I'm boycotting those that are boycotting black.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Get well soon Mrs.Naut 6-0 > 3-6.
As you should, their logic is flawed. Believe it or not folks, our uniforms are far from what they began with (some of my items that I've collected over the years):
I think you get my point...
Living the life! Go Buckeyes! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1942, 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968, 1970, 2002, 2014 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!
See.. Our uniforms used to be Black and White!! We are honoring our history!
Cheeky bastard ;)
"Conversely, Urban Meyer and his players are an unstoppable army of football automatons that feel no emotion and win in any and every setting."
Exactly my HISTORIC point of reference. :-)
In all seriousness though, I remember reading the original school colors were Black and Orange... So that would be at least one original color!
Chosen by a committee but quickly changed to scarlet and gray. They were never the official school colors.
Princeton chose the same colors so we changed

My Black Helmet bobblehead (circa 1962) with kid colored helmet and pants option (I never could bring myself to correct the kid's coloring efforts) agrees.
Yeah! If you wont listen to Urban and Shelley Meyer... Listen to Mr. President!
Most importantly the football program needs you LOUD LOUD LOUD.
Everyone bring a #blackJersey.
This is like the 314th time you've posted this and yet it is still funny.
You got it on stand by huh?
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Yep. I haven't had to go find it to recopy in a little while.
Nicely done - the first time I saw it today I LOL'd at work.
I think it was in the Laser Hair Removal thread
Thanks. It's fun to be anonymously immature.
I saw that laser hair removal thread. Did someone just bump it for some laughs? I chuckled a bit.
"The future is bright at Ohio State."
"Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends"
Yeah - just a bump.
I liked seeing the Ricky Gingivitis Raising the Wolf thread. We should just bump it whenever we are having a tough football news week and think the sky is falling.
We've gotten to the point where being ranked #1, undefeated, and having a top 5 class is a "tough week". #BuckeyeProblems
But TTUN blew out Northwestern, meaning, we should start panicking.
Too early to start a #FireUrban thread?
Maybe just a tad bit BVTW
You start that one. Then, I'll wait a week and start a #FireUrbansReplacement thread.
I know man. It's sad. The Wisconsin boards were saying they lost the gem of their recruiting class when Antonio Williams de committed. He would probably be in the middle of our class ranking-wise.
They lost Borland, and Williams(assuming he commits) to Ohio State. I can think of 59 other reasons to be upset.
Hey, Seattle - here's something called a Black Jersey Giant:
"Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." - Groucho Marx
"The recipient of Oyster's ONLY down vote".
Now we're talking.
I bumped the Cajun self chat thread - it was too funny not to ,,,,, after 3M posted it in another thread
Awesome Vet, it even has some Scarlet on it.
GoBucks for the win, as the first person to notice the scarlet!
Nicely played, BvtW.
I just now got that.
Now I feel like the idiot who doesn't get it. LOL
It's New Jersey.
Even if you don't like the jerseys, please wear black to add to an environment that could potentially look like this.
Bollocks, it won't embed. Sorry, everyone. OSU's video team added an awesome video of the potential blackout on their instagram page if you want to check it out.

This is definitely where I parked my car.
How much would an order of 5,000-10,000 black shirts cost typically, and would it be too late in the game to get those before Saturday? Thinking about heading down to campus Saturday handing them out to people not wearing black.
Man, that would be unbelievable if you did that. I'm sure you could round up some folks to help you from eleven warriors.
You got that presidents salary?
The "getoffmylawners" I think are for the most part coming around and seeing that this isn't really a big deal and that it's one game, one night, and for all intents and purposes it's going to make for a pretty killer atmosphere. That Urban Meyer fella knows what he is doing.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I spit my drink when I read "getoffmylawners"
I may in line for down vote central here but if you are so arrogant and prideful that you can't support the University for this one night then what makes you any better than our 3 favorite super fans? This isnt about you. This is about supporting this school and this team. I live in the south, dont embarass me when I walk into work Monday because you are too "I'm above this" go all out for the team that goes all out for you. Don't be a super fan. Team first. #blackuniformsmatter
I live in the south
I bet SEC fans would do a blackout if their players were asking for it. Even the old people.
