At some point (probably after the Natty is safely in hand), the conversation about this Buckeye team is going to shift away from "is it the best college football team in the country?" to something like "is it the best college football team of all time?"
But they ain't played nobody, pawwwwwwwwwl!
It is easy to get excited about this team but I am also a believer in football karma. These same conversations were being made about the 2006 Buckeyes and we saw what happened to that team against Florida. Similar comments were made about the 2014 Bama team and karma bit them as well as a certain Miami team in 2002.
I know we are just fans talking but the football gods have a way of humbling the prideful.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Amen. Let's slow our roll a bit here.
This is a great and fun team to watch. Let's beat Penn State. Let's beat Michigan. Let's beat Minnesota. Then let's line 'em up again.
You don't get declared the best after 9 games.
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
Friday mornings, we don’t need someone , trying to take a whizz in our cereal. Let’s remember 2014
No, that 2006 team was not very dominant on defense. Go back and watch some of the games, sure we didn't give up a ton of points but we gave up a lot of yards in some games.
2014 Bama was not talked about as the greatest football team of all time either. They didn't have a very good offense that year, and we exposed their defense.
This 2019 buckeye football team would demolish 14 Bama and 06 buckeyes. If you thought the national title game was bad. This 2019 buckeye team would win something like 63-7 over the 06 team.
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
Plus one Philly, all day long. I've seen too many unbeatable Buckeye, ( and other teams), upset by lesser opponents.
I do think that this OSU team has a very high ceiling and is quite scary good. I don't care about stats and records of the past. They are in fact, the past. Rutgers, first.
I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes
100% correct PhillyNut!
I remember, like it was yesterday, the interviews with Larry Coker on ESPN back in 2002 before the NC game. He was asked over and over again, but wouldn't take the bait, about how bad Miami was going to whoop OSU's ass. But NOBODY else(unlike Larry)seemed to give OSU a chance in hell.
Don't get big heads. Stay humble and angry, Buckeyes.
By the way, I was just watching Fox & Friends, the morning show where they were on the street outside the studios doing the weather, and there were two older Buckeye fans there for the game vs. Rutgers. Pretty kewl.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
Hopefully, the players and coaches continue to have humble pie as a pre-game meal because any given Saturday...except this one
No, it was only idiot fans who thought 2002 Miami was unbeatable. This team really is historic in its dominance in a statistical and data-driven way. We as smart fans need to enjoy it while it lasts.
The team needs to stay hungry and humble, we can do whatever we want.
I've been open to accepting this may be the best tOSU team to be fielded. But I'm not going to lock in until it is done. It isn't about how you start, it is about how you finish. Ultimately, I wouldn't want to be on the tracks in front of this team though, they seem to be out to eat some souls. I feel this is the meanest team I've ever watched play. I don't mean it from a violence stand point, just what they will do at will. After kicking that onside kick last week, I knew we had the meanest damn coach. And I love this edge. They feel hungry and angry every week.
That I can both spell and pronounce Biakabutuka means we can shelve this best ever bullshit until the season is over.
Preach, brother. The two OSU seasons this one most reminds me of both ended without a title. Enjoy, savor, but remember that we aren’t done.
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Biakabutuka aka the boggie man. I still have nightmares.
and there's also 2016 clemson - 2017 alabama and 2018 clemson. being a great team doesn't mean failure. i'll take the buckeyes position over, any other team in the country right now.
80-0 sounds about right. I don't think there is a spread big enough for this game. I guess I look forward to see more Chug and Hoak. Jameson Williams is also fun to watch when the 2's come in. Thats about all there is to say about this one though.
I enjoy every second of Buckeye football no matter the opponent as long as we are winning. The season is too short. I love the blowout games cause I dont get heartburn watching. Although I havent had to worry this year.
Imagine being Rutgers, surviving to the backups, and seeing Dawand Jones come off the bench.
- OSU ISE -+- Premium Banter -+- OH48 80k -
Rutgers players, "Coach I need to sit."
