Didn't he recruit Zeke, Samuel and Weber? AND Kareem Walker?
Meyer has upgraded his staff with Beck and Alford. The Dynasty has arrived.
But we landed all of those guys...
Because tOSU > ND always, and more recently we WIN the NCG when they get there, they get crushed.
ND really lost their edge with all big schools being nationally televised. While they are always on NBC, there were very few games that one couldn't watch of Ohio State's either nationally or on the computer.
What if you don't hear YOLO anymore because everyone who use to say it died?
That's a great point. The Illinois game was the only one not shown nationally last year.
I'm in Texas , and I watched every OSU game this season... I have U-verse with BTN...
What's your monthly bill look like w U-verse? What package do you have? Because I am perilously close to going ISIS on Time Warner (figuratively, that is.)
I switched to Uverse 18 months ago and I LOVE it. A bit more expensive, but well worth it. I will NEVER go back to Time Warner.
Barney Fife lives, and he lives among us.
Went ISIS on Time Warner last April Signed up with Uverse when college football season came around. Got a 1 year deal with them for their best package for $120/mo (half my previous TW bill). I know I'll have to renegotiate this October, but totally worth it. And their mobile app is stellar. Never going back.
$92 for U-Verse U300 just basic package, but premium channels are always on as teasers, and I also have voice and data on top of it. Dumping ATT voice for Magic Jack this month.
The app is great... so when I had to go to my daughters school play the night the Bucks were in East Lansing, my wife did the driving while I enjoyed the game on the way home. We arrived home as the second quarter was beginning and as we all know that game just kept getting better and better...
So your saying that today's recruits can't remember all the way back to 1988?
It's probably not a strong selling point for ND to use the "we won the championship 27 years ago" to today's players.
Also, while ND is proud of the fact that they have more academically rigorous standards and should feel good about that, the way that they often talk that up rings like a slap in the face to a lot of recruits every year. It seems like every season, at some point, someone at ND points to how their (slightly) elevated acceptance standards create a slight disadvantage for them. While they may not mean it this way, I think what a lot of recruits, and current players at other programs hear in that message is "you're not here at ND because you're not good enough and smart enough to play for us." I really think they've over-played that whole "we're a cut above everyone else" card, and it's trending very much against them.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Apparently TTUN has been playing that card too.
...and Michigan still sucks.
Ahh yesss UFM>Kelly
2002, Desert Heat & a Crystal Football....like it was yesterday. *12 years later* -> UNDISPUTED!
Lets wait at least a season before we call these hires upgrades over assistant coaches that just weeks ago led us to a National Championship. I have been a big fan of all of Urban Meyer's staff decisions so far except for Everett Withers. These new hires have a lot of promise though and if Urban believes in them it should be good enough for everybody else.
"I may not be able to outsmart too many people, but I can outwork 'em." ~Woody Hayes
I don't think you can upgrade over the top assistant coach in college football (Herman). I definitely would call Beck a slight downgrade, still happy he is here but I'd of kept Herman for as long as he wanted to stay.
Tough to argue with what Drayton has done with Hyde and Elliot. Anyone who watched Training Days or followed the program closely knows how affable but intense Drayton was. I'm sure there are "upgrades" out there and Alford could very well be one, too early to make that call.
I will say, I am pleased with both hires.
But can Alford get trucked by El Guapo as smoothly as Drayton did?
One day I will valiantly become a political prisoner of 11W jail.
Dang! No wonder he left…Bears' RBs don't run over him like that!
"Indecision may (or may not) be my downfall."
It's prolly a good thing he didn't go to the 49ers instead?
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
Hyde would be all like "hey coach...
"Conversely, Urban Meyer and his players are an unstoppable army of football automatons that feel no emotion and win in any and every setting."
and Urban, saying, under his smile, Whoa!
Thanks so much to Cinserious
I love these little snippets of OSU reality…
Uber cool glimpse of OSU edition of Hard Knocks...
Serious work, but still lots of fun and good times for all!!! Well , maybe not for Stan this go around!!!
Love Urban's smile at the end.
edit: sorry Black Coffee, should have read down a bit first.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
I can't stop watching this.... Awesome!
Damn! UFM's reaction is priceless.
I'm not sure we can say that Beck is a definate downgrade. He did field some potent offenses at Nebraska with only 1 good player.... Imagine if he were to have 11 great starters and a bench full of guys that could have started at his old school. He was hired to run Urban's offense, not his own. Think of him like a chief mechanic of Meyer's TD machine.