Yes unless you are Georgia. The color no longer exists in Athens.
Georgia is doing a blackout against Kentucky. The craziest part is that that game is now a toss up.
http://askmagicconch.com/#/ask Student at The Ohio State University
Plus as an "SEC fan" they cheer for a ton of different colors so Black is probably a part of the tradition
The Cavs preseason game on Monday had a free Cavs T-Shirt in every seat in the Schott. It made my day. Granted, it would be ultra expensive to do this for the Shoe, but is doable if we had a corporate sponsor.
I just worry that it will look like a giant Scarlet and Black checkerboard. I worry about the older folks that dont have a Facebook or Twitter account and aren't aware of Urban and Shell's call to arms.
But those people probably watch the local news and/or get the local paper.
People have to talk about something just to keep their voice boxes in working order so they'll have good voice boxes in case there's ever anything really meaningful to say. - Kurt Vonnegut
That's true. Hopefully channels 4,6 and 10 local news has been promoting it in their sports segments. Sports Radio shows probably mentioned it too.
I will be wearing my Scarlet Jersey.... with a Black coat... because I can.
According to the weather forecast, black coats/jackets/hoodies will be required. (Except for those filled with an alcohol-based anti-freeze solution.)
WHAT WOULD (insert one: Woody, Earle, Coop, Tress, Urbz) DO?
copious amounts of fireball
Ha! I take it you won't age. Nice.
"You're welcome for the house I built."
I remember this half-ass attempt. It was ugly and did not look like the picture. Hopefully buckeyenation does better!
_ichigan sucks, _ichgan has always sucked, _ichigan will always suck. Even if they are good, _ichigan STILL SUCKS!!
Yea, that schematic looks pretty complicated. I think the please wear black command should fare better, but it's hard to know for sure.
That was hard because no one is getting really pumped for UCF. As well as scalpers have no idea where their seats will be, this will be all black(hopefully).
Edit: I also have more black Buckeye gear then gray 3 shirts to 1, so maybe others have more black gear as well.
Worst thing is Ohio State isn't "officially" having a black out. The coaches and players on twitter are saying it but not the school. No way most non twitter users wear black.
Why won't the school just officially announce it? Everyone within the Buckeye football program is. Nobody in the OSU admin has told Urban and co. to stop promoting this so why don't they just get on board? It's going to look stupid if all the students and young people wear black, but all the older folks wear their traditional scarlet. I really hope the Columbus radio stations have been getting the word out.
I think it has something to do with copyright issues. I may be mistaken, but I think someone copyrighted "Black out the Shoe" or something like that. That's what I gathered from Gene Smiths interview earlier this week.
With that being said, why can't they come up with some similar name, find a couple sponsors and print up $50k shirts like Penn State does for their "White Outs"??
"The deadliest weapon in the world is a MARINE and his rifle!"
GEN. PERSHING, US.ARMY
Penn State owns all variations of Black and Shoes.
My personal conspiracy theory that I just made up is that Delaney told OSU that we have to let Penn state have their thing but that Urban doesn't play by those rules
I heard WCOL talking about it on my way home from work yesterday. Not sure if other stations have, but the word has definitely spread beyond twitter.
We should strive to keep thy name, of fair repute and spotless fame...
(Also, I'm not a dude)
I've heard it on 97.1 The Fan, Facebook, Instagram, and of course also Twitter.
Lock of the week: Trending in the wrong direction
I first heard about it first on 11w :)
yes, I'm still alive
anyone seen wearing scarlet, I am going to yell at you through my TV
Can i wear white? I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one...err buckeye guy
"faith seeking understanding” (fides quaerens intellectum)
Do you think the PSU section may be white?
I had to remind a few people going to the game in the scarlet colors it only costs like $12 for a cheap new black hoodie to wear. Most never thought of that thinking they needed to buy $150 jersey. Put a cheap black Hanes t-shirt over the scarlet and have some fun people!
