Best wishes and speedy recovery to all our wounded.
Hope some of these injured guys are available for PSU and ttun. Some positions are getting pretty thin on depth.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
More that we dont need these guys to beat RU.
Was secretly hoping Fields was on this list due to a hangnail or something.
"Because we couldn't go for three"
Exactly. So looking forward to hanging 70 on PSU. We should have a new JF Mother F---R clip!
When watching QB1 Justin Fields just seemed like a tough tough dude. A broken hand could barely keep him out.
agreed. but really - is there anyone out there who thinks olave shouldn't be starting?
Me. Macks got some beef on him so helps out more in the running game. Olave is also thriving coming in fresh for big plays, so stick with the vet until he messes up.
Edit: not doubting olaves blocking btw just know Macks closer to the Tmclaurin level
Olave is one of the top 2 wideouts on the team. Way more upside than Mack and is proving it.
for one thing Olave hasn't been met with much resistance from Mack as it seems he has been injured forever.
How much longer is Austin Mack supposed to be out? It'd be nice to get him back on the field.
"The height of human desire is what wins, whether it's on Normandy Beach or in Ohio Stadium." -Wayne Woodrow Hayes
Mack was available vs. Maryland but they didn't use him. I'm guessing it's probably the same. Might as well just continue to hold him out another week and get him back as healthy as can be for our stretch run.
Do you remember if Browning was available last week too?
"Medicine is not a science" - Leo Spaceman
If I recall, he actually played a play last week?
Thanks. Don't remember seeing him on the field.
Of all the players on the list, we need to get Baron Browning back ASAP (Chase Young excluded).
Why? Borland played great last week and ran down McFarland on the sideline on one play. He looked faster than I'd seen him in at least a year (could be he's thinking less like everyone else).
Same reason we want Chase back, because Browning is a monster
I also want him back but he is a backup. Chase doesn't make the mistakes Browning does.
Didn't mean to offend. Just wondering about Browning's status since I didn't remember him playing.
He played 1 snap. He has a groin injury
From the article:
Browning will not be available on Saturday after being on the field for only one play last weekend against Maryland.
And it was outside LB.
Thought I saw Mack in street clothes during the Keandre Jones group pic.
The team doesn't disclose what the injuries are, nor do they offer a timetable for return...sucks.
Yep. Double edge sword.
A lion sleeps in every man, dissatisfaction moves him, complacency keeps him asleep.
Saunders OSU career is over. He reinjured his knee, and is declining the option of applying for a sixth year.
He will participate in Pro Day and see if a NFL opportunity exists for him.
Curious, where are you seeing him decline a 6th year option? Saunders unfortunately is not going to impress any scouts with his numbers. I was really rooting hard for Saunders, he was such a reliable option for us last year.
One of my coworkers is close to CJ's family and has heard similar things. Said he's considering it but is leaning towards not coming back.
I'd rather see CJ get his last snaps as a Buckeye in their 15th win of the year. It sucks to see him hobbling on the sidelines.
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
No information of why defeats any purpose of this unavailable list. Why the cover-up?
Love it.... Rest... Come back fresh/renewed... And annihilate PeeYew St & ttun
Feel bad for Crowley. He was in a position to get a lot of carries here.
Thinking the same. Bring on Steele.
More likely to see McCall
Yeah, I sort of thought Steele was red shirting at this point in the year. McCall played well last week in clean up duty.
We'll see both of them. Hell, Amari McMahon might even get in a few carries in this game. Steele has only played in a couple games this year so we can still play him without burning his RS.
I doubt he's on the travel roster
Will Alabi qualify for a medical redshirt? Seems like he’s been out since Nebraska.
Nope. He's played in six games, last appearing against MSU.
I hope Mack, Cooper, and Alabi haven't been lost for the season. They said Coop was warming up before the Wisconsin game but shut it down with something so I am hoping they are just letting him rest. Having all three back are going to be important for the stretch run.