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
that sounds unfair judging beck before he even coaches a practice. be patient I like how he puts together a staff. I think we'll repeat playing 3 QB's through out the year.i think we have yet to see the ceiling with this staff. fickle, ash, wariner, hinton, Johnson, beck and now a top recruiting ND assistant with relationships in the big catholic schools is the cherry on the top I think! this could a great staff. great times to be a buckeye. did I mention we are the first undisputed national champions in the history of college football? O H bitches
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
This is a fair assessment. The one thing that one has to keep in mind is that Herman's resume coming in was fine, but not overwhelming. Saying that Beck is a downgrade, when we haven't see what he can do with Urban, OSU, etc. is unfair and would be hard to judge until 3 years down the road.
I agree that saying either one is an upgrade isn't the case right now, but I would also argue that saying they are a downgrade falls into the same boat.
So do you realize that you said absolutely nothing?
You're right how could I forget my statement about prematurely calling him a downgrade is the same as calling him an upgrade without looking at results. Thank you your comment helped me out!
Withers was the biggest force behind landing Vonn Bell. The guy was a hit with me just for that.
Can't really compare Beck and Herman as Warinner is taking over play calling duties. We should be comparing the staff as a whole vs. staff as a whole last year.
So long as everyone buys into the vision that Urban sets out I trust the staff will develop just fine. Agree that upgrades are hard to come by but most of us didn't know a lot about Herman when Urban brought him in. I think this may also be where all the leadership/team culture building stuff really comes into play. Should be a fun spring to see how the 15' team develops.
When I was 6 I was thinking about this rivalry. This one is seared on your soul, It's ingrained through every part of your body. -Urban Meyer
Heard he was close to Walker...probably makes for an easy decision. Look at that stable and the slobs up front.
Should make it that much smoother to keep Kareem Walker in the fold for '16 then!
I'm going to reserve judgement on saying Ohio State "upgraded" by landing Tim Beck after Herman left. Herman was an elite OC in every sense of the word. However, Urban landing Larry Johnson to replace Vrabel, and Chris Ash to replace Everett Withers is amazing to say the least. Defininetly upgrades. Recruiting wise, I do believe (from everything I've read) that Alford would be an upgrade over Drayton.
2x account suspension survivor
Why is Herman/Beck being debated in a RB coach Alford article?
Upgraded over Tom Herman (most prolific offenses in OSU history) and Drayton (Meyer's 1st 2 1000 yard backs)??
Pull back the reigns a bit. They seem to be very good hires, but upgrade can't be said (yet)
Time will tell... There is a nice stable of horses for him to work with, and an amazing group of OL going forward. Should be fun to watch. I expect nothing less than the same, and his recruiting resume speaks for itself. Should be business as usual with a more National reach in recruiting than Drayton had... as well hurts ND who has taken a few Buckeyes from the nest over the years... And Finally Meyer makes everyone better... if he is good now, Meyer can make him great... Just ask Herman.
Absolutely do not think you can call Beck an upgrade over Herman considering Beck's shaky history developing QBs.
I agree but at this point we can't say he is a down grade either. the train is rolling we just need someone to keep ridin' that train.
I'm sorry Mr. Weber, we no longer have the Drayton model, but the new Alford model is due in the showroom any day now.
I love the enthusiasm but there is no upgrade from Hermon...at least not as an asst coach.
Now...put down the scarlet koolade silver..... If anyone of you think Beck will be a upgrade over Herman.. You're kidding yourselves..
Sounds like a great hire from a recruiting standpoint!

"@davebiddle: So, this makes 3 coaches that Urban Meyer has "flipped" from Notre Dame to Ohio State in the last 3+ years (Ed Warinner, Tim Hinton)."
Now that we are on the third guy from ND are they officially our farm system for assistant coaches?
ND is a new OSU pipeline ;)

I wonder if Brian Kelly tells his assistants to get them hyped about the job, something along the lines of "if you do really well here, you may be the next assistant coach for Urban!"
Such a tough break to see for ol' Coach Kelly. Such a good guy, and so, so easy to root for. Seriously, why do bad things happen to the best people? I don't get it. I love Ohio State, but I am crying for Coach Kelly, who is very cool and very good.
Hey guys, we've found the only member of the Brian Kelly fan club ... and he was right under our noses the whole time.

Damn I bet Brian Kelly is pissed. Love the message this sends to recruits: Ohio State is on another level than ND. Taking the same job at Ohio State is a promotion. Same can be said about penn state (Larry Johnson).
I think he's technically taking a lower job. He was RB and WR coach at ND, as well as head of recruiting. I think he's only taking one of those responsibilities at OSU (RB), though nothing official has been announced.
just proves how much greener the grass is in Columbus.
I stand happily corrected
Per LGHL, he will also have the title of "Assistant Head Coach" along with RB Coach. So I would have to disagree with the "taking of a lower job" here at OSU. Excellent hire by Meyer and Alford already has previous relationships with Weber and Walker.
