He knows if he wants to play at OSU he may have to commit earlier than planned. Corley, Mack and others all may want a seat but may not be enough room
Mitchell and Mack would fit perfectly in this class.
Interesting situation for Ohio State as I know that Corley and Mack are higher on the board. If Mitchell wants in right now I don't know if they would accept his commitment or wait for Corley.
Trust in UFM
Would actually love to have him at safety.
My question is whether he has a committable offer at this stage, as Birm has indicated that Mack and Corley are the top 2, and we may only take 2. If that's the case, an early decision may not be good for us.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I'd be surprised if it were a non committable offer.... Corley is trending to the Spartans.
This, and the above posts, are all right on target. With other positions, this could be a case of us slow-playing a guy to buy time for someone else (Corley) higher up on our board. In the case of Michell, though, his talent and measurables would seem just too high to turn away; dude is the 50th ranked player in the class, per Rivals, and is already D1 size.
I think we snag Mitchell and Meyer goes after Craig-Myers hard, knowing that he's a luxury rather than a necessity.
Get Mack, Mitchell, Nate Craig- Meyers, and bosa. I would be happy.

And Gary. And flip Eichenberg. And...

Just think if Rutgers were able to keep the top kids in state. All it would take for them is one class like the 2016 class and it would instantly make them a competitive program that could challenge for conference and national titles in a few years. I hope he comes to OSU, but should he go elsewhere, I do hope its Rutgers. That program is an anomaly in how it struggles yet is surrounded by elite HS talent in bunches every year.
You are so right about that. They absolutely must take the money they are now reaping from the B1G and invest in new facilities and upgrades to existing facilities. Maybe they will just be like Illinois and Indiana and sit on it or waste it all on moron coaches but if they want the talent to stay home it's all about investing those B1G Benjamins.
Rutgers has a positive arch in terms of their football program. They definitely have challenges but they have great players in the state and driving around NJ you will see tons of red "R"s on cars. Rutgers could become something pretty special.
I have never been to the campus, but i've heard it's not exactly "bucolic".
Like LSU, OSU and UMD, Rutgers is the only major school in a state with some talent. If they focus on football they could be good as could UMD. UMD is investing heavily in infrastructure, if Rutgers does the same the B1G will be better off. The only loser would be PSU who has historically pulled all of the top flight MD, NJ, VA and DE talent.
Not quite sure he's a take yet though.
Mack is all but in, and then we probably only have one spot for a WR, two if someone like Craig-Myers wants in on signing day. We're right there in it for Corley and Victor and I think those are our top two targets after Mack.
We can be very selective here.
I believe it has been reported that the staff will take two pure wide receivers this year, but I think that number could expand to three if a guy like Myers wanted in. Mack is number one on the list and I believe Corley is two, but I'm not sure Mitchell is so far behind in the running that you don't take him if he wants in. And also keep in mind, the dude is a freak and very well could play safety if some of our DB recruiting falls through. I think you take him and Mack, and then go to work on Myers until signing day.
Edit: sorry, I read your post as you saying there was only one spot and it was for Mack, not one spot AND Mack... my bad.
I think everybody here is underestimating Mitchell. He would be the 3rd highest composite ranked player in our class at this point.
I think you're overestimating the relevance of the composite ranking in Urban's order of preference.
While I agree with your assessment there are plenty of top flight teams who have offered. OSU, PSU, UM, ND, FSU, Ole Miss, MSU etc.
For the record, I'm not suggesting that he isn't worthy of a (committable) offer. Just like pretty much everyone else on here, I'm not a talent evaluator, so I default to the rankings and offers as much as anyone else, and you have to be impressed with Mitchell's rank and offer list. But Birm has said that he's not in the top-priority group to the staff (yet), which is all that matters when we're evaluating the likelihood that he winds up a Buckeye.
I see this like the Michael Jordan situation. If Eichenberg had come on board, the likelihood that the staff takes Jordan goes way down, maybe to zero, because of numbers. But once Eichenberg came off the board, Jordan's offer because commitable and the staff made him a top priority, resulting in a commitment.
With the WRs, I think the staff is waiting on Mack and Corley before moving to the "second tier" guys like Mitchell. We can debate whether Mitchell should be second tier, but my observation is only that he is second tier to the staff, according to Birm. Mack seems very likely, so I'll be interested in seeing where the staff turns up the heat if Corley moves in another direction. For all I know, Mitchell may be that guy, but Birm has made it pretty clear he isn't in that first group right now, and that has nothing to do with rankings or offer lists.
I don't think I am overestimating anything MinnBuck for 3 reasons. Mitchell was offered quite a while ago even before some of the guys being mentioned here, second because he doesn't necessarily have to play WR the kid can play safety and third look at the list of NJ guys and their subsequent success when they come to Ohio State. Personally I like Corley and I like the Davis kid that we just offered heck I even liked Justin Layne but all I'm saying is that I would be shocked if Mitchell called the coaches up and said he wanted in that they wouldn't take him. Previous comments here are saying that we would tell him no because we want Myers or Corley and I'm just not buying it.
There is little doubt that osu would take his commitment if he wanted in.
I hear you, Tra, and if the staff is recruiting him as an athlete who could play multiple positions, such as Safety, I agree that the odds that his offer currently is "commitable" go up considerably. Birm has always discussed him in the context of other WRs, which is why I have concluded that that's where the staff sees him.
He is a composite top 100 player. I think Urban can work with that

