I would be shocked to hear a player from any other team in the country truthfully say that their strength program is more strenuous than the preparation for the draft.
I think it could be more a matter of all of the other things you have to do as a student that he just doesn't have any more. He can spend all day recovering from his workouts instead of jetting off to class. Also notice he mentioned not having to wake up as early which is going to make it feel a lot easier than doing similar drills at 5:30 AM.
Tyvis was on 92.3 in Cleveland leading up to the senior bowl and he said there is nothing he has done thus far (senior bowl practice or draft prep) that has exceeded the intensity of Urban's practices. He said something along the lines of "Urban doesn't play around".
"The Edge is where average stops and elite begins"
I wasn't training for the draft (trying to get in a camp), but in 98 I was training like this, deep stretches, working on fast twitch muscle explosion and 40 times 5 hrs a day, pretty much sleeping and eating the rest of the time. I would throw up at least once a day during the intense training and I was in fantastic shape. It was the hardest 2 months of my life if you take wrestling practice out of the equation.
the start of the 40 is everything, when I got to Cali I had a horrible technique, I took 2 tenths of a second off my time by learning how to start correctly. Hopefully Darron can pick up something that helps him run even faster and get him into the first round for sure.
That's how winners play. We convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.
Thanks for sharing your story Keyser!
One thing I've always wanted to know...Does the 40 training just help you improve your 40 yard dash time or does it actually help you get started faster once you put on the pads and play in an actual game? I assume anything that would help players get faster in a game is already being done on college workout routines all over the country and especially at places like OSU, which leads me to believe this kind of training is great for improving combine performance, but not for improving football performance. But would really like first hand knowledge from someone like yourself!
I agree about the start. I was 2nd fastest on my HS team. The fastest kid always got ahead on the start, then we kept the same gap throughout the 40.
After my playing days were over, talking to some D1 athletes, they told me about other techniques, like training to dig in and push off with the toes as well. Impressive stuff I hadn't been told as a HS player.

Is it weird to admit that I read this whole skully & all I'm still thinking about D'Angelo's balls? Wait don't answer that...or do.
Get busy living.
Your chosen screen name says it all.
That was amazing! +1 to you!!
Spence is an animal, and after what Von Miller just did last week guys like Spence are going to be in higher demand than they were before. Good for him, this has been one hell of a turn around for that kid.
Makes me happy, and sad.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Get well soon Mrs.Naut 6-0 > 3-6.
I have the same range of feels. I'm happy for him on a personal level that he was able to fight off drug addiction and get himself to the point where he is about to be drafted into the NFL, and to do that at such a young age is incredibly impressive. I'm also sad that I didn't get to see a D-line with him, Diesel, Bennett, and Bosa.
B1G QBs, and coaches are ecstatic that they didn't have to face Spence from 2014-15.
I really wish we could have seen Shazier, and Spence on the '14 defense.
Why sad ? This is a human interest story that can be shown to drug addicted kids for years. I hope he gets drafted by a team other than the Browns, and has a Hall of Fame career.
I get that it would have been a treat to watch Spense in scarlet and gray for two more years, but the Buckeyes won the natty without him in 2015, and another all American level DE would not have fixed the problems we had on the offensive side of the ball all year.
and another all American level DE would not have fixed the problems we had on the offensive side of the ball all year
I upvoted you, but actually, another AA level DE would have definitely helped the offense. The better your defense is, the easier your offense's job is, via better field position, turnovers forced by the D, etc.

But the D gave up only ,what ? 17 pts a game ? Not sure what giving up only say 14. would have done had they had Spense.
I love Greg Oden, but man, he looks like he's 50.
Priority #1: Beat Michigan
Well, he was 40 when he was at Ohio State so that math adds up!
"Football is, after all, a wonderful way to get rid of your aggressions without going to jail for it." Woody Hayes
There was this:
I remember laughing pretty hard when they were interviewing Oden before the OSU hoops title game. He was talking about getting heckled and he said someone at Sparty (I think it was there) was yelling out about him fighting in the Civil War...he's always looked old.