More reps for Berry at DE...?
I think so and I think he will get a sack too flashing his insane athleticism.
Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.
Berry getting a sack and a TD pass in the same game would be over the top awesome!
That's his natural position. I hope he does well. He sacrificed for the team until it brought in legit TE's.
I still think Billy Price should've stayed a DT.
Behold the chunky whoop ass.
More reps for Berry at DE...?
Giving Berry reps at DE makes me wonder if Mattison et al are drawing up packages to use his athleticism as a walk-out or twisting LB in conjunction with an already unfair Rushmen package. Similar to the onside kick, it's just one more headache opposing coordinators will have to game plan for.
"It's always scotch-thirty on my island."
I don't think you can jump to those conclusions yet. Anyone even mildly banged up is going to rest against Rutgers.
Next week we'll know who's REALLY injured. If you're not playing against PSU, you're not playing at all.
Have heard some rumblings that Cooper may be shutting it down for the year and using a RS - if you look at his game log, he's only participated in 3 games so far this year. Could play in 1 more and still use RS.
If true, I personally think this is huge - while you have some DE depth for next year, you don't have the bonafide star that we've grown accustomed to. Having Cooper will more than solidify that group and add even better depth.
Big if true. This would help next year for sure.
I can't see any way Cooper is going to voluntarily shut it down if he's healthy enough to play with the games on deck and a potential spot in the CFP
Next year, Coop might provide veteran leadership in that room but he’s yet to flash anything on the field and I doubt another year will help. How many career pressures/sacks based on total opportunities does he have?
No one is sitting out (unless really injured) for gaining an extra year down the road. This team is winning a Natty this year!!!
Actually next year but just by 7 - 10 days.
Any chance Cooper redshirts this year? I don’t think he has played more than 4 games this year and hasn’t already redshirted (freshman year).
EDIT: Sorry.......I see the same is being asked/discussed above. My bad.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
":Ohio State listed wide receiver Kamryn Babb, safety Ronnie Hickman and defensive tackle Ronnie Hickman as unavailable"
Ronnie Hickman a clone ? Twins ?
How about just sit the entire 1st string? I mean there are some players that need to play just for the reps but really, they could all sit after the 1st quarter and we'd still cover the spread.
I bleed scarlet...literally
Yeah, really the worst thing that could happen is losing a star player against Rutgers. I say let the first team score like 35 points and then consider sitting them. In reality, they'll probably play the entire first half, but I think the quicker we can get our guys off the field, the better.
35 point lead triggers a running clock and half priced beers......
The pain of discipline or the pain of regret, take your pick
I was going to make a joke about drunk Rutgers fans but then I remembered that there wont be any in the stadium...
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
Yeah. Was talking with people and I would be shocked if we don't see starters on the bench in the 2nd quarter. Fields in particular. Just not worth getting anyone dinged up and honestly we have had a lot of dings this season.
Not that it matters but the backups can probably cover the spread.
Ive seen some predictions where we wont score 50, but will win big and take starters out after 1Q when score is in 20s or 30s to 0.
20 isn’t even remotely close enough to pull starters. They will play minimum a half regardless of score. They have to stay in game shape.
Tua's injury today shows why this isn't always a good idea. He got hurt on a meaningless drive in a game that was already decided.
I really hope Browning is being held out as a precaution. I'd love to see him out there next week, when shit gets real.
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
No doubt. We know Chase is back and Baron is [potentially] the next most impactful.
Always nice to have all your backups available.
I'd imagine most of these guys are out as a precaution/let's get them another week of rest type of deal. It sucks this game is on the road, and only having 74 guys available to travel when they played 86 last week. With Crowley out, McCall might have 200 total yards in this one, because I can't see Dobbins or Teague playing at all in the 2nd half. Chambers definitely in line for a large workload as well if he's not being managed for a RS.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
I hope you're right.
