The fact that a teenager (may be 20? A sophomore) has to face him next is just cruel.
Congratulations to Kyle Snyder, safe travels home.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...
Outstanding performance, nice comeback in the final.
may end up going down as one of the best Buckeye student-athletes of all time.
I think he's already accomplished that!
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
Totally agree. He's already in the class with Owens, Lucas, Griffin and Katie Smith as all-time Buckeye greats.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
You might want to not forget about Jack Nicklaus!?
Good catch. Probably Harley too (I heard that he built a house).
How quickly we forget. There have only been four 4x NCAA wrestling champions. One of them is a Buckeye.
Its crazy... he's just getting started too.
Agree completely--one of the greatest Buckeye champions of all time.
Congratulations! Adding to an already impressive resume.
He does not have a Bednarik, Nagurski and Outland Trophy . . . yet.
Kyle Snyder doesn't receive trophies...trophies get made in his name.
"There's still some green showing before you see the chalk."
Definitely has an opportunity to make a run at one of the winningest American wrestlers of all time, certainly our time. I'd say he's probably P4P number 2 or 3 in the world currently.
Is there a wrestler on a hotter streak than the one Kyle is on? I follow HS and NCAA but not much Olympic/World wrestling so I don't know who else is racking up the gold's at Kyle's pace.
"The Edge is where average stops and elite begins"
What Kyle is doing right now while in college is unprecedented as he is competing in both scholastic and international styles at the same time. Even John Smith (4x world champion, 2x Olympic champion) only did freestyle after the scholastic season was over. It's still "early" as he only has 1 world championship and 1 Olympic gold, but he's on good pace.
Internationally, there's the "Russian Tank" Abdulrashid Sadulaev, he's been undefeated since his first senior level competition. The guy is the second coming in freestyle wrestling. There's talk about him moving up to Kyle's weight and both of these guys getting into it. Clash of the Titans.
Sabdulaev is absolutely one of the best ever already. A freaking technique machine that is built like a tank. BUT....Kyle challenged him to come up to his weight before the Yarigin. I'm sure they will eventually wrestle. If anyone can beat the Russian tank, its Kyle.
Yep, Sadulaev is ridiculously good. Basically the LeBron James of freestyle wrestling to offer an analogy for those who don't follow the sport.
At 20, he's actually younger than Kyle and his accomplishment are already ... uh ... impressive. The two may have quite the rivalry some day.
Awesome that 11w sent a reporter to Krasnoyarsk to cover the tournament!
Snyder for Heisman!
Snyder is pretty much a lock for the Dan Hodge award, and the NCAA tourny hasn't even started. I think technically his international feats don't count towards that award, but you can't not be biased to the amazing accomplishments he's achieved in the last 12 months.
This is going to be a tough year for people to decide on the winner of the Hodge if all the #1's currently win out. All are showing an extreme level of domination.
If that's the case, don't you think that 'extracurriculars' would come into play, and that would give Snyder a significant edge? I guess I could see it working against him if people say 'well, he wasn't there for 5-6 dual meets where his team could have used him.' I just have a hard time imagining him not winning it.
Kyle is by far the best wrestler in college, but they will give the award to Retherford, Nolf or Martinez since they wrestle the whole season. Its pretty ridiculous though.
Maybe the public portion of the voting can carry Snyder.
Well done, Kyle! Outstanding!
World championships are bigger than Heismans imo. His schedule must be torture. Not necessarily any one day but the grind of a year.
Has he been working out with coach Mick? His opponent was obviously gased in that match, but he looked unfazed. Amazing work.
"He has that look in his eye when it's time to start feeding the beast" UFM on EZE
Coach Mick is the best....but he could learn from Kyle: the best I have ever seen in this category. Its both great endurance and shape combined with unbelievable mental fortitude.
Very impressive! Wrestling is so tuff mentally and physically to stay on top like this is crazy. Congrats
Snyder is truly a tOSU legend. What is interesting, imo, is the fact that after googling Ivan Yarygin, it appears that he and Snyder are actually very similar wrestlers-"light" heavyweights-he went 6'3 220-who used their athleticism to be the best in the world-Yarygin was a 2x gold medalist and world champion for the USSR in the 70s.
No one is quite as good as Yarygin, no disrespect to Kyle. Kyle eked out an Olympic title, albeit at 20 years old; Yarygin, on the other hand, pinned his way through the Olympics! Yaryigin also bested Russ Helickson, our former head coach a few times and Russ was a damn beast too.
Nice performance Mr. Snyder, congratulations. This was a palate cleanser after reading the Iowa bball thread.
I envision him recounting the events like "and then I beat Hossein Rama... Ramena... fuck it some dude from Iran." That's quite a slate of names to be sure.
CHAGANXHANA (CHINA) WON (TF) 11–0
QUARTERFINALS BELBUTE MUNKHZHARGAL (MONGOLIA) WON (TF) 11–1
SEMIFINALS HOSSEIN RAMNEZAIAlNJELODAR (IRAN) WON (TF) 11–1
FINALS RASUL MAGOMEDOV (RUSSIA)

