Ahh, Brian Windhorst. Gravytrained LeBron into a job at the PD, then again to a gig at ESPN (that awful, awful Heat Index). LeBron decides to return to Cleveland and Windy either had no clue or was on vacation that week. No way he gets a job in Cleveland, I'll be looking for his b/r listicles soon.
Also, hatin ass sharks loves him some Spurrier. No filter whatsoever on that man.
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster...
Glad you ended with the Spurrier sentence, otherwise I was going to check to see if I had a stroke or something. The first paragraph makes nonsense to me. No offense. I hope it's not me, a bum foot and back is bad enough. Losing the mental edge I have would totally suck.
Nothing says "You're a Loser" more than owning a motivational poster about being a Winner.

I think you mean Eleven Dubgate.
In any other industry, there would be zero issue with Windhorst's leveraging his past experience to move from a local paper beat to a national tv/online entity. And yet, because of petulance and LeBron and ESPN reasons (the latter two fall under the umbrella of the first), here we are.
"I'm mad at a sportswriter for taking a huge career step up" is not an argument to take seriously.
The Deadspin article about LeBron (linked above) is itself about an ESPN fluff piece authored by Brian Windhorst, who (in my opinion) is known in Cleveland/Akron for riding LeBron's coattails to higher and higher profile writing jobs. Wherever LeBron goes, Windhorst is a few steps behind him (and has been since James was in grade school). When he announced his return to Cleveland, it appeared that Windhorst, his pet reporter, had no idea. It will be interesting to me to see if Windhorst is now out of the loop and has to step out on his own for once and do some actual reporting, rather than just acting as a PR shill for James.
And Denny, it's hard to knock Windy's hustle, other than by wishing that reporters move up in the industry on the strength of their writing, rather than their ability to gather scraps at an athlete's table. Not mad at him, just dont respect him as a journalist.
How do you think Scott Van Peezy got to ESPN and is now one of their most prominent anchors? Two words: Tiger Woods..
He was in the right place at the right time. Rode the Tiger wave all the way from a shot caller on the Golf Channel to the top and I'm sure he's not the only example.
Good for both of them, cheer up; you'll live longer..
there was no golf channel before Tiger...it was created to show Tiger reruns....
hmmmmmmm..........and I could have sworn that Howard Cosell used his relationship with Cassius Clay (Mohammad Ali) to go from a small sports radio show to being on the ABC Monday Night Football team.
most reporters become who they are because they hitched their wagons to a star, or a highly interesting person, and then get the big time jobs because of it. Windhorst might have gone this far on the back of Lebron but he is trying to cover more than just Lebron. On all the ESPN shows he was also the person they talked to about Carmelo. Yes they also talk to Chris Brousard, who I think is equally mediocre as a reporter but he is a former player so he gets the gig, but Windhorst isn't just reporting on just Lebron.
and its true Windhorst didn't know for a fact that Lebron was coming to Cleveland, but he did guess it would be Cleveland and he did provide inside info as to why he believed so. I wouldn't be surprised if he did know that Lebron was coming back as soon as Lebron (who also didn't know for a fact he was coming back until a few days before his decision. I mean come on, the guy was torn himself too) decided himself. I'm sure Windhorst gets told stuff that he can't share. He even busted on Pay Riley for spilling news about Mrs. James being pregnant with a girl. Windhorst knows when to say stuff and when not too, and I think that is WHY he is Lebron's boy.
