GOD DAMMIT I WAS SO EXCITED FOR A SECOND
Seriously. I was about to go find this and preorder it.
If you have NCAA 14 and are able to access online play such as Xbox Live, I'm pretty sure you can download updated rosters. Here's a link. Granted their rosters are probably subjective, but nonetheless it's fun to play as current players.
Not 100% completed, but these guys actually have 2017-18 Rosters up. Your link still only has last year's I believe. These rosters are usually very good.
Ah cool, I didn't think they even added rosters til the year after play. I'll definitely have to check this out
Are the people who are making these rosters hiring? I am, errr.... asking for a friend
Kyle "blood on the field" Kalis... 0-5
Please pay the students their money, and make this game!
I get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired of this kind of ignorance ^^^
You CANT pay just the football players. Under federal law, you would have to pay ALL scholarship athlete's and there is absolutely nowhere near the kind of money to do that.
People that spout this kind of stupidity are utterly IGNORANT of the facts.
All but 20 athletic programs in the entire country are LOSING MONEY right now per a recent NCAA study.
And that's under the current model. Do you want to destroy collegiate sports? Keep up the stupid whining about paying players I can assure you sports will go bye-bye. The second the school pays them they are under labor law as employee's and Labor law PROHIBITS discrimination of ANY kind. What the university gives to one employee must be made available to ALL. That means health insurance, retirement plan savings ect.... it also means scholarships for athletics goes bye-bye as you can not make them available to athletes and not available to every other employee.
You WIN with people.
Haha whoa. I was just saying that if the popular video game used the image, likeness and names of the players, that they'd have to be compensated in some way. All hypothetical.
But holy shit balls, hope your day gets better, Bukirob!
Could be said using 24 additional O's in a word is ignorant as well. Or maybe referencing an article on an Alabama website that is 3 years old using 4 year old data from an NCAA report (we all know the NCAA is credible) to support an argument may be ignorant.
Some would say, "I'd give my left nut to have NCAA18". Maybe they are ignorant of the consequences of a lost testicle or maybe they are just trying to express how much they like something without the need of unnecessary extra vowels in their words.
I think we are all just ready for some Buckeye football, virtual or otherwise.
Pretty easy to just give them access to the rights to their likeness. No salary required, all athletes would have the same rights. The market outside of the college would determine their value. And EA Sports could license their likenesses like they do in other sports.
I like this. Seems too easy, though; there's gotta be a catch.
I think the catch is that booster that will give them $50k for an autograph but only if they sign with their team...not that kids shouldn't have the ability to cash in on that if someone wants too, it just makes it a very unequal playing field for teams w/ boosters w/ huge pockets.
I just talked to her last week. She was gonna make a pot for me.
I'm not sure why that is a catch? If someone wants to gift me $50k I'll take it. Players should be able to do so as well. Also the playing field is already unequal and that's not changing.
To be honest, it's not like the playing field is particularly "fair" now. Name me the last football player who Ohio State wanted that decided to go to Toledo or Miami of Ohio. Ditto for Alabama against Troy or FSU against Jacksonville State or so on. Ohio State already recruits different caliber of players than non-Power 5 teams or even lesser B1G teams like Purdue and Minnesota.
Or, if you prefer to view it another way: In a decade-plus since recruiting services became mainstream, non-Power 5/non-BCS teams have signed a grand total of one five-star player: Ed Oliver joining Mensa Founder Tom Herman at Houston last year.
I like this too, because it's intelligent and you're not calling me ignorant. But I'm biased.
If I was the NCAA, I'd change my policy to no first party payment. In other words no money straight from the University to the player and no money to recruits. From the University, scholarships suffice as payment in my book. But any third party payment is fine, whether it be a coach buying a player a fucking pizza, Sponsorships, boosters, or EA using players likeness and paying them. In a capitalistic world, these players should not be hindered.

OSU Class of 1999
Oddly strong feelings. It's a bad day for America when people at both ends of the political spectrum tell us we have to hate people who don't agree with us. It's a much worse day for America when we start buying into that crap.
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. I thought this article was an announcement for a rebirth of NCAA Football.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Same. Such cruelty in the morning can't be healthy.

Just as a PSA, you can get up to date rosters for NCAA 14. Google "ncaa 14 rosters," it's the first link. Look at the first forum post and they will have the current gamertag associated with each ps3/xbox most up to date roster. On your own console just go to the add roster function, enter the gamertag from the website, and it should download. They base the in-game ratings off the 247 composite rankings.
If my most recent playthrough is any indication of future buckeye success, prepare for us to win the next 12 natties.
