Everybody plays their rival the week before the CCG!
I'm quickly losing respect for him. He's a whiny old shit at this point.
Spread offenses are hurting players.
We didn't have film on Cardale
We play or rivals right before the CCG
We got our draft grade right before the game
The guy needs a lesson in humility.
What about the bye week before your rival?
Are you talking about Chicken Shit Saturday?

I am loving the excuses. This means that they don't realize their flaws and will be exposed again. And again. And again.
if your draft eligible guys aren't performing let a pup get some reps. that's what bowl practice is for. playoff teams get 30 days to prepare. plenty of time to get your team up. its a direct indictment of the backups not pushing the starters, imo of course. schools out so all you have to do is train for the national championship. that's why so many bama players were carrying an extra 20#'s all in the wrong places. I think he realizes his D is built wrong for the spread offenses and he can only recruit over them so fast. funny how saban wants things that benefit his program the most. both issues he's tried to push would favor big DL & LB's in your front 7. sounds like the development is too front ended so to speak. coaches have to get better every day also.
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
And they probably discounted everything Herman told them a couple weeks ago when he visited them for the post mortem...
"Captain, over here, I've found someth... AHHHH!!!!!!"
The irony behind all of this is this is exactly what his own recruiting tactics got him. He told kids to come play for him, because he will get them the NFL money. Don't whine and complain when they preserve themselves for the cash. I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR URBAN! The focus in our program is on selflessness and team. So much better than a "dash for the cash."
"Indecision may (or may not) be my downfall."
All good points, CC. But whether he realizes it or not, the Buckeyes gave him a pretty good lesson in humility already.

And it should have been worse had Urban kept the ball in EZE's hands on first down late in that game.
And in the redzone early in the game...
Yeah the score could have been ridiculously lopsided if we had done just a few things differently.
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

We've heard Saban's/the SEC's excuses... Now here's a child describing what REALLY happened (what Urban did to Saban):
...and I got 2 words for you: GAME OVER!
That is freakin' hilarious.
Indeed, CC. Don't forget how they weren't motivated. Has Saban now used up all the possible ways to blame everyone but himself?
“Don’t fear criticism. The stands are full of critics. They play no ball. They fight no fights. They make no mistakes because they attempt nothing. Down on the field are the doers, they make mistakes because they attempt many things.”

what a little vagina! I sure hope the remaining recruits that it is coming down to OSU and buma get to see the response from sabin after a loss.
That's how winners play. We convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.
I specifically remember Landon Collins injuring his shoulder in the first half of the Sugar Bowl. The guy played his heart out, continuously re-entering the game only to continuously get re-injured and have to be helped back off the field.
Great point. Reggie Ragland also played his heart out. IIRC he was injured several times and finally lost a battle with Zeke's thigh. There were great athletes on that Bama team who played their best football that night. That was a sledgehammer game, as Urban stated. The only reason they lost is they played a superior team.
I agree total BS on HIS part.
If they were half assing it, why didn't he pull their butts off of the field and stick in one his next twenty plus, five stars?
Poor coaching on his part if he is letting his players dictate the on the field play.
"...the man who really counts in the world is the doer, not the mere critic-the man who actually does the work, even if roughly and imperfectly, not the man who only talks or writes about how it ought to be done." President T. Roosevelt
To be fair I'd probably run out of bounds too if Darron Lee's relentless ass was coming to destroy me!
It has to be really scary as well as a DB or a Safety and see 12 gauge running with his head down towards you.
By his own logic Notre Dame, LSU and Texas all now have excuses as to why Bama won their titles. Get out of here... You got out coached and out worked by a more talented team. Own it and move on.
And if for some reason his claim is true, then it's HIS fault for not being able to motivate them/recruiting players who put themselves first.
espn, bert and bama fans are about the only ones listening to his schtick - There is a huge difference between Urban and nick - and these types of quotes are just an example.
How could anyone take this seriously? He is like a crusty, bitter politician. Even if what he is saying is true, it comes across as nothing more than a flimsy excuse, especially to us though. That clown gets no slack 'round here.
But, that crap about playing Auburn and then your conference championship game? C'mon man... What about that Western Carolina tilt the week before Auburn? I bet he'd lose his mind if he closed with Georgia, then Auburn, as we close with Michigan State then our bitter rival.
I don't really care what he says, there's a strong chance I'm going to disagree with it anyways. He's just a dreadful human being.