Rutgers head coach, " Why, what's going on?"
Players, "Number 79 looks like he might eat me. I have no intention of being anyone's pre-game feast."
So here's a thought experiment:
Assuming LSU beats a bad Ole Miss team by a comfortable margin while also giving up 25-30 points because they have a Big 12 defense, let's call it a 42-28 final score, is there any possible margin by which the Buckeyes could beat Rutgers and retake the #1 ranking this week? I'd say probably not, but maybe if we get into triple digits they'll move us up.
Just from seeing josh Myers on the field, if he was abducted by aliens, that’s bad news for all of us because that means we have been getting probed long before that point. Big man isn’t gonna let ET take him up in the ship without a fight
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I'm sure the Predator would have a say. If I were an alien this is the one football team I would just watch from a distance.
Plot twist, Chase Young is actually not from this planet and he’s come to take over.
I for one am happy to welcome our new alien overlords then.
So they plan on sacking humanity one by one. I volunteer as tribute.
New SpaceJam - Aliens abduct a member of an NCAA football team and then the team goes to get him back in time for the game.
Not gonna lie, if they remade Space Jam with Buckeyes and in the original style I would probably watch that every day.
We are so blessed to have such wonderful young men on our football team such as Harry Miller, C.J. Saunders, Chase Young, et al...
*squints at Chase Young picture*
is.... is that Kareem Walker?
I once played touch football and scored a touchdown
I'm glad at least some are acknowledging the fact that the line last year was not that good at run blocking. You can be big and strong with great technique, and ineffective when you are 6'7 and trying to get low on the interior.
What a great time to be a Buckeye fan. It is like the 05 and 06 team together, without early NFL turnover.
Feel badly for CJ Saunders. Love his story of persevering as a walk-on, making the team and then getting a scholarship and being voted a captain. Hope he's able to get that medical redshirt and come back next year better than ever.
Get better, young man!
"Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else." - Judy Garland
Yeah I was looking forward to watching him this year. No matter what you can guarantee he will be successful in the next stage of his life, hopefully back in the slot next year.
Don’t feel bad yet, his story isn’t done.
Neither must be the Clowns n Bake. 21-7 W against the toothless squeelers.
But DL Myles Garrett looks finished.
Myles Garrett looking at suspension for Steelers-Browns fight: does he deserve record punishment for helmet swing ?
https://es.pn/2XhGBhk via @ESPN
Pouncey, "...he needs suspended for rest of the season." Pouncey backed his qb with kicking Garrett in the head.
Owning. skunk. weasels. Is. Tradition.
DV's from iron city butthurts.
I'm a Cleve. life'r, but this Garrett thing is sick.
I don't care and never watched the NFL but watched the clip this morning, looked like the QB tried to rip Garrett's helmet off and the man just went berserk. The QB needs to see some punishment there also.
It was an IRL "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong". The QB Got up, without a helmet, and went after Garrett. No excusing Garrett's swinging the helmet, but let's not act like this was unprovoked. It takes two to tango.
Regardless of what the QB did it was terrible look for Garrett. There were 5 seconds left in the game and you were winning by two TDs, just walk away (realistically what physical threat does Mason Rudolph pose to Myles Garrett). Now what should be a cause for celebration for the team for earning a quality win against a divisional opponent has turned into the League vilifying Garrett and the Browns as a dirty team (which is ironic considering who they were playing). If Rudolph attacks Garrett and Myles doesn't respond to it all Rudolph looks like the jackass in this situation.
Same here, Beep, I don't watch the NFL, but saw the news clip.
Garrett and Rudolph get into it. The Steeler #66 DeCastro is trying to separate the two fighters, while #53 Pouncey is punching at Garrett. Then when DeCastro smothers Garrett on the ground, Pouncey jumps on swinging his fists and kicking the prostrate Garrett. While one was trying to prevent the fight, the other is viciously contributing.
Suspend Pouncey for the season!

