Fox getting full rights to the Big Ten games may be huge for someone like me (read: people who don't have cable). I know OSU vs Directional State University might be buried on ESPN 8 (The Ocho), but if Fox will broadcast more games on broadcast TV, I'll be more happier.
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
(read: people who don't have cable).
Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.
ESPN and Fox will each receive approximately 25 football games and 50 basketball games annually under the new deals. Prior to the start of each season, Fox and ESPN will select the weeks where each network gets first choice of games, with Fox having the first pick every year and the networks alternating picks for each week thereafter. (Source)
Fox also has it's cable channels, but there will be more opportunity for broadcast TV
This will be a key source of material for FS1. Remember Fox also has MLB and NASCAR to air. Not to mention the B12 and P12. That said, they also know where the ratings are and they aren't in Pullman or Lubbock.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
NBC has the NASCAR rights in the fall not Fox
Isn't NASCAR split between 2 networks, or does that stop this coming season?
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Maybe NASCAR, but they have other rights according to Matt Sarz, the best source for sports programming I've seen. Here is what he has to say about the IU opener:
Ohio St. at Indiana, which I thought might be a candidate for one of the Big Ten Friday night games on ESPN or FOX, has been moved to Thursday 8/31. My assumption is that one of those two TV partners requested this change as well as they have commitments outside of college football that take up programming space over Labor Day weekend, such as ESPN2 with the US Open and FOX and/or FS1 with MLB, NASCAR Truck Series, NHRA and possibly UFC.
While I'm talking the IU game, this will be the inaugural game for the expanded Memorial stadium. They are filling in the open end zone. A new opportunity for an aerial shot of even more scarlet-clad fans.
Does that mean more Gus? Love Gus Johnson calling Buckeye games. HaHa!!!!!
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Yea, Gus is my favorite announcer. Love his excitement level.
Maybe I'm in the minority on this but I hate Fox presentation of anything sports. Has been going that way for quite a while.
wish flights to Phoenix were a little more manageable. I don't have a couple of days to drive across country because tickets look to be below face for a home game. Who would've thought they'd see that on the market?
"Success: It's What You Do With What You've Got"- Wayne Woodrow Hayes
Couldn't agree with you more... Fox simply isn't college football... and Gus Johnson is just about as annoying as Beth Mowins... Give me Nessler, or any of the ABC crews over Fox any day!!!
There's only so much screaming and gasping I can take each game. Not every 15 yard run or 20 yard pass can be Holy Buckeye.
I watched that game last night. In the fourth quarter it felt like Fox tried to slip in a single commerical every time the clock stopped.
Different strokes for different folks.
Well, if you're in the minority, I'm right there with you. I think their coverage is horrible.
Their presentation of some of the conference championship games sealed it for me. Aside from the poor quality of the overall broadcast, they really love the sound of their talking heads' voices more than the game itself. Their coverage would start at 8pm, but the game didn't kick off until 9. Which had games ending well past midnight. Stupid.
They're worse than BTN, and that's really hard to do.

Platfodm, a brewery out of Cleveland just opened its doors in Columbus this week. Check it out. Speed Merchant White IPA and New Cleveland Palesner are staples.

Saw that on some menus last night. Cheers for the recommendation!
I'm a Madtree guy myself. But you can't beat the location and atmosphere of Rhinegeist, especially since they opened the roof. Can't wait for Madtree's expansion to open in February.
I love their PSA. I'm looking forward to Dogberry's expansion in West Chester.
Urban Artifact over everything
A motivated top 5 defense and a refreshed offense that is looking to play with a much faster tempo sound like a deadly combination if you ask me..I know Urban and his staff took advantage of that month of preparation..I honestly believe that Clemson is going to walk in overconfident..and I'm basing that statement off of dude saying "we've definitely faced better", and Watson saying "I'm the best player in America"..go ahead and hold those cocky heads extremely high boys, them buckeyes want a clear shot at your throat when they hit you..I'm amped for this game and I've got 8 lbs of wings and a box of my favorite beverages ready..
LOL! Nothin says "It's time to kick some savage tiger ass" quite like a box of wine. Well, unless you were to pour the wine in an empty diet coke can because you like to administer a discreet ass kicking, that is.
Oh I'm not talking about wine my friend..not a wine drinker, actually I think wine is terrible..
Would anyone from the 2012 defense start over anyone from 2014? That list ends with Ryan Shazier.
DJ, are you sticking with those years, or you maybe want to switch to 2013 and 2016?
That's what I was thinking.
If so, a freshman Joey Bosa would have to be starting alongside a freshman Nick Bosa. Clemsons OL wouldn't come off the sidelines.
I'd have to assume Michael Bennett is definitely starting, with Joey Bosa, Adolphus Washington, and Noah Spence rotating in on the D-Line. On top of that, I'm not sure which DB would get the boot from this team, but Roby would certainly take snaps away from someone.
Shazier is a given.
Well, if we are talking who actually played against Clemson in 2013, then Roby and Spence are out...
Right, that crossed my mind too. But just imagining our current CB rotation with Roby added in... wow
Even as a freshman, Joey Bosa is a pretty obvious choice, but I might also be inclined to take true freshman Vonn Bell over Damon Webb at Safety.
That was the frustrating thing about the 2013 Silver Bullets. The individual talent was there across the board, but they never played anywhere near that potential as a unit. After seeing the immediate dividends of the coaching change (Withers to Ash), I think we all know what the real issue was.
Bothering recruits via social media is not a Buckeye fan thing to do. That's why we have 11W...a cathartic "Hurry Up" takes the edge off.
Prices for the Fiesta Bowl game tix are down. Now if only the PHX flight tix were down too.