Every Sugar bowl it's a new excuse, Vs Utah, Oklahoma his first words were excuses! the whole (We weren't playing a championship, Agents, Draft grades, player safety, no-huddle BS) like wow oh wow! That sports writers are only now starting to call him out for it is sad, most ppl have seen this coming for years.
In all fairness, let's give him the benefit of the doubt here. He's had a few tough losses in which his team was not prepared and didn't execute, because they didn't take the game seriously and they were influenced by outside sources. It's totally the players fault, everyone knows that. You don't hold the guy you're buying a house mansion for and paying $8,000,000 a year accountable..
Being a leader and showing leadership is taking ownership and responsibility if things don't fall your way. I hope this will be the beginning of the end for Saban, obviously it won't be quick I get that but I think he's done winning national championships.
I've said it since FSU beat Auburn - their day in the sun has ended. That will be the day we look back on, when the SEC started their current 0-5 slide in major bowls, as the beginning of the end. America woke up, and the SEC no longer has a guaranteed invitation to the championship game engraved for whomever wins the conference. It's over.
Mike North from FSR basically says the exact same thing. He also believes their rings will get rusty.
The writing was on the wall. All dynasties crash, and this one was propped up by 14 teams. They were the greatest collective self-fulfilling prophecy in sports history. No matter who won it, they were assured of a seat at the table.
I'm glad those days are over. Their fans are just the worst. Look at the education rankings of the states that comprise the SEC footprint once. And we wonder why LawTide goes on YouTube calling us "Chump ass Yankees"...
The thing is ----------- most of them give us excuses and not props. Calling us Luckeyes and saying it'll never happen again - wow I'm insulted. clay travis saying if we played again we would lose - he must have an awful life to say that garbage.
These coaches love their jobs I am sure but for the bottom feeders in the sec I wonder if the head coaches were actually cheering for the Buckeyes in the Sugar.
I agree on all counts. And, I think they're also the worst losers. But, I think that's still the cultural disappointment stemming from that big loss back in '65...1865.
WOW - and very nice.
You know what you call someone who loses and says he'd win if he played again?
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
Point taken there 78 - nice job
this one was propped up by 14 four teams.
FIFY - From 2000 to 2013 the SEC had eight BCS champions, but they only came from four schools: Florida, LSU, Alabama and Auburn. If we go back to the beginning of the BCS, you can stretch that to five teams with Tenn. The other 9-10 teamswere pretty much along for the ride, with the lone exception of UGA which won a bunch of games, but just couldn't finish.
Among the best winning percentages of the BCS era, the so-called SEC dynasty had none in the Top 5, but three in the Top 12: #7 LSU (.732), #9 UGA (.729), and #11 UF (.723). 'Bama and Auburn fell at #13 and #19. (#1, of course, was tOSU (.793) followed by OU and Texas)
From 1998-2012 the SEC vs. other major conferences was only 141-121 (.536), that's about as dominant as flipping a coin:
SEC vs. PAC-12 regular season: 10-12
SEC vs. PAC-12 bowl games: 1-0
SEC vs. Big 12 regular season: 6-10
SEC vs. Big 12 bowl games: 21-8
SEC vs. ACC regular season: 42-36
SEC vs. ACC bowl games: 16-9
SEC vs. Big 10 regular season: 7-4
SEC vs. Big 10 bowl games: 19-19
SEC vs. Big East regular season: 16-15
SEC vs. Big East bowl game: 3-8
Very well put together point, Navy. I was simply stating that no matter who won the SEC, they'd be in the national championship game. It didn't matter who it was.
I'm with you 3M. It was circular logic and BS preseason polls that artificially inflated the SEC's strength of schedule. I was just pointing out that the whole "best conference top to bottom", blah, blah, blah was a bunch of horse shit.
I like that term NB - I will have to use it against Mrs. Linga next time we argue.

The Utah-Bama Sugar Bowl was another epic game. I don't remember if Saban made this excuse or the commentators but many people kept talking about Bama's star O-lineman was out with an injury and using it as an excuse as to why Utah's D-line lived in the backfield all game. They gave no credit to Utah who has had very strong defensive lines for a very long time. It was hilarious...as if there is any team in the bowl season who doesn't have a starter who it out because of an injury during the season.

I'm pretty sure OSU was completely healthy, not like any "third-stringers" were playing.
does he think that it would only effect HIS team? I think most teams still alive dec 15th would have the same excuse; which obviously negates it as an excuse at all. yeah?

So Alabama's coaches didn't have its team mentally prepared to play the game?
This is exactly my thought. It is Saban's job to get the team in the right mental state for the game, his job to prepare them. An unprepared team is completely the coaches fault. I didn't hear the rest of the interview, but his quoted statement ought to followed with, "It's my fault". Coaches can't ever, ever, ever throw your own guys under the bus....