The NFL announced Friday that the Cleveland Browns defensive end has been suspended for the rest of this season, including the playoffs should the Browns make it, and will have to meet with the commissioner's office before being reinstated in 2020.
The Internet Archive is doing a wonderful service for us all. As something of an audiophile myself I have digitized some items in my collection and it is quite labor intensive without the computers they are using. It is just great that old recordings are being “saved” in this manner for current and future generations.
1944 Army isn’t a bad comp to have no doubt. Six more to go to make true history. O-H

Looking forward to seeing the whole game tomorrow of course, but especially the second half when the starters are on the sidelines. (If they play that long.)
Isn't the traveling squad only 65 players? That would mean there isn't even a full third string available, Oh My!!!
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
I think its 74.
Send the Earth Reverberating
Yes, 74 in the B1G, and I expect all of them to play on Saturday.
Thanks B298 & TMac.
Not likely evenly distributed by position, but that's enough for full first, second, and third string plus multiple kickers. punters, and long snappers. Would expect all to play if healthy! (Saw Saunders was traveling.)
It gives some sort of satisfaction to see most all of the players excel in these game. And th real game time has to be invaluable on many levels!!!
Bring on the game!
I put iTunes on my laptop back in 2007 when I bought an iPod nano. The 5th generation a short time later replaced it. It is my preference.
Utilizing “mixed tape” laws regarding copyright, you are allowed to make digital copies of your CDs. You just can’t profit from it. I don’t. And the program iTunes (and others) uses error correction when importing the music. It is just holes in the disc, making the on/off signal that is digital. Scratches on the surface don’t effect the on-off function.
I like my digital library.
Yep, it's my own music from my running around days. Puts me in a good place. Nothing like old time rock and roll.
Or Ohio State who was also 9-0 and was named a national champion by the National Championship Foundation and the Sagarin Ratings; we just don't claim it. Under Bama rules, it counts.
Army also was able to recruit top talent from other schools to play in 1944, which gave them a bit of an advantage.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
Every college football roster was decimated by men leaving to serve in WWII. Teams like Iowa Pre-Flight, El Toro Marines, Randolph Field, and Great Lakes Naval Training Station (coached by former Ohio State coach Paul Brown) were created and played traditional college teams (and all of those teams finished in 1944’s Top 20). Army not only kept its roster but likely benefited as well by attracting great athletes who might’ve gone to another college but chose to become Army officers instead.
Fun fact: West Point’s class of 1944 graduated on June 6. Among its members was a young man named John Eisenhower, whose father was otherwise preoccupied overseas that day and unable to attend the ceremony and partake of the festivities.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
Fun fact: During WWII, the service academies began accelerating their graduation cycles in order to get more officers in the field (or on the water, as it were) more quickly. There are actually two groups of Midshipmen who call themselves "Class of 1941": those that graduated in February and those that graduated in June. The classes after them crammed four years of college into three and graduated a year early, until the war ended. Then things went back to normal.
We were driving to a game in Annapolis around 2006 or so, when we saw an older man walking to the stadium from Annapolis (it's about a mile or so to the stadium) with some alumni gear on. We pulled over and offered him a ride. Turned out he was from the Class of 1942/41, who had been accelerated to three years in the middle of his time at Annapolis. Fascinating 10 min car ride talking to him.

Recruiting took on a whole new meaning for that team; you get a commitable offer that you can't refuse. Or, to paraphrase Miami's coach, "it's like recess, where the other team gets the first six million picks." Makes for a pretty good team.
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
1944 Army isn’t a bad comp to have no doubt. Six more to go to make true history. O-H
Ohio State can't compare to what Army did in 1944.
For sure. Army's competition was a helluva lot tougher.