Maybe this could quiet some of the bitching over Drayton leaving?
What? Drayton left?
I wondered if that would be the case.
i hadn't seen any of those reports. I'm just glad we got him!!
Welcome to #BuckeyeNation my Brother Coach Tony Alford! #GoBucks! embrace #TheGrind!
— Ambassador Elliott (@stacy_elliott) February 7, 2015
What are the chances Urban offers Stacy Elliot some sort of recruiting position once Zeke is gone? Maybe he can now in light of what TTUN is doing with hiring recruits moms, but I thought they would have to wait until Zeke is gone. It really seems like Mr. Elliot is all Buckeye now, and has grow extremely close with Urban. I would think having him as a person of contact for recruits parents would be huge.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
They should hire Apple's mom too. She seems like a great person, and loves Ohio State.
It would be kind of nice to start an OSU Football Parent Alumni Organization to help with questions parents have and improve on things that coaches and players fail to notice as well as keeping a nice networking opportunity for former players looking for employment connections post playing career.
I am sure this exists.
Perfect hire, Urban's ability to go out and grab whatever coach he wants is insane!
Because I couldn't go for 3!

Also one of the greatest runs. It should be a requirement for all OSU running backs to go back and watch film of Eddie George's senior year runs, especially the ones who lose their balance by trying too hard and impatiently run into the backs of there blockers.
I think Zeke must of already watched that film, because those last 3 games I saw an awful lot of the smoothness and patience of Eddie George.

Not to mention the crop top.

Just made this my desktop background for the week....replacing Teflon wizard and LeBron after the championship game(for now anyway).
Why did everyone have such oversized shoulder pads in the (early) 90's?
The funny thing about this photo is Eddie isn't running towards the end zone he is actually chasing the ND defensive backs that were running away in fear.
Defending the boarder
Awesome. 8 ND players, 1 (and 2 1/3rd) OSU.
I really like Notre Dame being our coaching farm team. Brian Kelly can stay there though.
Pretty soon Vegas will be posting odds on which ND assistant ends up at OSU next.
Hopefully they ran all this by Cass Tech for approval.
They didn't and Cass Techs coach will be back on the radio expressing his disapproval of OSU.
If Cass Tech's coach has a bias to the detriment of his players having unrestricted recruitment opportunity the administrators of that school should step in and straighten him out.
Hey you would be mad to if Urban cost you a new cozy job with Jimmy Khaki
personally i figure his thought was if he pissed and moaned enough Meyer would hire him
Wilcher clearly thinks he runs the entire the state. A man like that has no administrators.
He's fine with out of state recruitment as long as HE gets his measure of respect.
What a diva.
I like when my upvote counts as 8. It goes from 31 to 39! I must be special. Or i take way too long to read through things over the course of a day.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
I was thinking he might end up at ttun if he gets an assistant coaching job at Appalachian State then maybe Harbaugh poaches him from there. You know kind of like baby steps..
The ND pipeline is working pretty well. Warinner, Hinton, Alford...
Before Brian Kelly makes a hire, does he consult with Urban to find out who he might want down the road?
As an extra slap to the ND face, after working wonders at Utah, Urban turned down a ND head coach offer to take the Florida job.
Source? I'd never heard this before. I think it's actually very unlikely... Lots have been said about Urban's contract at Florida and it is believed that it contained clauses that would have allowed him to jump ship at HC positions at OSU or Notre Dame if the jobs came available and were offered.
It may have been before your time but Urban's star was rising fast in the early 2000's after leading Utah to an undefeated season. Meanwhile the Domers were still in search of a coach greater than .500 since Lou Holtz left in '96. The George O'Leary debacle lasted only 5 days, Tyrone Willingham lasted only 3 years and for the 2004 season, the Irish offered the job to the top young coach in the country. Urban Meyer also happened to be an assistant with the Irish back in the 90's (WRs I believe). Urban turned them down and took the job at Florida, where he knew the academic and recruiting standards were WAY lower. Turned out to be a successful move for him.
ND, on the other hand, settled for Charlie 'Cheeseburger' Weiss and the rest is .500 history.
On a side note, Brian Kelly is the most successful coach there since Holtz, but for some reason can't seem to hold onto his assistants.
Don't forget about Bob Davie. The only idiot I've ever heard use the word "collisioned" before. Its no wonder he didnt last either. #1 OSU vs #2 Michigan, 2006. "The question is, was the football in the air when he collisioned him?" Smh
ND did offer, but I think they dragged their feet a bit, and Urban was already planning on taking ND job. ND's ad/board are a bunch of idiots.