I agree. When it comes to a blackout game, it is more important to wear the color, than it is to wear actually Ohio State merchandise. Wear black, even if it's a FUBU sweatshirt!
LET'S ALL WEAR FUBU SWEATSHIRTS!
Yes! Plus 1
"The magic word's rock n' roll, Man!"
Ill be wearing black and hopefully everyone else wil. I cant post forums yet because of helmet stickers but I just bought my tickets tonight. The prices were a little to high for me to get close to field so I bought 3 tickets in section 8c row 31. Has anyone ever sat there? Are they good seats? Either way im just glad to be apart of this sell out crowd at night to see our boys play and see the horseshoe blacked out. Im so pumped
Get there early as it'll be a hike to get up to your seat.
C deck is a pretty high up view, and row 31 is nearer the top. But you wont have an obstructed view. Being at the game is a blast. But dress warm because it gets windy up there too.
Sat up there for the western Michigan game not a bad view u can see the whole field which is nice and see the play develop. But the crowd up there isn't really to loud as it is down in the b and a sections. But being a night game it will probably differ have fun and wear black!!!
"And Michigan still sucks!"
My wife and I will be wearing black in section 10C Row 31. Look for us!
The Browns are the worst franchise in all of professional sport.
35A Row 27 here...looking forward to a fun night at the Shoe!
But the truth is, the world is so much stranger than that. So much darker. And so much madder. And so much better. -Dr. Who, "Love and Monsters"
I thought people could just wear a black Glad bag or something like that over a T-Shirt.
Totally unfashionable people can do that.
I wonder if everyone going just brought a few extra black tee shirts to the game. They could give them to neighboring people who forgot?
Now if the team could enter the horseshoe with the man in black singing "God's gonna cut you down".
"Championships are not won on Saturdays in November. Championships are won on Tuesdays in August." -- Kerry Combs
That would be perfect. I could dress as Johnny Cash and get the crowd to all sing it.
How about the TBDBITL Drum Major in a black tux?
I've never been crazy about the black uniform concept, but I'm down with them doing it once or twice.
Class of 2010.
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
Wow...there's a hell of a lot of for the marketing folks.
It might be a topic and look ok for about 3 seconds for the broadcast, but its not much of a deal. And the crowd won't cheer any harder in black, nor will the team be any more pumped/inspired by a stadium full of fans wearing odd colors that match the unis they're wearing to rake in a few bucks for old OSU. End of the day, this has nothing to do with spirit, the team or the fans...it's all about putting money in Nike and OSU's pocket via merch sales.
So wear what you want and enjoy a great game in Nippert...er, the Shoe.
Tell that to penn state...
Exactly. You're not paying attention if you don't notice what these type of "marketing stunts" actually do to the environment and the game. Urban has said numerous times that the White-out at Penn State was the best athmostphere he's ever experienced.
Jarhead, even if it is done strictly because of marketing and loading Nike's pockets with money, you are not being forced to buy the product. But when the coaches and players are basically begging the fans to wear black, they obviously care about this more than you would want. So why not provide them with that extra juice instead of letting them down. As a former athlete I know I wouldn't be as pumped for the big game if the fans aren't either.
Exactly!! If you feel the need to "Stick it to the man" so bad... Then stick it to Nike and buy $5 Hanes shirt and there ya go... I have a feeling that the peoples need to be stubborn and different goes beyond the football field.....
Sorry...been busy, so just getting back.
Any coaches and players "begging fans to wear black" are both nuts and focusing on the wrong things.
As I've said, ain't nobody getting any louder, rowdier or more supportive of the team because they are wearing black. PSU will be no more intimidated or bothered by crowd noise if every swinging dick is wearing black. And other than a 3-5sec pre-game camera shot for the network, nobody outside of Nike/OSU will get anything out of it.
Lastly, if I recall, we won in the face of that "terrible whiteout" that Urban has apparently said was the best atmosphere he's ever experienced. Just saying, it must not have been too traumatic and overwhelming for anyone on our sideline. So I can't imagine a slightly smaller crowd all in black will be any more intimidating/distractive to a PSU team that puts on a Whiteout every year.