It reminds me of a story Lou Holtz liked to tell from his first year as an assistant at William & Mary. The Indians, as they were known back then (they're known as the Tribe today), had traveled Annapolis to play Navy. Ringing the inside of the stadium are the names of famous battles the Navy and/or Marines have fought in over the centuries. As his players as they stretched prior to the game, Holtz claims he said something to the effect of, "Come on! We can beat these guys!" One of his players looked up, scanned the stadium and said, "Are you kidding me, coach? Have you seen the schedule they've played?" Navy won, 44-6.
Another version I've heard is supposedly a visiting player looked up and said, "We can beat these guys. They haven't played anyone I've ever heard of."
Mahalo to Iowa and Navy for the interesting histories and great anecdotes.
As Hans Christian Andersen would often say, "And that is a true story."
I realize we live in an era where it is in vogue to call your own shot. Maybe we are the greatest of all time, er since last year when Clemson was ballyhooed as such. Hype does not make right, might does. Right now there is a Committee that doesn’t even have us seeded as the best team this season. So I suppose we can just shout from the mountaintop we’re greater than 1944 Army, or just play the games, and let the accolades come as they will, if we continue to wreck CFB team as we have. Mercy.
The soldier is my son. The school I gone to didn’t teach much grammar.
Play the games!
You only have to go back to last year’s Alabama team to hear people saying it was on the track to being CFB’s best ever.
How Alabama compares to the best college football teams ever
Alabama’s Only Worthy Opponent Is History
He who does not learn from history is doomed to learn from history.
We're not seeded as the best team at this point. This is not the final ranking
Let’s hope the 50 and 10 dominating to date is indeed a barometer of continued strong performance over each next game.
And right now scoreboard tOSU=0, RU=0
Don't get me wrong, love seeing walkons contribute but want to see Jaelan Gill get a chance.
Harry Miller is the perfect example of a guy thay has a different demeanor once he's inside the white lines. Straight up nasty on the field. Him @ center will allow Myers to play his natural position next year RG. OL could be even better next year.
I just hope Day keeps this team grounded and hungry. A lot of football left guys.Lets take it one game at a time before we anoint them "GOAT".Some of us have seen this movie before. They very well could be the 2nd best OSU team of all time. The #1 will be next year with a veteran JF.
You are welcome!
MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS
It's incredible to even contemplate that next years team could be better as we will likely have to replace Chase Young, Jeffrey Okudah, Shaun Wade, Damon Arnette, JK Dobbins, Malik Harrison, Jordan Fuller, Davon Hamilton, BB Landers, Jonathan Cooper, and Bowen, Alabi & Jackson in the OL rotation.
I was all in on what Awlinbrutus said, until I read your post TMAC. That’s a lot to replace. Otherwise, Gill needs to be ready or he too will be passed up. The oline with Miller, Davis, Myers, Wray, Jacoby, Cupp, Petit-Frere oh yeah and some kid named Paris Johnson, is gonna be an all timer.
"Age wrinkles the body, quitting wrinkles the soul" Woody Hayes
Ditto Brutus 360 lol,the defense may take a step back but the offence could better with Garret,Williams and the wr from Pennsylvania.
It’s gonna be exciting with those wideouts for sure.
That is a tall order, but it will be fun to watch!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
The difference being, all their back-ups will have about the equivalent of 5-6 games of playing time experience and production when they become starters. The maturation process is happening now for those Young Bucks not during the OOC schedule next year.
Good point, Navy! Allowing Freshmen to play in up to 4 games w/o losing redshirt gives those lineman who never would have seen the field an opportunity to combine that second or third year's physical maturation with actual game experience.
Huge point actually. Our 2 and some 3 are battle tested already. Will also be a benefit for any post season run too (having the depth).
I do want to see Johnson go up against someone near his size and see how he does. Impressive blocks but he is a good 50-75 pounds heavier and about 5 inches taller than anyone he has had to face. Will be interesting to see him go up against other high school All Americans in whichever post season all star game he plays in.
Nevertheless, it’s his nastiness and “show no mercy” attitude that pops the most off the screen. That same attitude would serve him well against more typical DE’s he’ll face in college or on Sundays.
