“If we think we’re just going to show up in Piscataway and win the game, that’s not going to happen.”
He's right. The team at the very least needs to enter the stadium.
Nice! That made me laugh!

Man... I truly don't know about this statement. I'm a "never take anything for granted," type of person, BUT, this may be the one case in the history of football where just being in the same zip code as the team you're playing might be enough to win... /s
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Is Chugs starting this week? Usually players don't participate in Media Days unless they are playing a significant role in the upcoming game.
No, but he played significant time in the second half, and as a senior it is a good time for him to speak to the media
I don't know if they'll start Chugs, but I can't imagine Fields getting more than a half of work in this one, if that. Day is likely to treat this game like a NFL preseason game. This why the 60-point spread is utterly ludicrous. Rutgers is bad, no doubt, but they're not Florida A&M (or Western Carolina, or Wofford, etc). OSU will win- by a lot- but this is more likely to be 49-10 than 84-0.
The problem isn't just that Rutgers is bad. The problem (It's not really a problem) is that OSU is good in all the ways that allow them to score at least 60. OSU will get a ton of possessions, because Rutgers won't be able to move the ball. OSU will run all day on them. They don't need to throw to score, but they will to work on the passing game.
This is going to be a bloodbath, unless we turn it over three or four times, and even then it will still be a 30-40 point win.
I forget if it was Gus or Joel that cracked us up last week when he said, “you can’t say they’re running up the score. They’re just running the ball”. I see more of the same this week. I’m not sure that we’ll be able to even stop ourselves from scoring with the 3rd stringers in.

IIRC the last portion of the game against Maryland the Buckeyes had 3rd & 4th string starters on the field, and there were points scored
“Save yourself and relax during every game. I recommend a fine bourbon.”
Can we meet close to the middle at 70-0?
Also, I think it's ridiculous the spread ISN'T 60. They beat Maryland by 59. And that was with the starters pulled at the half. The same Maryland team that beat Rutgers by 41.
I'm not sure their offense is scoring any points in this game. They have zero play-makers on the offensive side of the ball (Maryland in contrast had two solid RBs who could break it at any time in Leake and McFarland).
We beat Md (who is better than rutgers) by 59 with essentially the backups gifting them their 14 pts via field position. I think an 84 pt margin is going to be closer than your 39 pt margin, unless the starters are pulled after, say, the first qtr. I think Day gives them more than a quarter to keep them sharp, and the second string does better than they did against Md. With this being an away game, the number of backups will be limited by the size of the travel roster, cutting back on the third-stringers and walking who get in the game. The backups will continue taking it to a very weak Rutgers squad (they were already bad before being handed to a HS coach and both their starting QB and best RB electing to red shirt).
to your point Analyticalguy -- without those 3rd & 4th starters to put into the game because the Travel Squad is limited in members, those second on the depth chart all across the roster will play probably 1/2 the game, translating to more misery for a hapless, and certainly out-matched Rutgers Scarlet Knights team.
That was what I was trying to say without being even more wordy.
Maryland put 47 on Rutgers. You think OSU will only put 49 on them? I think the scoreboard at the end of the game will read:
Scarlet Knights 9 Buckeyes 07
because it's not equipped to handle three digit numbers.

Really surprised the cannon guys picture is not in this thread. Maybe they will stay home and keep warm.

I hope that I'm wrong, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the NCAA won't rule on CY2 until next week, and they're going to rule him out for PSU. It is what it is at this point. If I were Day & Co., I'd hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
With the NCAA expect the worst. My worry is the amount is probably in the 5000+ range. Plane ticket, plus hotel, possible rental car and food for however long his girlfriend was in Pasadena. That’s not cheap. Until I hear otherwise, I still think they’ll give him 4 games minimum.
$5000? Even if the loan was for all that, I don’t think it would be more than half that. And it sounds like it was only the plane ticket.
A plane ticket from Columbus to LAX on short notice is around $1200 + round trip economy on delta. If that was the only cost...great! If you add up all of those items I said, it’s around 4-5K depending on hotel quality and rental car quality.
Half is about right. College kids don’t usually rent cars, they take Uber’s. That’s at most $400 for the trip. 2 nights in a hotel room, $1,000. Meals another $200 at most. Thats $2,800 and my guess is a college kid would find a cheaper hotel room/airBnB and keep the food costs down (fast food for 2 days would be nowhere near $200.
I think keeping Chase with the team and getting some reps is great! He’ll be able to help out a ton. I would keep Harrison and Smith running with the first team and taking most of the reps until we hear the verdict.
Class of 2010.
Yo, I love Ryan Day. Such an assassin. Bucks by 80.
Asked if he wanted to respond to comments that Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown made last week that the Wolverines are already preparing for Ohio State and the Buckeyes "better be careful," Day did not.
I see a new 11W tshirt in the works somewhere in this whole thing with Brown.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Of course Day is not going to respond to the Old man’s comment...
He’s much smarter than that!
Better believe every Buckeye has heard those comments... I would NOT want to be Patterson.. We get the chance, we will HAMMER them into submission!
Most dominant team since Miami 2001 imo. I dont think any team can keep it close if they both play their A games.
Always wondered what it would be like to go a whole season like that...dominating from start to finish a la that Miami team or Nebraska did in the 90s.
1998 was so close.