Nick Saban says playing Auburn and SEC title game is a challenge leading into a playoff.
— Joe Schad (@schadjoe) July 15, 2015
Clearly winning the SEC West should be enough. No need for the SEC West winner to play in the SEC title game, or the CFP. They had to play in the toughest division of the toughest conference in the country.
Alabama last three games before playoff this year:
Charleston Southern - Auburn - SEC championship game
Same weeks Ohio State schedule:
Michigan State - Michigan - Big Ten championship
What if you don't hear YOLO anymore because everyone who use to say it died?
With a 3rd string QB.
I was referencing the upcoming 2015 season, but this past season doesn't support his narrative either.
When a narrative is truly bad, it stands the test of time.
Yeah Saban, I'm pretty sure Wisconsin beat Auburn in their bowl game. Ohio State beat Wisconsin in the CCG 59-0. Real challenging rival right there...
And we've come to the center of the shrubbery maze!
I'm sick of the excuses. Fact is his team has not been ready to play for the last 2 Sugar Bowls. Despite being up 21-6 they were never in the game against OSU. They got their asses handed to them against Oklahoma. They have a practical bye before every big game they play. I wish he'd just suck it up and admit their guys weren't as good.
They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Or admit that he's lost a step as a head coach.
For fuck's sake. Take your medicine son.
Excuses (and Nick Saban) are like a-holes.
Everybody has a Nick Saban? Where the fuck is mine at?
They're so small - they're easy to misplace -
I laughed out loud in my office and my department head asked what the fuck my problem was...he is a MSU grad and even he laughed at it.

Well we had our 3rd String QB.
Surely he didn't actually say this, right? I mean damn, they're doing everything they can not to admit that Oklahoma and Ohio State both outplayed them in their backyard, in consecutive seasons. I've got a consolation prize for you -
Yeah, affected by Draft grades. Well, Nick how the hell do you think it affected Ohio State to go into a playoff and face #1 and #2 with a QB who had exactly one start under his belt?!?!?
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
And which team played consecutive games against the three Heisman finalists? Wait, it wasn't Alabama? Hmm...
Your signature will be publicly displayed at the end of your comments.
I would love nothing more than to play Alabama in CFP again this year so Urban can put this whiny little prick in his place.
...with a roster full of players who will have high draft grades.
So in Saban logic, we should give up now.
Yeah, Wargor. What's he going to say when we win it again - and - put more guys in the draft?
So, Landon Collins was playing not to get hurt and yet 12 Gauge busted his a-- up, anyway.
Yeah...Collins definitely needs to work on his "playing not to get hurt" game!
Now for some investigative journalism to track down some of Bama's draft picks and ask them if they agree with Coach Saban that they didn't try hard enough.
If you're looking for Bama's former players, try looking under the bus Saban's driving ...
I don't DV. Most people don't deserve it, and the ones who do probably enjoy it.
ROTFLMAO!! Yeah - talk about being loyal to your players!
Think about his logic in this. Your top draft players playing on national television. They are taking plays off and avoiding being hurt?
Really, because I am pretty sure with all of the NFL scouts watching them, they would want to be seen as a a player who is half-assing it in a title game for their team.
That would sure boost their draft value......... Sheeeesh, as an excuse, that one really stinks
Yeah, Landon Collins intentionally let his draft stock drop by playing it safe.
I guess I don't understand why OSU's guys weren't doing the same then. I guess OSU doesn't have guys who get graded for the NFL
And I didn't know that the draft grades that are handed out on December 15 were frozen in time. If a junior is projected to go late in the first round, apparently it won't impact his actual draft position (five months later, in April) if he plays like a heartless coward on the biggest stage of the college football season.
My thoughts exactly.
Aaaaaand it's your job as head coach to motivate them for the task at hand and keep them focused. Or recruit guys like Urban does who play for the TEAM first.
It wasn't fair for Ohio State to run a no huddle offense because Bama's players were trying to get back on the field after taking cover on the sidelines.
Sometimes, trophies mean more than draft grades.
But good lookin' out, coach.

How is it the NFL's fault his players didnt play with heart and didnt play as warriors. #ClowneySyndrome
The first half of that game Bama laying wood and really taking it to us. The Miller interception and the Spencer pass took their heart. That was the problem not the draft grade.
I dont like Saban but I respected the man as a coach. Lately, not so much.
I'm glad those draft grades didn't effect (here we go)
Basically Saban is blaming himself for not creating a family atmosphere where individuals are willing to put it all on the line for the sake of the team. We are a family at tOSU. Saban's basically saying "Urban...you are a much much better coach than me."
Saban...I agree with you.
Cooper made excuses
Smart made excuses
Saban now follows suit.
You got your ass kicked Alabama, just like OSU did vs Florida in 2006-07 game. Accept it and move on.
I now am firmly in the "I want Bama again" camp. Those jokers think it was a fluke.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
I don't always agree with ActionStanleyJackson but when I do it's because of comments like this ^^^
He can't just say they weren't good enough? Smh. What is the problem with admitting that the other team was inherently better on that day?
And you know THIS....man!
Because, the SEC is the best, so if they lose, it's not their fault
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
This, ladies and gentlemen is why Nick Saban couldn't hack it in East Lansing. He wasn't a great coach then, he isn't now. When the best the SEC has in regards to head coaches is those who couldn't hack it in the Big Ten you know our conference is superior.
Is saying your guys chickened out REALLY better than admitting you got beat?
Well put, Fatpants -
The delicious excuses are almost as satisfying as the win.

