What a time to be a Buckeye fan.  Football team looks invincible, and the Basketbucks are favored against a top ten team.  Soak it in, folks.

Dairy-fed intellect and pure, unhinged sass.

That spread is more based on the unknown and the Buckeyes being at home than anything else. I like how this team is trending but there is alot of youth that they are leaning on heavily.

I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

HS

Our youth needs until mid-January to develop and then hopefully there is enough gas left in the tank for March.

Go Buckeyes!!!

This line will change. Unless they get off to a faster start, and make free throws. Gonna be tough to win

Everyone thinks this year is unreal for Buckeye fans, oh man just wait till next year. Justin Fields weapons are getting upgraded and the basketball team oh boy... Especially if DJ Carton is still around.

They were supposed to be a year away in 2014 as well and that turned out to be a pretty good year....

This is it. Don't get scared now.

Enjoy this year first.  Next year is not a given (see 2015).

Go Buckeyes!!!

Surprising that Bucks are favored, but 'Nova has a young team too, and only one game (against a weak opponent) under their belts.

Methinks Bucks have to play very, very well, not foul much or turn the ball over. This will be quite a feather in Holtmann's hat if OSU wins.

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

HS

Don't forget free throws. I just can't wrap my head around why they are so bad at it. They really need to improve.

First I read about a freshman qb now b-ball bucks favored over Villanova. I swear I didn’t drink tonight.

This has to be a mistake.  I really want them to win.  I just don’t understand the line.

HS
Dubs's picture

It’s not. OSU is home and both teams are young. Home court advantage means a lot with these spreads. If it was @Nova, the spread would be -3 (Prolly more) Nova probably. Would def bet on Nova if I were to bet tho.

Having seen several dozen games at the Schott, I'd have to guess that our home court advantage as far as the crowd creating momentum is one of the weakest in the NCAA.  Sometimes the advantage is the other team has to travel far, or is on a quick turn around.  Philly isn't far away and Nova hasn't played in a week, so those 2 things are a non factor.  About the only advantage we have is being comfortable shooting in the arena.

It should be a very competitive game, but if I were a betting man, I'd think being thin at the SF spot is going to create some issues for us and I don't think we win this game.

I wish folks had a little more confidence in OSU. The game against Cincy was ugly because that team is full of grown ass men playing a kid's game.

HS
mockjocks's picture

I think the hoops squad is welcoming the test. Regardless of what happens, this will make the team better down the road this season. I'm loving the early schedule.

HS
MeatBichigan's picture

Exactly. You have to play tough teams eventually, why not get some experience in early on? At the very least it's a measuring stick and will show you some areas for improvement. I have faith in Holtmann to both have a good gameplan and to make good adjustments as the game progresses to put our guys in a position to win.

HS

Should be a good game based on the favorite status!  But Andre Wesson will be missed.  The young Bucks will need to play up to their potential tonight.  Should also be fun to watch!

Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!

HS

Andre will be missed for sure. I remember as a freshman and sophomore, he was a liability IMO. Now not having him available is a big loss.

Favored over a top ten team. Holtmann is a damn wizard.

Guess they haven't watched this team play. I'd be shocked as hell if they win.

HS
Dubs's picture

Why. They played 2 ugly games and won. This game will be ugly too, both sides. Every game OSU plays in this year will be ugly with how well they force turnovers and how much they turn the ball over. They win like that, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they win.

It's funny to read some of the comments from Buckeye fans on here and on social media. There is a lot of doom and gloom, giving the Bucks little chance to win.

And honestly I know very little about Nova. I go with the 'ignorance is bliss' outlook with our non conference opponents. Heck, I was a little nervous with umass lowell because I found out they had a kid who scored 51 pts in a game.

But what I think we fail to realize is that these other teams have flaws, especially in early November. We pick apart our team because we watch every minute of their first two games and exhibition (at least some of us), but we seem to assume teams like Nova had no struggles in their early games. Heck, Kentucky lost to Evansville last night.

I have no idea what will happen. Nova could win by 25 pts. But the Buckeyes do have two advantages. One, it is a home game. The Schott is a pretty weak homecourt advantage. But Nova has some young kids playing their first true road game. Secondly, I think already having a grind it out game against Cincy should help our squad. Nova has played one game against overmatched Army.

Now I am sure you could argue some Nova advantages (Andre Wesson and Musa Jallow out, Nova has more time to prepare, etc.), but it still seems ridiculous to basically assume a Buckeye loss.

I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.

Nova by 8. Washington and Muhammad are playing like freshman, timid. I don't like Wesson 20 feet from the rim.

Seating @ the schott, is the extra dollars for the club worth it over the lower section? Plan on attending the game 11/29. Any feedback would be appreciated thank you in advance

MICHIGAN STILL SUCKS

HS

At Butler, in 2017, Holtmann topped Jay Wright twice. Only two other coaches have done this(consecutive wins). McDermott is one, Seton Halls coach as well. No coach has ever done this consecutively three times against a Jay Wright coached team. Third time is a charm.

HS
TurboNut's picture

I was going to mention this same thing, Holtmann seems to have some kryptonite against this team. Let's hope he gets three wins against them. Either win or lose, the experience against Nova will be a win for this young team who has a tough road ahead.

I am very slowly  becoming a hoops fan... I never much liked basketball, but I'm slowly warming up to college BB. But, then again, I'd watch College Checkers if it meant the Buckeyes had a chance to kick the hell out of scUM at it.

Don't they usually say home court is a 3 point advantage so really they think these teams are equal. Great early test to see where this team actually is.

CBB rankings are among the most fluid numbers in all of sports.  Hope the bucks have a great season, no reason Buckeye Nation should not be elite at both the marquee sports.

As BrutusB said, Holtmann is a Wizard. I think this spread is due to his influence on the program.

You know, with two young teams, it's really hard to predict what's going to happen.  Especially if it's close and the Bucks have to make free throws!

I say OSU 71-64.

Kentucky lost to Evansville last night! I like our chances tonight and I really like that we are playing a tougher preseason schedule! Go Bucks!!

OSU gets schooled big time tonight by Nova. If the Bucks come out like they did to start the game the previous two games, Jay Wright and company will run them over....
