Ohio State's 2017 Road Games Ranked By Difficulty

M!chigan is easily the most difficult road game of the year. I expect the skunk weasels to give UFM & Co. a very hard time. Though I do see Nebraska and Iowa being trap games. Indiana and Rutgers will be maulings.

Personally I see the Iowa game a lot harder then most. We've played well there but must be ready by kickoff

It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

At least they're breaking in a new QB.. Iowa always plays one of the softest schedules in the B1G, I'd venture to say this will be whoever's that is first big test.

My wish list for this seasons matchup with TTUN?

80 to zip, good guys,  No controversy, and as much as I enjoyed the fallout from the HarBomb going off after 2016's version, abject depression for him would be a nice counter-point this year.

Go Buckeyes.

Despite the high cost of living, it still remains popular.

With a score of 80 to zip, what could possibly be construed as a controversy???

10 touchdowns & 10 2-point conversions.

Champions.  Undisputed.

No disagreement from me on the rankings of the Buckeyes' road games. Iowa is always a tough place to play and deserves the second ranking. It should be a fun year to watch Ohio State football.

Minimal comments. Yeah, watch out for the trap games.

As regarding Michigan - OSU, I'm looking forward to that game. But it won't be until the end of October that Michigan will know whether or not all the new starters are capable of competing. And Michigan still doesn't have nearly the depth OSU has. Right now, as much as I want Michigan to win, I just can't see predicting it.

As regards 80 - zip games . . . whatever the score is, I'm thinking Michigan will continue to be competitive going forward.

What would be a perfect Michigan game? This year, it would be poetic justice . . . for OSU to lose because of bad calls, or interceptions, or a kickoff / punt return TD by Michigan. To tell the truth, I wouldn't want that to happen, but oh, the schadenfreude if OSU lost in some inexplicable freak fashion. It is always more of a dong punch to feel you lost a game you could have or should have won.

Calls not going  your way is one thing, but a coach dedicating an entire press conf to a call is another.

If your team can't rush for 100 yards in a game(with double ot) you don't get to blame refs.

HS
Buckeytrips's picture

Soooo, you're saying you lost because of bad calls by the refs?

Michigan plays road games at Penn State and Wisconsin those same weeks, tough matchups for a young team.

I had no idea, so I went to gander at their schedule. It's at Maryland and at Wisconsin the weeks before. Still, back-to-back road games, and the Wisconsin one should be tough the week before.

TTUN is going to lose to Florida, and Cincinnati. They may lose to Air Force although less likely. They may lose @ Penn St @ Wisconsin and definitely losing to Ohio State. At what point do TTUN fans sour on dear "savior" maybe when he starts 0-3 vs Ohio State, the same record Rich Rod had coaching TTUN vs Ohio State

HS
blu.fan's picture

You're plumb crazy. Obviously, Florida, Wisconsin, and Penn State are tough. I'm comfortable putting those as tossup games, and think it's reasonable they lose one or two of the three. As things stand, you have to predict a loss to OSU. But Cincinnati? And a definite loss to Florida? What are you drinking? I'm a homer, but I see Michigan again with 3 losses, and if things go well, 2 losses. You've got 3 definite losses and think another 3 are possible? Nope. No way. Insiders have made clear that while Michigan is young, their talent level (athleticism, speed, strength) has gone up, up, up. I think they lose a couple due to youth, but they are heading in the right direction.

As for comparing Harbaugh to Rich Rod, that's even worse. Rich Rod wasn't competitive. Harbaugh has improved, to where OSU's offense did nothing on Michigan through 3 quarters last year. And I really don't think the defense is going to step back much, if at all. Brown is a great DC, and having Mattison with the DL is awesome.

How patient will Michigan fans be with Harbaugh? It depends. If Michigan plays OSU tough, instead of getting curb stomped, that counts for something. I don't believe in moral victories. A loss is a loss. But being humiliated and dominated is another thing, That's what I can't stand. This year, Michigan is awfully young, and could / should lose. Next year, the game is in Columbus, which is always a very hard place to play on the road. Michigan could easily lose again. The year after, definitely no excuses. In other words, Michigan fans will accept staying even this year, improving next year, and beating OSU by 2019. So here's what Michigan fans need:

  • Be competitive.
  • Continue to improve.
  • Beat OSU by 2019.

