If it works for Urban, Cardale, JT and the rest of the Buckeyes then it works for me!
Can someone please tell me how to up one?! I just joined. Didn't see it in the fyi stuff. Go Bucks!
You have to earn enough upvotes to be able to upvote. I threw one your way.
I upvoted you.. but I think I regret it since you "blue" in your username...
Everyone watch out for this guy.. he might be a fan of that team.

Well he is saying to Buck Blue.
I'm betting he wanted to use an F for the first letter so I tossed him a sticker.

That's a winner toss!
Why not BuckFlue?
Ohio State was 6-for-6 scoring touchdowns in such situations against the Terrapins, something it had struggled mightily with over the first five games.

I think we're talented enough to come out of the big ten title game undefeated with either guy back there. Having said that I'd say make somebody stop the 2 QB system before we change it up ourselves
Krenzel's going to throw for it! Gotta get it off! They go for the ballgame...touchdown! Touchdown! Michael Jenkins! On fourth and one! Would you believe it?! Craig Krenzel strikes with a minute and a half left! Holy Buckeye!
Same thing with the read option. It may be possible on paper to stop it, but until someone actually does, let it ride!
My only concern is continuity on offense. Saturday it didn't seem to be an issue, though.
We change out receivers, TE's, running backs and some lineman.
To be honest, I wasn't a fan of the thought of the platoon system for the QB position, but both CJ & JT played great. If that's a sign of things to come this is going to be fun to watch and a nightmare to game-plan against.
And maybe, just maybe it wins Urban the eluded BIG COY.
He'd have to go 8-4 for consecutive years to nab that one.
In Urban We Trust.
Hate to say it, but that's probably headed to Hardashian or Ferentz unless they both crash and burn the rest of the year.
They have to give the participation trophy to someone.
No way, if Coach Meyer can't win taking a 6-7 team and going 12-0 or winning a NC with a 3rd string QB, no way he beats Ferentz from Iowa.
I think everybody on this site knows where that award is going this year and it isn't Ohio! I think at this point in his career - it would be an insult to give it to Urban! That ship has sailed.
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
I believe, besides running ability, JT brings a faster decision, which is so very important in a condensed field. You also add another helmet to the party. JT is an accomplished runner who is an accurate thrower with a good touch, or, an accurate touch passer who is an excellent, nearly a thousand yard rusher. It is all good.
This team is so freakin talented. I love how Meyer is using them both. Great time to be a Buckeye!
We'll see this weekend how it goes against a legitimate defense. If it continues to work, no reason not to do it just because its not conventional, and it is sure to please everyone in the fan base when both guys are scoring.
It makes sense. Cardale's deep ball means nothing inside the 20.
PG <3 PG
Exactly. Well put! This plays to the strengths of both guys, and still allows them to get into the flow of the game. It's not traditional, but if it works, who cares! I'll take TDs in the red zone via non-traditional strategy versus FGs with a conventional strategy all day!
Drive, Drive on down the field, Men of the Scarlet and Gray!
Yet another example illustrating why we have the best coach in the game. If this past game is any indication, Urbs is an absolute genius. Unbelievable.
Yes Meyer is a GREAT coach.
Although, to deem this a "genius" move is reaching. This should have been done much sooner than after struggling and bumbling through the creampuff section of the schedule. Imo, he's mishandled the QB situation from the rip.
Disclaimer : I was a Braxton man. Needless to say, all I long for now is to see the most efficient QB behind center

If it works the rest of the year like it did on Saturday, no one can argue with the results. I liked it cause it worked, cause I like it when Ohio State wins. So simple, everyone can understand that reasoning, except maybe this guy.

When you spend as much time as he does on Twitter, you definitely don't expect him to understand. I heard they had to put down the Walrus after that face to face encounter. So much ugliness in one human face was too much for him.
Bo Schembechler: Student of Woody;
Gary Moeller: Player for Woody;

Nope, not Hoke, although, I can see why you made the inference. Hacket must have said:
However, there was a low ceiling with IQ.
The 2 QB system also forces the opposing defense to scheme for both players, thus eating up a lot of the time the opposition spends on preparation for the game. It won't always work as well as it did against Maryland but I feel that it will work well enough that Coach Meyer will use it throughout the rest of the season.
I am all in! Iron out the little wrinkles and get this scoring machine cranking!
And it already is! 6 out of 6 in the red zone.

It's a good start, but let's not minimize the fact that it was vs MD...
The starter should be able to do that - If not, why have him in there to begin with? I don't have an answer, just questioning shit out loud.
True, Tiger. The team looked great with the team captain in as QB. Hope they improve the red zone play with Penn State, refine it at Rutgers, and then rest on Halloween, before taking it to the two MIch teams in November.
I'm curious if this might be a psychological move by Meyer. Jones now has to connect on the deep ball or he won't be throwing TD passes at all.
Energy derives from both the plus and negative
A note aside - since the team switched back from the gray stripe sleeves in the cover on this post the offense has sputtered. With the gray stripes, we shut out Wisconsin, beat Bama & won the national championship. Not to mention exacted revenge on VaTech and shut out Hawaii.
"There is nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."

