Thanks Andrew for the updates - I am completely content with Jones doing his search and living life large as a teenager. That way when he signs on NSD - his future plans will be in place in Columbus

As far as Blue is concerned - going off of social media can be a good thing especially if fans cross that line. Good luck to him and his final decision.

Can't say as I blame Jones.  The opportunity to attend a big time game and being the first "real" game in the new stadium.

The roof that closes uses a camera lens type mechanism.  It has been cool to follow the design and construction in ENR, an engineering magazine that I have read for years.

I'd rather see Bama win and run the table.  They will get in (playoff) undefeated or with 1 loss.  So I'd rather they just be undefeated so just in case we drop a game, we are not looking at picking between a 1-loss OSU and 1-loss Bama.  ACC is coming down to FSU/Clemson.

Just to let you know - we're not dropping a game

Can't believe people tweet racial remarks to recruits (or anyone, for that matter). Pretty disgusting and disappointing.

That said, what's to keep anyone from sabotaging a rival school's chances by posing as a fan of that school and making disparaging comments?

Iowabuckeyes: You bring up a good point.

It's relatively trivial for an opposing fan to set up a "@BestBuckeyeFanEver" account on social media, then attack recruits. I'm sure there are a few knuckleheads from Ohio doing this, but I think you're on to something.

How to stop this? We'd probably need someone on staff who monitors the tweets to our recruits. If there's a negative tweet, follow up and see if this particular "fan" regularly posts positive things about the Buckeyes. If they don't, they're probably bogus, and that can be reported to the recruit.

a very significant and ongoing point.

"some staff monitor" would 'step up' to this never-ending job verifying everything from covert deceptions to barrages of 'the usual stuff'?

IMO the 'monitors' we need for this task... are first me, then you, to flag these instances to this 'they' monitor, AND do homework for the monitor relevant to what we flagged.

and...

our 'process' must be far closer to exercising our critical thinking skills, than whatever passes for feelings and projections these days.

Yes agreed.  And I'd also like them to tell us who the 14 better players in TN are.   Master should get a nice and long overdue bump.  A serious bump.

2-how many "Totally, Honestly, Actually, Really" "bumps" does it take to "buy" "into their rankings"?

Rather...what a case study in the differing kinds of motivation for Mr Teague!

Better an episode of great tales to tell with his next team buddies, than tails to hide behind some perceived 'injustice' for which YOU... can NEVER...  'get enough' compensation.

So many better things to do!  Like smile... every time some johnny-come-lately opines that Master Teague was 'underrated'....  LOL

Definitely understand being sure of your choice, but it felt like Jones already did that and was satisfied with his decision. There comes a point where you have to wonder why the question is still there. Well, we'll see what happens. If the dependable recruiting analysts still feel confident, that's good enough for me.

As for what's happening with Smith, that's downright shameful. Even if being a racist doesn't already make you an utter moron in my book, I'm not sure why anyone would think racist remarks would help you make your team's case. I mean, they have to at least understand that, right?

If Jones is looking around to make sure can Urban look around at other QBs to make sure? Or is that a one way street?

I'd be looking if I were UFM. Sorry but I don't believe the whole "there's nothing to see here." Saban is off to a slow start and they need to flip some top commits and they are coming hard after EJ. Hopefully we keep him but this is not a nothing situation.

HS
bigbadbuck's picture

Obviously he can go where he wants but if he were to flip to Alabama he doesn't move up the depth chart much if at all because at this point in time for the tide is Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa (according to what I've heard he's quite the player) and I'm guessing, after looking at the roster,  Emory Jones would be third on the depth chart as an incoming freshman (unless I'm looking at this all wrong)

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, its a war room

HS
buckslan's picture

It's a one way street. Emory can do whatever he wants, but the moment the staff entertain another 2018 quarterback, it's pretty much all but over for both sides. But I think there is an incredible amount of trust between both sides, and for Emory it's more about reassuring his decision, rather than looking for another home. At the end of the day, I think OSU will win out.

Does the roof work?  I heard they had issues with it.

HS
NewPhilaFan's picture

Here is the most recent summary from ENR, an engineering magazine that I read.

The developer of the $1.5-billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium announced late last month that the operable portion of the 14.5-acre roof will be in the closed position for the opening events, beginning on Aug. 26. “We expect to play select Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United events in the open position later this fall,” says Alison Blue, a spokeswoman for AMB Group LLC. No technical reason was given for the delayed operation of the kinetic portion of the roof. The stadium itself was supposed to have opened earlier this summer (ENR 7/24-31 p. 28).

I'm a Falcons fan and this stadium has been nothing but headaches. I think before they dreamed it they should have made sure it would work. They have had some crappy delays so far.

I have been following the design and construction for years in ENR.  It is a very complex mechanism for the roof with a camera lens like movement which had never been done before.  Never good being first for anything complex.

Facebook is THE worst, deleted my account years ago. Twitter is a piece of cake - just block the idiots with the push of a botton; with FB, you had to change all kinds of security settings, then change them again when Zucker's group changed things for more advertising access/money.

I've witnessed as the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Smith has received a number of derogatory messages in the last few days and weeks — some even racially charged — from both Ohio State and Kentucky fans, and that is absoulely, 100 percent unacceptable.

I try to limit profanity and inappropriate comments on here but... If you're one of these Ohio State or Kentucky "fans" harassing, pressuring, and forcing your disgusting views on Blue, fuck you.

Sorry that "Blue" Smith had to get off media. It's a total shame that people would make remarks uncalled for just because they are not happy where they "think" he is going. I have always said and still will say, I hope the best for recruits that decide on going elsewhere than Ohio State. They are just young adults going to a school that they feel will best fit their future plans. They are NOT slamming your school by doing so. So just support their decision and hope they do well in their plans.

Truly sad that people would come after a kid over social media. I live in Huber Heights and remember one of the kids in my youth group that goes to Wayne telling me how much of a humble, down to earth guy Blue is. So it's especially disheartening to hear that someone would throw racist remarks at such a nice person.
