It's as if hoke is trying really hard to get fired.

Yeah, well…that’s just like, your opinion, man.

He went to a Charlie Weis financial planning seminar over the summer.

HS

Id like to hear that seminar! Must be based on how to spend the millions of dollar your last university is still paying u! lol

Here's the summary:

Step 1:  Work for Bill Belichick

Step 2:  Get hired as a head coach

Step 3:  Collect money without regard to performance

Step 4:  Repeat

Special guest testimonials by Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel, and Josh McDaniels.

HS
OSU_ALUM_05's picture

Earle, I like your list except that Step 3 is a lot more complicated than you're making it seem.  You have to get hired for big dollars, negotiate a laughable buy-out clause, perform poorly, get fired, and then get paid by the previous employer while you work for one of the previous employer's competitors.  It takes real brilliance to get that done.

HS
Earle's picture

You're giving Charlie way too much credit. I'll concede that I left out an interim step: Either hire a great agent, or interview with the Browns.

HS

negotiate a laughable buy-out clause

Before that, they need to negotiate a ridiculous extension after 1 good season with someone else's recruited talent.

Step 4: Return to Step 2

No need to go back to Belichick.

Yeah, that's what I meant, though it worked for McDaniels so far.

HS

I heard that RichRod has attended that seminar as well. Imagine him and Hoke sitting next to each other sharing notes.

You need to distinguish the MGoBlog content pages (mostly very good though I don't always agree) from the MGBoard (a couple-dozen smart and well-informed guys and thousands of idiots).

Run of the mill low-information sports fans care for nothing but the last win or loss.  And many of the MGoBoarders were worshipping the 11-2 Brady Hoke.

But Brian Cook was always circumspect and he deserves a lot of credit for not falling into any worship of Hoke.

I'm struggling about whether to feel bad for the players or laugh at the program and administration.  Sometimes, you just have to laugh:

Brady Hoke is too incompetent to be Michigan's coach. He's too incompetent to be responsible for 85 kids who might get badly hurt at any moment. Hell, he's too incompetent to run a Hooters. Do not eat the chicken at Brady Hoke Hooters. That's not chicken.

HS

He might have talked shit about our team, but no one deserves to have their well-being ignored by a person that they've chosen to place their complete trust in.  Regardless of who he is or what team he plays for, that's pretty messed up.

For what it's worth, I recall very few Michigan fans talking shit about Tyler Moeller.

HS

I don't think he was saying to disrespect Morris's injury. I think he meant his awful play on the field.

Understood.  Misunderstanding on my part.

I agree though; karma's a coma. Look at JT—keep your mouth shut and let your play do the talking. Definitely glad our last two quarterbacks have been of that mold.

HS

The running theme since Hoke got there seemed to pit the proud, noble Michigan men against the brash, loud, talkative Buckeyes. All of this held true except when it didn't, which was always. It seemed like three or four times a year there was a Michigan player popping off at the mouth about Ohio State but I don't recall the same level of talk from this side.

But aren't we the loud ones?

Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.

My favorite comment from the halcyon days of '11, but the whole thread is adorable:

Brady Hoke may bet he best thing that's happened to the program since Bo. Perfect honesty, clear values and a love for the university that he teaches his players is so much of the story. And the humility. I hope I can learn that from him - even from a distance. The coaching of fundamentals, the attention to detail and a clear focus seem like every coach's objectives, and then we get to watch a guy that actually gets those things done - and he's ours! I assume that the Ohio alumni are as happy as they can be about Meyer. He appears to be a fine man, but he won't be a better coach than Hoke. I wouldn't trade Hoke for Meyer or any of the laundry list of saviors we thought we needed last year. Go Blue.

Just wonderful.  How much time did it take you to dig that up.  Granted, you had your pick of comments all the way up to week 2 of this season.

Also, enjoy the immediate response to this post too…...

Maybe the biggest difference is that Hoke will still be here in 5 years, Meyer probably won't.

Easy to find if you know where to look. When were the Michiganders feeling pretty good about themselves? After they broke their losing streak against the Buckeyes. I googled mgoblog hoke November 2011. Took less than a minute.

Another of my favorite excerpts:

Michigan was flagrantly negligent about Shane Morris's safety. Period.

And then they lied about it. To your face. Because they think you're too fucking dumb to do anything about it.

Michigan's athletic department has been insulting the intelligence of their fans for years with offended statements about how they weren't really going to do the thing they said they were going to do and the thing you're mad about definitely is your fault, not theirs.

I watched the youtube of Morris in the 4th quarter and felt deeply sad for him.  A young man trying to do what his coach was asking of him, but physically unable.  When he reached out to the lineman for help my heart broke for him.  I have always thought Flounder was a genuinely nice guy, completely out of his depth, but a nice caring person.  Not anymore.  I have enjoyed watching AACC's decent into obscurity, but not at the expense of the well being of their players.  I think it is time for Brady to start clearing out his office.

I don't think it has anything to do with him being nice or not. I think you pegged it with the sentence before that. He is in over his head. I don't think he is malicious. I just think he's not smart/good enough to handle that job.

I agree. I hate TTUN, but I NEVER want to see their players get hurt. In the end, we're all Americans, and members of the human race.

Shane has parents that care about him, and you have to think they have to be SO FRIGGIN PO'd at Hoke after Saturday. If I was Morris' parents, I'd think about him transferring to one of the Directional schools up there.

That is a pretty excellent article. It is just far beyond Xs and Os at this point. Remember when all the TTUN fans were ignoring the fact he had a losing record as a head coach in smaller conferences? Suddenly they all think that shows he was never a good fit.

I was surprised that in all the discussion on Mgobleah about whether Hoke knew or didn't know his QB was staggering about, no one mentioned the lack of a headset.   This is another of oh, I dunno, 1000  reasons why head coaches wear headsets.   Because at field level, it CAN be difficult to see exactly what happened on a play in it's entirety.

Does anyone here think his boys in the booth would have not told Hoke that Morris was staggering and that he needed to come out?

Keep clapping Brady.  Your fan base will be doing that when you are fired.  I don't think you make it to Halloween.

HS

No matter how bad  they are now and no matter what the final record is, we (OSU) will be very fortunate to beat them, they will play inspired, obsessed football, something most under dogs do against OSU, and something OSU can't seem to duplicate. e.g. last season's game with them.

The thing that is even more mind boggling thing is the game wasn't close. Why risk injury to the player when you the games out of hand? Now I don't condone him leaving him in there regardless, but he can't even argue that he was focused on the game, or that Shane Morris didn't want to come out to win the game.

What if you don't hear YOLO anymore because everyone who use to say it died?

I honestly believe hoke is really confused - I don't know if he knows what the truth is with the injury to Morris or what actually happened. He hasn't seemed sure of himself for quite some time. He will keep coaching - hoping for the best but realizing his best days coaching this team is behind him.

I think a great deal is riding on the Rutgers game for *ichigan. TTUN went from a favorite of 1 point to being a 3 point underdog. What happens if that TTUN does regroup and lays it on Rutgers? Hoke might be kept until the end of the season IMO. If Rutgers pulls off the win, Hoke will be fired on the bus.
