Does Cowens Recruitment Change Now That Cooper is Comming Back?

Do you mean Cowan? He's already committed to OSU. I doubt they would cut him loose.

Agreed. And Cowan is a DT, not DE (right?)

Ohio State wanted to bring in another DE but didn't look like Baron was coming here so, if anything, Cooper staying is a huge boost and they can address it in the next class

I think he could be a DE or a 3-tech, like Cornell and Jones. And regardless, Cooper being here in '20 shouldn't really affect the '20 class much.

Cooper coming back does make a difference it takes a spot away in the class.

Fair enough. I don't think it affects Cowan though.

There was a time a qb, 2 rb and a dl player were going to be the targets to fill the class out. Coopers return may mean 1 rb or no dl player either way one less spot to fill unless they fudge the numbers and they find a way to make room.

Won't matter at all. OSU is going to lose 23-25 players to graduation and/or the draft even with Cooper returning. There are currently 24 incoming scholarship recruits (Seibert is gray shirting). Lets add Stroud and a wild card (2nd RB, Flowe, Xavier Carlton, a late elite flip). That takes us to 26 scholarship spots with 23-25 players leaving.

At least 2-3 players will transfer (we have a few potential grad transfers). Vimahi may leave for two years to go on his mission. This will not be particularly difficult to hit the 85 scholarship limit on the head. DE Xavier Carlton just visited so OSU is actually interested in adding to the DL, not subtracting from it. There is no issue with Cowan being in the class.

Cowan would have to show an awful lot to even get playing time next season.  Zach Harrison is on another level.  I would view Cowan more like Noah Potter, who will be very good, just needs to put in some work.

I don't think LJ gives scholarships to kids he doesn't envision eventually making an impact.

Agree but with Young and Cooper leaving they need bodies and Cowan is one of the better ones in this class. Now Cooper is staying the need is not as great is pretty much my point. Sorry I didn't see he is on board missed that like the spelling of his name.

Next year is really irrelevant for Cowan. They aren't bringing him in next year in hopes of him contributing. They are more so bringing him in to contribute in years 2, 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary). Not saying he won't be able to contribute year 1, he just may.

Cooper will be on the roster, but can you count on him to be healthy for 15 games?  Never short change depth on the DL, IMO.

I got a little worried when I read this headliner... Cooper is coming back??? LOL I got the shivers from that statement!! In all fairness.. he was a good recruiter, but those Michigan losses.. ouch!!

We didn't lose the game.. we just ran out of time.  Vince Lombardi

I am sure Cowan appreciates you calling him not elite. I am also sure he appreciates you suggesting he might transfer out or decommit because Cooper is coming back.

Just repeating what the experts said about him and when did he commit because I missed it? tia

Beginning of October. 247 doesn't like him but he's still a top 200 player in the composite.

Yeah. Thread doesn’t make sense.

If he can stay healthy Cooper is big to have back. It does impact recruiting but not anybody onboard. Just makes it less of a dire need to get a DE this class with a few coming in next year. They probably would still take another if they had the right guy this class though.

It impacts recruiting, but impacts development more, buying the staff time to bring him along.

I rarely ever say this but.... this is a bad take. Of course they take him. He is an incoming freshman and Cooper will be a 5th year senior. You have to have depth.

HS

He was at the game on Saturday. I don't think they'd let a kid come if they were going to deny him next month.

I’ve posted this before, Cowan is a take, why do some of you keep going back to this? I scouted him recently and the year before, kid is going to be fantastic under Mick and LJ.

Every low 4 star and 3 star is not elite, only 5 stars and you obviously can't just trust Lj on everything.

So in the end cowan is obviously out of the class.

We had been after Cowan for months and he committed a month ago.. What the f is the poster smoking?   I could see if he was talking about Xavier Carlton since he just visited for Penn state but why would you ask a question about a guy already committed?

Jacolbe Cowan won’t be competing w/ Cooper for snaps next year-Coop is a 5th year rush end, Cowan will probably slide inside after Mariotti is through with him.

Dave Cowens is pretty old, but Holtman still might be be interested in him.
