I hope we don't play Navy for a long time. That triple option is such a pain and theres that crazy stat that teams lose quite often after playing them because of the preparation that is required for the Navy game and then the odd transformation back to regular prep after the game.
VA Tech fans seem thoroughly clueless regarding the impact playing Navy the week prior had in setting OSU up for that home defeat. I think it especially hurt the D in not getting to work some kinks out against a traditional passing attack. In the same way there couldn't have been a worse opponent to start the 2014 season, I don't think there could be a better opponent to start the 2015 in VA Tech. These Bucks will be focused for 8 months leading up to that game!
The line in Vegas for the OSU/VT game just opened at OSU -10,000. O/U 10,000
Why does Dublin have so many round-abouts? Because everyone in Dublin thinks they have the right-of-way.
If Miller, Barrett, and Jones are all able to play against VT, we can justify running up the score since it will be our "second string" and "third string" quarterbacks accounting for a lot of the points we should score.
in big time football, there is no such thing as running up the score. It is not the job of the team doing to the scoring to stop themselves from scoring. The coach is tasked with getting the team ready, therefore the more reps the team gets, the better it is.
The 2015 VT game is going to be an epic beat-down. I do believe UFM can hold a grudge.
"you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning"
And he should. He was totally out coached in that game.

I dunno. I think our O-line was our weak spot at that point in time.
Also JT was still getting an understanding of how open a receiver needed to be in order to complete a pass. There were open receivers but he was slightly delayed in his decision-making. It's remarkable how quickly he turned it around the next few weeks.
The bigger issue was the O Line though - 7 sacks and 21 hurry-ups in the game.
That's part of what makes the championship run even more improbable. Not only the whole QB situation, the young defense, and the OL needing time to gel....... but also how badly outcoached Urban was against VT.
But true to his makeup, he and his staff rebounded with a vengeance, and got the players to completely buy in for the rest of the season despite that nightmare game.
Someone needs to make a fucking movie about this.......
And he said regarding a question over the last touchdown against Oregon...."We don't take a knee". Neither did Woody.
We were losing to Navy in the third quarter. By season's end we were dominating No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Oregon. That is quite the transformation for a team in one season. I still don't think I have fully grasped how incredible that is.
"You win with people." -Woody Hayes
Navy would give most teams in the country a rough first game.
The person responsible for toes clearly wanted you to stub them.
Wait until the next article: VT…looking specifically at how the team looked then in the reports that will be offered will be an amazing look back at the sequence of development from that point to hoisting the national championship trophy.
Can't we just skip the VT article?!! But seriously without that loss, we would've probably never seen the unbelievable growth & improvement this team has shown from game to game afterwards and throughout the season.
To be honest, I don't think this team goes on the run it did without that loss. It was a jarring smack to their psyche and I think got them more focused, allowing them to buy into Meyer's plan. I myself was so furious after that game I remember commenting to a friend it was probably the worst I had seen OSU play in years, they looked completely out of sorts in all three phases of the game, so I decided I would just enjoy watching a young team grow the rest of the season and not worry about getting into the playoffs since I thought they had played themselves out if that weekend. Then something happened, you know the rest.
Ahh....Darron Lee's coming out party! Kid is a beast. Oh, that Barrett kid was ok too!
Remember how his mom got pissed the announcers were calling him DeRon?
Yep...the magic of Verne Lundquist carries on.
Got M...igan gossip? Bang it here.
Good ol' Uncle Verne. Did you all know that was the first time since 1911 that OSU hadn't scored a TD in the first half? I know it sounds crazy, but if Uncle Verne says so, it must be true!
The Navy game seems like forever ago. It is amazing how much this team grew in 5 short months.
Agree 100%. I went to that game and came away very concerned about how the rest of the season might go.
Wow. I forgot we were ranked #5 at the time... the rise, and fall, and rise of this season truly was amazing.
That being said, I hope we don't have to deal with that triple option in the foreseeable future - nightmare to prepare for.
-Ohio Against The World-
Yes, winning and dropping to #8. I <3 ESPN.
I totally forgot about that - the haters were out early and often Bob - So many people wanted us to just go away and it was their mission to keep us down week after week. That's why this victory tastes a little sweeter.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
The #5 ranking was before Braxton got hurt, we were bound to drop win or lose
Not sure how one could argue with polls dropping us after this game. And polls were right.
In retrospect, had the polls been accurate, we would have moved to #1. j/s
Man. I was working on building a new patio that day and listening to the game on the radio. I finally took a break and came in to see that fumble return TD. What a great day.
I am not looking forward to the next re-cap. Can we please skip this next game, please?
There's no points for second place, gentlemen.
Exactly. I'm capturing all the URLs as we go. Well, 14 of the 15, anyway. It's going to be a long 7 months.......
Obviously an important W for the BUCKEYES, but more importantly I appreciated CBS showing the pregame handshake and the postgame singing of both alma maters. Watching our players hustling across the field to join in with Navy then back again for Carmen Ohio illustrated the class that Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer have brought to the program. Proud day to be a BUCKEYE.
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
Just noticed the entire game posted at the end of the article. Even if you don't have the time to watch the game in its entirety please watch the pregame Sportsmanship Handshake and the postgame singing of the alma maters. Gary Danielson, like him or not, getting choked up after the game and commenting on this being the best example of what makes college football great is a great tribute to class of the men on both sides of the ball that day.
Hats off to Navy.