If video games had been around in Saban's childhood, he'd be the type of kid who reset the game every time he started to lose.
Video games weren't around then, so instead he kicked over the Monopoly board.
so instead he kicked over the Monopoly board.
I did this once when my older brother and his friends were beating me in a game of RISK.
I was pissed.
I guess that's a testament to Urban as being a better coach than Saban under that logic...Urban is able to actually motivate his NFL-bound talent and Nick couldn't. Or Nick could not be a dumbass and realize that the draft grades in December aren't the final evaluation of a prospect. The College Football Playoff should be one of the best evaluations for his players to participate in and raise their stock in.
Aside from his whining, I almost agree with him that that's a dumb time to give out draft grades. Wouldn't you want to see how a guy plays against another elite team in a bowl game before evaluating him?
The problem is many, including people here at 11W, and probably myself, were complaining that there wasn't enough time to make a decision. Example: Cardale Jones went from 3rd sting QB to draftable (some say 2nd round possibly) virtually overnight, and he had very little time to make a VERY costly and difficult decision.
WOW is Saban a whiny bitch...
Hey remember when people use to say Saban ran Urban out of the SEC?!?! LOLOLOL Yea that was really cute.
No disrespect to those who live in the South.

I don't know. Seems like the person is a little tall to be Saban.
She's a little too tall - but I get your point, P D -
Edit: Calpoppy beat me to it -
You guys caught me. That's not actually video of Saban.
I thought Saban was an oompa loompa? They are the same size aren't they?

Bama's linebackers are and were a huge liability. Big, slow
Bama's linebackers are and were a huge liability. Big, slow
Slow isn't normally a problem for them during in-conference play...
Shandy is not beer
Nick knew before he took the job he would have to play auburn right? Doesn't everybody play a big game to end the year?
that said, I don't disagree on the nfl thing, I suppose
True, but if we say, "We have to play TTUN and then the Big 10 Championship game" we don't get quite as many nods of agreement on how tough that is.
Beat me to it Wargor!
Double post, sorry
I can see why this guy is liked so much. Take your lumps and move on.
Wow, nothing like throwing your former players under the bus...
That would infer that he actually have a shit about them in the first place.
I'm not buying the 'running out of bounds' thing either. Not once did I see a guy carrying the football for them run out of bounds to avoid contact.
Maybe it was the ones trying to tackle the scary guys with the football. :)
Yeah, but at least they caught the number...12.
So nice having Joey Galloway getting a bigger role on ESPN. Guy just tells it like it is
Maybe he's saying that Auburn and the SEC Championship game aren't good enough prep for a team like Ohio State.
So it's a solid point actually.
I feel like Saban said the same thing when he was winning and everyone accepted it because he already won with the current set-up. There was no complaints because his followers would just say "Well he's winning, so it isn't like he needs any extra help and is actually looking out for players".
Once he starts losing, he says the same thing, but it now comes off as a whining because he can't win and needs to bend the rules or change them to help him win.
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
Ohio State's juniors had draft grades delivered to them on Dec. 15th as well.
Blaming the team chemistry change falls directly on the Head Coach, that's Saban's fault.
Sure Auburn is a good football team but you had nearly a month to rest and recover just like we did after rivalry week and the conference championships, not to mention the glorified scrimmage you had vs. Western Carolina the week before. Oh and by the way, that Auburn team he mentions lost too our B1G Championship game foe. And one more thing Saban, lets not pretend Missouri is some kind of elite team you beat in the championship.
These are excuses, we beat their ass fair and square and he's choosing to deal with it immaturely. That's what it comes down too.
Winners don't need excuses, because they get trophies.
So you can keep your excuses Nick. We'll keep our trophies.
Wait wait saban complaining about auburn then sec champ game. Correct me if I'm wrong but I do remember a wisconsin team who beat auburn in a bowl game. Last time I checked we held them scoreles in our big ten champ Game. Weak excuse Saban, No soup for you.

