I think this year they are going to get him some WR time just to get him on the field more.

Ya might be another 2 years before he even gets a crack at qb

Like there's room at WR with Miller and Marshall?
"You're welcome for the house I built."
Interesting because I remember a major sticking point of his recruitment that drew him to Ohio State was the OSU coaches' promise that he would play QB not WR... Glad to see him giving it a try though.
Ezekiel Elliott...And He's got an opening! Elliott! Can they catch him? No they can't.
And he was recruited as a qb, he probably doesn't want to just sit back and hold a clipboard so he's doing what he can to get playing time. ( something he's said before in 11w interviews that is important to him) He's still practicing with the qb unit, but his time is obviously limited given his spot on the depth chart.
After he committed he mentioned he would be open to red shirting . so for him to start camp with the receivers may just be the staff trying to evaluate where he's best suited.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
He said he wanted to opportunity to play QB, but he would do what was asked of him to get on the field.
I believe he will be used in a WR role this year while working with the QB unit as well to get him on the field while also working towards his ultimate goal of being a QB.
I seriously doubt it.
seeing brax make the move is gonna make it easier for him to transition to that role to help his draft stock. He could be a star at WR
There was an article about it last week I think, he is going to give it a shot to get early playing time.
EDIT: I must've recalled incorrectly, I think it was a tweet embedded in the comments. If that's the case it is all speculation. Leaving my original post up for the DV'S for falsely reporting that info. #mybadguys
Earle for MOD in 16', it'll be the last best thing to ever happen to him.
Yep. He's committed to contributing, and he'll do it wherever he can. I think it's a smart move by Gibson.
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
Agreed, no brained here on his part. His day for QB will come though.
An article from whom?
I thought one of the staff had posted it and embedded a tweet from either Coach Smith or Gibson. It may have been a forum post though, I'm not sure.
Just searched through the site and can't find anything. It may have just been a tweet embedded on a comment, I really need to quit drinking and reading...
I was under the impression that Gibson was playing WR this fall, as well. So much information to be gleaned from this sight, it's easy to draw the wrong conclusions, sometimes.
Terrel Pryor played A few snaps at WR his freshman year, so maybe TG is just getting some work at WR so he can be inserted in the lineup for a few specialty plays where his height and ability could come in handy.
So much info on this site! Sometimes I think I just overload and things become a little misconstrued in my own head. I'm a firm believer of anything that gets that kid on the field will be a good thing!
This was probably the article that you're referring to... http://www.elevenwarriors.com/forum/ohio-state-football/2015/07/55623/torrence-gibson-practicing-at-wr
That said, Birm promptly shut it down with this:
Jeremy Birmingham Jul 2015, 2:03 pm
1. No one is "practicing" with anyone. There are no official team functions happening.
2. Torrance, if he's working with wide receivers right now, is doing so because guess what? They need someone to throw them the football.
3. Gibson will be with Tim Beck's group when camp opens.
Thanks for adding, this is the one I was referring to. I must have not seen Birm's post in it. Thanks, AJ!
Well-one more option for VT with the suspensions.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
I think Urban said that if 2 chinstraps break then Braxton is the starting qb (this was when he talked about the position switch). Gibson would be at best 4th, but probably 5th qb. He would see a lot more action as WR.
We all know TG is going to be #zone6 and #shhh here soon! Not that UM won't give him the opportunity to play QB, but that boy screams WR.
"Let's beat the shit out of Michigan. Have a good night." - UFM
Tip of cap his way, kid wants to get on the field and help his team however he can.
When I was 6 I was thinking about this rivalry. This one is seared on your soul, It's ingrained through every part of your body. -Urban Meyer
Gibson at WR? Gotta love Meyer and company. Keep the opponent guessing.
Saban on a cart eating cold pizza
Damn can the kid get in to camp first and can we let the guys who get paid the big bucks and got us a national championship make tha decision?
Glory lies beyond the horizon, challenge the unattainable, speak of conquest and make it real.
So the Buckeyes could have the following on the field at the same time....
JT - Can throw
Braxton - Can throw
Gibson - Can throw
Marshall - Can throw
God Lord, how do you defend that on a sweep or pitch?
You don't! ;-)
When you lose, say little. When you win, say less.
QB - JT
H - Brax
WR - Marshall
WR - Gibson
TE - C. Jones
Hell, for fun, can we run D. Lee out there to sub Zeke?
5 linemen and 6 QBs. JT passes to Dolo, who pitches to Marshall who runs an option with Lee lead blocking and Brax as the pitch.
Have you SEEN Zeke block? Guys is all but an honorary slob.
God yeah. Zeke crushes people. Was just trying to get another QB on the field, cuz lord knows we don't have enough.