Yeah, I love his on field temperament. Dude is straight up nasty. But watching his senior highlight tape the other day I don’t think I saw him go against a kid that looked to even be within 4 inches in height and 50-60 lbs of him. He’s ragdolling dudes, but it’s going to be a massive jump next season like it usually always is for true freshman OL and people should probably pump the breaks a bit. For now he’s doing exactly what he should be doing and that’s annihilating every poor 6-1, 230 LB kid they place out there in front of him.
There were a few plays in there where he actually got pushed backward (0:14 and 0:28). The one play the kid had hands to the face and knocked his helmet off but nonetheless was pushing him back. I think it was due to complacency maybe?
Not to nitpick (while proceeding to do just that) but in the first four plays On his film I saw a gold and two blocks in the back. He’s gonna destroy some guys when he gets developed though.
Paris Johnson should be on some wanted posters after that highlight tape....SHEESH!
North West Ohio's finest...
Paris Johnson Jr. Is good at football and his toughness is exactly what you want to see. I read what former Auburn/Cincinnati Bengal player Willie Anderson said about Paris. That's all the endorsement the naysayers need.

"But, but, but.......O$U." Said all scUM fans everywhere.
They've been singing that song so long they should be in tune by now.
H Miller is by far the most impressive student athlete I have seen in past twenty years, when I listen to him talk, I hear a well reasoned, compassionate and considerate human being, he has become my all time favorite player before he ever played a single snap, love that dude.
Wizards are all the same, they talk nonsense while they make intelligent and important faces, Speak plainly!
Never look past you next opponent. Every weekend it's a one game season. Beat Rutgers...
We can look past this one.
beat Penn State!
I'd also offer a wild guess that the teams Ohio State has been waxing this season are quite a bit more talented than most of the teams Army faced,
They beat #5 Notre Dame 59-0 & #2 Navy 23-7.
I'm guessing that the talent of most teams 1944, except perhaps the service academies, was greatly diminished by so many able-bodied 18-21 year olds serving in the military., which likely explains in part why Army and Navy were #1 and #2 (their senior classes had entered school before Pearl Harbor, and were serving their country by preparing to be the next wave of young officers as the war continued. Even the junior classes had received their appointments and started school as the rest of the country was rushing to enlist or being drafted). There could have been a huge drop-off after #2 which led to the thrashing of #5.
Not only that, but the transfer rules allowed Army to add some top notch talent for 1944. Not to diminish what they did, it was simply a product of the time.
Them beating Navy 23-7 may have been like us trashing Wisky this year, while everyone else was trash (relatively speaking).
Notre Dame at that time, might as well have been Annapolis West. The reason Navy-Notre Dame is the longest uninterrupted intersectional football game game, is because the Naval Academy set up an officer training program at ND in 1943. Many schools were closing because of the financial strain of the Depression and the large numbers of college aged men leaving for war. ND was al,oat one of them, until Navy sent about 1500 students to South Bend for college and military training. ND plays us every year out of gratitude for keeping jet heir doors open and their faculty employed. To this day, they still have one of the largest Naval ROTC units in the country, and kept their ROTC programs on campus when others kicked them off during the Vietnam War.
Go Navy! Beat the Irish!
Ok, then to what do you attribute the 59-0 beat down by Army? Was Army just that good?
Probably. It's not the last time a good football team lost 59-0.
Just because they sent 1,500 students there doesn't mean they sent the best athletes with them... ;)
Just because they sent 1,500 students there doesn't mean they sent the best athletes with them... ;)
Navy was generous, not stupid.
Navy-As I recall during WWII the Navy had V7 and V12 programs at various colleges: UM, Wisconsin, and Case being three I remember. The Navy allowed its students to play football. Those schools that had similar Army units were out of luck as the Army did not allow its students to play. This is how Elroy Hirsch played for UM as well as Wisconsin. A number of players played five years of football due to transfers. My favorite player at Navy at the time was Clyde "Smackover" Scott from of course Smackover, Arkansas.

