Exactly, and that's why I have the kick-*** scarlet and gray goggles at the ready at all times.

Ramzy, what can we say besides thanks for yet another stellar article dripping with what we're all thinking but can't find the words to express?!?
This line though, this is it for me:
Expect the greatest things. Celebrate the journey before it even starts.
This is how we have to embrace the off-season and prepare for the start of yet another CFP run by our beloved Buckeyes!!

Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
This is the pinnacle of AOR music, without question.
I see you went with "Separate Ways". Given the theme of the article, I would've gone with "Don't Stop Believin'", but that's just me....
Don't Stop Believin'.
Agree Earle - but wasn't this also the song playing in the last episode of The Sopranos when we weren't sure if Tony got popped by the hitman when the screen faded to black?

In the 80's I remember thinking were the Buckeyes allowed to win a National Championship. In the 90's I did my best to make Natty Light the most purchased beer in Lucas Co to drown out what transpired seemingly every important November Saturday. In the 00's something magical happened. The train made it to the station and I've had a ticket to ride on a glorious journey. 3 weeks and a wake up till I get to watch the team I love to my core compete for something I was not talented enough to.
Thank you in advance 2017 Ohio State Buckeyes

I had a rough baseline for Buckeye expectations. I knew they were one of the top programs, and Woody and Earle (to a lesser extent) had their successes in my young existence.
More of a pro football fan as a kid, so that and a move away from the homeland (and limited regional tv options) didn't do much to keep my interest in Ohio State football outside of The Game and bowl bids. My Buckeye blood emerged in '84, with a conference title and Rose Bowl berth. But things started to slip the next few seasons, and it wasn't long before I was just excited to see Ohio State in the top 25.
Grew up, left home, and went out to see the world. Had to endure the close of the 80's and start of the 90's in waiting for John Cooper to awaken a sleeping giant and return Ohio State to the national scene, yet it still wasn't enough to beat the rival and bowl success was limited.
A new millennium, and with it a new era of success at a level that have mostly met/exceeded our expectations - and the future continues to look just as bright.
Very well said Hovenaut. I know I can't stand JTs accuracy but even that is better than Cooper's QBs. I am looking at you Bellasari. We are truly getting spoiled these days.
Steve Bellasari has been completely erased in my brain... and that is a good thing!
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
Steve Bellasari has been completely erased in my brain... and that is a good thing!
I just remember Bellisari for this one thing:
It was a helluva good block.
Bobbing for french fries.
Coop actually had some decent qb's. Hoying and Germaine were pretty good.
Behold the chunky whoop ass.
Bellisari could have been an amazing safety.
Do Buckeyes have high expectations? How many other schools have a song with the words, "We'll win the game or know the reason why, O-HI-O." You don't sing that if you don't expect to win every game. In recent years, it should be reworded to "We'll win the game or fire the offending coordinator."
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
Always an UV for the Dude !

"The height of human desire is what wins, whether it's on Normandy Beach or in Ohio Stadium." -Wayne Woodrow Hayes
The expectation has always been there. Though growing up in the 70s and 80s the talk was always about the Rose Bowl. The national title was something that happened for someone every year, but not something talked about much. Beat Michigan, win the Rose Bowl. As a kid, for me, those things may just as well have been the national championship for us.
Now, it seems the stakes are raised, but deservedly so. Beat Michigan? That's crucial, but now it's a "great first step" and not the end-all and be-all. In the 1990s, a rare win over Michigan was way more meaningful than the bowl losses, and the losses to Michigan were way more painful than whatever happened in Florida in January. In 2006, we beat Lloyd Carr's best team (way better than his 1997 team, I think) and the build-up to that was far bigger I think than the NC game with Florida. In 2014 and 2016, hard fought battles over TTUN were satisfying and joyous, but felt more like game 1 of the season instead of the final game. The expectations and urgency has always been there, and THE GAME is still the biggest in all of sports, but now winning it is not the last hurdle.

Pointless non sense. You know it's the off season when there are stupid articles like this.
You've made 2 comments since February 2017...should've left it at 1.

Come on, man.
It's Wednesday Dude come on in for the fun after all

If you don't have anything nice to say...
Ocbucks - I won't DV you because someone a few days back used the word "befuddled" - I think that is an appropriate word for your negativity - You have "befuddled" me with your negativity.
Which begs the question; Why are you viewing this site? It is obvious you appear very bitter about an article which epitomizes what those of us who cheer for the Buckeyes believe the seasons are all about - A Great Big Six Month Celebration!!!!
So to everyone who is a Buckeye fan - Raise a glass, or glasses, and celebrate the season!!!!!