Hah...beat me to it Brooklyn. I was living in Utah back then and what I heard was that his UT contract had an out clause for the following schools: tOSU, ND, M*ch.
“That’s the way you respect a rivalry. Then you outwork them and then you kick that ass like it’s never been kicked before” - Urban F Meyer
I stand corrected! Thanks fellas. Good to know!
How long until Brian Kelly calls Urban to ask for a job on the OSU staff????
Buckeye in PA purgatory
Birm has been saying Tommy Kraemer is sticking with Notre Dame barring a coaching change.
Hopefully Alford has a nice connection with him to serve up another flip!
I just logged in to post something similar.. I like your thought process ;) I really hope this can bring Kraemer "home".
As I get closer to my 50's, I notice there is more gray and less scarlet.
At least sway Eichenberg our way.
Just gotta get Thomas Wilcher to sign off.
That guy is a tool.
The only thing that i've learned in light of this recent recruiting drama is that Wilcher is a tool. That's about it
Well hopefully this appeases all of the pundits out there! Can't wait to see OSU football next season (and the season after that...and the one after that...)
"Football is, after all, a wonderful way to get rid of your aggressions without going to jail for it." Woody Hayes
For kicks and giggles I just checked and Alford was ND's primary for KWalker according to 247Sports... I'm hoping we end up with Walker, Hill, and McCall next season!!!
This is huge considering the big recruiting potential that the 2016 class has. It's time for OSU to secure that consensus #1recruiting title after back-to-back National Championships!
Wouldn't this be the 3rd assistant that Urbs has poached from ND (Warinner and Hinton)?
I see no negatives with this, none. Great recruiter, ND RBs seem pretty good these past few years, good relationship with kids recruited into the program and coming to the program. Once again Urban nails it.
I love the positives he brings with recruiting and that part of his resume. I am a bit concerned about the fact that Notre Dame was 70th this year, 81st in 2013 and 38th in 2012 in team rushing. Now, this might be scheme related, because of lack of talent with personnel or lack of O-line effectiveness. Any thoughts?
Chalk this up to piss-poor QBs half the time, so stacking the box constantly, not to mention I can't think of the last decent receiver at ND aside from Golden Tate and Smardjzia, the Cubs pitcher.
Suck it, Catholics.
(Image ironically pulled from an article about Gee saying he didn't trust those damn Catholics)
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
Ummmm Urban Meyer.... He's catholic!
Uhhhh, UFM is Catholic....
Sorry TraSmith4, I posted this because yours hadn't appeared on my screen yet.
I'm Catholic and that shit is great lol!

This sends a huge message that many assistants think that Ohio State is a promotion over Notre Dame. I hope that Weber is excited by this hire.
It doesn't matter what Weber thinks, NOBODY is bigger than the TEAM.
What we can't do in the air we'll do on the ground.
Someone please, please, put a block O on that bandana and make my enjoyment complete!
Urbs himself has stated several times that GREAT players make coaches look better. What's made him a GREAT coach is that he's a great recruiter, and by going out and getting Alford (NDs best recruiter), he shows his recipe for success. Recruiting. It's no surprise that there are 5 OSU coaches in the top ten of the B1Gs best recruiters.
Yep, rankings and stars aren;t gospel, but they are a damn good indication, and the Buckeyes are getting great recruits and great recruiters that will keep this train humming along.
Bonus that he and Warinner have already worked together, and now with upgraded talent!!
Haha, I feel like urban is just asking warinner who to hire at this point
for best results, read everything i write in italics
Welcome to Buckeye Nation! I'm sure Urban asked him what his ring size was in their interview. :)
I've heard that if Alford didn't accept then Louis Ayeni would have been the next man up.
I think he's with Iowa State now.
I don't think there's ever a Plan B where Urban is involved...
Wasn't Coombs a plan C? Not throwing insults out, I'm just pretty sure I heard that somewhere.
Even if true, coach Coombs has retroactively asserted himself as Plan A.
Haha... not if you ask our fans at the end of last season :/ He was right up there with Fickell in terms of blame being pointed.
"Captain, over here, I've found someth... AHHHH!!!!!!"
Of all the original 2012 staff, I think Coombs was the least "credentialed," but he's become such an iconic part of the program, and proven himself as a coach. I think it would be worth it to pay Coombs $200,000 even if all he did was make his legendary recruiting pitch to families. Wasn't it Elliott who first made that message known to the world?
Based on Urban's most recent coaching, I would say that his decision-making is going well, and my gut says that this continues that trend.
I approve of this hire.
Im going to tweet the Cass Tech folks and see how they feel about this hire...

I'm curious to see if we will pay him more than Wheatley.