I agree about Crowley, because he's already played in 5, and he could have gotten a hell of a work load. DMC is going to get a lot of work.
this one is by far the most concerning to me
Depth is a many splendored thing.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
At this point they have to be thinking about a redshirt for Cooper and Mack.
Mack isn't able to redshirt, he has already played more than four games this year.
Ah that sucks, thought it was right at 4.
Seven. He's well over the line.
Mack is a player who would’ve benefitted from Red Shirting.
However, he came in and Meyer gassed his ability up, spoke in coach speak, and implied that he was WR1 above the guys that were already on the Roster. This was doing a time when the masses were badly down on Campbell, Dixon, and McLaurin.
Mack lost his black stripe quickly, the Media asked and Meyer answered and expectations shot through the roof. He showed glimpses where he caught the tough balls (often getting injured doing so), but would get a case of the yips with the gimmes balls.
Suffered his biggest setback with the injured foot, and a push to play. Wish the young man the best, but his experience is a cautionary tale (to me) of labeling kids too early as boom or bust.
Sometimes the difference between player A and B, may just be opportunity. Because there are definitely times when Meyer got enamored with a guy, and not so much with another, thereby granting great opportunity to one and limiting that of someone else.
I agree with you. Lot of hype coming in and has been a decent player, but not much more. But the catch against Michigan in 2017 from Haskins will be one that will be talked about for a long time.
Mack has played in too many games for a redshirt. As for Cooper, it depends on a couple of things: if he even wants a redshirt, or if the team (and Cooper himself) would prefer to be on the field to play a role in a possible national championship run, if that's possible for him.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I'm not sure its a lock the staff would want to keep him another year. He has 5.5 career sacks (almost half of which came in a single game against Illinois two years ago). I'd rather use that scholarship on an incoming freshman.
I hope Matthew Jones’ injury isn’t anything serious. He has played well at times in backup duty and could fight for the starting LG spot, depending on if they kick Josh or Harry our to guard. Stinks to see Crowley out, as well.
With Davon and Landers leaving next season, a healthy Taron Vincent would do wonders in replacing their production.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I feel bad for the seniors like Cooper and Mack. Hopefully they are close to being back.
I agree with many that hopefully a few of these guys are being held out another week for precautionary reasons more than anything. It would be good to have Browning, Cooper and Mack back in particular for the PSU game. Crowley being out sucks for him, could have had a big game this week.
On depth chart Alabi listed as 2nd team LT??????
He's been the second team LT all season. NPF backs up Branden Bowen at RT. Alabi I believe was hurt in prior weeks which is why Dawand has been seeing the field more frequently.
Is this "load management"? Just kidding! I believe these moves to be in the best interest of the team. Justin Fields and J.K. should be out by the second quarter and then go from there. Let the backups shine and get some stats.
Browning is the guy I can't wait to see get back out there. But it's good to keep all these guys out this week to rest up. We will need all of our depth when we play PSU and TTUN.
Fields of Dreams
Next week is the meal that will take us to the big ten title game...michigan is our dessert for how well we have cleaned our plate this year!
You could make a heck of team just from that list of players...Go Bucks
So I guess we're going to see a lot of Steele Chambers and Demario McCall in this game with Crowley out. Come on down fellas.
Isn’t it nice to not have to go into panic mode when a starter or two are injured and can’t play for a week or two? Next Man Up U.
Man, I feel for Austin Mack. Just a hard-luck career for a guy who seemed to have a sky-high ceiling.
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Does this mean more will stay home and let more walk-ons travel? Love league determined "off weeks" before a tough run.
Big 10 championship
There's not going to be a single quarter of rest for the starters for the remainder of the year. So I'd sit anyone who even has a sore pinky finger against Rutgers. Everyone needs to be as healthy as possible because it's war starting next week.
I kind of expect to blow PSU out next week.