Wow. He seems to be dominating a sport that is not intended to be at this level, and especially at this young age.
It appears as though he doesn't have a single ounce of fat on his body.
Some things just aren't fair.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
I wish I could say I was inspired to go to the gym more from him... I have a ways to go.... and I don't think I'll get there at Planet Fitness....

Hey BIC - just don't give up.
I saw an interview last year with 91 year old Dick Van Dyke and he is in amazing shape.
His "advice" was to just to do something every single day - walking - jogging or even climbing stairs. Time doesn't matter just do something.
haha it's very true. My last clinical rotation I worked with a 104 year old vet from WWII who was still wheeling himself around to the rehab gym, talk about motivating! It may have taken him the better part of an hour to get down the hall, but damn, he did it himself.
Wow that Doc is like the energizer bunny
Keeping a purpose and keeping moving will do a lot for a person!
And your self confidence. Gives you a positive outlook on life.
Holy crap. A pin in the finals is insane. Congrats to Snyder!
That guy was so gassed it looked like he was trying to pin himself!
Born a Badger, Raised a Buckeye
Watched his opening match last night before calling it a night. The young man is just an amazing wrestler in every aspect. So happy he won gold.I would also like to thank Jason for putting this on last night.
Last nights match was amazing - he won 11-0 in just a little over 2 mins.
Too bad the timing for this tournament conflicted with the away meet with Iowa. It would have been so sweet to beat them on their home mats. Congrats to a true champion. He's got a bright future ahead him.
Missed him big time in Iowa, but super proud this buckeye represents us. He's an absolute legend, and still young
Pulled this from 11W twitter account
How amazingly awesome

It should be the case that anyone within driving distance go watch Kyle next against Penn State and applaud him.
We are witnessing a rare talent.
p.s. I'm confused as to which night the next match is against Penn State.. I have seen it written about three different ways
Friday the 6th at 6pm at the Schott
Snyder is heading towards (but not there yet) Dan Gable territory. No offense to Smith or Sanderson, but on an international level we have not seen a US wrestler at this level since Gable.
Our people are everywhere, Esto Dignus.
He's the best big man I've seen since Karelin.
He's not in John Smith territory yet. Smith was a 4 time world champ & has two Olympic golds. He stands at the pinnacle of American wrestling.
No disrespect intended. I did not remember Smith having 2 Olympic golds. If Snyder stays healthy he can rewrite the records. Smith has his place at the top until Snyder medals past him if he is able. Thanks for the gentle correction.
It's hard to imagine a man at Kyle Snyder's age being as dominant as he is on the world stage. Snyder's accomplishments are almost unmatched in American wrestling lore.
Congratulations to Kyle and best wishes going forward.
Impressive he was able to dominate the Iranian wrestler so thoroughly. Iranians are crazy about wrestling, it's basically their national sport.