Michigan: The salaries of some of the Michigan assistants have been released by the Detroit News; Tim Drevno (OC/OL) – $800k, DJ Durkin (DC / LBs) – $800k, Jay Harbaugh (TEs) – $175k year one and $200k year two, Greg Mattison (DL) – $500k and a $200k signing bonus, Tyrone Wheatley (RBs) – $335k year one and $365 in year two, John Baxter (STC) – $350k, Jedd Fisch (pass game coordinator / QBs / WRs) – $200k, Greg Jackson (secondary) – $300k and a $50k signing bonus, and Michael Zordich (secondary) – $287k.
Stickin it to the Golden Domers! Love it! Self righteous p*****!
I was at that game, and it was glorious. The sign my friends and I made became famous.
What was the sign?
Bury me in my away jersey, with my buckeye blanket. A diehard who died young. Rip dad.
Fixed it, thanks.
Great memory. Was on my honeymoon in the USVI. A young woman sat down at the bar next to me at kickoff in a "Happiness is being Irish" t-shirt. She told me she was also recently married and her uncle was ND's team doctor. She said he told her, "We'll score 30 points, but if OSU figures out how much faster they are than we are on the edge, OSU will score 100." When TG, Jr. got (20 yards...) behind #22 on our first TD she looked at me, slammed her fist on the bar and said, "The first of 100, apparently. Good night, buddy." Good times!! :)
Hopefully this news will serve as a xanax for all the people from the Mike Weber's HC thread. My gosh do some ppl overeact due to BS on social media.
It is time!!!!!
You mean words straight from Weber and his HS coach? lol those are just random people on social media
What Weber said was very subtle, of course he was upset that Drayton left. As for Wilcher, the shit he said seemed to be a dramatic, last ditch effort to get Weber at UM. It's pathetic that a HS coach make those comments, even if that's how he really feels.
The whole issue was blown extremely out of proportion.... By Michigan writers and a tool-bag HS coach.
Do you have a link that supports your theory that it was blown out of proportion? Judging by how Weber and his HS coach have acted, seems to me like they really feel mislead by Urban Meyer and Stand Drayton. Nothing either of them has said leads me to believe that this whole thing has been overblown. I feel like you want it to be overblown, when it reality, it isn't.
I'd say it is overblown. What about the ND recruits who just lost a coach? It happens every year. Yet this player and coach (who is a TTUN alum and former teammate of Harbaugh) want to make it all about them. Coincidence? It was overblown.
Nothing either of them has said leads me to believe that this whole thing has been overblown.
Realist, some people have the ability to take information, think critically, and arrive at a logical conclusion. Other people are sort of like you.
You are absolutely right, some people are, dare I say a realist? Sorry if you can't handle the truth brotha. Take care though
Just one thing, love the screen name....you seem like quite the realist. You can really see the overblown comments being made on this thread, right? Just like ones you're making. Thanks for contributing.
Coaches should be lining up to work under Urban. Its kind of a no brainer, work for the best, win natty's, and get a head coaching job in two years. Duh

When Urban came to Ohio State in 2012, he stated his plan of going out and getting the best recruits in the country, then going and getting the best coaches in the country. Put that together and you have a proven winner. OH-
In construction terms, this would be akin to taking a sledge hammer to hit a nail sticking above the floor slightly. The nail slightly tripped you and now you will make it pay for your troubles. Problem solved and you got to work some frustration out at the same time.

Does his Mother need a job?
DJ, two questions about this great hire:
1) Will his salary be an increase from his ND pay?
2) Does this help keep Weber happy and committed? (Hate to go there, but I know many are wondering the same thing.)
Thank you for all your hard work, and great articles!
1) Would have to think a salary increase is coming for him. Obviously nothing to confirm, yet.
2) Not the Lord of Whispers here obviously, but Alford seems to be beloved by any recruit he's worked with. Don't see how his hiring would HURT Ohio State. More importantly maybe, Alford has a working relationship with 2016's No. 1 RB (and OSU commit) Kareem Walker.
There is not "upgrading" of coaches under UFM. He sees something in a coach and brings him into his fold. The coach must be willing to adopt the system and execute. I'm sure Weber feels better now too. In Urban we Trust!
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
If I were Urban I would publicly announce that they offered Weber a release from his LOI. That would shut up all the haters when Weber chooses to stay with the best program and coaches in the country.
First and goal at the five and Arch is getting the ball.
Please stop with the "let Weber out of his LOI" . So now we are going to let every recruit out of their LOI because their mommy and daddy and HS coach went on TV and whined and cried about how their poor baby was duped? Especially when said parents and HS coach are in the bag for a rival school and wanted junior to go there for some major reason that won't see the light of day unless someone in their camp screws up? Junior, who decommitted from favored school two months ago, then committed to OSU and never decommited all the way through signing? It isn't like we flipped the kid on signing day. He had more than one trip to Columbus and hours of time given to him by staff and team members.