I will also add that I did think it was odd that Lebron didn't have Windhorst publish that letter on ESPN instead of the guy for Sports Illustrated. That does prove Sharks point that Windhorst might not be THEE guy for Lebron as much as he used to be, but I still think Windhorst is in there.
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
Lots of words...
Couple of things; first there has been a lot of speculation from multiple sources in the know (Windhorst included) that Lebron knew he was going to leave the Heat over two years ago, and that then as soon as they lost the finals he knew when. I don't buy that he didn't know, I'm not sure why the holdup, but I don't for one second believe it took that long to decide.
Second Lee Jenkins is his boy, has been since high school when Windhorst wasn't any kind of a big deal to anyone. Lebron has made public comments about how much he likes Brian Windhorst, and how he considers him a friend. But if there's a Lebron story of this magnitude that's going to be broken in that way Lee Jenkins would have gotten every single one of them since he was a junior at St V.
I don't think Windhorst knew based off of anything that Lebron's people had told him, I think that's why he said over and over again even minutes before the story broke that he believed Lebron would choose the Cavs, but it was a guess because nobody who he trusted was saying anything to anyone.
I believe Lebron and his 3 member "inner circle" knew, I bet his mother, his wife, Dwyane Wade, Pat Riley, and Lee Jenkins (and I think they said 3 other people at SI) knew. That's it, they didn't want a solid source ruining the story, so they didn't tell anyone. Dan Gilbert didn't even know until about 30 seconds before the story was posted.
everybody knew Lebron wanted to go back to Cleveland. that wasn't speculation. but the when was not decided right after the finals. Come on! I believe it was down between only Miami and Cleveland, but he didn't know for sure like that.
and yes Windhorst did say nobody was saying anything and nothing was leaked, but he did give hints as to why he thought Lebron would go to the Cavs. You are telling me reporters never lie? He said there are reasons to believe so, based on stuff that the general public didn't know. just because Windhorst was saying that doesn't mean he wasn't hearing stuff.
and come on, you seriously believe Windhorst didn't speak directly to Lebron at all during the whole time? Windhorst had to have been in the know on something, any reporter in his position would find a way. Lee Jenkins knew, as we know now, and he didn't leak anything. You are telling me that Windhorst can't keep a secret but Lee Jenkins can? Windhorst said he knew about the pregnancy, but he knew Lebron wanted to announce that. why would Windhorst know that intimate detail, but have no clue to where Lebron is going? he knew more than letting on.
Hell, even Ryan Rusillo says he heard the weekend before that it was going to be Lebron to Cleveland but he didn't say anything because he didn't want to risk saying something he wasn't 100% on (he said it after the announcement). It was going around, but people kept it pretty hush. They just said they were speculating, but Broussard knew something. Windhorst knew something. ESPN was aware, I have no doubts. but as I said above, Lebron wasn't 100% himself until a few days before.
I still say that Lebron was seriously considering trying to play with Carmelo in Miami and wanted Bosh to accept the deal with Houston. If Carmelo signed with Miami, Lebron would have signed with the Heat for 3 more years, then gone back to Cleveland. Bosh had a lot to do with how it went those last few days. Lebron waited till that point to know what he wanted to do. Once he saw that the Heat were going to be basically the same team, the decision was easy.
even though I am not a fan, I do like Lebron in Cleveland more. He and Wiggins could be something amazing. I just can't believe Cleveland would give Wiggins up. Love is good but he is who he is. Wiggins can be something so much more.
