He'll be a great one someday. Maybe here. #HireFickell

+1. Somebody's sour...
This would not be ideal considering there is a good chance that Schiano leaves too. But as we all know, Meyer has done as good as a job as anyone in replacing assistant coaches.
If they can wait one more year, Kirby Smart might be available too.

I think there is a real possibility that this happens. I think that Fickell would be an ideal fit for Temple and I can' imagine that Schiano doesn't get a shot after this year. Strong would be an great fit.
We'll just forget about Mr. Beck
Cincinnati seems like a fit especially geographically

Yep! why not follow on Mark D'antoni's footsteps.
Does Fickle know anything about basketball?
Shandy is not beer
I know that it would be a long shot given he is not even a coordinator but Coombs would be a home run hire down in Cincinnati. His ties down there would make him a juggernaut from a recruiting standpoint.
I've seen a few people bring up his name for the Cincy job.
It's about the right guy at the the right time for a job. if he could put a staff together and bring his energy and enthusiasm to that program, the sky is the limit.
But selfishly, I don't want to see him ever leave OSU.
The cincinnati enquirer had an article this morning about the the bearcats hc position, it mentioned charlie strong and fickell were interested and that fickell was aggresively pursuing it! Hate to see him leave but i thibk it would be a great fit

Does schiano burn his bridge here if he leaves a year early?
I'm not sure if he's under the 2 year assistant rule
No way Schiano burns a bridge here. I also doubt he is under the same requirements as other coaches that join on.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
I know many people still point to 2011 and say that the guy can't coach, but I think he'd be a really good HC in the right situation. I do think that he needs to start small and build he way up like Herman. I'm really hoping that he doesn't take the FAU job and can find something a little better, like Cincinnati/Wake Forest type level. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Truth is, THE OSU is his dream job, and I wouldn't mind seeing him back to lead the program when Urban leaves after he's cut his teeth and proven his ability further with some other programs.
I'm not so sure that Schiano leaves this season...just because there really aren't any major jobs available that haven't been filled. Maybe Oregon, Notre Dame? I could see Fickell doing well at Cincinnati.
I tend to agree with this. He was actually out of work for far too long, considering his HC background, and then a good friend brought him back as a co-DC. There is something in the background there that is going to take more than a year to rehabilitate.
Man it would suck to lose both DC's. Charlie Strong would soften the blow some, not sure of the good names out there for the Secondary Coach spot. Taver Johnson perhaps?
Count me as a big fan of Fickell. He has always been all Buckeye. His loyalty to the university, his players and his state are unmatched in the current culture of big money college football.
I hope he stays on the sidelines as a Buckeye forever, but understand if he is ready to run his own program.
I will be very sad to see him go. Big Fick fan here too.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
All the Fickell haters are going to realize too late how amazing of a coach he is. When he is gone, it will be noticed.
Fickell is the elite of the elite when it comes to LB coaches. Losing him would be a big blow. Strong would be a good replacement, but he has never really shown he can take those project guys and make them big time players. Does that matter as much now that we recruit at such a high level? I'm not sure.
Good luck to him if he goes. Cincy would be nice for him, could potentially keep his family in Cbus, which I would imagine he would like.
6 kids? Damn. I didn't think anyone could beat Corey Smith's 5 kids. What are they putting in the water in Columbus?
It's not going in the water.
Fickell is 100% Buckeye through and through. He was a terror on the field, and he is a vicious recruiter. If and when he leaves, he will be missed, but like I always say...once a Buckeye, ALWAYS a Buckeye.
Pretty sure Luke has 2 sets of twins
Jack Tatum hates targeting penalties.
I really like Fickell. I hope that wherever he goes to start his head coaching career that he ends up back at Ohio State someday.
One only needs to look at the Buckeyes roster to realize Luke isn't going anywhere.
I saw Ryan Day hang 62 on Michigan...His hair was perfect.
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
I think Fickell would make a really good linebacker coach. I wish him well if he leaves. Also, Fickells sister lives in San Antonio and was at one of the alumni clubs game watches. She didnt discuss his future, though
Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye
He could probably get in at FAU because of their AD's OSU connection but I don't see many other programs biting. Even a job like cincy is a hard gig to land.
Nothing wrong with being a career DC/LB coach.
I really felt badly for Luke during the 2011 season with all the stuff that was going on and felt especially the offensive staff really was only going through the motions and doing a terrible coaching job.
He was thrown into a horrible situation for which he was not prepared.
Lots of respect for him.
Potentially losing Fickell, Schiano, and Beck can have a big time effect on our recruiting. Those guys are responsible for a lot of the big time recruits we have especially Tate Martell/Emory Jones and the Texas recruits.
Maybe. But, at this point I think guys are coming to tOSU to play for national championships, not to be with a very specific position coach (I'm speculating here). I would hate to see Fickell/Schiano/et al. go, but Meyer has shown us he is more than capable of replacing departures with equivalent or better coaches.
Would hurt to lose Fickell or Schiano. Those two are awesome across the board.
I could see Fickell taking the WKU job and Schiano taking the Temple gig. Would stink for the Bucks, but Urb would probably be able to get Strong for a year or two.
While I would love to see Schiano take the Temple gig, I can't see it. To go from the NFL to the Temple HC is something of a drop.
Hard to predict though
The Bengals really need a new coach.
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
Pick your landing spot carefully, Luke. Look at Tom Herman and Chris Ash.
Also, please take Tim Beck with you. That is all.
Other than the article stating that Fickell wants to be a head coach, nothing in his comments suggests that is the case.
I thought the same thing...read the article and was left wondering what him wanting a head coaching job had to do with the rest of it.
I think there is a 0% chance Schiano would take the Temple job. I think it's Oregon or bust this year.
If Kent State opens up this year or next, I could see that being a place for him. If he's successful, his climb could be similar to Fleck's. I think he's going to have to settle for a bottom feeder job. I don't see anything like a Temple being in the works for him.
Kent is a place a guy like Fickell could have a lot of success. Ohioan born and raised, already totally connected to HS coaches throughout the state for having recruited it for the last ten years, tough & football-crazy kids in NE Ohio who would love to play for a Buckeye legend. I could easily see this.
Did we win?
He deserves the chance if he wants it. His only chance so far was a pretty bad spot but he has been great as a defensive coach. He would be really missed if he does go. He has been the bedrock of the defense despite shifting secondary coaches along the way. I hope he sticks around but if he wants to go than he deserves the shot.
Would stink to lose the two defensive coaches in one year though. I am sure Meyer could find some good people to replace them but Fickel was always the constant and the new guy came in with that already in place. I doubt the scheme would change too much though. As Meyer seems to like certain concepts on defense and the coordinators have reflected that.
I think it's time, homies.
This was a good piece. If if leaves after this season, I think Schiano stays on one more year and runs the gig. There may be some bigger slots opened for Schiano after next season. He's ready for a big program now. Luke needs a few years at a Cincy and then the big program.
If you think. Fickell has played and coach with some pretty big names. How he takes their wisdom and makes it Luke Fickell, is the problem. It's not always easy.
In any case, I will always be a Fickell fan. I want him to succeed where ever he goes. Besides, if those boys have Fickell genes, he's going to have some serious man-mouths to feed.
Schiano is not leaving after this year. Even though he's been mentioned as a candidate at Oregon it looks like he won't be a finalist. He will be around for another year. As for Fickel I can see him at UC or FIU or even Kent St. heard rumors that Paul Haynes might get fired
If I were Schiano I wouldn't go to USF. I'd wait until a power team popped open, which could be after next year.
If I were Fickell, I'd take UC or Kent. Those could propel him to a power team after a few years.
I think fickell will make a great head coach someday. but not right now i think he should wait another year continue to learn under urban and then when he feel ready leave. same thing smart did under saben he was with nick all thoughs year then when the time came he took the advantage.
I don't know what my future holds, but I do know who holds my future.