Damn I feel drunk already off of all this cheap Saban whine, but hey I guess it's 5 o'clock somewhere
For all of those who think Grey is wrong~ Dictionary
Funny, I never heard Saban complain about playing Auburn and SEC Title game leading up to the Championships he won.
I don't think I've ever seen a conference full of sore losers like the SEC after last bowl season. It's freaking comedy gold. At least they are consistent... they all take credit with wins and they all make excuses with losses.
Seriously though, winners compare themselves to their goals, losers compare themselves to others. Watching a "winner" like Saban resort to excuse after excuse shows me first hand his days are over. You can't run an elite anything making excuses at the top. If he is making excuses, just imagine what is going on in the locker room.
Hey Alabama, remember this?
If I could live to be one million years old and watch this four or five times a day, it STILL would NEVER get old!!
Good times, good times...
Didn't see any Bama players running out of bounds on that play...of course they may have been disoriented by the giant dust cloud they were eating.
Thank the Maker that I was born in Ohio, cradle of coaches, US Presidents, confederate-stomping Generals, the Uncomparable Joe Burrow, and home of The Ohio State University Buckeyes- 2014 UNDISPUTED National Champions!
Their SEC speed was so fast they completely overran the play and had to slow down and unfortunately they hit each other when trying to make the tackle. They simply can't adjust because they're so fast!!!
Or by the wide receiver blocking two of them into oblivion.
The only good thing about The Game is winning it - Urban Meyer
You can clearly see that they didn't try to tackle him because they got a 4th round draft grade there.
I just want to take this time to thank you all who sacrificed everyday for this team, I know most of you will not be going onto the NFL. However, I don't think you necessarily need a trophy to be a winner, there are alot of winners on this team. Anyways, to those guys not going I just hope you can look back to this time and remember you played next to and sacrificed for those guys as you watch them play on Sundays..... Now what I need you guys to do is help get some more of these recruits in here to take over your spots as we move on from this... *cough*.... and you...
“Megadeth >>> Metallica” - Alum 2019. I couldn’t agree more.
so good ... just so good. cannot ever see this enough.
Look at all those first round draft picks not trying.
They ran out of bounds because the Buckeyes were laying the wood on them. Defensively and offensively, Bama players was laying on the field going out injured, they got their asses handed to them.
What kind of motivation is he providing for his current players?! They have to be confused, or pissed, at statements like this. Or, they simply agree with their coach, unaware that he's just planted some really bad seeds in their brains. It's no wonder they played poorly in the Sugar Bowl for a second year in a row. They offered excuses after OK beat their asses, and look at the results they got the next year.
How would Urban handle this differently? Look at the end of 2013. Urban flat out said they were out-coached and that they didn't have their players ready to handle the task at hand, and that they flat out weren't good enough (coaches and players both). What kind of motivation did that provide? They went out, worked harder, and got better. And look at the results they got.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
This is why Alabama has been pretty much the same team for years while Urban has Ohio State on an upward trajectory.
Yeah I mean, who the heck wants to play for a national championship anyway. Risk your body all season long only to get scared and mail in a shitty performance when the stakes are highest. Makes total sense.
Hey Saban, POTUS has a message for you:
Except in this case, the "Bucks" kept going -
Until they stopped in at the White House.
I am glad to see the national media is seeing straight through this. PAWWWL even said it was an excuse.
As well as this:
Plaxico Burress called him out, too. http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/07/15/via-twitter-plaxico-...
If Landon Collins didn't want to get hurt, he should have got the hell out of Cardale's way.
I'm a streetwalkin' cheetah with a hubcap diamond star halo. I fought the law, I know it's over, and I wanna be sedated.
You might say, Cardale caused Collins to "Landon" his ass -
He tried...it's just his teammates couldn't bring him down either
Landon Collins was thinking about his Draft Grade when he got trucked, apparently.
I almost like this video as much as Zeke's run! Awesome!

