Winner. Shut down thread.
This is so much the right answer that it makes me want to send you a check... no idea why. And no I won't really, it's an expression, but still... Solid take.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Yup. Either Kirk or Calvin Ridley.
"Without winners, there wouldn't even be any god-d*mned civilization."
This is tough because we don't have a lot of positions of weakness. Last year I would have said OJ Howard and Saquan Barkley.
Mecole Hardman, but he still might commit...
Sam Bruce too..
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Didn't Sam Bruce go JUCO and get his with a weapons charge?
"Let me quote the late great Cornel Sanders, I'm to drunk to taste this chicken"
Came in to post this.
Sam Darnold would be another.
Just imagine him an Urban's offense. He is literally a perfect fit.
"I hate losing more than I like winning."- Chris Paul
Yep.. Love JT, but Lamar Jackson is just capable of taking us to another level.
1. Derwin James
2. Christian Kirk
3. Saquon Barkley
4. Orlando Brown
I don't think Ohio State fans understand how good of a back he is, He embarrashed Kwon twice as a Freshman..Kids a beast and the next top 15 back in next years draft..
I would love Saquan Barkely....but, we've got a guy a lot like him(imo) on the roster by the name of JK Dobbins. Barkely will probably be the first RB taken next year, but I think Dobbins will also be a first rounder in a few years.
Holy shit this comment aged well. Kudos to you!
Barkely is a BIG time RB prospect. Damn good player.
Derwin James may be the best player in the country if he stays healthy. Top-3 draft pick in my opinion.
Yeah, I was actually kind of bummed that he was out all last season. Dude is fun to watch; a 6-3 safety that plays all over the place; at corner, deep safety, in the box, off the edge rushing the passer on 3rd down... and I've heard he's returning kicks this season.
Christian Kirk, Mark Andrews or one of the OPs mentioned linemen
I tried bum juice once, it was bitterly disappointing.
jabrill peppers - he could play any position for us
Life comes a day at a time, enjoy it.
You didn't say "college" team so I'll go with Zeke
oh, this is ElevenWarriors and not Arrowhead Pride! whoops!
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
1. Lamar Jackson
3. Derwin James
4. Orlando Brown
I'm going Saquon Barkley even though I think Weber out-rushes him in 2017
I'd take Barkley too. Not that I have any problem with Weber, but this would have the added benefit of crippling PSU.
Weber thinks he will, too. In fact, he's betting on it.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
I love that Weber has confidence in himself, but I think he might be taking the L on that bet. Weber is good but Barkley and Guice are just on another level.
Not to mention, both of those guys will get a lot more touches.
1. Mitch Hyatt, OT Clemson (don't care that he played LT last year, can play either L or R)
2. Ed Oliver, DT Houston (far less of a need, but a dominant player)
Players I thought of or looked up Dexter Lawrence, Ed Oliver, Christian Kirk, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Derwin James, Christian Wilkins and James Washington (Ok St WR, 2500 yards, 20ypr, 20 tds last 2 seasons) I wasn't familiar with him but he was on almost every 2017 AA team and 2018 NFL 1st round draft projection I saw.
Given what OSU has returning, I would go with Derwin James by a nose over Christian Kirk. Kirk has 5 punt return TDs in two years, but James is an elite top 10 NFL pick at safety, and OSU lost 2 corners and a safety.
Ed Oliver in the middle though with Buckeye DEs on the edge tho SMDH.
agreed, Cdub. Dexter Lawrence was the first guy that came to mind.
A thing repeated will happen a third time.
The best OT I could find
Heck. Orlando Pace looks like he could still play.
Anyone who can play tackle. I don't care if it is a LT or RT. Jamarco can man one of the two and bring someone in to man the other.
James Washington. Oklahoma State.
We want to throw the deep ball this year... He's the best guy in the country at tracking it. Think Devin Smith, only better
I need to learn more about him. I mentioned him, but don't think I have ever seen him play. His stats are amazing, but I know the Big 12 isn't the best defensive conference.