What the hell good is a letter of intent then? Why not just wait and see who shows up for the first game and then we can declare the members of our team?
Not once have we seen anything from Mike Weber himself saying he wanted out . Yet because he expressed a typical 17 year old's disappointment in changes he had no control over, people keep repeating this meme that he doesn't want to stay, wants out of his LOI.
Stop. Please somebody, put stop girl on.
Ok, STOP IT!, Just stop right now!
DV'ing this gif should result in an automatic 11W jail sentence.
Meh, I didn't down vote it, but it is getting a bit redundant.
When you lose, say little. When you win, say less.
"Meh" to start your post is redundant.
Aw, isn't that cute. We have a smartass.
Seriously. Is she "hot?" No.
Is she, "absolutely adorable?"
Yes she is.
The LOI is in place to keep kids from being swayed away from their commitment after signing. If the LOI was so easily "ripped up", some schools would have trouble filling their class. We all (well most of us) knew that Meyer would make a spectacular hire to mend the whole situation.
Look in the forum at what Weber's mom tweeted yesterday.
Doesn't sound like they are interested in backing out at all - Weber said he was hurt - never said he wanted to back out of his decision.
Also, I'd love to hear how the Holier Than Thou are rationalizing the loss of a coach to a lateral hire. The last time Notre Dame was relevant was the 1940's.
Germans have been able to put Nazism behind them. They accept their atrocities and are sorry. Notre Dame has had the same amount of time to atone for sucking at football but still thinking they're good. THIS AGGRESSION WILL NOT STAND, MAN.
The Dude abides.
"The future is bright at Ohio State." -UFM
You have no point of reference. lol
And I don't know about you, Hills, but I take great comfort in that.
Tony Alford is a great replacement for Stan Drayton at #Buckeyes, Mike Weber will get coached up. pic.twitter.com/vB2nkZ6kKQ

I'm happy we hired a coach that I was already familiar with from recruiting.

“I have yet to be in a game where luck was involved. Well-prepared players make plays. I have yet to be in a game where the most prepared team didn't win.” -Urban Meyer
Hopefully Weber and Walker retweet that
...and I'm happy that Zeke's happy.
and i'm happy your happy that Zeke's happy lol
Twitter seriously needs a way to eliminated people from being looped into stupid arguments about themselves in the replies . Just went to his twitter account to see if he had posted something about it, theres an ND/OSU tweet-fight breaking out. Smh.
Best recruiter in the country now at the best school in the country! I expect a lot of #BOOOOOOMS soon!!!
Ohio State has yet to confirm Tony Alford hire, but RB @EzekielElliott seems sure of it per his last two tweets.
— Tim May (@TIM_MAYsports) February 7, 2015
Apparently he recruited Jeff heuerman's little brother to ND.
My worst sunburn ever wasn't nearly that red.
So last year we brought in two new coaches and we won the national championship.
This year we bring in two new coaches, does that mean we repeat?
Repeat is So-Sweet...
Repeat is So-Sweet...
Wow. Really nice hire. Also goes to show that the head coach is the most important coach. Urban can win with his players, your players, his coaches, AND your coaches.
It's time for Urb and Alford to meet with Weber and calm him down. The kid will find out he's going to play for a Big Ten and national championship every year he's at The Ohio State University. If he wants out and wants to go to the Mustard and Blue, he will find out he's playing for the Heart of Dallas Bowl or Quick Lane Bowl every year he's there.
Weber needs to calm Weber down. So far our coaches have done exactly what they are supposed to do. Recruit and coach. They are not required to carry around Kleenex with them.
More like it's time for Weber to throw on his shoulder pads and see if he can even sniff 3rd string RB this year.
This really doesn't have anything to do with the hire, but it's my all-time favorite anti-ND picture:
I'm the guy wearing the black hat under the C. That's my friend Laura holding up the sign.
By all account he is a great coach but his calling card is recruiting as a recruiting ace. More specifically his recruiting in the State of Florida is his specialty this only helps us going forward to have him and Zach Smith down there. This is a home run hire in every aspect and really should alleviate any and all concerns regarding Kareem Walker. Just a big-time pickup and kudos to Urbz for making it happen fast.
Good news - this looks like an awesome hire.
You'd think, by now, that our negative nellies would have learned that their potshots always end blowing back in their faces, but apparently they never learn.
Kelly is probably patenting a new shade of purple as we speak
I am thinking the ND coaches that have not been hired by urban feel like the last kid selected for kick ball in elementary school
Well that's a new one for me. 2 double posts, that are separated by each other.
I hate to break it to you, but there aren't any double posts in this thread. You're seeing double.