[] - []
His face looks 50, but it was awesome to see him able to move and dominate in China the way he did in college. I hope he gets another shot with an NBA team, and I imagine he will. I do know that dominating in China is more like dominating 18-21 yr olds in college than it is dominating NBA big men. But he doesn't need to dominate, the NBA always needs competent big men. Hope he can stay healthy and get a few more years of competition in, be it the NBA, Europe, China or somewhere else.
Question of the day: Does anyone find whining to be attractive? Just curious.
You sir, have won the day!
It gets worse than those. He looks like he's whining at those kids not to leave -- which they'd be smart if they did.
You got skim milk in them titties??
Thank the Maker that I was born in Ohio, cradle of coaches, US Presidents, confederate-stomping Generals, the Uncomparable Joe Burrow, and home of The Ohio State University Buckeyes- 2014 UNDISPUTED National Champions!
Great catch, BuckeyevstheWorld. NO ONE WHINES MORE TO REFEREES THAN THIS ___CLOWN.
It's just the way the pickle squirts. It's routine to him...
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
That is way too much Harbaugh.
11w is the #1 Michigan site on the internet for a reason.
I seriously find it strange that there is nobody within the TTUN football program to at least suggest to Jimbo that these things make him look like a fool. I mean passive aggressive tweets? Is he a 15 year old girl? And him calling someone else a whiner is kind of the pot calling the kettle black isn't it? I mean coming from the guy that throws a temper tantrum everytime his team is called for holding, its a little hypocritical. But to answer his question, no. Nobody finds whiners attractive. I just don't get what they see in him.
There was a time when TTUN's fans were all over the inter webs telling the B1G to be afraid. Now that we've all had a chance to observe Coach Harbaugh, I believe it is not the B1G who should be afraid, it is TSUN.
Jim Harbaugh might have Michigan on the upswing, but he's already three years and 29 points behind Meyer.
Bravo DJ. I've been saying this since he was hired. Sure he'll make them better, because they couldn't have gotten much worse. But it takes years to build what Meyer has in Columbus. Not to mention, he won't be slowing down to let Jimmy catch up either.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
That is true, it took Coach Meyer years to build an undefeated juggernaut and build a championship-caliber ...oh wait, never mind.
it took Coach Meyer years to build an undefeated juggernaut and build a championship-caliber
To be fair, Meyer took over a team one year removed from the Senator's control, so he wasn't trying to pull a program out of a ditch. The state of the program up north was ... a bit less well off (to put it exceedingly mildly).
Hoke recruited well just wasn't a good coach. I'd give more credence to this if Urban inherited the program directly from Tressel and not a 6-7 Luke Fickell.
The one area where Urban did get lucky is having Braxton Miller on the roster.
Los Angeleno by birth; Marionaire by the Grace of President Warren G. Harding.
There's Shane Morris for bad recruiting. Shane the so-called 5-star can't miss QB sees the field every game via a clipboard. He's one can't miss that missed. I don't think he recruited that well but I'll agree with you on the bad coaching concept up north.
Imagine how dominate Ohio State would be in recruiting if Coach Meyer would get with program and start having sleepovers with prospective recruits?
All kidding aside, Coach Meyer is in a class all by himself in the Big Ten recruiting world. Harbaugh has to use gimmicks, from sleepovers, tree climbing, hiring recruits parents and former coaches, to even compete with the Buckeye coaching staff. Harbaugh's act will wear thin soon enough and the way he "trims down" his recruiting class by dumping less desirable recruits when he finds higher ranked ones will have recruits thinking twice about committing early to TTUN. As for the rest of the Big Ten? Fish or cut bait, my friends. Upgrade your facilities with the huge windfall of cash you receive every year and upgrade your coaching staffs.
watch out DJ you may piss off the "we need ttun to be good crowd". as if our 2014 Natty isn't proof enough that we indeed do not need SCum to be good while we have urban meyer. the day he became the HC of TOSU we immediately got back all our cred lost among the tattoogate fiasco.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
"Daddy, what's a pager?"