No, he didn't guess it would be Cleveland, like litearly hours before the announcement he said he thought he would go back to Miami on a one or two year deal.
you are correct he said Miami on a two year deal, but he also said that Lebron is more inclined to go to Cleveland if Bosh doesn't take the Houston deal because Lebron wants Carmelo to come to Miami. I'm not sure what show he said it on, I think it was the SVP and Rusillo show.
point being though, I'm sure that Windhorst wasn't completely in the dark and the OP isn't aware of how much work Windhorst does to do his job. Its not like he sits around and waits for Lebron to call him with info and then he puts it on ESPN. I agree that I think Windhorst isn't the best reporter but I don't agree that he doesn't work.
Here is a pod that Windhorst explains what he does and why he is a reporter for ESPN. Also explains how his relationship with Lebron has developed. I think the OP should hear it because reporters work their asses off and have to have the trust of GMs, players and media. Windhorst didn't just get the job, he works at it.
Haha. When LeBron wrote that letter and Windhorst was obviously blindsided by it I imagined the following:
Windhorst at a swanky south beach hotel pool, fat belly on full display, two girls in bikinis by his side. Fat, cheshire cat grin on his face. Shades on, soaking in the sun. Suddenly, the cell phone rings. Windhorst listening and then the smile suddenly drops off his face. He shouts out the loudest "What the F***!; I told massa' never to go back to that cold shitehole!". We see his face now, gloomy and dejected. With the realization he's out of a job.
The soccer jerseys look sweet. I would definitely get me one of the Buckeye ones.
My second favorite is Penn State's. I think the designer did a great job of creating a jersey that would win a lot of best jersey polls while everyone else is screaming "they're too boring!".
Pray for potatoes with a hoe in your hand.
Buckeyes jerseys were awesome! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I even liked the jerseys for TTUN...
Like you said, all of these jerseys were good and would win polls
you like the TTUN jerseys with the Domino's pizza logo? I actually laughed because it is fitting to give them a fatty food for a sponsor! AKA Hoke!
again, the Maryland jerseys are probably the worst! they just can't get that crap right.
I agree with TTUN jerseys. I actually kinda like to Sparty one with the punisher logo on it. But OSU was the best IMO (bias in both ways; OSU fan and work at nationwide lol)
There is nothing more remarkable as learning to think better.
Those Maryland jerseys look like someone threw up the Crayola factory... Damn - those are FUGLY!!
What's round on the ends and high in the middle? Tell me if you know!
What's funny is all these schools have soccer teams...that have jerseys. But this dude based the soccer jerseys off of the football squads?
Anyhow, those are a hell of a lot cooler than the actual jerseys. I like how they kept local big businesses to their respective towns.
Perhaps I am a bit biased but I thought that tOSU's looked best. I'd give sporty second place. I kinda dig the oversized helmet.
Those PSU jerseys look like a uniform to be worn by a laundry service worker or a cook... I don't like them... Thought Sparty and Purdue's were pretty cool, though. Love teh OSU white one the best!!
Steve Spurrier may be one of my favorite all-time non-OSU coaches. Anybody, even if it's someone from within the SEC, who can piss off as many people in the SEC as he can, is good in my book.
Om one of my forays into SEC land yeasr ago, I saw a tee shirt that had this on the fron
Will Rogers never met a man he didn't like
and on the back
But he never met Steve Spurrier
I have always sorta liked him since then for the reasons you cited

