Better Know a Buckeye: Ellijah Gardiner

Let's get him coached up and on the field.  We could use some big-time production out of the WR room and a big body with soft hands can't hurt.

Go Buckeyes!!!

"

Two things stand out in Gardiner's film. One, he has soft hands, which he combines with superb hand-eye coordination. More than a few clips in his highlight film will show him batting a ball to himself. He has the occasional one-handed grab in traffic too, a unique skill for a bigger wide receiver like Gardiner.

He's also a glider. Watch how he runs after the catch. Gardiner will never have "break-away" speed but he can be elusive in traffic. His strides are absurdly long."

Those aren't bad qualities to have as a receiver - just the sort of skill that can help a quarterback find the 6'4" receiver and connect for a good gain.

Look forward to seeing Elijah Gardiner down the road.

Hov, this kid has such a quick read on the ball out of the QB's hand that it gives him an unfair advantage over the DB. Exciting sleeper prospect. Pulling for this kid.

He comes in, works hard, gets (and makes the most of) an opportunity...

He's built for the job, no doubt about it.

Got to be hungry as hell with such little accolades in his corner. Always enjoy your commenting.

I'm confused....

From this mornings skull session

“I’m just going to keep my head straight, keep my nose down and working, really, competing for a spot to play my freshman year coming in,” Gardiner said.

A teammate said he's 6'5" and runs a 4.39.

4.39 is a glider? Looks a lot like Terrelle Pryor

He's also a glider. Watch how he runs after the catch. Gardiner will never have "break-away" speed but he can be elusive in traffic. His strides are absurdly long."

He'd have a lot more highlights if he had a QB that could put the ball in the right place and let him high point it. Looks from the highlights his QB put him is some difficult catching situations.

...so you are saying he is already trained to play WR this year for the Buckeyes?  I kid, because I love.  Go Ellijah, Go QB corps, Go Bucks!

With Haskins or Burrow, he wont have to worry about the QB putting him in bad positions

His QB in high school looked like he was shot-putting that thing to him!  What a beast though, for real.  Develop this kid and he could be scary.;

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

What's impressive is there's another receiver on the other side that looks even taller. Pretty good for a small school.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

Red shirt ? Why do so many suggest a freshman should red shirt. We have no proven big time wide receivers so week 1 and 2 will establish a depth chart. Any one of 5 or 6 could suddenly pull away. I hope we run 3 or 4 WR on occasion to make the new concept (passing) seem like a bigger threat.

Look at his height and weight, why wouldn't someone assume a redshirt SMH?

Tons of upside/potential...coach this young man up and let him at least run on the scout team. Reps against our first team DBs will prepare him for Big 10 football in years to come. Who knows, he very well may explode onto the scene and take zone 6 by storm. It's up to Mr. Gardner so show us what you got young man!!!

"Meyer gave his blessing to proceed with the recruitment after he watched the film Hodges and Pantoni had of Gardiner."

He needs to hit Mick's gym but he has fair speed and good vision. Project perhaps, but with the right regimen, could surprise some folks.

He has quick feet for his height. I expect that he will gain a few lbs. and with his hands and speed make a significant impact in the next couple of years. Look out for these unknown guys from small schools they have a tendency to come out of know where.

There are a few things that stood out to me.

He runs all the routes and has great timing. He doesn't move his head much when tracking the ball, similar to Devin Smith. He has the soft-catch hands like Jerry Rice.

One obvious double highlight, the first one and at minute 3:50 and was that lightning at minute 7:30?

Smooth as silk.  Add a few skills, strength, and some confidence against top guys and we could have a potential Impact guy here.  Excited about his potential!

I really like this commit.  I know a few were like "oh my he isn't ranked high" but he can freaking run, catch, and just needs some conditioning under Coach Mick to be even better.  I pick him as the under the radar kid that makes it big here.
