Does anyone think that it is detrimental to the starters playing half games ? Getting into a competitive close game the starters may not be used to full games ?
By no means am I promoting running up the score just wondering if the starters may be affected playing short games.
Possibly and Day has talked about that. They always prepare to play for the full game and they go from there. I think MSU is the one they played the whole game and they played most of it against Wisconsin. They looked good in those games. As a matter of conditioning they are fine. But you do not want to get them hurt if there is no point.
And it is hard to imagine another approach if you are winning. The bonus, probably, is that there is a fair bit of depth at most spots. So if guys would start getting tired they could to swap outs for a series or so. And not many other teams can say that much.
Wasn't an issue for Clemson last season.
First world problems.
Barney Fife lives, and he lives among us.
Hopefully we can pull the starters by at least halftime. This is a great game to get our younger guys a ton of reps and confidence.
My prediction is Rutger covers the spread.
Trivia: Back in the day, a rail and shipping tycoon was looking to spread his wealth and start a university. He focused on a school in New Jersey, but was turned away in his efforts. That didn't stop him however, instead he turned his attention to Tennessee, Nashville in particular and started a university which which he named after himself. That school became known as Vanderbilt, named after Cornelius Vanderbilt.. Yes even in the early days, New Jersey was screwing things up.
Yep, in an alternate universe, Delaney could have brought the Vanderbilt football powerhouse into the Big Ten to secure the NY metropolitan area.
We're not talking about the same thing.
They have an edge in net punting???? Embarassing
Best punter in the nation. I mean when you get 20 attempts a game, you have plenty of time to practice.
Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.
Tressel would be livid

Ohio State scored on a 2-point conversion was against Buffalo in 2013.
Pretty sure we converted a 2-pointer at the end of the Bama game. But that's beside the point. Still holds true that OSU has been bad on 2-point tries. Pretty sure we failed on key tries late in the last 2 PSU games, the TCU game last year, and Nebraska game last year. Those are just off the top of my head. Crazy to me, and maybe debunks my thread asking why teams aren't going for 2 more often! lol
I predict that we improve every one of our offensive and defensive stats this week.
I wonder if any team has ever done a reverse pull, where they start the 2nd string and put the starters in at second half just to make the game competitive. This would be the game to do that.
It'd also give Chugs, NPF and Tyler Friday a chance to start in front if their home-town crowd.
I legit wish Rutgers would just forfeit. There is really no point to playing this game. I know, any given Saturday but I would cut off my own penis if we lost this game. And if we can't forfeit, then let's just play our 2nd string to assure we get out of this game with no injuries to the 1st string.
I bleed scarlet...literally
but I would cut off my own penis if we lost this game.
Saving this for later just in case.
The point in playing is that there are many Buckeye followers in the area and we can come. Jersey is also a rich recruiting area and it is good for the kids to come and see tOSU. I want to see Fields and the defensive backs in person. I want to watch our young receivers too. No forfeit for me. Go bucks.
Rutgers has a large Campus in Newark. They forgot to mention that. Regardless, I will be at the stadium Saturday to joyfully watch the Bucks on the field. Oh yeah Elizabeth Warren attended law school at Rutgers-Newark. Poor vetting procedures back then.
The over/under starting at 55 might be the single easiest money grab of all time
I hope Rutgers scores, even if it takes our 4th string defense to do it. Once was enough of watching the only cool thing about rutgers football sit there and look miserable next to their cannon. They're just so god-awful I feel bad for them.
Our 4th string defense will be back in Columbus. Only 70 are permitted on the travel roster.
They got to fire that cannon against Liberty (wait, that didn't come out quite right)
Don't confuse me with the facts!
We can just let the 2nd or 3rd string offense play defense in lieu of the 4th string defense, and the 2nd or third string defense play offense in lieu of the 4th string offense. It'll work!
"Chuganov with his third sack!!!"
I'm thinking more like Dawand Jones on that sack. That's gotta hurt.
I think the starters, especially Fields, should play no more than one quarter of the game and then get them the heck out of the game. Don't need anyone getting hurt now.
Ironically, at the start of the season I hated having PSU and TTUN back to back. I was thinking it would be good to have an easy game like Rutgers the week before TTUN. Now, due to Chase having to miss this weekend, thankfully it is Rutgers and the schedule lines up the way it does. (We also have to play PSU &TTUN at the end of '21 as well.
