stopped and made my first post.
What do you mean 99%? What are you trying to say about GrandTheftHarley?
It's certainly not "wild" speculation that someone will transfer.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
NEVER said someone wouldn't transfer, I said "wildly speculate that Burrow would DEFINITELY be the one to transfer". Oh well!
Prayerfully Burrow has a full recovery!
Well, Joe will be the next great QB at Nebraska, I guess.
We've accomplished a statistical phenomenon with a 3rd string QB a few years back, I think we'll be more than OK.
Get better soon, Joe. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Big Joe Burrow guy, this sucks.
Wonder if it means Martell doesn't redshirt now....
Barring two major injuries in the first ~2 months of the season, this shouldn't affect Martell. Joe will be back as the third-stringer by Week 6ish.
My guess is Martell still redshirts, and Burrow either medical redshirts or transfers. No chance Martell sees the field in mop up duty...only way he sees the field is if JT is knocked out for the year in one of the first two games.
Burrow can't medical redshirt. He already used his redshirt year.
My understanding was a medical redshirt could get a person a 6th year of eligibility...can that only be used in the case of injury happening in final year of eligibility?
A 6th year of eligibility can be applied for, only after all other eligibility has been exhausted (as happened with Corey Smith)!
Rats!!! Heal up quickly Joe and come back stronger than ever.
Fields of Dreams
Man that really sucks for Joe, you hate to see anyone from any school get hurt this close to the start of the season. Hopefully, as some have mentioned, this will only be a 5-6 week recovery for later on in the season. This just illuminated the need for our offense to click so that young Mr Haskins can get some game reps in.
Injuries Suck, nearly as much as tTUN.
ONE Not Done!
Hope it heals well Joey. Next man up.
Probably smacked it on a helmet?
1. Start putting foam skull caps on the DL.
2. As Woody would say, "It's time for the young turk." Haskins just came from Ankara instead of Maryland.
3. Martell will become a change-of-pace QB in relief of Haskins. Teams will have to take precious limited time to prepare for his skill set. Google highlights of Xander Diamont to see what I mean (some painful.)
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
Heal quickly, Mr. Burrow. TOSU will likely need your services before this season is over.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
Joe Burrow will miss the start of the season after breaking a bone in his throwing hand
This clip is quickly rising to the level of best GIF on the internet. It's no 85 yards but it will do in times like this.
Get well soon Joe!
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
And Joe might be q.b. next year somewhere else, just guessing.
Unless he grad transfers, he'd be on the bench somewhere else next year.
Joe will be graduating next May; he will have options!
He is a redshirt sophomore. He has another academic year beyond 2017/18..unless he's on a fast track three year degree..
I read blitz
Joe is a bright kid and a very good student; he's on target to graduate May 2018.
Folks fail to realize that because the players are required to do Summer School (generally 6 hrs, can be 9), this accelerates progression towards a degree.
For the players that really want their degree, it can often be had in 3.5 years and in some cases, 3 years as Collier did. If he'd chosen to grad transfer, Collier would've had 2 years to play elsewhere.
Keep in mind, there are guys that enter OSU with AP credits. I'd heard that Trout was a high achieving student, as a result, with his degree in hand. He's eligible to play for Cincy this year!
I'd hate to lose Burrows, but if he graduates and Haskins is entrenched as the starter, it might happen.
It would be a challenge for him to start elsewhere, though, given he won't graduate until May. Wouldn't this keep him out of the spring practice picture for another team?
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"

Not if he drops to a lower division...
nah, sucks, whatever the script being written for Urbans 6th year, won't be what anyone expects
Very unfortunate. I was excited to see Joe in action this year. He is an extremely good QB, and I would have liked to see him get a shot this year.
"Most Noahs have two of everything, he's got four tonight" - Gus Johnson on Noah Brown's 4 TD catches against Oklahoma.
Some people seem to be assuming that this is a season-ending injury. Unless it's a really bad break, he could definitely be back by October.
Burrow has NFL type talent, size, and overall accuracy. I was surprised he wasn't already the unanimous number 2. That said, God speed on the recovery young man. If ever I was to have confidence in a backup to come in and take over for JT without losing a beat, it would be in Burrow.
Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit ...... you get the idea !!! Heal up fast, Joe and get back into the rotation soon .....
Rumor was he had done very, very well this fall so chances are he will be backup when he gets healthy However that probably depends whether or not Haskins shines when given opportunities.

