I can't imagine what it must be like to go through spring, summer workouts and hell week with the strength coaches just to go down right before the start of the season. Feel bad, for him. I think he will come back better than ever as long as he doesn't let it get him down. I'm sure it helps having guys like Braxton around that have been through it. Buckeye Nation is routing for you NB!

I like DJ I really do but it's to the point now where I just ignore anything he says about music or Derek Jeter and remember to tell myself that hey this is a cat lover talking here. I mean every time he talks music he digs a deeper hole lol and he just keeps on digging and digging... smh... just smh

Get better soon and come back stronger Noah and Bud Foster you sir are an idiot!

I was looking at a house a couple days ago and the guy showing it asked me if anyone ever told me I looked like Derek Jeter.  My thoughts actually wandered through DJs take on him in that split second, told the guy 'you must be a Yankee fan' and left. was odd to say the least

HS
TraSmith4's picture

So you weren't interested to see where he (realtor) was going to go with that? I'm guessing had the realtor been female maybe you would have stuck around a bit longer? As far as you having DJ thoughts floating around in your head I have no thoughts about that other to say I'm sorry.

HS

That's odd, I never thought that Jeter looks Asian...

The most radical group that I grew up with was the Rolling Stones. Great band with great songs, but I will have to say that Enter Sandman gave me chills. I wish the Bucks had something similar to get with the times. I love the traditional song of Hang On Sloopy but its 2015! Come on you young 11Wers. Find us a song that even gives me chills. Damn, I am pumped for football.

Noah, you have a family of brothers that are hurting right along with you this morning. You are in the hearts of Buckeye Nation. Look at this a chapter in your life that made you stronger and anxious for the adventure of the coming years. Your future is bright. Keep fighting young man. Be an inspiration to all who have had setbacks but made their comeback something that made them and others stronger.

The Brown injury is terrible, especially for him.  With that being said, its no where near the def-con 4 level of panic that we saw last summer, losing a 3yr starter at QB, being replaced with a RS Freshman who hadn't played a snap since high school. The defense will be much improved.  The Slob are still the Slobs, Zeke, Cardale/JT, Thomas, Vannett, and Braxton.  That's more talent on offense than 99% of the teams in CFB.

When I read about Noah Brown's injury I felt like I had been kicked in the gut.  He was really showing out well in camp and seemed poised to have a huge breakout year.  Get well soon, Noah.

If Foster was even thinking about fining players that do not get paid something is truly amiss.  I hope Urban and the offense hang 60 or 70 on Foster's defense.  Ridiculous!

HS

I think he has to make the team as an emergency quarterback with Shaw being out a few months.  Keep TP as a receiver, and don't keep a third quarterback on the roster.  Seems simple to me.

Prayers for Noah Brown on a full and healthy recovery - if we learned anything from last year, this family is close, and I guarantee that this will be added motivation. It certainly doesn't hurt that he was killing it in camp, so there are no excuses to honor him with anything less than excellence.

As for that overhydration piece, I am sure coach Mick has this information already with all the sports medicine staff members on his team. Hyponatremia is no joke - but back in my day, we were lucky to even get water during football practice in the heat!

So maybe I'm missing something here, but what's so terrible about fining players if they screw up?  I think I'd rather have Bosa and the rest playing in Va Tech and fined rather then suspended.

HS
CC's picture

I don't think the fines are in lieu of suspending players, I think it's in lieu of extra running etc.  I don't fault him for using the tactic for any reason other than I don't think it will be effective.  Holding a coach's salary against him is juvenile.  Our culture has gone from celebrating wealth to shaming it which is counter productive imo.

HS
D.J. Byrnes's picture

Nobody is shaming Bud Foster for his wealth. I'm shaming him because he's a millionaire trying to take money out of the pockets of players who don't have any to begin with.

Like I said, will Bud Foster be giving back any of his paycheck if OSU hangs 50 on him? Don't worry, I'll wait.

Los Angeleno by birth; Marionaire by the Grace of President Warren G. Harding.

HS
d5k's picture

I am thinking back to the public urination case a couple years ago where some otherwise solid Buckeye veterans lost their summer scholarships but taking money away for being late to meetings is petty/controlling behavior.  You either have a scholarship or you don't.  The coaches should have no control over the value of the scholarship.

HS
michelled's picture

I think the problem is that they're student athletes, not employees. If we're going to maintain that they're amateur athletes, punishing them the same way we punish professionals isn't fair.

HS
Iwearmocs's picture

But we can pay them stipends?  They aren't amateur, which is why they deservedly are getting paid.  If we're paying them a cost-of-attendance scholarship, why couldn't we fine them for doing something that breaks team rules?

