Agree with this 100% having lived in Indianapolis 25 years. I missed the entire first half of a Buckeye game down there sitting on 37 when there was no construction. 46 will back up too, leave early.
Hold fast that which is good.
Thanks for the heads up! I will be making my first pilgrimage to Columbus West in October!
Good call on not taking 37.
Construction, traffic and highway closures have been a nightmare in Indiana this summer. Thanks, INDOT.

What's with all the random IU game day advice today when it is weeks away still?

Apparently, if you're taking 37, you need to leave now.
Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.
Everyone is getting their tickets now because they are cheap, great place to visit. Thus bringing up now.
This is a good article on the situation from the Indianapolis Star:

I was in Bloomington for a funeral Saturday. It was a mess at 4:00, for an 8:00 game. I agree, 46 is the better of the two bad choices. Take his advice.
Has game time been announced yet? I assume it will be 12pm or 3:30
Go Bucks Baby!
Hey guys I'm new to the site and i am also going to my first game this weekend against northern Illinois i was wondering what time i should get down to Columbus and what stuff can i do around stadium until kickoff? All the info would be great thanks guys and Go Bucks!!!
I would get down on campus at least around 10 or so. A lot of good parking will be available around campus. I suggest the old at building off of Lane (diagonal from shot). Easy in and out after games and hop on 315
Alot of stuff to do including watching the team walk to the stadium, skull session in St. John's, hit up a few tailgates and then it's game time! Hope you have a great experience!!
Thinking about heading down to Bloomington for the IU game. Which sections in Indiana Memorial Stadium are generally the "visitor" sections? I know "all of them LOL" and I realize Ohio State fans will probably comprise 75% of the crowd but if you could tell me which sections are the "traditional" visitor sections where the highest concentration of Buckeye fans will be, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Thanks scarletbuckeye yea i was planning on getting down there around 10. I live in marion, but ill be seated in 29a so i think ill be by student section. I've always wanted to go to a game its a dream come true I'm a die hard Bucknut lol born and what do you mean about the tailgating ? Is there any way to get autographs ? And do you have any suggestions where to eat
Bump, I know I'm not the only one who was looking
Any advice for folks coming from Indy/Chicago? Is it better to take 67 down past Martinsville before cutting across? Any idea how much time that will add?

I just drove to and from Bloomington from New Albany, OH this mon/tues. So this applies to anyone in or around central OH, and even Cinnci if you are thinking about taking IN-46
All I can say to people is LEAVE PLENTY OF TIME. Entire southern half on Indiana is one construction project after another.
1) If you go I-70 to 465 to IN-37 be prepared to be stopped in traffic a long time. There is about 20 miles of the highway that is one lane with contruction just north of Bloomington. Do not reccomend.
1) IN-46 option. To the OP and people who read the OP. IN-46 is closed just east of Columbus, Indiana BOTH WAYS. The detour they reccomend is NOT the best way to go this way. This is for people who would normally take I-74 which is the fastest way. Also you might not be able to hit 65 from IN-50 that intersection is under construction
My Option... Once in Cinnci take 275 to IN-50west then hit IN-31 North until IN-46. This bypasses the closed road and the stupid IN-3 detour. Total time from New Albany, OH is about 4 hours 30 minutes regular IN-46 is around 4 hours.
Thanks for this comment, that'll save a ton of headache as I'm going to the game from Hilliard!

Thank you for this, MR! I was just going to blindly follow what Google Maps said, I would have been livid if I got caught up in that construction mess.
Thanks Skinny. This was posted on bucknuts so I thought I'd venture over here to get a 2nd opinion. FYI this was an opinion on the OP of this thread:
"You'll regret it. And when I say you'll regret it, I mean you won't see the game. Ever try to take SR46 on a normal day from Columbus, IN to Bloomington?? Yeah. How about during tourist season (now)?? Ok. How about during an Ohio State game with all the above.... Right. Unless you've tried it, don't recommend it. It's one lane the whole way. But you won't make it past the left-hand turn in Nashville, IN, which is where all the weekend tourism takes place. Trust me. Unless you live there or go there OFTEN.... don't try it. The normally 45-60 minute teip from Columbus, IN to Bloomington (with traffic) will easily take 2-3 hours. It's ONE lane.
The State Police are making sure the construction is at a minimum for Saturday. They will be doing everything they can to keep traffic moving. You will be WAY better off"
You can go see the road closures on this map from the INDOT website.

Trying to process all this and apply it to myself. I'll be in Indianapolis Friday. If I'm processing everything correctly I should take 65 to 46. I'd be joining 46 beyond the east of Columbus, IN closures and be good, correct?
Unfortunately there is no solid answer right now from Indy
Usually to bypass northern IN-37 crap I take 70 west until IN-39 and go south but all the construction is south of where that gets you.
If I was you I would leave time and just tough it out on IN-37. Going 65 is not the straight away and who knows what bullshit can happen on IN-46, its a one lane road in the hills.
Looking at the INDOT map, I think you'd be clear taking that route. But, I think SkinnyTrees sounds like he knows what he's talking about.
Someone tell the BIG NUT to go that way of construction...That way we won't see the big CLOWN embarrassing the BUCKEYES TRUE FANS!!
Figure there should be one last bump just to catch anyone else that is heading to the game tomorrow morning and is not aware of the traffic issues.
Leave time and everything will be okay