Good thing we have 2 serviceable backups

man, terrible news. I am a big believer in Burrow, kid has the "it" factor. Hope this doesn't derail his Buckeye career.
I dont often hate, but when I do...I hate _ichigan Wolverines. Stay victorious my friends.
Agree, I really want to see him get a chance to start in the Horseshoe.
Stay resilient, Joe. Your teammates have your back and we're all rooting for a quick recovery.
I truly hope he recovers, everything he's shown on the field has been inspiring for the future of the program. I'm pretty excited to see the athleticism/arm on Haskins, though, and to think he almost committed to Maryland. No one likes a Terrapin (still unsure why that's a word)

Was thinking something more like this
I need to remember to ask TSUN fans this question: "When you refer to Ohio State as Ohio, does that make Tate Martell Ohio's Tate?"
How long you had that one in the chamber?
And that my friends is why schools like OSU continue to recruit highly ranked QBs even when there is a clear pecking order and there appears to be a log jam. One play in a game or practice is all it takes.
I Hate Michigan.
At least we know who number 2 is. QBgeddon averted.
Dang, I was hoping to see both backups during the scrimmage vs the JV at Bloomington
Go Bucks and michigan STILL SUCKS!
This sucks!!! I hate injuries!!!! With that said, GO BUCKS!!!!!
"With Burrow sidelined, redshirt freshman quarterback Dwayne Haskins is in line to begin the season as J.T. Barrett's primary backup. True freshman Tate Martell will likely begin the season as the third-string quarterback, though he could still be a candidate to redshirt."
May want to hold off on that red shirt. Sometimes those 3rd string QB's can be invaluable.

Get well soon, Joe!
Ugh. This SUCKS!
I was SO looking forward to watching Joe play this year. Get well fast, young man. Healing mercies to you.
Mister Haskins- Next Man Up. Go Light 'em Up!
"Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else." - Judy Garland
How does anybody know Ohio St. has 2 servicble backups? The 2 that are left have never played in a college football game before.
Top medical attention. Back by the 5th game ? Seriously hope so. Best of luck young Buckeye. You will be Perfectly fine and make important contributions. First 5 games would have prime playing time. Patience is a virtue. Your time will come around the 5th game.
Sorry to hear about Burrow. Broken bones usually heal well and fairly fast, so Joe should be back by mid-October. Sure hope so.
Zone6, with rotating WR's, will have 1000+ yards at all 3 WR positions this season
You're alright, Jack.
Thanks Hove. You too.
You're alright, Jack.
I'm sure overall he's a great guy. It's not like I think EVERYTHING he says is stupid, I just STRONGLY dislike the way he goes about his QB arguments. Other than that, he seems to be ok.
A community of differing opinions...
Football cometh, all will be well.
Burrow's brother is posting he'll return in 3 weeks! Regardless to when it turns out to be, I hope for a full recovery!
Very cool, BUCKAROOTIMESTWO. Thanks for the update.
Prayers for a speedy recovery. I really do think Joe could be a very special QB for us...
Thanks a lot, Daaaan.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
Prayers for a complete recovery for Mr. Burrow and that he uses his recovery time to advantage not only for his football future but his life future.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Glad it's relatively minor, wish Joe the best...
"Because I couldn't go for three"
Hmmm, losing one of our QB's two weeks before our first game - I've heard this scenario before ...... Didn't that season end up with a really big trophy in the Woody Hayes Centre at the end of that same season ?? Can you say, "Deja Vu" ???
But, seriously - get well soon, Joe !!
I feel bad for Burrow, but:
I know the article says indefinitely, but anyone have a clue on a timeline here? Any precedent set before for QB's being sidelined for broken bones? Or does us not knowing which bone/severity make it too tough to guess?
4-6 weeks more than likely. It's certainly not season ending.
Having been stacked at QBack looks like crystal ball genius.
Get better fast, Joe B.
You guys are talking about John like he tore his heart valve or something! He's more than likely out 5-7 weeks. He'll be back in time to get some action in blowouts. There's still soo much time left and soo many opportunities for him to show the coaches he should be the starter next year. And he's def not transferring anywhere. Nothing has happened for him to have to transfer! lol We have to stop being so dramatic as a fan base.
I'm a late arrival, so here
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
I never like seeing a young man on any team get injured after working so hard on his craft, especially one of our own. I have always been a fan of Joe Burrow and look forward to his making a fast and complete recovery. Go Bucks!
I hate this. I have been a fan of Burrow sonce his senior year when he eviscerated Steubenville's defense. I hope he stays strong and comes back and his performance gets him back where we thought he was.
Stinks, from what we saw the kid has some great talent. Hope he feels better.
My first thought:
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
I think we are all overacting. He will be back before we know it. Martell will still RS, burrow will come back and I think him and Simba will mix up the mopping duties. I only see him being gone for 4 weeks which puts him back at 3rd game. Mop up duty time. THE END
"If you take no risks, you will suffer no defeats, But if you take no risks, you will earn no victories."