I'll take Christians first. Kirk and Wilkins, that is.
Kirk, by far, is the most dynamic player on offense in the country. He can be what Curtis Samuel was, but is also an immediate threat on kick/punt return and as a deep threat at receiver. OSU's defense will be fine, even with a brand new secondary. Against the best of the best, this OSU team needs someone who can be a threat over the top, or anytime he touches the ball. Kirk is that guy.
Wilkins is a dominant defensive lineman. You can line him up at end or tackle, and he's an elite pass rusher. OSU is stacked already on the d-line, but if you can put him on the same line as Lewis, Hubbard, Bosa, Jones, Holmes, et al, I just don't know how any college offense is going to operate against that front.
The only other players I see as substantial upgrades over what OSU has would be at OT. McGlinchey, Hyatt, and others would make an instant impact at either left or right tackle, and would solidify the o-line.
Right tackle maybe. Happy Jamarco had a stalwart season last year at LT (he had better pass block percentages than Taylor Decker did in 2015). Prince has the potential, I guess we'll see if he's made any progress in the offseason.
I pick Christian Kirk or Ed Olivier. Both would shore up positions of perceived need, and Kirk would add a huge threat in ST play. Olivier would add to already what is looking like one of the best defensive fronts in the country.
Derwin James all day. He's a freak.
Maybe Miles Bridges or Juwan Evans.
Our kicking has been absolutely horrible for awhile now
It's amazing how much we overreact.
When your scholarship placekicker, who wasn't great when he was playing, is beaten out by a walk-on, soccer playing transfer who had never played a down of organized football in his life, and that walk-on transfer is very suspect in some big moments, there most certainly is plenty of room for improvement. Absolutely horrible? No... but it's a definite weak area.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
Not an overreaction at all. The kicking is completely sub-par compared to the other units. tOSU's been on the bottom half of the B1G for years. Ohio State isn't some rag tag Pop Warner team. They're a Top 10 overall program in the country. Should be able to find someone that can finish in at least the top half of the B1G at least once every 5 years which has not been the case.
There were 5 B1G kickers with better accuracy than Tyler Durbin. That made him #6 which in a 14 team league puts him in the top half....so there is that. Just for fun I looked to see how Tyler compared to a couple other pretty good football teams kickers:
Rank School. Player. Makes/attempts. Percentage
47. tOSU. Tyler Durbin 17/22 .773
54 Ala Adam Griffith 21/28 .750
61. Clem Greg Huegel 14/29 .737
top 10 schools are as follows: Ole Miss, Ga Southern, Iowa St, Texas Tech, UNLV, New Mexico, Arizona St, Minnesota, Penn St (surprised) & SDSU. What does this mean...IDK
Projecting kickers isn't as easy as you would think. There are a lot fewer of them so if you take 1 and he doesn't work out...it's not like next man up. There aren't enough Schollies available to justify carrying more than 1 maybe 2. As you can see based on stats above if you can be over .737 you have a good enough kicker to get into the Championship Game.
was TD great no, is there room for improvement in our kicking game...absolutely but let's not act like we were trotting a Bum out on the field for FG attempts.
Buckeye til I die
All kidding aside, how in the world could you want players from other teams? Quit being greedy! Yeah, I'd love to see Mike Weber and Bosa play at Michigan, but the Weber situation sailed, and Bosa was always going to go to OSU.
YOU SIT THERE AND YOU THUMP YOUR BIBLE AND YOU SAY YOUR PRAYERS AND IT DIDN'T GET YOU ANYWHERE!!! TALK ABOUT YOUR PSALMS TALK ABOUT JOHN 3:16.... AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS I JUST WHIPPED YOUR ASS!!!!!
People forget that he played high school football.
Really? I hear about this all the time lol
But seriously, imagine the possibilities of him on the field. Could be a bigger Cam Newton, a more athletic Gronk, an unstoppable DE....hell, even OT. Dude could be used in so many places and would be a stud.