When I was 6 I was thinking about this rivalry. This one is seared on your soul, It's ingrained through every part of your body. -Urban Meyer
Yeeeaaahhhhhh.... right Nick!
He seems to have a lot of excuses when his team loses!!! How about this one Nickie... you got out coached by Urban and you didn't have your boys prepared like the Buckeyes were!!! They were in better shape physically, mentally, and were more motivated than your team.
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
Somebody call a waaambulance!
OK - time for my rant on this.
Saban - you little bitchy cry-baby, why don't you grow a pair, man up and admit that your team got their asses beat by the better team? Are you telling me that your players didn't want the National Championship bad enough? I call bullshit on that.
Ohio State had seniors going pro after this season, yet I don't recall any of our seniors playing soft or not to get hurt. I guess you may need to brush up on your motivational tactics as a coach. Urban Meyer had no problem getting his men motivated.
My take on what happened to your team, watching the Sugar Bowl from my vantage point on my couch, was that Ohio State plain outhit, outhustled, and outran your team. By the third quarter, the Buckeyes were abusing some of your best players, Landon Collins comes mind.
Stop making excuses and be a MAN. Admit it when your team gets beat by a better team, and when you get out-coached.
So I think Saban must be the equivalent of Pork Chop Charlie(Weis) and Baby Ribs Brady...both good recruiters, but not good game day coaches?
Not having your team ready is a coach problem, is Saban telling me all he can do is recruit? 2 years in a row with excuses on why they lost in the bowl games. WTF.
Let the haters keep talking. Everything that is being said will just motivate the team more and piss them off to be GREAT. More bulletin board stuff for the locker room O-H!
The world is yours
What a cry baby b*tch
My counter-point would be that players will play harder because they want to improve upon the grade that they just received.
To add to your point, I could understand a kid being upset/depressed because of the rating for a day or so (if it was a bad rating) but then busting his butt in practice the next two weeks to prove to the NFL talent evaluators that you do belong.
And, if you graded out highly, the better you play the better you get drafted, which could be the difference of hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe millions. Each draft position you go up is more money, and each position you slide down means money you lose. But you are guaranteed to slide if you play like Saban is insinuating they did. To me, playing soft is high risk, low reward.
If you could bottle those salty tears, you could make millions. It would instantly become the most popular drink in the great state of Ohio.
I am sorry that I don't feel bad. Part of coaching is motivating your team to the best of their abilities and beyond sometimes.
"Making the Great State of Ohio Proud!" UFM
My fellow Buckeyes glory in what we have done. Lil Nicky is now on total defense. That seat he is on keeps getting hotter and hotter by the minute. The SEC is exposed, the playoff system has shown they are just as weak as we all thought they were. Saban is now fighting for what could be his life in Alabama if he has a couple more bad seasons. Its good to be a Buckeye. We have a coach that doesn't make excuses for poor play, or bad decisions by the staff. While other teams make excuses, we keep winning. I will enjoy this season more that any other season in my memory. Not just for the potential of what my favorite home state team can accomplish, but by watching the "Best Conference in America" crumble around my feet, as I stand on the ash heap in northern Georgia, and sound a MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! While wearing a 2015 National Championship tee.
(Takes a bow)
Living in SEC country... and Loving it!!!!
What a tremendous example of sportsmanship he's setting for his team. Unbelievable -
It seems Saban may have lost the edge. Getting beat the way they did by a more physical team seems to have shaken him to the core. The OBC is crazy and says some nutty things. But his takes on Alabama and Saban are spot on. With the talent they have brought in, they should never lose a game-that's a clear shot at coaching and player development.
My players played to not get hurt (even though there were OSU players with NFL Draft grades who seemed to play hard).
We didn't respect Cardale (even though everyone saw him tear apart the #2 ranked total defense).
Playing Auburn and Missouri leading into a playoff is hard (even though Missouri lost to INDIANA and Auburn lost to the same Wisconsin team OSU waxed 59-0).
The sun was in my eyes. My shoes were untied. I wasn't ready. Just like Miami fans with the excuses. Blame the refs, while you're at it.
I think Saban really has lost his edge. Here, I thought that was just Skip Bayless trying to say "Alabama lost it" more than "OSU won it". But if Saban is making these kinds of excuses, maybe he has really lost it.
Class of 2010.
AND our players forgot to eat their Wheaties ...
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Running out of bounds? No, no, no Mr Saban, you have it all wrong. You didn't lose because your offensive players ran out of bounds. You lost because your defensive players were getting ran over by Zeke and Cardale. Top NFL draft pick at the Safety position gets trucked numerous times by OSU QB and RB. Leading Bama Tackler and LB Ragland gets sent to the locker room bleeding from the nose after collision with Zeke. Nice try Nicky but we all watched the game.