Did I hear Saban right when he basically said "the infractions committee doesn't meet anymore, so if you aren't cheating you aren't trying"?
Spurrier is very much a 'tell it how it is' type of guy and you have to love that.
Not sure what the story of RG3 having his Reserved parking spot at an Arbys taken down has to do with Lynch but I'm going to go with it.

Yes but can you purchase Four Roses Single Barrel from that taco truck for three dollars ($3) per pour?
Columbus, your taco scene is sublime.
Denny lead me to the promised land, hell If I could find 4R Small Batch for $3 I'd be doing back flips like Joey Bosa
Denny, KevinJ or any other bourbon aficionados in the 11W community - when is Elijah Craig's 21 year old single barrel coming out? I was told November last year; then it was this summer, now...?! Anyway, may have to make the trek to C-bus to taste some of those tacos DJ pimped (and, yes, if they're pouring Four Roses Small Batch for $3 a glass, I may pitch a tent beside the bus - become a "Taco-Traveler" and follow them around... or would that be a "Taco-Head"?)!
That's a great gif - Joey Bosa is a straight up athletic freak!
Looks like Sep, I just want to get my hands on a bottle of EC12 Barrel proof. Here is a link for upcoming releases http://www.breakingbourbon.com/release-list.html
Ahhh. Thanks KJ! That's a great link, too.
Bakersfield in the Short North had it for $3 the night that Ramzy and I careened through last fall. I think it was a nightly special, but still.
Just bought a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel two days ago for the first time. SMOOTH!
Real fans stay for Carmen.
I watched that segment with Satan and Spurrier.. But missed the part about the whole recruit selling deal..anyone know what was said here?
Loved all but three: Michigan/Rugers/Wisconsin soccer kits are a bit too plain. If they were real, Iowa's is pretty boss. Kind of like Marylands too...
Yeah, I was a little jealous that Iowa Drew John Deere for their kit (no offense, Nationwide).
Oh, you were that kid.
Massey Ferguson Fo' Life!
Not everything runs like a Deere, only the best :)
Andy loves his farmin' equipment. I completely expected a comment from AV on the John Deere Iowa thing.
Our home kit (white one) has a nice touch with the Buckeye leaves on it. Agree that Iowa's and the Twerps are "pretty boss" - State Penn's and Sparty's aren't too bad either. TSUN, well, they still suck, so...
Just so everyone knows, there's no such thing as biomechanical engineering at Ohio State, the article must have meant biomedical engineering.
It's the OSU cyborg program code named "Simon"
Is this the successor to D.A.R.Y.L. ?
Shhh.. It's Top Secret.
Well that's because if they told you anything about it, they'd have to kill you.

Actually, their policies are worse than death...if they discover anyone who knows anything about it, they deport them to that state up north.
I didn't know they deported you, I just thought they black bagged you, and threw you into Hoke's meat locker.
He could be in the Mechanical Engineering Department and doing research with respect to biomechanics. Just as a person in the materials science and engineering department can do research on biomaterials. Neither of which have to be in the biomedical engineering department.

Love those uniforms, especially Maryland's. Now I'd like to see a slight variation to rugby which will come in handy when football finally abolishes the helmet.
DJ I have 8 words for you: Los Guachos BOGO al pastor tacos on Monday's.
They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them.
Los Gauchos al pastor is the best
No, don't do that to him! XD My ex got the worst case of food poisoning eating there once, lost 12 lbs over night from puking up everything he'd ever eaten his entire life. Not good.
Proponent of the ladies XS v-neck tee.
Hmmm....I could stand to lose 12 pounds...
I eat Guacho's tacos every Friday (I know, Taco Friday doesn't have the same ring to it, but...), and have never had anything but a delicious $5-6 lunch. $1.50 tacos al pastor, $2.00 fish tacos, they also have steak, shrimp, chicken and chorizo.
I think I'm gonna need to go today, I won't be able to stop thinking about them.

OBC's face with Nicky next to him is priceless.
I don't think I have a beef with Windhorst riding LeBron to the top of his career. I do, however, have a problem with his writing. I just can't stand the dude.
Man.. All you flat-landers must have money out the ass. For $9 I could feed my whole family tacos down here in the hills.
Those soccer jerseys are really nice. The should be real. I like the Ohio State ones (who doesn't) and Illinois, Maryland, and Sparty.
Ohio States soccer mock jersey's are great! Also like Nebraska's, Indiana's, PSU's, & MSU's. UM, of course, really does look the worst.
Get busy living.

The Michigan kit with dominos as the sponsor is so perfectly tacky I'm surprised Brandon hadn't already thought of this
Still not giving a damn for the whole state of Michigan.
In other news... Who could've guessed...

