I have to say Vince Carter is up there for me. His performance at the dunk contest was amazing and his dunk over the 7ft center in the olympics is still a great watch. Its amazing how nonchantly he did that.
CLE - Where we "wait till next year" every year
Still the standard. VC could have won the Dunk Contest ever season. He did it once to prove a point. It was made for a guy with his vert and overall athleticism.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
I was lucky enough to watch that live. Was just unbelievable and absolutely blew away everyone else.
no doubt, this isn't even a debate.......VC all day......
"Life is not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. THATS HOW WINNING IS DONE!!" - Rocky Ballboa
Vince Carter put on a show in the Dunk Contest, and his dunk in the Olympics was just VINSANITY.
+1 knarcisi, it does look more impressive when little guys dunk! have you ever heard of jacob tucker? another little guy with big hops (5'11 with a 50 inch vertical). here are some of his in game dunks ...
" ... poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king, and a king ain't satisfied 'til he rules everything ..." - The Boss
And he's white. Double wow.
Dang, dude can bounce.
Pain of Discipline
Pain of Regret
Take Your Pick
That's a good call KNar.
Inch for Inch the best dunker in the game.
Vince Carter, Nique, Dr. J, Jordan, Kemp, Daryl Dawkins, Tom Chambers, Isiah Rider, Larry Nance, Kenny Walker,...
For my money though, give me Vinsanity.
I remember as a kid seeing him win it and beating Dominique. Amazing.
In game, Shawn kemp
Dunk contest, Vince carter
I gotta agree with Kemp. His early year highlights were amazing.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
This Shawn Kemp:
Not this Shawn Kemp:
favorite buckeye dunker is slam thompson!!! all time i'll go with vince carter
Please, the Dr.
Bron Bron almost pulled that off... during a game.
It's seriously unfair that a dude that big is that athletic.
He had one of the most memorable in game dunks ever. Gotta rock the baby.
Brought back some of my youth there, CWRU. That's immortal Philly sports history. High white socks, short shorts and all, baby! +1 for Doc.
I will never forget that dunk.
Other than maybe Connie Hawkins, does anyone remember a player before Dr. J who was known for spectacular dunks? I am biased, as Doc is my all-time favorite, but I think he really was a key figure in revolutionizing how basketball was played at the professional level.
most ridiculous dunk in a game? vince carter jumping over somebody was impressive, but this one is jaw dropping!!!
To quote the crowd: "WHOOOOOOA!!!"
Ricky Davis jumping over Steve Nash is etched in my mind as one of the most ridiculous in game dunks ever.
Larry Nance may not have been the best, but he was my favorite.
If we go Cavs, I'll toss out Edgar Jones. Too bad his knees were a mess.
Loved Larry Nance, with the Cavs. Dude would get triple doubles with points, rebounds and blocked shots.
Joe Tate: "Nance with the Tomahawk Jam".
They would take out Nance and put in Hot Rod Williams, and not seem to miss a beat. "Wham! With a right hand!"
Joe Tait was incredible. Good memories.
The Human Highlight Film.
Or like Mike:
My favorite is Harold Miner. Very underrated, IMO.
I don't DV. Most people don't deserve it, and the ones who do probably enjoy it.
Wasn't his nickname Baby Jordan?
Michael Jordan. Never got to see him play, but the opening dunk sequence of Space Jam was one of my favorite movie scenes growing up.
"I kind of pulled back, and I think I pulled something." Orlando Pace
Gerald Green is pretty nasty.
Just what I was looking for. Gerald has to be my fave. I think I got Gerald, Russ, Spud, Clyde the Glide and Dr. J
Can't mention Gerald Green without bringing up his cupcake dunk
Lot of guys are awesome, but I'll take Russell Westbrook. The dude gets way up and throws it down with serious force.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "
- Stuart Scott
VC was my absolute favorite. However, as far as the ability to just do ridiculous stuff in-game, it doesn't get much better than LeBron and Rodney Carney. If I had to, I can really go about 5 deep on this - 1. VC, 2. LeBron, 3. Nique, 4. Carney, and 5. The Reign Man. Guys like T-Mac, Stackhouse, and the Glyde really get overlooked.
+1 for the Drexler mention. It's crazy he hasn't been mentioned to this point. One of the best ever.
My man Bill Wennington had some sick throw downs. Like this one over Patrick Chewing.
Antetokounmpo. His freakishly long arms make for some great dunks.
You copy and pasted his name in right?
Shit how could I forget, Steph Curry.
For his size and strength, I always thought Utah Jazz's Karl Malone was one of the Lamest Dunkers of All-Time.
Well he was a mailman, what did you expect?
For favorite team performance, I submit to you, Florida Gulf Coast. I remember watching the Georgetown game with friends, and thinking, "Damn, this is like NBA Jam in real life!"
"When people ask, where is Florida Gulf Coast, just tell them, 'It's in Dunk City, Florida.'"
How is there a Florida Gulf Coast mention without a pic of the coach's wife?
David Thompson. The original "Skywalker"...
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Yeah......Aaron Carter is the ball.....Aaron Carter's dreams are the backboard
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Get well soon Mrs.Naut 6-0 > 3-6.
"I pet a llama once. That's the manliest thing I've ever done."
kemp's body of work was impressive. something about how he sauntered off after the landing or his crazy in air flight path that he could straighten once he grabbed the rim...he was a ferocious dunker
Indeed he wasa great power dunker. Ferocious. And a prodigious sire as well, I might add. Somewhere 11W's own ShawnKempsKids is smiling. +1
Chris Weber was a hell of a powerful/explosive in game dunker.
John Starks posterizing Horace Grant (and a too late Jordan) in the final minute to ice a playoff game was a pretty memorable dunk, too.
Staying old school - Dr J tops my list.
Two others of note - Clyde Drexler and Kenny "Sky" Walker.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
There are times where the worst thing that can be spread is misinformation
David Thompson got it all started:
The Browns are back in contention for being the worst franchise in all of professional sport.
Reignman for me
My favorite... and this sequence shows why. I was very young when Dr. J came into the NBA, but I do remember watching the '77 Finals between Philly and Portland. It was during that series -- and these plays show it -- that my eyes were opened wide, and my jaw left hanging agape for the first time after seeing someone play basketball. What Julius did to poor Bill Walton (especially on the second play in this clip) was the ultimate posterization.
If SportsCenter was around during Doc's prime, what he did to opponents while going to the bucket would probably be on a continuous loop. His famous cradle slam on Michael Cooper at the Spectrum came when he was well past his athletic peak. Just amazing stuff.
His leaping ability, combined with his massive hands, made Doc the absolute best in-game dunker I've ever seen, still to this day, in fact.
I am at work so I cannot post any reference videos but please look up James "Flight" White. My personal favorite is Vince Carter but James White was pretty crazy. He didn't do much in the league and he sadly never won any memorable dunk contests but he had some really good ones.
we have a new horse in the race ... 6'1" and the dude did it in street clothes
