Nike almost pulled it off, until they include that Douchebag Alabama red helmet. Was that just a screw you, we can do what we want and we know it, so here's a red helmet? Jesus.
They chose a red helmet because in 1942, albeit leather, the helmets were solid scarlet.
Not a fan of the helmet either, but overall better than last year's I guess.
They're definitely not as bad as I was dreading they would be. I think last year's uniforms were better but overall not bad. I almost feel the helmets from last year should've been used. The red helmets with the red jerseys is just too much.
Also Bob Huggins is the "distinguished representative" for WVU and Michael Irvin for Miami. OSU chooses war hero they choose...that...tis most delicious
WTF? Distinguished rep? Irvin and Huggins???? Nobody from the U or WVU to better rep? Not hatin' on either but Huggins did his damage at Cinci, and Irvin? They could have done someone else. Sean Taylor maybe?
Nevermind as I am a complete dumb ass. I thought they meant honoring the rep. with the jersey style.
Regardless of what anyone's personal feelings on Irvin are, dude is THE U. That football program wouldn't be what it is today without him. I Like that we went old school and decided to honor a war-vet, but Nike would have made a huge mistake with anyone other than Irvin.
I wonder if they will put the buckeye stickers on the helmets
Doubtful, I believe there were no stickers last year.
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. ~ Bruce Lee
Absolutely love the lettering. The helmet is "eh", but the top/pant combo is gonna look quite sexy.
Wish they would have kept the longer sleeves with the three stripes to be consistent with the era, though.
Still not running the Rock and Roll? looks like a good choice, and I am wondering if it will happen or not w/ Hurricane Earl headed this way.
I don't have anything on my scheddy as of right now - thinking about the HAT 50k north of Baltimore in March. As of right now I'm nowhere near marathon shape (or half shape, really). How about you?
Rnr, then I'll finish up my Grand Prox season w/ 3 more races. I am also throwing in an 8K in December. I tanked my training to redo my kitchen so I am gonna be sucking wind on Sunday!
It'd be cool if they could incorporate the three stripes onto the dri-fit long sleeve under shirts they wear, that way it would look consistent with the era but would still be functional.
You're all going to hate me, but I like last years, but not this years.
So where's the camouflage-print base layer? I'd assume the base layer is a type of undergarment, think an Under Armor type shirt. Typically the base layer helps control body heat and perspiration. shir ? B..
What the hell is up with the 2010 throwback RED helmet? How many helmets in '42 had face masks?
The jersey and pants are good. Could do without the all red helmet.
Seems like about 90 to 95% against the all-red helmet. Put a wide, black stripe down it or something!
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
I could go for a gray stripe that is the same color as the pants and sleeve stripe. However, I am a fan of that rear decal.
Pretty dope. I like the back story a lot.
Yea on second glance-through, I dig the decal on the back of the helmet to go along with the back story. With or without buckeye decals, they're pretty dope.
They actually look pretty cool. I am still firmly against wearing them during the Michigan game. The pants are awesome with the block O.
Agreed, neither generation of these uniforms looks that bad standing alone, but it's stupid that they wear them against Michigan. I realize that Michigan is an Adidas school, but I can't see how that makes much difference.
I know I am in the minority but I liked the unis last season and I like these too. I even bought, mind you this is my first jersey ever, a Pro combat Sanzenbacher jersey just this summer.
I wanna go back to Ohio State ...
I was hoping for leather helmets, but I guess that is not in the plans.
Just imagine how intimidating that would be to opposing teams!
i feel like this uni is one helmet design away from being awesome. it's a solid uniform but not outstanding...no big complaints.
How firm thy friendship
Meh? I guess they are better than last year. The colors will really stick out. I just don't like doing it again scUM!
Feed the trolls
Whelp, brings a whole new literal meaning to "men of the Scarlet and Gray." I mean, that looks pretty much exactly like what they wore in 1942, so at least it's accurate. And, why not honor the history and tradition? We spend so much of our time bragging about it, why should we get peeved when they do something to show it off?
I think it's cool. Go Buckeyes!
red helmets = angry tomatoes !
Excited about these, I've done a complete 180 after seeing how good the uniforms looked last season.
I dig them, there is nothing I don't love about them. Love the story that goes along with it other than hey this looks cool, buy this different jersey.
Do we know when we will get to see the real uni's in a picture?
"I'm Willie Buckets, and I approve this message"
I see Spiderman Underoos in the jersey. Not sure why that doesn't bother me.
As long as we beat TSUN who cares right?
I don't hate these. In fact, I sort of like them. They even look like the 1942 unis, unlike throwbacks to the future.
Banned from ATO since June 3rd 2PMish PST
btw, got you guys some linkage on nikeblog.com.
I think these look badass, even the helmets. I agree it's a bit lame that we keep doing this against TSUN, but I could handle this for one game a year if it were closer to the middle of the season. The pants are especially kick ass. I think they'll make us look a little like football playing robots. And I can't think of a team out there that could score on a team comprised of robots.
I think what looked the worst from last year's throwbacks were the socks:
As long as they stay away from whatever that was, it'll look pretty sweet.
i disagree the socks were excellent. the same socks this year would make the jerseys really cool. i have to say i am all for exact replica throwbacks, against michigan or whoever. i am just glad we arent doing something really douchey like va tech. this at least is a past uniform.