Desymond... that is the best nugget of information I've received in the last 4 years!
Shit Happens Bum Juice
Figured some people would appreciate that. When I found out I snatched an old ps3 off craigslist just for the sole purpose of playing NCAA 14. You can also look in that forum for the old rosters and play as old (mid-late 2000's) teams.
The only problem with the updated rosters is the game has a 70 man roster limit, so they don't import all the newest recruits at once. So for this year they obviously added Tate, but since Grimes was hurt they didn't include him.
This might work
I held onto my PS3 just for this game. I break it out every so often during the dog days of summer, but to get up to date rosters is amazing! I can't wait to give it a try! Thanks fellas!
The sad realization that none of our WR's have greater than a 76 in route running and you don't really disagree. Hopefully this is the version of the game that allows players stats to improve as the year goes on
JT Barrett deserves a 99 in awareness, and subsequently a higher overall rating. No way he wouldn't be a 99 in the games. Not his fault his OC was a level 0 and didn't give the offense any extra boosts.
Sarcasm? Please, please be sarcasm.
No sarcasm at all. I'm going to assume this wasn't just an ignorant anti-JT post and ask if you've ever played the NCAA series? A fifth year senior with a ton of school records for the QB position would most definitely have a 99 awareness rating.
99 awareness sure, you implied he would be a 99 overall which is laughable, his LDA, and MDA would be in the 60s and his TP is way too high for where he is at, should be around 75-78 TP range.
For reference Chad Pennington was a 75 TP guy.
Overall I think 88 is about where JT should be at.
Tate Martell should be around 70-75 (he is a RS freshman afterall)
Burrow should be around 80-83 same with Haskins.
I would say he should be a 99 awareness, which would pick his overall up 2-3 points. There is no way JT would or should be an 88 in this years NCAA game. He's at worst a top-10 QB this year, which just does not translate to high 80's. I think your scale is just -5 compared to what the game puts people at (overall and individual skill). Otherwise I'd agree with what you're saying.
You do have a point. The Madden Ratings were always less forgiving than NCAA.
Miami 2003 game defense was ridiculous, and everyone used them online. Clarett could trash them though but nobody had the patience.
Impact Players were on of the best features of the game, it was broken at first I admit but by the end was phenomenal. That along with camp, the spring game, & recruiting are some of my favorite feature ever in any video game.
"Because I couldn't go for three"
Spring Game? What year was that?
I just lost in the 2044 natty to an up and coming TCU team. Proceeded to bring in 12 five star recruits, 14 four stars, and 1 three star (#1 ranked TE).
Proposed game is rated 'G' for 'GOAT' and yet Demario McCall is only an 84 overall

A. J. Alexander is suspended? Thought he injured his knee.
30 comments in and no one has mentioned Tracy Sprinkle's Finesse Moves rating. Grown & Sexy, indeed.
Damon Webb is a better safety than Bosa is a DL? Idk based on the numerous burns by TE last year...
Damn, I miss this game, and still play '14 frequently on my old PS3. There are a few groups that update the rosters each year and keep the franchise alive, sort of. But the ratings leave much to be desired, particularly of incoming freshman. Some are rated so high that by the time you get to year 3 of a Dynasty they're literally unstoppable. Then again, it's free, and it's just some random dudes doing it, so I'm not complaining too loudly. It's a ton of work to do it yourself. By year 5 or 6 they're all flushed out and it's more realistic. So much fun.
I wish there were a way to start in like 2000 and have the correct recruiting class come in each year. Always fun to get to year 5 and see who is left on your team that you forgot about. 'Oh, time to have that random OG switch to C and win the Rimington.'
"A half hour later he drove to my house and dropped off a hat that I had left behind. He apologized. We are still friends."
HE apologized? It would have been gracious enough for him to accept YOUR apology.
His initial anger was in part because he thought only my roster had the boosted ratings. He later found out that he also had the boosted speed, which caused him to simmer down a bit.
Rightfully, but that's still an egregious offense in video game sports. How would he have known to take advantage of the alteration??
I guess I just felt the more egregious issue was Gamble's speed :-)
If you guys agreed to alter the player, that would be more egregious. Since you secretly changed the attributes, didn't tell him, and then exploited the alteration at a key point to win the game, I think the cheating/lying is pretty clearly more egregious.
side note: I once rode an elevator with Gamble in Morrill Tower while two people propped him up like Weekend at Bernie's. Unfortunately it was too big a job for them to also hold his pants up.