One day I will valiantly become a political prisoner of 11W jail.
"But, I don't want a pager. I want a car phone."
Mickey Marotti is a master at sculpting young men into gridiron monsters. Once a young recruit "buys into" the program at Ohio State there is no limit to the heights that they can achieve. It is a lot of hard work and I am sure that recruits get "torn down" both mentally and physically before getting built back up through their commitment to the weight training and nutrition program but one cannot argue with the results.
"master at sculpting young men into gridiron monsters" is much better than "meat wizard". Reminds me so much of DJ's "man meat" gem...
This basically means nobody outside of Ohio State has a shot at the national title anytime soon.
Noah Spence has "JJ Watt" written all over him. He will be a hand-full for any team to block and contain. It will be interesting to see which NFL team will look past his "drug issues" from his early days as a collegian and take a chance by drafting this pass-rushing stud!
too bad he didn't finish his career as a buckeye.
Only 100's of galaxy's? I read where there were a billion stars in our galaxy, and an estimated additional billion galaxy's. And, that's conservative. Makes ya think... "we are not alone."
Yeah there are definitely a lot more than 100s, and some of them are so massive the milky way looks like a pea on a dinner plate in comparison.....that stuff has always fascinated me
^ best post ever ^
I think they were referring to the amount of galaxies obstructed by the Milky Way that they couldn't previously detect. They were trying to explain why there is something pulling us in that direction at 1.2 million mph.
1.2M mph. Ted Ginn's 4.3 40 now seems awfully slow...

It is somewhat amusing that JimBaugh is tweaking the S$C, but it is pretty weak all the same. And while this camp thing is technically within the rules, it still seems like something that should not be happening. Hate to side with the SEC on much of anything, but no need to run a camp thousands of miles from home.
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
Actually he is pretty smart about this move into Fla.. Look at the top 100 recruits last year and 80+ were from the south. That has been pretty well protected by the SEC and they are crying foul, and saying that "it will hurt the students" (as if they give a shit). And at that IMG academy there are at least 8 players in the top 150. Since he has not done the work Urban has in establishing himself in Fla., he is making Mich. known again down there. He is trying to break that SEC stranglehold for Mich. and you gotta give him props for that.
Agree. Hate to admit it, but Harbaugh is clever on this one. I'm not sure what other B1G football players do during Spring Break, but making it a fairly supervised team event in the SEC's warm and sunny backyard might just be a pretty good move.
I do not disagree in that it is legal so do what you can, just not in favor of it myself. And the amount of money TTUN is spending on camps like this and JimBaugh jet-setting all over creation is disconcerting. Not that _ichigan spending tons of money bugs me per se, but just seems that cash like that could be better used. Maybe I am just a stick in the mud is all.
Wow! That WMD about Jeopardy, DJ. Makes you wonder about people's sense of entitlement and anonymity on the internet. I wonder how many of those jackholes have wives, sisters, daughters. One would think forwarding their comments to their family would be enough to make it stop. Then again, maybe not.
Yeah, I read it and thought the same thing, altho I can't deny the fact that I clicked on it because the tittle of the article was so tittilating.
Hey DJ! Can you guys please start putting captions underneath pictures. I know the two players are Jashon Cornell and Justin Hilliard but I have no idea who the older gentleman is. There is always people pictured and I have no idea who they are.
I used to put them in but it's a formatting issue according to the site's sachems. Theres an alt text you can hover your mouse over to see.
The older gentleman is Justin Hilliard's dad.
You mean our site wizards cant handle something CNN, or even dare I say, MGO can do?
Don't drop the soap...
Don't drop the soap...
Oh they can handle it. They just don't like the look of it unless it's a picture coming from somebody else. Again, not my call.
Birm adds text in the Hurry Up pics. Really helped with recruits I didn't know.
They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you for snitching on Birm to me. I'll have to have a talk with him as that's against 11W policy.