06 sorta felt that way because osu fans (and OC Bollman) had never had a playbook so deep and a Heisman qb playing miraculously. Great until the last game of course.
First, respect your opponent at all times. If players are not coached to do this bad things happen. Maybe Ohio State still beats Rutgers by 7 TDs, but attitude and focus wane. Respect all opponents always.
Second, I really like Berry getting some defensive reps. Hopefully he can get in on the sack fests the rest of the season.
Agree. I think the coaching staff has been able to successfully refocus the players on how they grade out vs. just the scoreboard. That keeps every game meaningful regardless of score and keeps the players trying to improve vs. just coasting through the easy games.
On arriving at Ohio State and getting in shape last summer: "I had been away from football for seven, eight months before I got here, and I had a hell of a time." He says he was skinny and has put on about 30 pounds since arriving.
I hate you.
He says nothing specific stuck out when watching Rutgers film.
Hahaha this made me crack up. No BS from Jefe.
"Uh no. They suck"
And here I thought it was Jefafa
On whether he cares about the College Football Playoff rankings: "All we're focused on is this game, winning this game and moving on from there."
And I hope they can keep it that way all the way into December.
Yep! Great answer by Josh. This team feels special
I already know Next Year's #1 reason to hate Maryland.
Having a mentor to let you down like this has to be the worst kind of hurt.

Didn’t know Chugs was from NJ. Thought we’d see him early. Now I think we will see him earlier.
One of the Vegas betting sites I check, still has 'Fields as probable'.
He's from Skillman -- which is about 30-45 minutes (west) from the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick.
He went to Montgomery HS. 20 min from me.
Ha! For all of our bickering, I bet there are a few folks we know in common. I am across the river from you in Bucks County. I have some dear friends, Rutgers alums, whose kids I believe, went to the same school.
Know the area well. Sounds like your in Yardly Pa to me. Very nice.
Actually Doylestown to be exact.
Very nice, we were visiting Peddlers Village during last bye weekend. I proudly wore Scarlet and Gray and got alot of looks! Love it everytime.
Hamilton clarified that the correct spelling of his name is DaVon, not Davon. He's been listed as Davon on Ohio State's roster.
"Davon is really good. Really, really good."
Poor guy literally tells the press how to correctly spell his name, and then he gets it misspelled later in the same article that included his spelling correction!
Chugunov says that his biggest challenge this time of year is staying warm on the sidelines.
Day will fix it. Get Chug a warmer jacket.
Perhaps he meant "loose"...in case he had to go into the game quickly.
Honestly, and I suspect I might catch it from some of my fellow Eleven Warriors - I really feel we NEED to see Chug keep the ball on a read. Day got on him earlier in the season on a read he did not keep - tailback got stopped quickly and he would have picked up five or six yards. Chug does NOT have the arm talent to sit back and hit intermediate routes so he requires the RPO to do true damage over the middle ( a tremendous piece of our attack). He does a decent job on the outside, and really does have a nice touch down field yet that middle of the field that Fields can just reach with ease and Hoak can hit on a rope, Chugunov does not throw and the only time we saw it was NOT strong against Miami of Ohio which says more than anything why I keep emphasizing Gunner even in a paired down offense because he is not picking the offense up as well as hoped!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
He doesn't need to keep it on a read in garbage time. Let him save it for a "trick play" if and when he has to take snaps with a game on the line. Don't give future opponents anything on tape they can prepare for.

They asked Day about the comments that Brown made from Mich?--he just blew it off --nah. Day might want to go revisit that Brown statement--good material for the locker room. Up here in Toledo--hear from the Mich. fans that we have not played anybody as of yet--week schedule and that they will be making a game of it in A2 this year---what ever--what else do you expect them to say? Go Mich. State--Go Indiana!!
Was that 35-14 butt-kicking TTUN took from Wisconsin a mirage???
The same team we beat 38-7 in bad weather!!!
Jeff Okudah - "He says that to this point, the defense has shown growth from last year" ....... This might very well be the greatest understatement in the history of the English language ...... From the outhouse, to the penthouse ..... Wow !!!
How can you not love Chris "Chugs". He is a truely a kid in the Buckeye candy store living the dream.
Keep eating Chugs, keep eating.
OH-IO living BACK IN COLUMBUS after 32 years in the ATL.
I don't think Okudah is too worried about Rutgers.
He says Jackson has gotten used to winning after his time with the Scarlet Knights.
This quote by Myers cracked me up.

Day is one of the most well-spoken coaches in CFB. I don't understand how Harbaugh uses words the way he does. Like, how does Xichigan's athletic department let him get up on a podium and speak actual words to real people???
"Hell, there's no question who'll win"
LOL at don brown's comments that The Buckeyes better be ready. That, there already practicing for The Game. The Game is all they have left, so why not practice for it. don brown is in WAY over his head. He was a big fish in a little pond at BC and all the other mediocre colleges he coached at. Another butt-kicking from The Buckeyes should send this over-rated dc back to the northeast.