If those things happen, Michigan fans will be satisfied with Harbaugh.

Good, fair post.  Let's see how things play out.

HS
macdaddybuckeyesupreme's picture

Seems to me there is a butthurt TTUN fan right there ^. TTUN is losing to Florida, that is a fact book it now. I mean they will be competitive with Cincinnati, but in the end will lose. Air Force runs the triple option, thats tough to defend but TTUN will win that one. Penn State is at Penn State and they are better this year than last, Wisconsin is at Wisconsin and they will be better than last year also. Ohio State is going to kick the crap out of TTUN, and yes due to current records Hairball has the same amount of wins Rich Rod had against Ohio State 0, I mean hell even Brady Hoke got a win against Ohio State.

Maybe its finally time to admit as a TTUN fan, that TTUN is no longer a powerhouse, and Hairball isnt as good of a coach as Urban Meyer, after all Urban only came in his first year with a team that went 6-7 and went undefeated and what did Hairball do.....Oh thats right he went 10-3

TTUN is easily the toughest.  Iowa and Nebraska are very equal.  Iowa always plays tough at home and the memories of Ohio State's last trip to Lincoln are very bad.  Indiana will get squashed and Rutgers doesn't deserve any mention.

I think at IA might be tougher than at Nebby this year based on OSU playing PSU the week before at IA.

HS

Hmmmm, OSU vs. The Puke & Blue .... the phrase, "A beating of Biblical proportions", comes to mind .....  I fully expect Hairball to lose his mind by the middle of the 3rd quarter and get so excited, he may pull a Joe Paterno and soil himself .....

Penn State, oddly enough, doesn't worry me .... but, Iowa does .....

However, if the universe unfolds, as it should, I don't see us with a road loss this season.

That Iowa matchup is so freakin' huge this season.  That team, no matter who it is taking snaps on offense, or making tackles on defense, is going to be SO hyped for the Buckeyes to come to town.  That date is going to be circled on all their calendars, and the fact that the Buckeyes are coming off a game against the only B1G team to beat them last year?  Man... That has all the makings of a trap game, Meyer had better have those boys strapped up and ready to freakin' SCRAP against Iowa.

I'd really like to see the Buckeyes just beat the brakes off Michigan State finally.  They're in a position to do so, Sparty is way down right now, that's a terrible time to play down to competition.  I presume Illinois to be no more than a tune-up game for our dog fight with TTUN...  Those spreads of games, for me, will tell the story of this season.  If we beat PSU, then go to Iowa and take care of business, then put a stamp on Sparty, and treat Illinois like they don't belong, I'll feel 100% confident heading into Anne Arbor.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

The Game is always The Game for a reason. Records don't matter when TOSU plays TTUN. I couldn't predict 42-13 in Ann Arbor in Harbaugh's first year, but I'll take it.

The "trap" games for me would be Nebraska  ---we could get caught sleeping from last year's win --and MSU, who seems to have great fortune in the Horseshoe for some reason.

Nebraska has lot to prove and after what happened last year against us they will be fired up. I don't think they are anywhere near what we are but a few breaks their way could be trouble if we let up at all. They would be easy to overlook.

HS

If JT finds his way and returns to his 2014 form the bucks should beat all these teams.  Very interested in what Coach Wilson brings to the party.  Expect the defense to be at least serviceable if not very good.

HS
tarsidea's picture

Hope with wilson on our side the Hoosiers don't force another embarrassing come from behind win.  Rutgers' D is set for a solid step forward so our O needs to be paying attention and if Grant is healthy we can't expect a blowout.  I should be more concerned with Iowa but with a new quarterback it takes them a couple years to gel.  If we hold true to form we'll be out for blood with Penn not a blowout but a decisive win.  Nebraska concerns me a bit they can't match our talent but may exceed our heart.  ttun is always a coaching game with the talent fairly equal; if Hairball loses his ego it could be a loss.
