According to Kurelic, Knighton's coach says they've maintained a relationship, even talked to Alford last night and is looking to visit for the PSU game.

Can't embed tweets anymore? For some reason this site keeps saying I'm "blocked" wtf ha

Absolutely NOT. We don’t need or want any RB that turned us down over the summer. That includes the Texas commit. We’re good.

We are absolutely taking Bijan if he wants in.

I am pretty positive that if Bijan wanted to come to Columbus, they're not going to tell the 5* "sorry you had your chance"

Absolutely YES. Knighton and the program had a bit of an ugly falling out according to Birm but the most accepted reason that Bijan Robinson supposedly backed off of his silent commitment is that his parents did not want him playing so far away from home. If Bijan wants back into this recruiting class you ask him how long will it take him to get to campus for bowl practices as soon as he graduates.

The problem with Knighton is not that he picked another school. The problem is he told Alford and other OSU commits that he would not be taking a visit to FSU. He did take the visit and flipped. Lejond Cavazos tweeted about it and I cant imagine they would want to break up the culture to accept a guy who would do that.

Bijan would be a take 100%

You know Fields (the guy in your profile pic) turned down Ohio State for Georgia, right?

PG <3 PG

HS
Beantown_Buckeye's picture

He actually didn't. OSU was all in on Emory Jones when Fields committed to both PSU and Georgia. Fields was committed to Georgia for a month or two before the relationship with Jones fell apart and he was forced out of the class and then officially decommitted himself. Fields was never really a target for Ohio State.

Has the staff said that they don’t want him?

Though Ohio State was at one time considered the favorite to land the Deerfield Beach (Fla.) prospect, sources close to the program have indicated to Lettermen Row that right now there’s no plan for a renewed push to land the country’s No. 10-ranked tailback. Instead, Ohio State will continue to focus its recruiting efforts on Dalton (Ga.) 4-star Jahymr Gibbs and Cincinnati prospect Miyan Williams while it waits to see if there’s an opportunity to truly re-engage with 5-star Texas commitment Bijan Robinson.

While its good he is getting out of this dumpster fire, everyone here saw this happening before the season even started.

IMO people are WAY overreacting about this whole situation. Its recruiting...sure, Knighton may have burned a bridge, but there is no reason to act like he committed some egregious, unforgivable sin. Just be adults people and see if the relationship can be repaired.

I just hate the whole "this bridge is burned" talk. Why? Why not be an adult, let him apologize if needed, and see if it can be repaired?

HS
BuckeyeGoneNuts's picture

Normally I'd say yes to that, but in this case I would not want to create friction with the existing recruits, and from all accounts there was definitely some friction and resentment between Knighton and other recruits.  Not worth upsetting the apple cart IMO.

HS
keith7456's picture

"we" aren't saying it. The insiders are saying it. Knighton had been trying to get back in Ohio States good graces since September and the staff has wanted nothing to do with him. It's over... Move on.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

I really think his family at least father pushed him to FSU and he wanted to come here?

Denny

HS
Dstacify's picture

It depends on how the bridge was burned. If OSU was slighted by him choosing FSU the first time (while not knowing how this situation with Taggart would play out) and won't try to reopen his recruitment for that reason alone that's just being petty right there and paints the program in a negative light. If this situation is more similar to what happened with guys like Jackson Carman and Micah Parsons however I don't blame OSU for choosing to steer clear.

Agreed with the statement up to this point. Like others have said, no need to re-engage if its at the cost of the chemistry of the entire class or against the staff's past judgement. The talent there just isn't worth it, not sure it is for anyone in this class or given the talent already present in Ohio State's RB room. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

I think they want a bell cow Knighton is not that but we went with 2 rb's last year so he and Master could be a nice pair. Chambers and Crowley are nice rb's too. If we don't bring in a rb or just one I wonder if the staff has thought about moving Hooker to rb. Don't laugh he was a very good back in high school maybe better than a db. I watched him play a few times.

Denny

HS
BuckeyeGoneNuts's picture

None of us know what actually happened behind the scenes, but from the outside looking in it sure looks like Knighton burned every bridge on his way out the door, and I don't see the staff turning around and accepting him back.  The other thing is that there seemed to be some bridges burnt between Knighton and the rest of the 2020 recruiting class.  The chemistry of the current team and the 2020 recruits seems outstanding, I don't think you want to risk changing that to bring in a guy that bailed on you after being a silent commit.