To each their own. I'll be the guy in Scarlet, wearing a black Semper Fi hat (I always wear it,,,but at least the lettering is Scarlet. lol).
That's a lot of words just to point out you're not a team player.
It's like people forgot what being a fan is all about. Jarhead sounds very selfish and only wants to be fan of certain things. Not a true fan, in my opinion.
If I could downvote you, Mr. President, I would.
Calling Jarhead "not a true fan"...What an idiotic statement. Get a life, man.
It is here that I'm happy to be.
Gave you an upvote to get you closer to your goal of down voting me.
Ehh...you and others who feel like you do are entitled to your opinion. I'm not sure how wearing the school colors rather than some marketing-inspired gimmick color (even if requested by Meyer and I've heard players asked as well although I did not see it) is a selfish act. I paid my money, I cheered the team, sang my Alma Mater and even quieted a guy booing Cardale (even though I've felt JT should be the guy all along). Maybe my Scarlet jersey ruined the atmosphere for you. If so, sorry...not my intention. My enjoyment of the games comes from what's going on down on the field...not the appearance of fans around me.
For what its worth (not much), I thought the shoe looked ridiculous tonight, not "cool," but that's just my own opinion. On the other hand, the Bearcats Bucks played 2.5 good quarters. Maybe that was because they were extra inspired by the black-dressed crowd. (Man I hope not.)
Regardless, the downvote thing is silly and nobody should down-vote you for having an opinion. It's not my place to decide who is (or what constitutes being) a true fan. And while I don't recognize your qualification to make that designation about me either, you sure as hell are entitled to your opinion.
At least now we can move on (until the next time Nike decides its marketing time).
Penn State chooses one game to "white out" every year and it is always the most intimidating environment in football. It gets people to band together and go wild.
I'm going down just to tailgate and be a part of the experience. It's going to be awesome.
Wear black to the tailgate.
I keep seeing this "intimidating" comment in several forums and I always get a good laugh. Does anyone really think players are intimidated when they come and see a crowd wearing a the same color of clothing?
I will not let you in my house unless you wear black.
I'll be wearing my black hoodie and tshirt in Florida. If you're lucky enough to go to the game, it is your responsibility as a Buckeye to wear black.
Going to be pretty cold, so it is going to depend on what color jackets everybody has too.
Jackets are for the weak.
Jackets are for the weak.
Or the sober.
Damn, that is a great observation. Hadn't even thought of that. Younger people will wear black and deal with the cold, but older folks will just say screw it. Maybe the older folks have black sweaters??? Interested to see how this plays out. We need to hack social security database and deliver black hoodies to every Columbus resident who is SS eligible.
I do not even think it matters too much. I was at OSU games as a student not that long ago and remember still having a jacket on in the cold games. You get pumped for a while but you still get cold. Particularly if there loads of breaks in the action.
It doesn't matter the weather. If all you have is a black T-shirt, guess what, your ass isn't wearing a jacket.
One of the problems with the EVERYBODY MUST WEAR BLACK OR THEY'RE OFFSPRING OF HITLER idea is that it's going to be UNDER 30 degrees Saturday night. That's cold for mid-October.
So, although people may start out wearing a black t-shirt, longsleeve shirt, sweatshirt, jersey, hoodie, etc. ... Eventually they're going to HAVE to put on a jacket! Not everyone owns a black jacket. My main jacket, for example, is a medium gray North Face jacket.
I support the "Black Out", but some of you guys decrying anybody they see in non-black attire, and jumping to conclusions that they're "arrogant" or whatever --- need to dial it down a few notches.
They don't HAVE TO put on a jacket. layers with a black hoodie, gloves, warm hat, etc can keep you just as warm.
I dont own a black OSU hoodie or jacket BUT I do own a black hoodie and an Undisputed shirt. So while I may look like a total idiot I am going to wear a long sleeve under my hoodie and then the Undisputed shirt over my hoodie. Problem solved.