I tend to agree with the red helmet seeming to be too much. But when you are honoring tradition you have to go all out! I think once we see what they look like in person they will surprise us...

I like the lettering alot, the red helmets ehhhh.. w/e. All I want to do is celebrate along side these jersey's on the field en route to a national championship.
I have to say, I'm not a fan of the piping. Other than that, they look pretty solid. The 1942 uni's were sharp, and I'm glad that they didn't mess with that look too much.
My thoughts on the unis? Ask Blackwell.
Lets play some footbaw!!!
I just hope the jerseys actually fit this year. I swear that we lost some yards last Michigan game from giving them a big flapping tent to grab onto for tackles.
I'm relieved about them hiding the camouflage under the jersey, but that raises the question: If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it . . . er, I mean, aren't the camos supposed to help hide the players, not the other way around? It's sort of like hiding a cameleon underneath a peacock.
Couldn't they have put one giant Buckeye stickers on one side of the helmets?
Whereas last year's uni's had an edgier feel (variety of colors, stripes, etc.) this year's looks pretty bland on paper and it reminds me of a poor high school team's uniform (or a jersey you can design on Madden 'XX). I appreciate that Nike is "paying" (LOL... getting paid!!!) tribute to Mr. Horvath and the 1942 team, this is 2010 and they could've added a few more wrinkles to spice up the 1942 design bit.
At the end of the day, who cares what our players are wearing while they're kicking scUM's a$$ <--- two more $$'s in honor of Nike..
Give that uniform the Silver helmet and it would be awesome. The all red helmet just looks too junior varsity.
I don't mind the helmet... but one of my favorite parts of The Game is seeing the masses of buckeye leaves on all of the starters' helmets. Even if they went back to the oversized stickers from the 70s (on the red helmets), I'd feel better about it. Just one more tradition that is getting pushed to the side (even if it is a newer tradition).
Do solid red helmet with a white-gray-white stripe and I would love the uniforms!
There should be something that breaks up that solid red.
I love the back story and reasoning behind the uniforms. Would like the gray helmets or at least a gray strip down the center of these (if it wasn't for the story.) Didn't care for the helmets or socks y'all used last year for the game.
This is pretty cool though.
Overall not bad. Wouldn't mind seeing a grey stripe on the helmet, but as long as they don't put a number on the helmet, I think they're all right.
just saw the live stream of the unveiling, and after seeing the uniforms again, I hate them.
I do think I would prefer the stickers on the helmets, since it's the last game of the season and all.

They are worse than last years abomination.