Looks like SOMEONE started early today!
Now I may or may not be using my work computer that is behind the times in terms of technology, but there isn't 2 double posts back to back from 2 different users for realzies?
I'm snapping a screenshot
I refuse to use italics to signify sarcasm or snark, often to my own detriment.
I'm now going to go read some ND boards and bask in the butt hurt. :D
So Urban couldn't call me and tell me i wasn't getting the job? I could have produce 2500 yards backs every year.. U messed up big time Mr.Meyers.
Interesting stats about Alford's coaching bio at ND:
Notre Dame's running backs only lost three fumbles in 13 games in 2012. Notre Dame lost only four fumbles in 2013, which was tied with Bowling Green, Wisconsin, Utah, Virginia Tech and South Alabama for tops in the FBS, and only two were lost by Irish running backs.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Quick somebody needs to check the air pressure on those footballs #deflategate
That is one glaring opportunity for the team heading into 2015. Take care of the football. If it wasn't for the turnovers, the Sugar Bowl and the NC would have been much closer to the end result of the Wisky game. I can't imagine how bad the NC would've been without the -4 turnover margin (Mariotta INT was on the last play so that doesn't count). And Saban knew it also, the only reason they had a 1 point lead is because of the TOs. That's scary.
Golson apparently was tired of his team not fumbling enough...
Interesting he gets Asst Head Coach title that Larry Johnson currently has. 2 Asst's or is Larry just demoted?
Edit: Apparently too as Drayton had that title as well
Some companies have like 300 Vice Presidents of _____, don't they?
All your coaches are belong to us!
Has it ever been better to be a buckeye fan than now? The Urbs is a legend and is worth every penny.
Let this be an example to all of those who were immediately were suspicious of foul play in regards to the Drayton exit, of how fast things can change, two days ago, Notre Dame was in no danger of losing its RB coach, now they are in the same boat we were in, scrambling to figure out a new plan & settling worried recruits, these things happen, we should not be so quick to jump the gun...
"Because I couldn't go for three."
Perfect get, naturally!!!!
In related: it was also reported that Stan Drayton got neither interview nor offer from Bears until Thursday. Perhaps some haters can go back and delete their comments?
Yes BUT Dexter Williams who is committed to ND just tweeted that he feels betrayed now! We should all now go out of our way and post multiple threads blaming the Chicago Bears for causing such great pain to not 1 but now 2 high schoolers!
"Feel betrayed but it is what it is. Still gonna ball w/ my friends @ #Irish"
Now that is how you handle a coaching change. Weber, Webers family and coaches, take notice please.
I think Notre Dame needs to replace Touchdown Jesus with an adapted version of this...
So um how could they forget to put Woody on there?
Why is Woody not on there? Because of the punch? That would be mighty uppity of Miami, especially considering there must be stuff honoring Big Ben.
Woody played at Denison. There are many people Miami considers. These were the best that were Miami grads. Relax man, some of us Buckeye fans graduated from other Ohio colleges. Put down the tin foil hat and step away from the conspiracy theories.
Have you ever seen a fierce animal who you were sure wouldn't bite? Because I haven't.
Okay, I didn't realize they were only showing people who played there, thanks. I will say the tinfoil hat thing runs completely opposite civil discourse, and is used far too often to dismiss anything people disagree with on the internet. It's not funny or enlightening.
I graduated from another college too, not sure how that applies.
Yeah, sorry about the tin foil comment. Little scarred from members of other OSU message boards giving crap to grads of other Ohio DI colleges. I've been mocked on multiple occasions for saying that stating that "Fredo of Ohio" is the best mens hockey team in the state and has been over the past ten years, b/c you know... facts.
All good, GLS! Go Bucks (and all things Ohio)!
I was not aware there were other colleges in Ohio. Interesting.
University of Phoenix and University of Southern New Hampshire, to name just a couple.
Yeah, Notre Dame: Cradle of Ohio State Assistant Coaches. As an aside (and bragging a little) I can proudly say I was recruited to play football by one of the coaches on the Miami Cradle of Coaches mural.
Haters gonna hate and Bert is gonna Bert.
Awesome hire!!! I was a little worried there for a minute!!!!!!!!
Before Coach Urb hung up with Alford:
"What's your next move as the new rb's coach ?"
Alford, "Already texted our next top three 5-star's Coach !"
UFM to wife, "Put on another pot of coffee...&...start brew'n another pan of 4-leaf-clovers dear...the day is not over yet !"
Notre Dame board reacts to the news of losing Tony Alford to Ohio State. Many calling it a major blow to ND. http://t.co/RKPlSIvggl
— jbook (@jbook37) February 7, 2015
Huge get! UFM continues to show that all of college football belongs to him.