Wow. Them's fightin' words. Ramzy, write on.
Ocbucks, you've gottalotta nerve going after Ramzy on this site. Even a top columnist like Peggy Noonan has her off days.
Me as a kid: "Dad, is Ohio State going to be good this year?"
Me: "how do you know?"
Dad: "Because Ohio State is good every year"
No, my pops is not pushing 80...
Is it wrong that i totally read this as a Michigan fan dad sighing while he painfully explains life to his 8 year old son? (not that you an your dad root for them personally. I just chuckled at the image of UM fans saying that.)
The way Urban is recruiting, OSU has 10 wins just on sheer talent alone. That's our reality. Expecting to win a national title every year is unrealistic, but outside of 2012 (because bowl ban) and 2014 (Braxton injury, and they actually did win it anyway LOL), we always have a reason to think that it can happen going in to the new season.
Class of 2010.
I think it's a matter of proper phrasing: Winning a Natty every year is unrealistic and never should be expected. Being a realistic NC contender every year IS realistic and should be the standard to which every coach and player should be held to.
Ohio State fans have been blessed to cheer on the teams who take the field through out the decades. Go Bucks beat Indiana!!!
Its been a charmed life as a Buckeye fan, crazy to think as a fan I've considered 10 plus win seasons without a Big 10 or Natty title to be seen as "Down years" lol ! Even the "really down year" of 6 and 6 under Luke Fickell ended up going in our favor with getting Urban Meyer after that. Funny thing is, this year is another "Natty or Bust" year for me LOL :D
What I love about the 2011 season was that the other B1G teams were licking their chops, hoping for us to go into a downward spiral forever. Bert at Wisconsin was practically anointing himself the new king of the conference.
In comes Urban Meyer. It was the biggest middle finger to the rest of the conference, i.e. "How do you like me now?" LOL.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
"Life, uhh, finds a way."
Don't worry, I choose not to remember 2011 either.
Fields of Dreams
I want this 2017 season to be the immaculate juggernaut that we Buckeye fans have been awaiting from an Urban Meyer-coached team since he took the HC reins five years ago. Yes, TOSU has experienced a perfect season. Even a Undisputed National Championship. But as of yet, no perfect season capped by a totally Undisputed Natty.
Make this 2017 Ohio State football season one for the record books, Buckeyes. Strive for perfection.
Go Bucks. Beat Everybody.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
And that is how I start every season since 2013. Expect perfection. Period. Am I likely to get it? Not very often, but it beats the hell out of hoping to get a bowl invite.
I expected to get a cfp bid last year, and we did. I expect to get to the cfp championship this year. And we will.
So, we're not against fall weddings anymore?

Great read as always Ramzy - looking forward to August 31st
A little is better than nada, sometimes you want the whole enchilada
Undefeated in 2012 spoke for itself. One can always make the argument that they were the best team in college football that year, and nothing can trump the goose egg in the loss column.

Can't believe 22 minutes have gone by and nobody has stepped up to take your offer, Rendennt.
I live in the Land of Enchantment (1,800 miles from C-bus), but that doesn't deter me.
What are your terms, fellow Buckeyes fan? ;-)
haha well i am stationed in hawaii so the tickets are getting sent to me in pearl harbor. im bringing my tickets and the extra one to the game with me and going to give them to someone there. but i decided i would post on here first and see if anyone would wanna meet up at the game and get the ticket from me.
Uv for not even asking for anything in return, hope the lucky person buys you a beer.
Noon games suck
haha they're high up so i wasnt really expecting anything back for them. it just sucks because right now im just waiting for them to get sent to me in hawaii. its why i had to buy new tickets so i wouldn't miss the game. first college game ever. Go Bucks!
Enjoy the game. Up high for that game wouldn't bother me one bit. Go early and walk around and experience everything! If you don't have anyone to go with you I'm game.

oh i plan to be in uniform to the game and go walk around the campus and see if i can walk the 100 yards on the field. if i cant find anyone to go with me ill give you a holler. any way to get ahold of someone on here?
Wow at all the Journey references.
The unreasonable fans are the ones who will cry the hardest when Urban steps down.

Sounds good. Just let me know. Go Bucks
I am a Lieutenant on the police force at our local hospital here in Z-vile. I have a rookie police officer who is a big Buckeye fan, not bigger then myself, but he is part of Buckeye Nation. He has had a great first year as an officer and I would like to thank him for his hard work be presenting him with this ticket. Go Bucks
Getting closer to the start of the season...........

I always expect greatness, even did last year and while it didn't end happily, I feel like this year is going to be a fun year.

I'm coming in late on this d, iscussion
I grew up with Coop, my kids have grown up with JT and Urban. Their childhood has been much more enjoyable.
Feed the trolls
I cut my teeth (as a young kid and into my teen years) as a football fan during the Cooper era, and man that was tough. The expectations were still sky high, but you knew that just about every November, you'd be left desiring more.
Tressel set the stage pretty well, and delivered a title, but even his coaching methods starting to feel stale, and his "coach speak" was legendarily bad.
Meyer has for sure turned all of those pages and has brought Ohio State to the level of the Alabama's, and has made programs like Texas, and USC begin to pale in comparison. It's a good feeling.
I'll share a conversation my 5-year old son and I had recently:
Son: Dad, why do you wear Ohio State shirts all the time?
Me: Because I love Ohio State, I root for them every time they take the field.
Me: I'm from Ohio, and it's something I've cared about since I was just a little bit older than you.
Son: Why do you care about it?
Me:... (thinking, because no one has ever intellectually challenged me on my fandom before) Because, I just don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan.
He then looked at me super perplexed, but hopefully as he gets older, he'll understand.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
