Grinding. Ugh uh
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”
When I read "The Grind" and see the guys from Sunny dancing I can't help but think of MTV's The Grind that aired in the mid '90s. Below is a clip of bad music combined with bad dancing.
Warning: The video is only 3:17, but watch at your own risk. It will hurt your eyes and ears.
My god Remy that is...... just wow. Thank you for that trip down memory lane.
Um yeah I watched that. Back in the day too. That music reminds me of late night food court runs and waking up hungover in a strange house.

That championship run was quite possibly the greatest stretch of Buckeye football I've witnessed in my 31 years on this earth. This mentality of the "Grind", is exactly why OSU will have one hell of a shot at repeating.
The Grind baby. Hell yeah. Go Bucks!

Urban, the coaching staff and a certain drill instructor who can turn breathing into a competition seems to be the perfect defense against the big C word

How do you compete in breathing? Most breaths per second? Fewest breaths per second? Largest lung capacity? Best circular breathing?

This outside influence Urban talks about is worrisome. Family, friends...all well meaning, but dangerous distractions. Can't wait til spring practice begins when the staff can get more control of things. Even worse are all the wannabes that come crawling out from side streets and hometowns....dangerous.
Being a fan, I sure know 1 thing though.
I'm glad the discussion of complacency is an issue at all, because it means this team was UNDISPUTED and on top of the mountain!

If Josh Perry is any indication of the leadership on this team, complacency won't be much of an issue - plus, there's always Coach Mick's doghouse (grind house?) if guys get too big for their britches (as my Mom used to say).
I agree...and so does this gentleman.
Sitting here watching the sugar bowl....damn, what a season we had. (getting chills all over again)
Ofcourse McGrind is all about the grind.

The two things that will sink OSU's chances for a repeat trip to the playoffs are complacency causing 1 or 2 of the units to break down. In 2013 we saw what happened when the secondary and LBs broke down. In 2014 the OL broke down vs. VT. This fall the nobody can afford to regress. One unit goes the whole ship sinks. Keeping that from happening is probably the most difficult thing coaches have to deal with in practice.
Nice article, Patrick. This is my biggest concern, but as usual, master motivator Meyer is on it. Good thing is, right out of the chute, we have plenty of payback motivation with VT. I want it ugly, in their house.
Good point about VT, Knarcisi. As far as guarding against complacency is concerned, I doubt there could have been a better opening day opponent -
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement. - Will Rogers
Agree 100%. We couldn't be any luckier about our opening game, and the team has the entire off-season through fall camp to focus on blasting Va Tech. That loss, which ultimately helped power us to the NC championship, will slingshot us into the 2015 season, too. The ugly loss that turned out to be the gift that keeps on giving, in a positive way!
I'm usually not that way, but yeah, it is time for me to admit the same thing. I want 100 points on the board for OSU.

Great thinking! Though I think Lombardi had to die before it got named for him, so we don't actually want the NC trophy named for a LONNGGG time yet!
I like this place better.
Whenever I hear the word grind/grinding It makes me think of dry humping. I wish they would have chosen a different mantra.
Damn it feels good to be a Buckeye
From "The Chase" to "The Chased" We will have a huge target on our back & get everbodys best shot each week. This is where the mental aspect comes in, certainly not the talent level. This is just another area where UFM does is better than anyone else in the country. Go Bucks
We are Ohio State. We have a perennial target on our back. We ALWAYS get everyone's best shot. Always have, always will.
Right now we're in the celebration phase.
Yeah,....Im still there!

I love the Buckeye theme V-Rod in the picture too!!!!!
Why are some of them pointing at Fickel's junk?
The beauty of it, as MAVBuck mentioned above, is we fans get keep on with the celebration phase. Thank you Buckeyes! Keep on grinding!
We train to fight and we fight to win.
I've been hearing about how difficult it is to repeat a lot - and I'm sure that's true for a variety of reasons. It has certainly happened seldomly enough in the past. The scarcity of repeats can certainly be attributed to complacency in many instances - but attrition must have been a big factor, too - if not the biggest.
I've been wondering how often a team as young as our 2015 Buckeyes have been defending national champions. Looking at college football through the prism of Ohio State as I do, the '69 team comes immediately to mind - but I'm hard pressed to think of another national championship team that's had as much returning. Where's Remy when you need him?
At several positions where we lost seniors, there's experienced talent taking over. Last season, Nick Vannett probably had more total playing time at tight end than Jeff Heuerman. Kwon saw the field a great deal at middle linebacker. Both Michael Thomas and Corey Smith were significantly involved in the wide receiver rotation. And if Tommy Schutt can stay healthy and play up to anything approaching his potential, we should be fine at defensive tackle.
With spring practice starting up in a few days, that really only leaves a few positions in which we'll be breaking in truly raw replacements. So this article was spot on - complacency may indeed be our greatest concern -
“But admit there was no splendor in all the bright array
Like the glory of the going when Chic Harley got away.” -James Thurber
"Anything easy ain't worth a damn!" -Woody Hayes
While its great to have the 3 QBs, I do get a little concerned if this can bring a some dissention to the team as players line up with their buddies and don't see their buddy start. You see this at times in the pros. One clear strength this past year was the family atmospere and all-for-one attitude. If UM can control this one issue, there is no stopping the Bucks in 15.
I can tell you for sure that Michigan's coaching staff will be telling the history lesson about how OSU's defending National Champs from 1968 were upset at Ann Arbor in 1969.
I hope that OSU's coaching staff are reminding the Buckeyes about that history lesson as well.
Defense of a Title is a Grind. Most teams don't get it done.
Let's do it.
I have no idea what to expect this year!!!!! I think overall we should be better this year than we were last year but that is saying a lot!!!!!! I can not wait to see the spring game!!!!!!!!
The day after we won the NC I checked this coming season's schedule and could not believe our luck. Nothing between now and a rematch with VT at Blacksburg. I thought for sure a late addition of some MAC school would get thrown in there and potentially distract the team from giving the Hokies the full monty of retribution that they deserve. I almost feel sorry for VT. They have never seen the freight train of destruction they are about to get run over by, in front of their own people none the less.
The Buckeye intensity and focus will be something to behold. I am guessing one of the most watched season opening games in college football history.
Its good to be the king