Ironic that the PSU sponsor is based in Pittsburgh.
Yea...Pat Tillman was NOT killed in the line of duty...More like he was killed by his own countrymen.
PT...A TRUE/REAL American Hero
I see your point and will add that the cover up was an egregious American tradgedy, but Pat Tillman most certainly was killed in the line of duty. He was on patrol in Afghanistan. Fratricide or not, that's the line of duty
The sad truth after the cover up. As far as good mexican food in scottsdale az. is Dos Gringos. The fish tacos with mango salsa is to fall on your sword for. This bar and restaurant is alot of fun if your not afraid of beautiful women. I have never seen more gorgeous women in one place in all my life.
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
He was most certainly killed in the line of duty, it just happened to be blue on blue. An example of not in the line of duty would be if he died in a car wreck while on leave. Yes, he is/was an American Hero. He was a very complicated, bright young man.
Edit: Dayton Buck, I should have read yours before posting. You're all over it.
How does Tacoriendo compare to Los Gauchos or Junior's? Those are the best tacos in Columbus for my money, but I will venture out east to try El Tacoriendo for sure.
Gauchos are pants, Los Guachos makes awesome food......
I would feel like if i tried this place, I would be cheating on Los Guachos. Juniors is good, but Los Guachos is by far my favorite taco place outside of AZ.
Cowboy actually..but an up vote for making me laugh
Remove the corporate logo and I'm all about the Ohio State jerseys!
Remove the corporate logo
Right! I don't want to see ads on jerseys (the big swoosh is bad enough) for football, and I don't want to see them on basketball or soccer jerseys either. Uniforms should be sponsored by the university's athletic dept, not some friggin' company.
Are the athlete's expected to shill for the sponsors: do M*ch*lin players have to deliver pizzas before or after their match?
Agreed! Don't know why our comments got down voted there, so I'll bump you back up!
Are the athlete's expected to shill for the sponsors: do M*ch*lin players have to deliver pizzas before or after their match?
Actually only after they graduate.
Los Guachos has the best pastor tacos in the city. Their green sauce is where it's at, and has actually been named in a national publication as a Top Taco truck (I think it was Maxim, but what the hay, right?) The truck was so awesome, they now have two brick and mortars. And you know the food is good and authentic when you go into a brick and mortar and every table is filled with mexicans.
The guy in the picture at the top must have escaped from "The Village".

“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
I don't get a lot of sleep but thanks to my new workout regime I don't need as much. The kids are all doing well. The 11-year old boy and 13-year old girl are off to horse camp this week so that will bring a bit of peace but also take away two of our helpers. The baby is 10 months old now and almost walking. Life is good.
Joe you can't be old enough to remember The Prisoner as I am, you must have watched reruns on some cable channel I presume.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
I vaguely remember seeing a few episodes in syndication here in the U.S. when I was a little kid. But it was enough to make me fascinated with all of the high-tech stuff they had. I rediscovered the show on YouTube a few years ago and then finally got the DVD set. It's still a great show even today.
I need to get me one of those OSU soccer jerseys.
Yes, Tillman was killed by friendly fire. He was also ready to speak against the war. He was not happy about it. It's a shame his name is leveraged by the military now.
The military, like any other corporate entity, will get out of their people what they can. That he was a celebrity of sorts, adds a special dynamic, but is really nothing new. When baseball was king in the 30's, 40's and 50's, plenty of baseball stars left to serve in WWII and Korea. Vietnam had its slew of celebs. A difference is Pat put himself in a direct combat arms rolls vs. a more PR relegated role as many celebs have done. Friendly fire is certainly unfortunate. His sacrifice affects the general population more because you feel you knew him thru his football escapades. My organization lost a 25 year old Nurse in Afghanistan this year who was very special to us. She was bright, articulate, selfless. She died so literally others could live. Her loss was strongly felt amongst her team and coworkers, and she did get some print due to being a female, but of course nothing on the level of a man who left millions on the table to serve his country. Both are deserving of honor and gratitude from a nation which largely has spent the past 13 years of war in the mall and watching Kardashian's.
DJ, thanks for the link to the article about male entitlement. When women say some men "just don't get it," this is part of what we don't get. I was confused for years, in part because men don't talk about enough about relationships for young men to understand how to do them. Stories like this help us to get a clue.
I have a masters degree in Civil Engineering, my little brother has his undergrad in Biomechanical Engineering, and is attending UC this year for med school. I can tell you, looking at some of his text books I had no idea what he was doing. Props to Greg!
