Looking Back at Ohio State's Backup Quarterbacks Throughout the Urban Meyer Era

No issue with the inclusion of both Barrett and JT, there really wasn't a starter that 2015 season.

Kenny G holds the standard, no question.

He threw for a school-record six touchdown passes against Texas A&M (a record Barrett matched against Kent State in 2014)

Guiton outplayed Johnny Football that game IMO.

haha beat me to it by 20 seconds!

Everyone knows that was where Johnny stole Kenny Football's nickname, forcing him to change it to Kenny G.

Good point. That is something a lot of people forget about

Oh my god lmao. Good catch. Typos like that are hard to catch when they're still a real team.

It was against Florida A&M, not Texas A&M.

Bit of a difference there ;)

I think the last time we played TAMU was in the Sugar Bowl either in the 90's or early 2000's.

1998 season. Would have been January of 99 in the Sugar Bowl....

Ridiculous to think that for the 2013 season our 4 QBs were Brax, Kenny G, JT, and Cardale. We've been spoiled that's for sure.

Guiton's comeback against Purdue was incredible.  I remember lamenting to a buddy that Ohio State's perfect season was going to be ruined by Purdue.  Purdue!  No, sir, Kenny G to the rescue!  That was incredible, but JT and Cardale in 2014 is next to impossible to top.  I still get chills when watching highlights of that season and postseason run.

I was in a wedding this day. We watched the game up until the start of the ceremony. We all lined up for my buddy with the thought of OSU losing still running through our minds. When the ceremony was over, we all rushed to our phones to see the final. The place exploded when we realized KennyG mounted the comeback.

at least it wasn't YOUR wedding

Guiton should have been in that game against Clemson in the Orange Bowl on that last drive. X-brax was too hurt to continue. That was a brain freeze on UFM's part.

I'm predicting Burrow will be NFL bound soon enough.

I don't think UFM knew exactly how badly Brax was hurt in that game to be honest. I don't think anyone did including Brax.

My recollection is that it was obvious to TV viewers that Braxton couldn't raise his arm above his shoulder.

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

Obvious. We all could see he wasn't right. Kenny G would have hit those passes. Especially the last pick. No doubt in my mind

Not mentioned: Urban's backups are undefeated 8-0.

Urban looks a lot younger in that Guiton clip, and that was only about 4.5 years ago.

Kenny Guiton plays against Clemson, we win. . . .

That is all

No.

It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.

HS

Hard to argue against Braxton Miller as the starter but the Buckeye offense never hummed with him at QB like it did with Kenny Guiton.  When Braxton was playing as great at he was it was a one man show.  When Kenny played the team just seemed to click.

We're fortunate that dead wood (old OC's) were finally removed. New mentality with Wilson/Day and my hope is that it will work well and these very smart men will push for playing back ups far more than we have ever seen. If starting QB is playing with a 28 pts lead you deserve whatever happens injury wise. Let starter score 4 TD, 2nd team, and 3rd team also should play and contribute. If Wilson does as well as I hope, Tate will be in by the 4th quarter. Of course you risk experience and progress. Winning with intelligence in 2017 / 2018 and going forward.