I know that turd Desmond Howard was on the cover but NCAA 2006 was the best version imo. It was the first one with Race for the Heisman and it was the only one with an actual soundtrack, which happened to be marvelous. Not to mention you could still do all the original game modes that would later be taken out like creating a school.
"Life's a garden, dig it." -Joe Dirt
I can't count the amount of times in college I'd fall asleep on the couch playing this game only to be awoken by The Clash. That soundtrack is forever embedded in my brain.
I'm really looking forward to writing a Film Study piece about how Kevin and Andrew are wrong about Dre'Mont only being an 88.
Kevin will find this legitimately devastating. He will deserve it.
“Impact Players” was an awful addition. It was too gimmicky and I hated it. A player has a pulsating icon so that automatically means he breaks six tackles on a given play? Get out of here..
If you played a team that had an impact OLB or worse 2, you could guaran-damn-tee you were dead to rights in passing situations because they ALWAYS put them as Ends in Nickeland Dime sets and they always smoked whatever you tried to block them with. I hated this feature with the fire of a thousand suns and rage quit nearly every dynasty I had ever built.
What was your style? I ultimately started dynasties the same way. OC at a terrible school. First HC job was almost always at Tennessee, then I'd deny jobs until OSU opened up. I am an unabashed Sabanite. Big OL, stud RB, Manageable QB, big WR and a pressure and turnover crazy defense. I thought the read option stuff got a little too easy in later versions but once you really mastered running between the tackles, you could see the great time and effort that went into a realistic running game. I was virtually unstoppable as a ball control machine on the hardest levels with sliders so terrible skewed against me. I miss this franchise more than any game I have ever played.
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
That Xbox green is really throwing me off today. Not used to see that color on the front page
I feel like my roster is pretty good, I've been working on it during some of my free time for a month or so now. I'm actually OCD as heck so I've gone pretty in depth with mine, even though they're not done yet. A few things about how I came up with mine:
1) I had an idea as I was finishing a season in franchise, I decided to chart the maximum amount a player at each position could improve in each individual attribute during the offseason. I then did another franchise where I simulated the season without playing any games so my individual performance wouldn't affect anything. I use these metrics to try and keep my updates more realistic, helps make sure I'm working within established confines as apposed to getting carried away. Although sometimes exceptions are made.
2) I can't cite my source unfortunately, but I found somewhere on the web that a freshmen's overall rating is in direct correlation to their 247 composite rating as a recruit. I checked and it's true but all for a handful of offensive linemen. Between this, and comparing players measurables off ESPN's testing section and occasionally the O-zone, I feel like certain things are accurate. I also like to use the better know a buckeye scouting report section, helps me hone in on some little things.
3) Watch the film. (obviously)
With that said, here's a couple of players that I've finished so far for Ohio State, keep in mind the ratings can be conservative:
(JT Barrett) 94Ovrl: 85speed, 70strength, 84agility, 88acceleration, 90awareness, 75elusiveness, 86ThrowPower, 89accuracy

It was a catch.
I miss this game quite a bit, I even went to the extreme lengths as to try and buy a used PS3 and an old copy of the game (still may do it).
My favorite players were from more recent years because I was too young to remember playing the Vince Young and Reggie Bush era of the game.
Like it or not Johnny Jam Boogie was a STUD in the last NCAA games and was nearly unbeatable if you played with him. Also Bobby Triple Sticks from his Heisman year was really solid to play with as well.
I would always play Dynasty mode and play with lower tier teams and make them good. For example I once had 12 seasons with Navy and won 12 straight National Titles. I could run that Triple Option O like a well oiled machine.
"Let me quote the late great Cornel Sanders, I'm to drunk to taste this chicken"
If you master the inside read, you're impossible to defend. I played a lot of traditional running sets but I REALLY loved having a good triple option team. Cutting your upback back across the grain as the D moves towards the pitch man with nothing but a hapless safety left in the way is one of the greatest feelings that game can provide!
My sons still play the old versions on my Xbox. They usually use the Buckeyes to destroy some hapless team by like 80 points. My youngest son thought he would tease me by using Michigan to beat Ohio State (playing as computer). I tried to remind myself he's just a kid and it's just a game. But then I just snapped and took the game away for a week to punish his blasphemy. He doesn't use Michigan anymore.
I would pay a couple hundred bucks a year to have NCAA Football back. It was basically the only game I played.....other than Madden, after drafting my road to glory player of course.
Obviously, it's a big week, a huge week. We're playing a game that has championship implications in November. That's why you get up. That's why you shave. That's why you eat breakfast in the morning.