Reminds me of a guy one time who told me after our tennis match the only reason I won was because it was a windy day. Thought that was humorous as you change sides every odd game I and do recall having to deal with the wind myself.
Gee. I thought it was Zeke's exposed, glistening abs that blinded his would be tacklers that caused all Saban's failures. Turns out his players only lacked courage. That IS a little more believable.
The unfair crop top ... which the NCAA has now rectified.
"The only easy day was yesterday" - US Navy SEALS
Nicky: remind your guys that they have to practice today, MKAY?
Life is full of choices. Make good ones.
omg...he's worse than the fans.
Their running back only used one arm ... that threw our entire defense off, the NCAA should ban that.
You've got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
So it was tough getting through the SEC title game? You mean beating the team that was a middling Big 12 team a few years ago (remember, if so and so joined the SEC, they would go 4-8)? The one that lost to Indiana on their home turf? While you had that "tough" game, we had to beat a Wisconsin team, that well, beat your rival in a bowl game.
I thought the reason they lost was because they didn't take Cardale seriously?
Look, the SEC had a nice run. But as was pointed out time and again, things are cyclical in CFB. Win with grace, lose with grace. I have wondered if the best of Saban was behind him (losses in big games, crying about the rules, hiring Kiffin). Now that I hear these excuses, it cements this in my head even more. Warms my innards to know that it was Ohio State that broke the SEC. It's killing him (and his disciples). Alabama used to be the best on the field. Now, they are the best at making excuses.
So what Saban is saying is he can't do his job.
Ohio State: better preparation, better coaches, better talent, better people, better team.
Deal with it!
also better ingredients and better pizza.
Replace "Kevin" with Saban.
Tom Brady lost to John Cooper. Never forget.
Hey Saban, Urban is just getting started..he is coming for you, don't use up all your excuses up at once..
Lawtide and BigHoss, what say you???
Ha. Just ha.
Charlie don’t surf.
It's not an excuse? Oh really?
It's funny how Saban didn't complain about players getting their draft grades prior to the bowl game when Alabama was winning those 3 national titles in 4 years. Now that they have failed for the 2nd year in a row to win a title, he wants to make this claim about draft grades. And again, it's as if OSU didn't have to deal with the same thing. Oh wait, they did. They still played their hearts out. That's on YOU, Saban, to get your kids to focus and play hard. Urban did so that night, and then did it AGAIN on January 12th against Oregon. I haven't heard Helfrich whine about anything like that.
Even if Saban's comments were to have some validity to them, with the timing that these comments were made, it still comes off as nothing more than an excuse.
Well, this is where the subtly comes in--OSU really didn't have that many kids that graded out that high last year(read: this was a very young team). Alabama simply had more of those guys this year. As you pointed out, this didn't stop Alabama from winning titles other years where kids graded out before the game.
Whatever. He is saying his kids didn't have heart, he couldn't motivate them, or both.
Sounds like a you problem to me.
Alabama had 1 first rounder and 2 guys at the top of the 2nd round. OSU had a guy at the top of the 2nd round. Of the 3 guys who went high, Cooper played hard and had 2 TDs, Collins played hard as he got hurt and came back in again to gut it out. Only Yeldon could make this excuse and he was injured going into the game anyway
He has always been a cry baby and a liar. I still remember when he said he wasn't leaving Miami for Bama. This is just more of the same from him. Hopefully the recruits start to see through this as well.
I'm just grateful that the Buckeyes had such an easy road and did not have to face any adversity on their way to the B1G, Sugar Bowl and National Championship games.
Oh, wait. Never mind.
Saban doing a bit of backtracking now. Finebaum point blank asked him was it an excuse. He said no, it was his fault the weren't ready.
So we didn't actually play the SECC - South East Conference Champions - in the NCG? But instead played the SECC - Saban's Emotionless Chumpass Cowards - instead? EVEN BETTER!
Does lil' Nicky even think about this shit before he says it? Nothing like calling your team a bunch of selfish cowards after getting their ass handed to them by a better team!
Wonder how not playing to get hurt worked out for Landon Collins? Dude got trucked by tOSU freight train and got hurt anyway!
The SEC should stand for Sorry Excuse-making Chumps! Or would that be the SEmC?
Routing for the badgers to show up , week one , to shut this narrative up.... hope buckeyes left some magic in Arlington.
Oh, I see....we played the SECC - Saban's Emotionless Chumpass Cowards - instead of the SECC - South East Conference Champions!
I'm sure Lil' Nicky will be crying for a raise since his $7 Million per year salary and newly paid-off multi-million dollar home was not incentive enough for him to bust out his special "motivating-players-to-play-with-heart-in-playoff-game" powers! That'll probably cost Bammers $10 Million per year, 5 Ferrari's, 2 Beach Homes, and a Royal Caribbean-sized cruise ship yacht in order to get that special treatment! And those dumbasses are probably renegotiating that contract as we speak!
"Nick Saban says playing Auburn and SEC title game is a challenge leading into a playoff."
Almost as challenging as playing a Wisconson team that beat Auburn. We didn't have too much trouble with that ...