That's the problem. Getting out to Phoenix is so expensive this time of year. Tampa is drive able. If you have to fly, fares to Tampa or even Orlando can be OK at least. I would've love to see us play in Atlanta even understanding it's closer to Clemson as well.
Now that all these things are in domes they really need to have games in Indy, Detroit, or Minneapolis where the southern school doesn't get to have a home game.
The domes are great for football, but why would I want to be in Detroit in the dead of winter? Or for that matter in Detroit any time of the year?
You wouldn't drive up to Detroit to see the Buckeyes play in a playoff game? I've got 3 little kids so I can't afford to take time off and fly to Phoenix but I could drive to Detroit and back.
Plus we'd get a home field advantage like LSU had when we played them in the Super Dome.
Obviously Tampa Bay and Phoenix are nicer placed for vacation but my main point is that the game is what's important and it would be nice to be able to attend.
I am 100% with you on this! Not just for the schools and/or fans, the the local economies as well. I think the Midwest could use a little of the playoff revenue. Why not spend our hard earned money in and around our region??
I wish there was a way to put some pressure on Delaney to influence this.
10 Speed, those are valid points; you're really putting my hands to the fire.
Would you drive up in a blizzard?
Without a conceal carry for Detroit's highest violent crime rate in the nation?
It's time to get it on, bring me Saturday.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
24 hours from now I'll be boarded on a plane to Phoenix. Lets just say my mind is already on vacation.
Have a great time Gangel and bring home a W.

Nice link, BICB. I love the comparison with Navy and Ga Tech. The formations are different, but the use of pre-snap motion to get the defense off balance, the option concepts, and the constraint plays are the same. This should be a great game.

That WMD on 'Mall Brawls' pissed me off. #Teens blowing off steam is no big deal, but setting off mass panic in a shopping mall and potentially injuring hundreds of innocent people borders on terrorism. Unbelievable.
Nice upset win yesterday by Northwestern. Coupled with the Gophers' win a couple days ago, the B1G has quietly gone 2-2 in bowl games. (A couple of sportswriters picked the B1G to go 2-8 in bowls.) Even IU and Maryland looked pretty good in close losses against heavy favorite Utah (2 pt loss) and "pick 'em" BC (6 pt loss). Not to start waving the conference banner and going all SEC, but that bodes well for the conference. OBTW, the SEC is currently 1-2 after A&M lost last night to K State; the conference's only bowl win to date is a 1-point nail-biter by Miss St...against Miami of Ohio, a 6-6 MAC team.
I'm with you on the mall brawls. The FBI needs to get involved in the investigations to fully identify and prosecute those idiots. The fact that all of those brawls happened on 12/26 across the country with such bad reactions, I have a feeling they're going to keep continuing.
That WMD was interesting because honestly I didn't know that it was a thing that was happening nationally. Locally I heard about the Beachwood mall incident and saw the video. Seems crazy considering that that's the mall my wife and I go to the most.
CLE - Where we "wait till next year" every year
Miami should have won that game if they could kick anything without it being blocked. They got an extra point blocked in the first half, then got the winning field goal blocked on the last play. Also they could have done some better time management at the end.
Got win all three phases of the game. I seem to remember one of the CFP teams losing a game that way earlier this season...
Clemson fan here. I'm surprised Bosa would not start for this team. Your defense must be really good.
Bosa was a freshman in 2013. DJ said 2012.
Have to assume he meant 2013, since the 2012 team didn't face Clemson.
That makes sense. I took it as Urban's first year at OSU compared to now.
I think DJ meant 2013, since that's when they played Clemson and allowed 500yds to Boyd. So, if that's correct Joey was on the 2013 team, and would be starting for this year's defense...I think.
It's pretty solid guy.
Bosa will start soon enough.
Energy derives from both the plus and negative
Welcome, Delsigtig. Enjoy the game Saturday - should be a good one.
I'm happy to say that I have no hard feelings towards Clemson - I don't dislike them like I do Bama or others. I like Dabo Swinney a lot. I think there's two pretty good squads facing off on New Year's Eve, and I'm excited.
I have to believe 11w has a part in the fact that Ohio State is not among the most annoying fan bases on social media.
Jonathan Hankins would start on this team.
Roby 50/50 with Conley
Devin Smith and Philly Brown over McLaurin and Clark.
Reid Fragel 50/50 with Isiah Prince
CJ Barnett 50/50 with Damon Webb.
Offense wasn't a part of the question, I don't think, but I'm with you on Smith, Brown and Fragel.
Don't think I'd take Barnett over Webb though.
I think DJ got his years mixed up - he meant to ask who, except for Shazier, on the 2013 defense (the last time Ohio State played Clemson) would start for the 2016 defense (which is getting ready to play Clemson again).
Well, in 2013, Roby was halfway out the door (planning for his NFL draft party), so no way was 2013 Roby 50/50 with 2016 Conley - not even close.
And if DJ really meant to reference the 2013 defense, Hankins was in the NFL then.
There were three other 2013 guys who definitely would be in the 2016 rotation, though: DT Michael Bennett, DE Noah Spence, DE Joey Bosa. Add those three guys to the current DL and it would be downright evil, but I'm not really sure who would start.
Orange bowl was Vonn Bells first start - seem to recall he did okay. Over Webb?

