Nice post Tx. Whatever is happening with him, it sounds positive. I don't have any hope for him to play this season but would welcome him back with open arms if he would chose to return and is eligible next season. He is a good kid fighting some demons and growing up in the spotlight.
Also want to say big ups to Dontre Wilson for sticking by a fellow Buckeye in times of trouble...
Just another example of the guys picking each other up when they need it (Shazier's CB2 tribute, Marcus Hall at TTUN, Heuerman's Braxton tribute, Dontre fumbles/injury, Jalin fumbles, Spence support).
Great team chemistry can lead to great team accomplishments...
I was also pointing out Dontre showing folks how to properly use social media...in all seriousness, that's a credit to him in regards to what he recently endured from the assholes those who don't understand what it means to be a fan.
That's what I love about Ohio State, it truly is a family atmosphere, it seems as if everyone on the team loves each other as brothers and the coaches love their players. Urban Meyer's send off to CB2, Zach Smith hugging Dontre after his touchdown during a rough game, Urban and Smith standing behind Jalin, Kenny and Braxton being friends. They're full of the crazy competitiveness but are also full of love for each other. They also do volunteer work and help support the community. I know Josh Perry made that shout out to the kid with cancer and I know guys go visit kids at the hospital etc. Talented men, fierce competitors, unbreakable bond, and all going in one direction. Watch out Nicky because the Tide is rollin out.
I must say that I thought that Spence's career was over with the second failed drug test and, frankly, had to concede that this would have been a totally fair, if unfortunate, ending.
That said, his continued presence around the team, Meyer's support, and Birm's suggestion that he could get a third chance suggest that the wheels of bureaucratic forgiveness via a reprieve are in motion. I would be shocked if he was continuing to pursue reinstatement and the team was sponsoring it without NCAA and B1G approval.
I mean, what kind of player just suits up when in the midst of a suspension? Oh yeah, Jameis Winston.
TOSU never pulled his scholly. supposedly he was in treatment, possibly near or @ OSU medical. he practiced for awhile initially or was working out on his own I believe.
This would be the best "recruiting" news if he can get back. First and foremost I hope he is clean and getting his life straight though. If he get back to playing all the better
Depends how they view the drug. If it is not considered performance enhancing, then he might have a chance. Jeff Smoker battled cocaine addiction at MSU and was able to return. Hoping Spence can do the same.
Would have loved to have seen Bosa and Spence on the field together this year
Not that I have any relevant firsthand experience, but neither cocaine nor ecstasy enhance football performance.
Now, it has been alleged that someone who is under the influence of either cocaine or ecstasy does tend to believe that his powers of elocution are greatly enhanced, although his fellow conversationalists usually beg to differ.
Lawrence Taylor would beg to differ that cocaine does not enhance football performance. That guy played pretty damn good under the influence of cocaine haha but I'm sure he probably was taking other drugs also. I do agree with you though, those drugs should not be PED's except that they may make you react to stuff as if you were invincible.

Haha I have a baseball signed by Strawberry from when he played for the Columbus Clippers. Probably worth absolutely nothing but it was a cool moment for me. I was waiting outside the locker room for him to come out and I asked one of the players if he was going to, the player said he had snuck out the back door of the locker room, so I went out to the parking lot and sure enough he was almost to his car. I ran after him and asked him to sign a baseball that I got from another player who had thrown it from the bullpen after the game. I was the only person out there in the parking lot with him (except my father) haha but he was super nice and had no problem signing it. It made me so happy. I was only 10 years old and had no idea about his drug problem or why he wasn't still playing in the majors.
"The only meaningful statistic is number of games won." -woody
Maybe they're allowing him to work out in team facilities with access to team staff and assistants... basically getting him ready for the combine because he may not be able to play again in the B1G.
I think he needs to be as close to help as possible right now, and if that's in team facilities then I'm all for it.
“In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.” ~ Baba Dioum
according to urban after he let spence practice with the team initially after the announced suspension the B1G was quick to inform him that under the suspension he was to have no contact with organized team activity and workouts. If this is happening that means that there has been a change in his status either as a student or as an eligible athlete.
But is that the same thing as saying he can have access to the facilities and their coaches. In other words... it may not be an organized team activity but Marotti could help train... that's a question not a statement.
“In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.” ~ Baba Dioum
They way he formulated it on the call in show when this happened he made it clear spence wasn't allowed to have contact with team anything. I think he wouldn't be allowed to have any more access to areas or people that a typical student wouldn't have which means mick
I don't want to see anything coming out of the Woody.
Only want him back on the team if his personal issues (any addictions or whatever) are resolved. The kid and his education should be the first priority. The game will be there once he gets that squared away. Hope to see him in S&G again.
Probably working out. Theres no reason why he would be banned from the facility. Hope he continues to focus on recovery and comes back stronger than before. He has a bright future ahead of him and has the programs and the fan base's full support
Personally, I think he is done for the season. However, the comeback could refer to next season? Hopefully? Who knows. Good post, and it does beg the question of "What do the comments mean". Anyway, maybe Urban will talk about it in the call in show, like mentioned above. Interesting comments, nonetheless.
You can feed a bobcat all the chili it wants. That don't mean it's going to crap out diamonds.
No matter what happens to him as it relates to football at OSU or anywhere else, this young man has a long life in front of him. I am fortunate that I have not had to deal with something like this nor has anyone close to me but it is my understanding that the way to beat this demon is to have a strong team of supporters around you helping you. This appears to be what is happening in this program. Taking football completely off the table I love what these guys, the coaching staff and the university are doing for this young man as a person. It speaks to the character of what Urban Meyer has built.
This could very well mean he wont play this year but because they'll lift the suspension for 2015 he can start practicing again. At the very worst having Spence rush against our OL in practice will help us when we run up against someone with a hellacious pass rusher.

The whole issue at play here is that Ecstasy is classified as a performance enhancer. If it was considered a street drug, he would be eligible to play after a 1 year suspension. At least that was the punishment when I played. My guess is that OSU feels comfortable convincing the Big 10 that X should be classified as recreational and not performance enhancing. I think the FDA would agree.
I don't know much about Ecstasy but from what little I have heard it sounds anything but performance-enhancing. Does anyone know why it would be considered as such? Thanks to FormerBuck for pointing that out.
It may not mean with the Buckeyes, it could be the NFL or a transfer. I would love to have him in Scarlet and Gray but I just want him to get better and have a successful life.

Comeback doesn't have to mean playing either. It could be getting his life together. At least it can easily be read that way.
I'd love for him to be able to come back and play. He needs to have kicked this habit though.
Very true and good point. A comeback in life is a far bigger win than a comeback in football.

wasn't there a yankee pitcher that threw a no hitter while coked up? wells i think?
cocaine is most certainly a performance enhancing drug, and for the record so is ritalin and its equals.

David Wells I believe threw his no no so hungover he was blacked out.
And what hasn't Doc Gooden done on blow?