Heck freaking yes! Wonderful hire.
first ed warriner now alford. brian Kelly is really going to over heat now.
I dont know karate but i do know crazy and i'm not afraid to use it.
He's been at ND for a while, figured if he wants to win a Natty AND become a coordinator or HC some day, he needs to go to a top tier program in the 21st century.
He sounds like he'll fit right in.
“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden
Glad Coach Alford at OSU now !

More great news!!!!
^^^ Hell, yeah!!
WILL THE TRAVESTIES NEVER STOP !!! ???
First Stan D.. leaves his recruits high and dry with Urban's knowledge.....
then Urban compounds the act by hiring Tony Alford......causing him to leave all his recruits swing in the wind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WILL SUCH TRAVESTIES EVER STOP ?
Urban F Meyer coming thru and stealing every coach and recruit that isnt bolted down. *ichigan tears up at this hire. Gottta love being a Buckeye right now.
Mark my words..I don't need acceptance. I'm catching interceptions on you innocent pedestrians.
Hopefully some of the "The sky is falling" posters on here will give UFM more than a couple days to put out the next "fire" that the Buckeyes experience. Every team in sports experiences some adversity but true fans give their HC some time to fix the thing that gets broken.
Now we can consider this situation "fixed" and sit back and enjoy how coach Alford stomps on those teams (*ichigan) that tried to take advantage of our problem.
Notre Dame is our coaching pipeline!!! I wonder if Tony Alford called all of his recruits before deciding? I hope he called the HC for Cass Tech because apparently he needs to know everything before it happens, I guess???
A lot of guys on the ND forum are in disbelief saying its a lateral move. They are living in the past like the scUM boys. OSU is the undisputed king of the midwest the last 15 years. Most BCS wins and 2 national titles since 2000. OSU is also the current king of all of college football. OSU >>>>>> ND.
Meyer and Alford - Both from the Earl Bruce coaching tree. Great hire. Coach Alford's resume:
Zone6, with rotating WR's, will have 1000+ yards at all 3 WR positions this season
Ohio state doesn't recruit new coaches, it reloads
Excerpts from Alfords unc.com resume:
•Notre Dame lost only four fumbles in 2013, which was tied with Bowling Green, Wisconsin, Utah, Virginia Tech and South Alabama for tops in the FBS, and only two were lost by Irish running backs.
•Notre Dame's running backs only lost three fumbles in 13 games in 2012. In total, Alford's group has lost just five fumbles in the last two seasons combined (26 games).
•Notre Dame ran for at least 200 yards seven times in 2012, including six of its last nine contests. The Irish had not posted more 200+ yard rushing games in a single season since 1996.
•The quartet of Wood, Riddick, George Atkinson III and Cam McDaniel averaged 5.7 yards per tote.
•Named one of six finalists for national recruiter of the year by 247Sports.com following 2011 signing day and was tabbed one of nation's top 25 recruiters in 2011 by Rivals.com.
•During the 2008 season, one of Alford's pupils, redshirt freshman Victor Anderson, rushed for 1,047 yards with eight touchdowns and became the first Louisville running back to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards since 2005. Anderson was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Year and second-team all-BIG EAST. He was also placed on Sporting News' Freshman All-America squad.
•Iowa State was one of only three FBS schools that produced a 1,000-yard rusher annually from 1995-2001.
•During his initial four years in Ames (1997-2000), Iowa State improved from 103rd to 17th nationally in rushing.
Where's all the ND recruits that fell hurt as hell??
Great hire! Get this man on the horn with Weber ASAP! As we can already see, Zeke is more than excited!
Hmmm, Scout is saying it spoke with Alford and he indicated that he is coming on board as the Buckeyes RB coach AND ASSISTANT HEAD COACH ..... I'm assuming that by providing him with this title, a little something / something goes with it in the pay department ??
How many Assistant HC's do we have ??
Great hire and I'm sure the only one who is pissed off (besides Kelly), is that half-wit HC from Cass, who shot his mouth off far too soon ...
Already changed his twitter background and Bio.
I'm on my phone but did anyone check out his Twitter bio? Hilarious. He seems excited!! LETS GO!!
Scared money don't make money!
Coach Kelley has to be sick right about now. The way I see it there is only one cure, home and away series. Let's do it!
my notre dame fan/friends are extremely butthurt about this one. this was a great hire i still reserve judgement on beck
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Kelly's now got a heckuva sales pitch when trying to hire assistants in the future "do well here, and you can get promoted to OSU"
And, do well working for Coach Meyer and you are on a fast track for a head coaching position at a D-1 school.

It seems like UFM is on a bit of a roll.
UFM: Urban Flipping Meyer !