Good memory, as always Poco. We’ve definitely got to get together for a beer (or whatever your poison is) sometime. I would love to pick your brain.
They didn’t play Ohio State (9-0).

And here's to keeping all future games on the road. Home games are no bueno.
And Harbaugh thinks he's inventive going to Rome.
How about going to Paris and Berlin starting with a day at the beach in Normandy and a side trip to the Ardennes forest?
105-7; Is that the combined score from the Buckeyes first two trips to Piscataway Or the final score for Saturday's game?
I have to choose option because I can’t see Rutgers scoring unless it’s a complete fluke.
In the mean time though, we all know he'll be leading his unit like nobody else. Even if he's gotta do it while hobbling around on crutches.
This, essentially, is the entire issue I had with Bosa leaving in the middle of last season. I didn't blame him for not attempting to come back for the B1G title game or the Rose Bowl in order to avoid further injury, but I did blame him for treating his captaincy like a used Kleenex and throwing it away like it was nothing.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
To be fair, him being there was causing a lot of stupid "will he come back" drama. Like always having an ace up your sleeve kind of crap. I won't pretend to know the situation beyond what I saw watching games and some stuff here, but in the end it just removed a variable that wasn't helping anyone. As for how that affected dynamics in the program, hard to tell. But I'd say some other significant changes happened that made a much bigger impact on our defensive unit than 1 guy leaving after an injury.
I'm pretty sure there were at least 10 personal foul penalties that went uncalled in Paris' highlight reel.
Yea let’s see what he does in practice against McThanos...100lbs more than some of the guys in HS.

We're all just going to ignore that in that picture of Chase as a boy, that that is CLEARLY a future Bama RB next to him, looking like a 5'6 grown ass man.
I have no idea who is in that picture, but damn.
Lol I had to scroll back up and look and I’ll be damned if you didn’t hit the nail right on the head there. That is the Greg Oden of Maryland middle school football
That's the guy that posted the pic I'm 99% sure. "Coach Winters". That's not a kid, but I can't blame you for having to take a double take haha.
I refuse to believe this. It makes entirely too much sense.
This team is so fun to watch, and that is what it comes down to for me. Just keep winning baby!
Also, love that internet archive article. I gave up on vinyl back in 87 when I got my first CD player. But this past week, in fact, I bought myself a new turntable and have some vintage vinyl on its way to me now from ebay as I decided to get back into it full swing. So it's nice to see the vinyl collection they are digitizing, although I already see some gems that are missing. I am looking forward to listening to my Iron Maiden on vinyl and I also ordered a vintage Pink Floyd - The Wall (which was not cheap).
Listen to a vinyl recording and then folow it up with the same tune on CD/MP3/digital. There is a difference in the fidelity of the music, although it's not one that you can truly hear but rather feel. Because digital music 'cuts off' the sounds outside the human audible range, it sometimes feels less full.
We'll see starting next season, but this could be like the 2002 *iami team...'cept I don't see the culture letting a raspy team coming outta nowhere to pants them.
Let's see how they maintain themselves this year first, but how long WAS that win streak the Hurricanes had before that night in AZ?
The only time a sporting event welled me up from joy. ('90 Reds were close)
Yes--one game at a time--I think we all are ready for the Penn. and Mich. games but let's get through this weekend--NO INJURIES--NO OFF FIELD GARBAGE--GO BUCKS!!
After covering Chase and Harry Miller, I look forward to your editorializing about the thug that is Myles Garrett. He should be be banished for at least a year...
though Army probably put up those numbers without ever even throwing a pass,
Army did chuck the rock in '44 - a total of 58 times, with 33 completions, netting 8 scores, and a whopping 641 yards.
The obvious asterisk in Army's 1944 D-1 football record is World War II.
Am I the only one who thinks that, at worst, middle school Chase Young would still start at 4-6 other Big Ten schools?
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
