sounds like we should get our booms ready for Harrison

Is the assumption we may get back in on Gary because Durkin is taking the NJ connection with him to Maryland??

Just for clarification, Harrison is being offered as an Athlete/Linebacker correct?

HS

Can't help but get the feeling of "settling". Is there a significant drop off between recruits?  Obviously there is some or we'd have already offered.

Just trying not to get bummed.

HS

They must have "settled" on Darron Lee, he turned out pretty good

Not true. They saw Darron Lee at camp and liked him.  They had him come back and play another position the next week and they offered him.  He committed early.  He was not an eleventh hour commit.

HS

I can easily add at least 20 more names to that 3 star "Darron Lee" list.... I will choose to trust the evaluation abilities of Urban, Fickell, Johnson and the boys.

HS
bucknut1994's picture

Okay let me direct you to the 24/7 Team Rankings for 2016. If OSU has to take an eleventh hour commit from a 3 star it's not the end of the world.

Thanks for the 2017 link. Personally, I am amazed that Penn State can still attract a top ten class - and I'm not talking about the violations. When I watch that team under James Franklin, they have an Indiana feel to them - and not because they have a dynamic offense, but because I just wait to see how they will lose the game. But I'm surprised 4 stars aren't impacted by that.

HS

False, the Lee recruitment couldn't be any more different

So get bummed.  Who cares.  Urban brings kids to Columbus who can play.  How people like you seem to forget that.

HS
stxbuck's picture

Urban is NOT going to waste a scholarship on someone he knows can't contribute. He knew he could slow-play Harrison for a bit while he saw how things played out w/ Hayes and Juarez-arguably two of the top 3 or 4 LBs in the country. Congrats to Malik for getting that Buckeye offer-I don't think it will take him long to make it official.

Is Harrison a 12 guage or a line backer?

He played some QB in high school because a lot of coaches like to put their best athlete at QB, but he's not a college QB prospect.

He is, however, a fantastic athlete; he's one of the best basketball players in central Ohio. With his height and speed, he could end up at LB (like Josh Perry), WR, TE, or DE.

Wonder why there is no interest in Keishaun Sims, Ohio's Mr Football. Playing tonight for the DII title.

The article / press release about Sims being named Mr. Football, says he is getting some interest from MAC schools. He's listed as 6'0", 170. Sometimes high schools exaggerate the size of their athletes, but I've never seen him and have no idea if that's the case here.

I do know that I searched for him in the Rivals DB, and he wasn't in it. So, I'm guessing he hasn't been participating in high-profile camps, etc.

HS

I've only ever seen him listed at 5"10, but I am guessing he is closer to 5'8 or 5'9. He doesn't really jump off the tape at me, which is strange because he used for what, 3,000 yards this season?

That man in the picture is only 14 years old? Forget the rest of the state, put a fence around just that kid and don't let him go to Michigan!

HS

It took 2 min into his film but Wint finally wrapped up on a tackle. The guy has it all from an athleticism aspect but definitely won't be playing defense unless he learns to wrap somebody up.

HS
rdubs's picture

Considering that our coaches focus on rugby style tackling he'll learn.

HS
Jake321's picture

I'm sure his coaches teach to wrap up, just like they teach in rugby tackling. The main difference is that rugby tackling teaches to put your head behind the ball carrier instead of in front.

Any chance that seeing Sandwisch in person gets Reuben, I mean Urban interested, seeing that the need is still there for a LB.

Anything new on the Mique Juarez front with Helton staying on at USC?

Birm how do you see Clark fitting in here?  He doesn't run now and won't run at all in college.  OSUs offense is sooo much better with a read option Qb as we've seen.

HS

How do we know?  We didn't have a prolific offense under tressel because that wasn't his style.  Urban hasn't shown us a pocket prostyle yet.

"A day after canceling their scheduled at-home visit with Daelin Hayes, signaling the end of that linebacker pursuit, Ohio State has offered Malik Harrison, a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Walnut Ridge in Columbus."

Should have offered him much sooner.........talent close to home does pay off many times....Perry, Lee, Conner.....to name a few...

Question for birm..what are the chances we land Jonah Morris? Was he "auditioning" for an offer from Urban during last night's game? Seeing that he has those gloves on, I'd say he wants that buckeye offer..

The 14 year old is huge, but not in shape w/ size the way Josh Meyers was at a similar age. Still a heckuva prospect-I imagine Sibley and Clark will be in his ear about the whole "Michigan is my favorite school"-they have another year together!

There are some size similarities between Harrison and Morris, with Harrison a bit heavier.. Are they two different projects at the next level (Harrison, as Brim stated an LB, and Morris a hybrid)? Is that the reason for why Harrison has the offer and Morris not?

Re: Nolan Rumler.

I was all stoked until I read this last part. "He's a good candidate to be the first Ohioan in the 2019 class to earn a Buckeyes' offer –– he's already got one from Jim Harbaugh and Michigan is reportedly his favorite school."

Excited about Malik Harrison being our next boom. He has tons of room to put on some good weight and would be an absolute beast of a linebacker for OSU.

Glad to hear Harrison isn't being looked at as a QB.

I'm a bit concerned with late recruiting.  For one thing it wasn't long ago that OSU was reportedly done at recruiting linebacker.   I argued that they really really needed to take another LB this cycle.  Because next cycle could be a small class and we are going after so many WR and DB's in that class.   If his agility is good he will make  a fine LB.

Now it seems like they are throwing stuff up on the wall trying to get a LB.   I'd say just take the best kids you can get at any position at this point.  There are still an awful lots of kids available out there.

Sad to hear that Michigan is NOLEN RUMLER's favorite school.... wtf is up with that.   He lives in Ohio.   Word was that he was handling James Hudson fine and he is only a freshmen.   Would definitely be nice to seem him become a buckeye.

I'm surprised that OSU seems to be having trouble landing another DB, DT, LB, or WR in this class.   Yes It is a good class but these are real positions of need.

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

I think that the reason the coaching staff decided to get another linebacker is the Kyle Berger injury. He reinjured the same knee that he had hurt in high school and, even though I have read nothing definitive on his injury, he may be done as a football player at tOSU. I hope that those reports are premature and wrong but that would make sense as to why we are now hotly pursuing a second LB in the 2016 class.

HS
GoBucksBazley's picture

I was really impressed watching Jonah Morris, hopefully he gets an OSU offer and the Buckeyes can make some serious headway in his recruitment. Wouldn't hurt that he already has chemistry with Clark. Would love to see an Urban Meyer special with Rashan Gary, thought OSU would be out of the running for him, but hope he gets back to Ohio State for an official and see what happens from there!

Because I couldn't go for three