That's my feeling on a lot of these guys right now. I'm no expert in recruiting, but it's no secret that #s are getting tight. I think that's why you saw Jordan commit yesterday, and why Mitchell may be thinking the same thing. Outside of a few signing day decisions, this class may be filled a lot sooner than we think.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Wonder if Mitchell has a relationship with Gary. If so, I would take his commitment is a heartbeat and would probably take it even if he didn't. Kid looks like the real deal.
I agree with the others in this thread that say Mitchell + Mack = awesome
ESPECIALLY if they are both committing soon. Get on the bus boys. Very few spots left.
He's listed as a 4.44. What really impresses me the most about him is his physicality. He breaks arm tackles and throws a great stiff arm. I can see him really developing into the kind of receiver that jumps up and fights a corner for the ball. If he wants to be in this class I am glad to have him.
Perfect fit for this offense, great speed and burst.
If we don't take him will that reduce the number of 'we oversigned we are SEC scum' threads next February?
I feel like this one goes the opposite way of tOSU by design. I think the staff is focusing more on the other two WRs as their primaries, however, you can never discount the allure of playing for the defending champs. Will be interesting.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Just saw a tasty CB come in for tOSU.
"if irony were made of strawberries, we' d all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now."
Waiting for a Birm comment.
Just watched Mitchell, Mack, and Corley tape. All 3 look legit. So hard to compare them with one another. Don't see how you say no to one of them if one wants in.
Had a odd feeling he was leaning towards UM. But the more Jersey guys the better.

He says he is down to 2 schools. It's clearly 2 of osu, Rutgers, or mich. so if the other is Rutgers or mich, what's the hurry to commit?
pretty easy to see where this is headed IMO.
He is watching the numbers, Woodshed. I agree with your earlier post; if he wants in, he's in.
I guess it's pretty clear now! Seems odd that tOSU is still in the running despite the fact that Birm has repeatedly stated Mitchell will not be part of this class.
To be perfectly clear, I have NO favorite. My decision has came down to Michigan and Ohio State. #nofavorite pic.twitter.com/0Vb1VGUKLL

"The Edge is where average stops and elite begins"
Rutgers and TTUN insiders picked OSU for Mitchell today on 247.
Because its not worth starting another thread, a CB was just put across for Mitchell to tOSU. The interesting part is that the CB was from a Rutgers guy.
The offseason is the longest season.
Thank you for not starting another thread! +1
Latest article on Ahmir. I like our chances with him. Some say he is treading up north with a lot of CB going away from us.
From what I have read he does not have a committable offer from OSU at this time. Plan B guy behind other WR prospects. I believe he left FNL without being pushed to commit.
Article supports as much, stating that OSU is still evaluating Mitchell and other War options, while Mitchell is a priority for UM.
With that said, he clearly like OsU a lot, enough to hold-off on committing to UM despite some attraction there and despite being much more of a priority for UM then for OSU.
Wow this is a resurrected post.... I will be VERY surprised if he doesn't choose that place up north with the weird helmets. If he should choose us I would be happy but I think the staff is focused on a couple of guys they rate ahead of him.
EDIT: Did not realize this thread was necroed from so long ago.
Word is he will go to TSUN.No room at the inn.
We have room now....dont want this kid going to ttun
It says 95% to um. I take it they dont update those often?
And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!
Walker just visited OSU and tweeted @ Ahmir Mitchell to get his number do you think Mitchell now has a committable offer and is trying to have Kareem help recruit him? I know that's a lot to take from a simple tweet but ya