Did you know Sam Hubbard used to play lacrosse? Urban Meyer saw him playing dodgeball and decided to offer him a scholarship
Also Urban Meyer has a degree in psychology from Cincinnati.
I heard about the lacrosse thing but the dodgeball thing is pretty cool.
You learn something new everyday
You don't say. Next thing we'll hear is that Tom Herman is in Mensa.
No shit? I thought Mensa was some ironic nickname, never knew he was the founder.
Aaron Craft was once the captain of his HS football team
Craig Krenzel majored in Molecular Genetics
Cardale Jones once sent out a tweet about not wanting to play school. this weekend he graduates from OSU
Did you know he can solve a Rubik's Cube in like 2 minutes.
did he really? I think I read somewhere that if he went to college he would've gone to OSU
LeBron has been quoted saying if he went to college it would have probably been OSU(for basketball)
another in state kid that Thad couldn't bring in, damn
no reason a school like OSU, with all their resources, couldn't go up against the likes of Duke, Kansas, the NBA. smh
Exactly. His rookie contract was for $12,960,000, OSU has 500,000 alumni so if everybody pitched in just $25 we could have paid for him to come here. Just embarrassing we couldn't pull that off.
Lebron has his own locker here though. so maybe he did play at OSU?
I wouldn't add an OT first, I would add an elite OG. I really felt like a lot of the time Prince was blamed for a sack or tfl it was due to inside pressure that resulted in Barrett running towards the edge of the tackle box where Prince was battling. Not that Prince was doing an amazing job but the timing was off often due to inside pressure I thought
Maybe this Nelson guy from ND? or maybe Ivey from UF as he's a year or two younger
I'd add FatPants to the debate team
Shandy is not beer
...but I'll settle for Wyatt Davis
"Ohio fullbacks should stay in Ohio and play at Ohio State." - Earle Bruce
I immediately thought Kirk (Ridley is also a great option) but those of you that said Lamar Jackson have me thinking. Depends where you believe the issues reside, QB or WR.
"The Edge is where average stops and elite begins"
Any of the huge dominant DT's we've missed on in the last three years. That's the only position on defense where we've not been pretty much the best of the best.
Add one of those guys, and this defense could be truly legendary
This is the same Christian Wilkins right?
I wish the real world would just stop hassling me...
I don't want finger sniffers on my team.
I mean, he's good, but he draws too many flags. If he would just limit it to two pumps, he could be a real asset.
Connor Williams - OT Texas.
Fields of Dreams
Torrance Gibson. He is going to be special at Cincinnati
Really wanted to see him play for the Bucks. Excited to see him play for Fick
"How firm thy friendship"
You think he's going to stay at QB or back to WR?
Gunner Kiel or Alex Anzalone
Micah Kiser-LB-Virginia. Put him with Jerome Baker we are best in the nation.
You don't want any UVA player
Tremaine Edmunds 6'5 245 OLB for VT. Y'all can't have him though, most underrated LB in country.
saw him play HS bball and someone that size shouldn't be that athletic. Too scary. With the dreads in pads coming out of the helmet he looks like "The Predator"
Good thing he's a nice guy
son of Ferrel Edmunds former Dolphins All Pro TE so he has the bloodlines
"Does it get any better than Thursday night in Blacksburg" -Rece Davis, ESPN. No, it doesn't unless it's Monday vs Ohio State
James Quick. He's still the reigning champ of 11w.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Get well soon Mrs.Naut 6-0 > 3-6.
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
Yeah, he was a very good HS football player and he could help the football team ... but Thad needs him more.
Dual sport Lebron.
Bill Brasky! He is a really big guy. Goes about 7" 280.
Hingle McCringleberry if he had 1 more year of eligibility left.
Baker Mayfield, Ed Oliver, and Saquon Barkley are all really good choices.