Look for me wearing this.
“Don’t fear criticism. The stands are full of critics. They play no ball. They fight no fights. They make no mistakes because they attempt nothing. Down on the field are the doers, they make mistakes because they attempt many things.”
I'm hoping to be able to post this again, after the game.
The common thread I see here is that old people are a problem. Why do we let them live?
That's a great question....until I get old ... and then ..how dare you!?
Lol, exactly! Lets make a new rule that everyone is taken out to pasture at age 65. It eliminates our "the shoe is too quiet" problem and also solves the social security funding crisis at the same time.
Check out the movie "Logan's Run." It's about a future society where everyone is killed off after reaching 30.
The fashionistas within the fan base got what they've always wanted but still feel the need to make thread after thread begging others to share their enthusiasm over an alternate jersey.
LOL at thinking that wearing an alternate jersey for one game = evolving
LOL at thinking that wearing an alternate jersey for one game = evolving
No, you are right, but who is to say wearing the black jersey for 1 game doesnt become a yearly tradition?
The enthusiasm isn't about the jersey itself, but the environment the coaches and players want to play in front of. If you are going to the game and you have the knowledge that the players are wanting a blackout and you don't wear black, you probably shouldn't cheer for the team either...but if you are the typical old man who is at the game sitting on his hands you probably don't cheer much anyways.
Give the team what they want, it's not a life or death situation, but it could cause the team to come out flat if the fans aren't invested in the game.
This is Ohio State and I'm pretty sure the environment of a primetime game would be electric with or without the black jersey. I will be at the game and will be wearing black. I'm 35, far from being an old man.
Seems like you're confusing this thread being about black jerseys, when it's clearly about what the fans are being asked to wear, not the players. The players are wearing the uniforms given to them by the school. This thread is about the fans doing something in unity.
Yeah, God forbid, like cheer your lungs out for the team you profess love...like stand for 60 minutes!!! It really is for the same kind of reason...support the Buckeye players on the 2015 team in the Shoe during these moments in time!!! Does any thing else really matter??? This should be a rhetorical question but look out!!!!!!!!
My Blackout has nothing to do with our jersey color
"because we couldn't go for three"
SOSOSOSOSOSOSOS does anyone know how early the lane avenue garage will fill up tomorrow for overnight parking? Or any other overnight garage on campus? Please and Thank you
sooo no state penn fans showing up ?
i doubt they'll be wearing black
Got tickets yesterday, didn't have any black OSU stuff. Went to WalMart and got a 10 dollar black jacket to put over my non-black gear.
My buddy who is going with me did the same. He also offered to pay for my ticket if I wear a bright orange hunting coat, because he's like that.
Still going to wear my cheap black jacket, for posterity...
i'm not wearing black not because i don't own any black shirts but because i'm sick of all these Bitch Boys and their wear black for the game or else shit
go fuck yourselfs when you start paying my bills then maybe you can tell me what to do
You're calling the head coach and players for the team you allegedly support "bitch boys?" That's who has asked you to wear black. But go ahead and give them the finger and do whatever you want because...?
It's clear who he's calling the "bitch boys". They are the people in the forums that insist that you must wear black to the game or you are not a true Buckeye fan. No where in his post does he call Urban and the players "bitch boys". What are people going to talk about after this game is over? Hopefully just football.
Ammobuck you read EXACTLY who i ment
i swear it seemed to be getting like this :
I already got my black on. Kinda pissed it's jacket weather. Grabbing my black coat. Black shoes, black socks, black jersey, black jacket, black hat. All decked out.
Man the brown shirts are really out for this blackout thing. I mean are you gonna be like ISIS and walk the stadium corridor and eject people who don't wear black? What's the penalty give up your tix? I know college campuses are the most intolerant places in America but Jesus it's a freaking football game. I can't wait until this Thing is over and get back to talking about all that matters, the damn game. I'd say 80% will be wearing black, isn't that enough? It's not going to sway the cfp committee guys.....