Good point. Get those championship gray-striped sleeves on the uniforms!
I was elated to see JT in the red zone. That was the best the offense has looked since we saw them at the end of the year last year. I truly hope that this system works out and there are no issues. But.....
As I have said on other threads, what concerns me is when either one of the two is not performing. I think it is especially tricky if Cardale comes out and plays poorly in a tight contest. Not that there wouldn't be calls/chants for JT anyway, but I think this platoon system lends itself more to that sort of fan/critic reaction.
All of that being said, if Urban thinks this is the best solution, then I am 100% on board. And if there are any 2 quarterbacks in the country that can handle the pressure of this situation, it is these 2 young men.
Cardale is still putting up with the aftermath of his 'didn't come to play school' tweet right along with generic, incessant noise from the OSU 'sky is falling' fans, the 'Barrett is our Savior' fans, general SEC trolls, and the ever present 'stop being a real person and win us another championship' fans...I'm pretty sure he is capable of ignoring the addition of some pearl-clutching and calls for Barrett after every less than perfect play.
For all those complaining about how switching quarterbacks may hurt team morale or divide the team into camps or otherwise affect the team chemistry or pit the quarterbacks against each other unnecessarily...what team have you been watching? There is so little personal drama on this team that you are inventing it for excitement...
It hasn't occurred to anyone that the reason why both Cardale and JT had struggled to start the season was because they were splitting practice reps but in order to get good at a dual-quarterback system you have to practice splitting reps. It's just taken them 6 games to get it fine-tuned.

"True role models don't expect to be thanked at the end of the day for what they do. They just do what's Right" - Kyle Maynard
this isn't a two quarterback system the way that jackson and germaine was. that system did not have defined roles - neither guy knew when he'd be in or out. this is a two qb system, but still with 100% defined roles, a la leak and tebow, which we know for sure worked well enough to win a championship. i am not ok with two qb systems where neither guy knows what to expect, but i am certainly ok with this arrangement.
I think this is a very good point. Having defined rolls like this in my opinion should seemingly help clear up the qb situation (as opposed to further mudding the waters). Also, this seems like a good way to play to both guys strengths and get them both touches and keep them happy.
Not to mention at the end of the day the most important thing is results and so far so good. As long as that continues to be the case I see no reason to go away from it or change.
CLE - Where we "wait till next year" every year
Shoot, Rex Kern used to get pulled for Ron Maciejowski. in the middle of a game, and then switch back...
Plus, the Buckeyes have the added assurance that should one QB get injured or just have a bad performing day, the other is not coming off the bench cold. They should both have their heads in the game and be somewhat warmed up to go in so win-win and no drama.
"“I think so, but I’m not writing it in Sharpie yet,” Meyer said Monday during his weekly press conference when asked if Barrett will be used permanently in that role. “We’ll see how it goes.”
Round 1 to J.T. for 6-6 in the red zone....If it's working, why stop?

Just going to throw this out there - does this mean that if a game goes to OT, then Barrett is the finisher? College OT is nothing but red zone offense.
Worked out alright last year!

Question to Coach Meyer ( Post game Maryland)
Reporter: And if J.T. is the right guy in the Redzone... in that situation... Why isn't J.T. the right guy all the time?
Coach Meyer's response....
Careful now. While I myself find that photo to be quite humorous it can start a less than ideal exchange in the threads.
It will work fine with defined roles. The problem, and hoping it doesn't come to that, will be if the fans/team/coach don't like one of the roles in a game. Still seems like Urban is hedging his bets, which I don't have a problem with. If one guy struggles late in the season both guys will now have plenty of live reps moving forward.
And some football food for thought. This was going to be the Cardale show from the first snap of the season. Did Cardale struggle and lose the red-zone gig? or did JT get back in the picture as Beck's role increased in the playcalling? I tend to think the latter. JT seems like more of a fit for how Beck has called plays in the past and Cardale a better fit for Warinner and what he did at Kansas. Has only been in the last 10 days or so that Beck "gets" our system according to people with knowledge.
I see your 2 QBs and I raise you one RB...

A QB's best friend is a good running game...
I love that both are getting reps because we get valuable depth. If we get up by 21 or more...... I'd love to see Collier get a few series.
This becomes a sensible solution if our receivers get separation and get open deep. That way, we take advantage of CJ's arm when there is a lot of field in front of us and JT's accuracy in the red zone when the windows necessarily get smaller (and his running ability).
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
I know 12 gauge has a big arm, but his accuracy on the long balls has been less than desirable. And without a Devin Smith out there to find them, not as effective.

I think both quarterbacks played great this weekend but one converted 2 of 7 third downs and the other was 3 for 4. As long as we win it doesn't matter but can we please make a 40+ yard field goal
Field Goal? Tressel? Is that you? ;)
Some times you gotta say...
I was shocked how well it worked last Saturday- which is all that matters.
I do wonder, however, if Cardale will be tempted to go for bigger plays more often "between the 20s" to keep his TD stats up. I know I would!
Both guys seem to be pretty selfless and just want to help the team any way they can... Great "problem" to have! If the Buckeyes lose this year, it's not because JT didn't start or Jones kept getting swapped out... It's because teams lose and unfortunately another team was better for 4 full quarters. But I pray there is no loss for a long long long long long long time ;)

I think that Coach Meyer knows just how lucky he is to have two incredibly mature, high-character young men involved in the QB discussion. The adjustments Meyer has made this season would not be possible with self-centered egotistical players. Ohio State is blessed to have them and they both hold a special (and growing) place in Buckeyes history.