And if Minnesota is undefeated, that Big 10 Championship is officially "Quarterfinals"
2 Big Ten teams in CFP
Well, if they make the playoff they will have a month of rest anyway. Or a monthish.
I have a feeling a lot of guys will be feeling much better next week.
Pain of Discipline
Pain of Regret
Take Your Pick
Hoping Browning and Mack are getting rest and protection against injury more that being injured. They are valuable and we could use them. We look forward to your return. Mr Cooper is definitely missed as well. Last regular season games will hopefully see us near 100%.
Naturally, there is plenty of reason to suspect many of these players who are being kept out of action this Saturday is due to predominantly precautionary reasons. But we have no way of knowing for sure.
Just wondering if a more connected 11W staffer or two might have some idea - but perhaps have been sworn to secrecy - so they can't share it with us.
In any case, I have a feeling we're going to see a "suddenly" nearly fully healthy lineup next week -
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement. - Will Rogers
Agreed. Of course the staff is going to exercise precaution with players with real injuries. To assume that coaches won't play mostly healthy players just to make sure they are 100% for the two-game stretch run is kind of hard to swallow. These guys practice their asses off for Saturdays; if they're healthy enough to play, they're playing.
I'm fairly certain me and 10 of my fat ass friends could beat Rutgers by at least 1.
There's been a lot of talk about how this team has no weaknesses, how they've looked practically invincible, how it's hard to see that they could lose.
This article details exactly how we could get pre-maturely humbled this year. We still have a lot of healthy, available talent. But not near as much as what we started with. There seems to be a perception that against PeeSU and TTUN because they should be close, physical battles for us that our top starters will be all that matter anyways. Not even close to true. We are coming up on games where missing a top middle linebacker, one of our best DEs, one or two of our two-deep OLs, one of our most experienced WRs, could be critical. Hope to GOD these guys get healthy quickly.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
I am leery as well, we have actually had a high number of starters and or two deep miss games so far this season. When you combine the amount of games we have already rested starters in the second half it is unlikely our teams 2 deep has played anywhere near the number of snaps they played in the previous 4 years! I am hopeful that we stay clear of the injury bug from here on out and extremely excited to see what our roster and staff can do against Penn State and those that follow!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
Does anyone know what’s going on with Vincent? He was the top ranked DT coming out of high school and you hear nothing
Believe he had shoulder surgery at the beginning of the year.
Hope they can get a few of them back for next weeks game. A fair number of those guys have been out for long periods of time too. At least hoping for Browning to be available next week. Not that worried but still be good to have him back there. PSU has some speed with the WR group and may need that at the LB spot. Not that the other guys are slow or anything. Just good to have all hands on deck.
It is good to have all the silver bullets in the gun but they've used a DB in the middle at times to offset speed.
I know we have a lot of depth but it sucks seeing that many players unavailable.
Shame I thought Alabi had NFL potential but think these Injury my stop that journey for him.
Also hoping Hilliard and White are ready to be called upon as things move forward!
They should extensively play Chambers and McCall. There’s no point in risking an injury to Teague.
The prudent thing to do against Rutgers is to hold out players who are still nursing injuries, no matter the severity, giving them maximum time to recover and be more healthy for the stretch run, beginning with a critical, East division leading outcome contest against Penn State next week.
"Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it." - Woody Hayes
We have 12 out of our 85 scholarship players out for this game, thus leaving only 73 available. That means at least one walk-on is going to the game. Probably Woidke, and maybe a few more as there are a few scholie players are likely not on the travel squad.
Send the Earth Reverberating
Woidke is on scholarship. I know Hoover [emergency k/p), Robinson (emergency long snapper), Rossi and Xavier Johnson (both on various special teams units) will all travel.
What is up with Jonathan Cooper... Damn it, I was thinking this was his year to step up and shine, but he has been out quite a bit. Any chance of a medical redshirt?
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
damon arnette was out all game? good that he can rest up that wrist of his.