A head coach has to be an excellent motivator of young men. If Saban can't motivate his kids to play hard due to a draft report he is definitely losing it. UFM would have used the draft status report to his advantage in some way. BS excuse.
As Sam Elliot would say, Nick Saban is a ... ... ...
15-1 is SWEET!
Ditto. I agree with what everyone else said.
"played not to get hurt, ran out of bounds" was said by Saben.........
Sounds like bad coaching to me.
I would think finding out their draft grades before the playoff would have motivated them, especially when only one guy was expected to be drafted early in the first round. And that guy Cooper didn't play bad, so I don't get that excuse.
maybe he was talking about Landon Collins who's draft stock dropped after Zeke and Dale made him look silly.
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
Not sure how I got signed out, but I signed right the hell back in just so I could UV this.
Who is this Rorschach guy and why does he paint so many pictures of my parents fighting?
Forgive me for not reading the rest of the comments, but didn't Robert E. Lee say the same thing after the Civil War?
Man, those grapes are sour in Tuscaloosa.
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
Ok, so what were his excuses for getting pooped on by Oklahoma the year before?
i really really want Wiskey to whoop 'em. Please beat BAMA.
We're allowed to root for Wisconsin now that Bert's gone, right? Somebody get DJ or Ramzy on the hotline.
I'm okay with it. Bert went and so did Wiscy as second most hated team in the B1G. Kinda nice really. It was cutting into my despising of TTUN.
This is where BTN is dropping the ball. When it's Alabama media day you play games of Alabama losing to Ohio State, the Bowl loss to Michigan in OT, or even better when they lost to Minnesota in the music city bowl in 2004.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Wow, 237 comments!!! Nothing like a whining Saban to bring out the Buckeye ire! Lol. When I heard him say it this morning, I knew there were going to be a few (hundred) opinions here!!
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Landon Collins played not to get hurt further after getting trucked by Cardale. Henry ran like a truck but they're OC is so smart he wouldn't give him the ball anymore. Fact is they got beat by a team playing their 3rd string QB
Go Bucks and michigan STILL SUCKS!
I actually laughed out loud when I read his comments. His ass is on the hot seat and he's grasping for excuses like a drowning man for air.
Hurry, someone call the waaaambulance for Nicky so they can tend to the bum hurt. Roll Tears Roll!
Jameis Winston helped Saban prepare for this presser.
Jameis Winston: “Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”
Haha. That's hilarious. Everyone who watched that game and isn't horribly, horribly partisan in favor Alabama is aware that Nick's comments don't align with reality. Sorry not sorry, Nick.
Wonder why saban did not complain in 2011 and 2012 when the draft advisory board announced in December? What a TOOL.
One thing that ABSOLUTELY should be pushed back is the date that underclassmen must declare for the draft. More than a week was added to the season, with the 4 team playoffs, but that date was not pushed back. If I remember correctly that left less than a week to make your decision.
I agree that the timeline should be reviewed. But I don't remember Saban bitching about it when they were winning titles. Every school has to deal with this, not just his holier than thou Tide. This comment, and his subsequent backtracking, make him look like a bitch! Much like saying the hurry up offenses create more injuries, as opposed to the fact that his oversized defensive players (read: Trey Depriest and friends) can't keep up with quicker offenses. Sabanism at it's best, right here!
"Vision without execution is just hallucination."
J.K. Simmons - a true buckeye fan - will always get the UV from me...
Per USA Today:
"Here's what happened. Ohio State happened. Urban Meyer happened. Cardale Jones happened. And the sooner Saban accepts that, the better chance Alabama has of returning to college football dominance."
Yep, pretty much sums it up.
And Buckeye Nation came back stronger than ever - Don't screw with the Scarlet and Gray.
That article just calls him out. Funny how much a few wins changes that perception issue we were all up in arms about this time last year.
Good point - I was kinda gripping 366 days ago - Nervous and optimistic anxiety
And now we're all like "heavy is the head that wears the crown"...
Maybe in January that a__hole will get a chance to show the world how much better our, oops I meant his team is THIS year! Oh, and, doesn't he get paid to prepare his players?
NICK SABAN AND THE SEC CONFERENCE ARE STRAIGHT UP SORE LOSERS!!!!
I guess NFL grades didn't bother the Bama players when they were up 21-6......I hope we get a shot at them again in the playoffs, this is just bulletin board material. Whether it's this year, next year, or the next decade you can guarantee Urban is going to throw those comments in the Buckeyes face when they play again. I believe Billy Jack, the star of the Billy Jack movies in the 70s and early 80s would've summed it up something like this for Nick: We are going to hand the ball to #15 and run left and there's not a damn thing you can do about it!!!!
Haters gunna Hate & Vagina's gunna vagine!
Honestly what makes me so mad is yeah boo hoo the draft grades come out the 15th and thats all they pay attention to. Oh really Saban?!?! Mel Kipper and Todd Mcshay have most of these draft grades set by the middle of the summer prior to the season and they talk about them non-stop it goes on all year long so this is propbably his worst excuse yet. Do you smell what Saban is cooking? yeah it's bullshit