Funny though, somewhere I read a summery of Zeke's NFL scouting report, and it said he needed to work on his blocking. To me that was just stretching to find something to criticize about. Saw a lot of LBs blitzing who ended up on the ground, and a lot of running holes get opened for JT thanks to 15. Love the Zeke.
I'm hoping he balls out in practice and maybe gets opportunity in the VT game.
“I have yet to be in a game where luck was involved. Well-prepared players make plays. I have yet to be in a game where the most prepared team didn't win.” -Urban Meyer-
That was tweeted because KJ is in the picture. Torrance Gibson has not moved to WR.
Who knows, maybe the fact that he sees Braxton, a two time OPOY recipient and a senior to boot, willing to make a switch, has opened his eyes a bit and made him more willing to be a contributor first as opposed to dead set on one position. Interesting to say the least...gonna be fun to watch!
No way, if they want him to play QB he needs to start working on it now. he needs every rep, every film room, every coaching session, watch and learn every snap JT and Cardale make... THen a year or two if he isnt progressing move him to WR. You cant just skip QB for a year or two and then pick it back up later.
this is the colossal mistake Mich made with Devin Gardner.
this is the colossal mistake Mich made with Devin Gardner.
agree that it would be difficult to be a productive player at 2 different skill positions, but it can be done.
Michigan's other mistake with Gardner was having a shitty OL, bad play calls, average RB's and average WR's. There were 2 games in Gardner's career that Michigan had negative rushing yards.
Were the RB's average, or did they look average because of the awful O-Line play?
and average WR's
Jeremy Gallon and Devin Funchess were a little better than average.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Get well soon Mrs.Naut 6-0 > 3-6.
When you have 2 WR's of any quality but run 3WR sets, it makes it easier for the defensive secondary to cover them.
Michigan used to roll out Avant, Breaston and Manningham, hard to argue that the size and skill of their WR corp hasn't slipped.
Jeremy Gallon and Frank Clark were a little better than average.
I think you mean Funchess, who was really more of a flex TE and never really lived up to all the hype. Roundtree was pretty decent if I remember correctly.
There are only so many reps to be had at QB. I don't see a problem with him playing WR when Barrett, Cardale, Burrow, or Collier are taking their QB reps as long as he's still taking his 20 or 30 snaps a day (or however much it is) at QB and not getting too tired.
I read a while ago that T.G. would be working out at WR. There are too many options right now at QB. He's probably a stud they need to get on the field early.
And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!
Birm clears things up above.
"Year for what?"
He says "not moved to WR." I was talking about taking reps/ practicing with them not full on changing positions. The same way Marshall often practices/ takes reps at QB. They still have their respective positions but do other things as well.
Yeah, i'll wait till a formal announcement or something is made before truly believing because I have seen a few forums and links about this before.
He often takes reps at QB? Don't think he ever did before the injuries. He was the emergency guy if Cardale got hurt because he would do just as well as redshirted Collier and they wouldn't have to burn his redshirt.
Thread dead . will not be the last Gibson to Wr thread. I am for him as a Xbrax throwing halfback/wildcat.
R.I.P. AfroDuck and Harambe
I have no idea what position he is playing but he has certainly done his work in the weight room. The young man appears to have come to work and that's all I need to know. He's going to be very good wherever he plays.
TG isn't moving to WR this soon but I have good news about his abilities at the position. A good friend of mine who played QB on the South Florida Express 7on7 team with TG said he was their best reciever. Some of the other recievers were Travis Rudolph and Ermon Lane. TG was a rising junior at the time
The world is yours
Best just to sit back and wait. I don't think Gibson is as good as Braxton is or was a Freshman but I think he has the same it that Pharroh Cooper from South Carolina has. Very similar these two are and good news for us is that Gibson has the ability to be that Electric.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Guernsey county mafia. Give it Hell 84!
This was his only choice if he wanted to see the field this season. He can switch his focus back to quarterback next season if he wants.
Torrance Gibson at WR was predicted by a few successful college football bettors in a Vegas syndicate a couple months ago. Geniuses, I tell you. For the record, these guys also bet Ohio State -10 after the suspensions were announced. I trust people who predict results with cold hard cash. Go Bucks.
I'm just excited to see the offense this year. I'm also excited to see the defense and special teams this year!! The haters across the nation will be tuned into every OSU game hoping they lose. It would be amazing to see OSU have an undefeated run into playoffs!

Gibson def has some velocity on those passes
UV. He's obviously gotten thicker and looks more like a college stud. Impressive!

Haha that isn't his sleeve, it's a fanny pack on the girl's back.