'Vel primus, velcum primis'
Thanks DJ! I though that was his dad looks a lot like him but wasn't positive.
What is an alt text?
That's the only thing I like about Harbaugh, he can just keep pissin off the entire SEC forever as far as I'm concerned
That dude is a meat wizard.
A new nickname for Coach Mick?! Someone trademark this for DJ!
Trust me! I'm an Engineer.
Let's go with Meatball Wizard and let the Who parody lyrics write themselves...
Interesting WMD on the Jeopardy incident. I googled their pictures to see what all the fuss was about, and they are pretty normal looking women. I guess it's like the old saying goes, "everyone who watches Jeopardy is a sex-crazed deviant."
I would've thought Wheel of Fortune or the Price is Right
Common mixup, but this only applies to the host of Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right.
Pat Sajak especially, there's more to him than meets the eye: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2092249/Pat-Sajak-Vanna-White-dr...
I can understand Minnesota, NW, Iowa, IU, Illinois and schools like that struggling in recruiting. But PSU and Nebraska should not be struggling. That are blue blood programs.
Blueblood for the 1990s, maybe. When was the last time either of them competed for a title?
When was the last time either of them competed for a title?
I could make a joke about how it's been so long since they were in the national picture that they are more like a Blue Ball program, but I won't do that.
Is there anyone better for recruiting for the future for us than Darron Lee? It's well known we can send 4/5 stars to the NFL, but D Lee shows what kind of development any future mid level prospect can get here at OSU if they put their mind to it.
Would love to see Oden come back and coach the bigs here someday.
Its amazing what a family buying into a program can do for that program. Thank God we got Darron Lee cos Candice Lee is an amazing recruiter. A stark contrast to Landon Collins Mom who kept shouting "LSU" & "Geaux Tigers" when he committed to Bama.
Weaux! His mother? I tho't the pic was a parody with a guy wearing a blonde wig.
Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Aina I ka Pono. The life of the land is preserved in righteousness. (Hawai'i state motto) Aloha nui kakou.
Wishagain fans are out of their minds crazy that the way too early polls have them up to 3rd rank in some. We are 10th in that poll because of what moved on. I seen nothing on that field up there in last years game that convinces me that they have anything what we have can't handle. I wonder what the spin will be after next year when they finish no better than they did last year? Harbaugh dances on the limit line constantly and I will enjoy the day he crosses way over and it costs them.
DJ's link to the Oniony-like Spurrier article where he speaks his mind on other countries as if he were an ambassador is a hoot. Here are just a few gems:
Just be warned: if Bret Bielema offers to show you the splendors of the Fertile Crescent, he ain't talking about Lebanon.
Jim Harbaugh's the Japanese: he fishes wherever he wants, pisses everyone off, and was mistreated on the West Coast for reasons that don't make any sense.
Cuba is like Ole Miss. No one's supposed to go there, but it seems like everyone does anyway.
I'd call FSU the Netherlands of football because most of their players stay below C-level.
Life is full of choices. Make good ones.
The SEC complaining about recruiting tactics, regardless of the culprit, is the funniest thing I have ever heard.
No doubt! Hypocrite, much?
Oden looks really good why doesn't a NBA team take a chance on him?
Really good in China typically = average at best in the NBA
For example: Andre Blatch averaged 31 points and 16 boards in 2014 in China
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
looks like nobody could keep him out of the lane in that video, i hope some team gives him a real shot, maybe if Duncan retires, the Spurs will pick him up next season. he still has legit big man skills on offense and defense.
Nebraska has aged as well in the 21st century as a pager
LOL, DJ always has the best one liners ... you can't teach that it's a gift.
Greg Oden looked pretty good in those highlights. I remember when he was coming out of high school there was a stat that he had the highest vertical of any 7' player ever measured. He was very athletic for a big man ... what could have been had his knees been able to handle his frame with all the explosive moves required for basketball.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Oden looks healthy. What does he average..like 7 dunks a game? jesus