Every time I watched Houston last season I was thinking "Damn our defense would be lethal if we had Oliver at DT."
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
Ed Oliver was the best true freshmen DL I think I've ever seen. He's Geno Atkins / Aaron Donald all over again.
Clemson's Hunter Renfrow would be a great addition to the Buckeye receiving corp. The nerd can play.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Baker Mayfield would be electric in our offense.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Not sure why anyone DVed this. Mayfield would be a perfect fit in our offense.
Hope all is well, Miami. Saw the DV earlier in the day and UV'd to counter. It's just an opinion and there's no call for that. I'm hoping that someone fat-fingered, which happens.
Mayfield takes way too many chances for my taste. He's certainly dynamic and can make chicken salad out of something else, but personally, there's no way I'd replace JT with him. Just too many questionable decisions, particularly vs solid competition. I see Mayfield as A&M Manziel. Ten solid plays, 1 great one, 3 WTF are you doing!! plays. He's a roller coaster for a coaching staff. Pass. Just my thought.
I agree with you on Mayfield being a gambler on the field, but I guess with Kevin Wilson in place and Mayfield's ability to throw the ball compared to J.T. I just feel like the offense would be close to impossible to stop. I feel like the past two years we have no one that is a threat downfield... the question for me: Is that because we lack talent at WR (i think no), or because our QB's weakness is deep passing? I know Mayfield has some Manziel type magical bs plays he makes work, but his ability to throw downfield from the pocket, or while scrambling is pretty impressive at this level. He reminds me of Troy Smith.
I feel like our defense will be just fine, as it has been in most recent years. A difference maker OT like McGlinchey would be my choice.
"I love football. I think it is most wonderful game in world and I despise to lose."
Woody Hayes 1913 - 1987
Barkley or Bo Scarborough
Bo Jackson... from Super Tecmo Bowl
Kyle "blood on the field" Kalis... 0-5
I'll raise you a one Lawrence Taylor high on blow... from tecmo bowl.
Even though he just got drafted last week I think Pat Mahomes would've been something special in our offense. He can run better than JT IMO and he has a 10x better arm.
"Championships aren't won on Saturdays, they're won on Tuesdays in August" Kerry Coombs
Wilton Speight. Just to screw w/ Hairball.............
Christian Wilkins and it's not close for two reasons
1. He is an awesome DT that we need
2. It's a double bonus because it significantly detracts from Clemson who we might face in playoffs
My second choice would be whoever is the most valuable defensive player on Alabama.
Ed Oliver from Houston
Ryan Day the goat....and yes I pee on ttun all the time.
i would take 3 different receivers from clemson before Renfrow
Yeah, I know you would. I've see you over on Bucknuts with the same handle and same type of comments. We get it...you're a racist who doesn't like white guys.
thats a big lie because I've never talked bad about a white player. I swear some people reach so hard to find a problem with everything
Courtland Sutton or Derwin James.
Mason fuckin Rudolph.
I love all the quarterbacks on the roster, but this kid is a fucking star who's likely to be a star in the NFL as well. Joe Burrow could learn a lot from this guy
Sure he's had a handful of questionable games, but the kid has a fucking cannon and can read a defense like a book when given a shot. Motherfucker throws one of the prettiest deep balls in the NCAA.
This kids gonna get paid come April 26, 2018
Yes... Christian Wilkins is a good football player and would probably be able to walk on the field and contribute, however I will pass on having him in the Scarlet & Gray... The image of him violating Curtis Samuel is forever burned in my head. I may still be bitter, but damn if I have to cheer from someone who goes four fingers deep in anyone. It is embarrassing and just gives a bad perception. Not to say OSU hasn't ever had athletes that do the same. It was tough to watch Robert Reynolds in that Wisconsin loss choke I believe it was Jim Sorgi. Loosing your cool in the game and heat of the moment but Wilkins and Boulware are on a new level.
Pick a huge fast Nose Tackle, any one.