I'd say that Smith or P Brown would start over Campbell, who is the true starter and has started every game this season.
Sure, but dude has only lost two games as a starter.
I'm pretty sure JT has lost three as a starter (VT in 2014, MSU in 2015, and PSU in 2016) but the fact still stands that he is one hell of a leader of this offense!
DJ what you have failed to mention is that Pittsburgh came in at #3 on the beer city rankings. Pittsburgh wins again :)
Thank you for the skully DJ. I really enjoyed the WMD Homer and Harold.
Lead, follow, or get out of my way!
Astute viewers of the Foster Farms Bowl – all 104 of you – may have caught the network's Ohio State promo.
Now that's funny
Funny, yes. But that was a much better game than it should have been.
Fox sucks. I hope we don't end up with less Buckeye games on tv here in the south as a result of this move.
m GO BLOW!!!
How do you know your hypothetical opposition in 2024 will be a "him"?
And why not 2020?
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Clemson will not score at will like against many teams. The Silver Bullets will score 2 TDs, thanks to Deshaun.
DJ, how do you know your opponent in 2024 is going to be a "him?" LOL
"Cause I couldn't go for three!"
I went to last year's Fiesta Bowl with my son. My bro-in-law and sis live in Phoenix and he offered that if we fly ourselves out, he would buy the game tickets. I didn't want to go (see below), but my son said it would be a once in a lifetime father-son thing. We flew out on New Year Eve, went to the game, and flew back on the 3rd. It was fun. I liked the stadium and the whole experience.
But the TV experience is just too good. I've been offered free tickets to big B1G games at Ohio Stadium, and turned them down most of the time. At home I can sit in my leather recliner, eat my bean dip, drink my cheap drinks, and be able to see everything that is going on in high def on a big screen. If I'm hot, I can open a window. If I'm cold, I grab the remote for the gas fireplace. There are no obnoxious people around me, no drunks to deal with, and it costs me zero to park. I can yell and scream, throw my hat, or do whatever I want. And when the game is over, I walk up the stairs and go to bed.
I guess there is something to be said for "being there" when Ohio State wins a big game or a national championship, but in terms of cost, comfort, and taking in the game, give me my recliner and man cave.
As I get older, I am starting to understand why my father is the same way!
"BLOOD. THIRSTY. BUCKEYES."
Announcers aside, does anyone else find FOX's HD to be better than the rest? I feel like it looks the best for NFL football at least.
Regarding fan interest, this is the risk with a playoff system. Fans want a good reward for traveling, especially on a holiday weekend. A win to get into the finals is not as exciting as the old 1-bowl system. In 2014 it was exciting because we faced Alabama in the first round. 2 of the best programs in CFB history going head to head. Clemson, not so much.If the playoffs expand to 8 teams this problem will only get worse, unless the playoffs are played on the better team's home field.
Personally, living in Seattle, traveling is pretty time-consuming and expensive. I usually travel to the Horseshoe for one "easy" game where I know we'll win, and one "marquee" game like TTUN or OU next year, because of the entertainment value.
Also, the championship game itself is ridiculously expensive. My father is an OSU professor and the face value of one ticket in the lottery is $570 (!!). How many people are willing and able to pay that, plus flights and everything else? IMO bowl tickets should be dirt cheap, as most fans are paying out the nose to travel.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"

Clemson fans made the trip to the desert last year, too, so there's that dynamic of familiarity breeding contempt a bit.
Gus Johnson is like Christmas music, completely seasonal. When I hear it too much, it loses its appeal.
good thing my distance is 7 hours to Phoenix
good thing hotels were available
good thing the Bro can fly in to share the experience
good thing BuckeyeNation makes the desert "CBus West"