Speaking of, I really liked Navy's helmets, and their likeness to the military uniform.

Let's take a minute to go back a bit further to last years spring game. I remember the Buckeyes, even Urban, pushing the spring game to try to get more fans attending. A 97.1 show, I think it was Common Man, was scratching their heads at that because in pressers, Urban would say they were holding out injured players, like Braxton. The thought was why go out and see a practice game with 2 quarterbacks you aren't too concerned about. Let that sink in for a minute.
"The Chase: 2.0". Coming to a stadium near you.
Seems like just yesterday I was sitting in those stands and saw my first 11W hat.
The offseason is the longest season.
Most people probably forgot that we started Lee, Perry in middle, and Worley at the linebackers to have the most speed. Also, Burrows alternated with Bell and Conley with Apple as the coaches were still deciding starting spots.
How did that all work out again?
NAVY 0 7 7 3 1
Come on Maks, I know you're a writing guy but that math is turrible
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
I'll remember this game for the tailgating and Friday night shenanigans at Inner Harbor.
Inner Harbor was very nice. After the game there was an Orioles game going on, my hotel had a balcony that was essentially in left center field. We hung our TOSU flag off the balcony and essientially claimed that space (Buckeye Balcony) in the name of TOSU. Navy fans were very respectful and friendly, Orioles fans not so much.
Maryland fans seemed to be the worst of all of them. Salty turdles.
There was a Buckeye bash at our hotel before the game. I shared a table with 3 retired naval officers, and of course you'd expext them to be respectful. However, one of them (in his early 70s) wouldn't stop photo bombing as we took various pics. Turned out being pretty comical, and just a great time all around. I was however surprised at how little interest the locals seemed to have in Navy football. All the tradition and honor surrounding everything they did was impressive, it would be easy to be a Navy fan in my opinion.
Watched this game while on staff duty at Fort Huachuca, AZ. I'm pretty sure I scared the daylights out of the lieutenant that was there with me on that fumble return.
Would love to see a 2014 football season in review series on DVD released from Ohio State....every game with no commercials.
"CAN THEY CATCH HIM - NO THEY CAN'T - TOUCHDOWN"
Navy is one of those teams you can never sleep on - they'll go to the last whistle and play hard throughout. The game never shows up as being a "big" victory during or after a season based on rankings, but anyone who plays them will likely agree it's never, ever going to be an easy win.
"Because we couldn't go for three"
we beat them 34-1?!
“Anyone can run the option. I can run the option.” - Urban Meyer Let's beat the snot out of *ichigan.
I can't wait to see what happens next week...
In case you're curious, it's Mr. Spray
I was at the Navy game. Man, we looked awful. Would not have picked osu to be the national champs after that one.
I season my simple food with hunger
I was at both the Navy game and the home opener the next week... can't remember who it was against... oh well it's inconsequential anyway :) We looked really, really bad after those 2 games and I said leaving Ohio Stadium "well at least the season ended early so I don't need to get all worked up over any more games since this team is clearly headed for the Outback Bowl."
Oh yeah, many of us had moments like that. One of my good friends came up from DC (im in Phila) to watch the VaTech game. It was a somber weekend.
Oh man, gonna love these rehash segments, had every game dvr'd until recently. The wife complained about taking up all the storage. Still have scUM, B1G Championship, Sugar Bowl and NC game. Love watching over and over will be a fun read with these posts. 11 Warriors is awesome just like our Buckeyes.
Yeah this season really taught me ALOT of things. I'm not even sure I believed a team could change and get drastically better before this. Everything I thought I knew changed bcuz of this team. I didn't think an Ohio State team was even capable of blowing out a good team 59-0... Or dominating an Alabama or Oregon team. I genuinely didn't even think it was possible
I seem to remember reading somewhere that said Ohio States defense prepared for Oregon by watching the Navy game tape. The sportsmanship of the teams in this game was awesome
That's a great point that has been overlooked. I believe because OSU spent so much time preparing for the Navy game, they weren't prepared for the VT game. Who would have thought all that preparation would ultimately help OSU lift the first undisputed NCF Championship Trophy!
Watching the .gif of Darron Lee's return, I'm really grateful that OSU's defense came away injury free in this game. Well before the Navy's OL is out of the picture, they are ALL on the ground or on their knees making low blocks at the defender's knees. Basically only the guy Bosa plowed through is standing, and doing a whole bunch of nothing running the opposite direction of the ball.
Between Navy, and VT, it was obviously a rough start, and how the O-line was a work in progress at best, makes the end results all the more sweet. Thankfully - UFM and Ed Warinner worked their magic! UFM HIRE BY tOSU THE BEST HIRE SINCE WOODY HAYES!
Bo Schembechler: Student of Woody;
Gary Moeller: Player for Woody;
Lloyd Carr & Rich Rodriguez: Owned by Tressel;
Brady Hoke: Owned by donuts;
Jim Harbaugh: Owned by Urban to the tune of 42-13.
i always knew we were going to win the ship this year! haha it is amazing how terrible we looked against Navy and the week later against VT. The growth is unreal and i cannot wait to start the season in VT with "the redemption/Vengence" to start the repeat.
Why does Ohio keep moving north? Cuz *ichigan sucks!
I was at the game, and the Navy brigades assembling before the game was also an incredible sight to behold. The Bucks going to join in Navy's post game ceremony was very classy and impressive. I was just happy to get out of there with a W.