HS
NavyBuckeye91's picture

Because that probably is not in the scholarship agreement, and sound more like a labor contract.  If you go down that road, expect another labor organization movement, union bargaining, etc.  Big can...open...worms everywhere.

In that case, I retract my previous reference to "Next man up" and I replace it with the following statement:

"May the player (s) immediately following Noah on the depth chart find this a suitable time to demonstrate football skills in a game setting while maintaining the position's integrity until Brown returns from the aforementioned injury."

Furthermore, my wife sent me a list of the most popular children's names for the last year (we are NOT planning on opening a new roster spot to the Heinrichs lineup) and "Noah" was the most popular name in the US last year. Perhaps more than just Buckeye fans were expecting a big season out of #80.

And downvote me if you want but I was appalled at all the "We have no passing game now" banter last night. Even if it were pandering to VT fans, there were a few people who have like no faith whatsoever in this team, this coaching staff or the players we have left. That VT game just keeps getting tougher and tougher…I pray that nothing else happens because the playing field has levelled between OSU and the hokies. Will be one of the best coaching jobs all year if Smith can get his WRs to play at an elite level vs VT.

It's a small thing, but I think saying "next man up" 30 minutes after you hear about a season ending injury is too soon.  That's a phrase which is absolutely true if you're in the middle of a game when someone is injured, but that wasn't the case last night.  Notice that none of the players said anything about NMU in their tweets.  Best way to pay him respect is to recognize the loss, don't minimize it.

HS
Gratefulbuck's picture

Some of the players said stuff like "we got you", that's pretty much the same thing as NMU. I don't for one second believe it's being minimized by anyone saying NMU. Just a rallying call to arms, while thinking a head, thinking about more than one thing at a time, while still realizing that it sucks when something like this happens. PLEASE, don't take this the wrong way or read more into it than intended... but, Noah didn't die, his career is far from over, more than likely he'll get a medical redshirt and not lose any eligibility. That being said, I for one, feel terrible when something like this happens and absolutely mean no disrespect when saying something like NMU. I also don't believe anyone else issuing this rally call meant any disrespect. Here's to wishing Noah a 100% recovery. Your teammates got you. The season starts in two weeks.

I don't think fining Student Athletes out of their COA $ would be very smart. You cant bitch that Scholarships don't cover full cost of attendance and then turn around and say that you are going to fine players out of that $. That's like admitting that they don't need it in the first place. Bud is basically telling on himself here. Either he didn't want COA money or he only wanted it to utilize as a recruiting advantage. Bud should've kept that idea to himself.

The pot calling the kettle black?. I think ole Josh has a better completion percentage and QB rating than TP had at QB. What's TP going to say to Josh if he overthrows him?.....Nothing, he shouldn't say a damn thing.

I read for the cynicism.

"We are holding them accountable," Cincinnati coach Tommy Tuberville told ESPN's Joe Schad about possibly withholding cost of attendance money. The plan would address things like academic performance or violating team rules.

Bad idea imo.

Hard enough to recruit at UC. Putting out opinions like this isn't going to help. Good luck with that at UC, TT.

"I'm still hopeful Pryor can make some plays (if Josh McCown can get the ball within three feet of Pryor's hands — no small task for a guy who would be good if his brain were responsible for throwing a football) and end up on the final roster."

In regards to the parenthetical: U WOT M8?

So sorry for NB after all of his offseason work, and poised for a breakout year.  Get well soon young man.

I also feel sorry for his teammates.  Having to listen to Sandman for a week is cruel and unusual punishment.  Pretty sure it must violate some NCAA or United Nations protocols.

My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.   - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)

"Thankfully, Virginia Tech's athletic director intervened:"

AD Babcock did a good job on this one with no hesitation.

Former UC athletic director Whit Babcock, funny enough

I just hope everyone realizes although his foots in his mouth, Coach Foster is well respected, and isn't looking for some way to "screw over his players" like deadspin would have you think. And it was in response to a direct question from a reporter, so it wasn't like it was his idea to just start outlining plans to starve his players.

If he beats this song into his team for the next week and a half(!!!!!!!!!!!!) then it will send the Buckeyes into a Pavlovian blood frenzy as soon as it blares through the 1980-era speakers that undoubtedly hang in Lane Stadium.

I love the phrase "Pavlovian blood frenzy".

In case you're curious, it's Mr. Spray

The Browns just don't have anybody like him and they could do a lot worse than T.P. for their Week 17 QB, a role usually reserved for a sud-soaked vagrant hauled off the street earlier that week.

The last name on this list being said vagrant.