I don't see Knighton in the class no matter what he does at this point.  Robinson is another story, there's definitely some wiggle room there because I don't think he burned his bridges on the way out.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

Robinson like Knighton are influenced through family it seems to me. Robinson's wanted him close to home if I remember correctly. Many of these experts with their CB's all pointed both to OSU and funny with in hours both players made a right turn. I think the so called experts go by what the players say and like I said above family wanted different? Parents need to give advice but they are not the ones going to the college cut the damn strings they need to grow up sooner or later. I wouldn't want to be a parent of a kid that went to a school that the son didn't want too. Life would be much easier if the son took the wrong road and everyone move on and live with it.

Denny

HS
Dstacify's picture

Is Robinson having second thoughts about Texas because the team is struggling right now and Herman's seat is getting warmer? If that's the case I haven't heard anything about it. We found out the hard way with Baldwin what can happen if you assume guys are 100% all in on your program while playing so far away from home. The only hope of us landing Bijan at this point is if Texas implodes in a massive way and Herman loses his job because of it.

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

If Bijan bails on Texas the odds are for him to end up at Southern Cal. The staff won't give up on trying to get him to come to Ohio State but the odds aren't good.

HS

Hopefully there will be some Hurry Up info on Bijan soon. Were not exactly in a place to be picky with the RB recruiting at the moment.

I'll have to disagree on the "not in a place to be picky" part.   This is a premier school for football recruits, and I don't think they are going to panic and take a guy because the just have to take a guy.  They could simply not recruit one this year, or look to the transfer portal down the line etc before they take some guy just because it's slim pickins.

HS
fritziebuck's picture

I have to disagree with your "they could simply not recruit one this year" that would be a disaster. Running the football is the most fundamental and important aspect of any offense.   Dobbins is likely gone after this year.  Teague will be the man next year.  But what if Teague goes down?  We have two unknowns in Crowley and Chambers sitting behind Teague.  Crowley and Chambers weren't exactly five star studs in HS. Teams like Alabama have showed depth at running back is a key ingredient to hoisting NC trophies.   A program needs to recruit stud running backs to compete for NC's.  Whiffing on a running back in a recruiting cycle is not acceptable at a place like Ohio State.

HS
RollRedRoll's picture

Crowley was the player of the year in the State Of Florida. He did it on the field against the best competition in one of the best states in the country for H.S. Football! Actual production on the field is worth more than how someone looks in shorts at some glorified camp.

HS
Ludwig Yards's picture

We have two unknowns in Crowley and Chambers sitting behind Teague.

They aren't unknowns to the coaching staff. And, there's going to be a RB in this class. May not be a guy that 'everyone' wants but there will be one.

HS
gobucks1966's picture

You beat me to that they both have proven they can play the unknown would be anyone we bring in or recruit. Remember the kid that we wanted and went up north that stunk and I think has left their program. We have enough to get by with out a back this year and it has been mentioned this years rb class is not real strong and might have kids on the bench playing now that are better than what we may bring in.

Denny

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

Probably Williams from Winton Woods or Gibbs flipping from Georgia Tech.

HS
BuckeyeGoneNuts's picture

That would be a disaster?  Nonsense.   We have other capable running backs and there are going to be good RB's in the next cycle as well, plus there will likely be good RB's in the transfer portal at some point, that's just the nature of CFB now.

Last I checked, Zeke was not a 5 star coming out of HS.  Neither was Carlos Hyde.  Etc.   You don't have to have a 5 star RB to be successful, we've already proven that.  The game has changed and continues to change to the point where it's not impossible to win a title without a stud running back, and just because someone wasn't a 5 star in HS doesn't mean they can't become a stud running back.

Further, the reality is right now you're not going to get a 5 star running back.  There are clearly some other backs that the staff feels have great potential, and they are trying to recruit them.  If they whiff on those, it doesn't make sense to bring on some other guy "just because you need to recruit one".  If you don't think the guy is the right fit (talent on the field and character off it), then you don't get one this cycle and double your efforts for next year.

I'm very curious to see what happens with Cam Akers. He could turn pro or maybe hit the portal. I think we'd be near the top of his list of he was looking to transfer somewhere.

HS
Dstacify's picture

From what I've heard Alford no longer wants him. Could be a situation similar to what happened with Sampson James where the relationship just soured towards the end. Regardless if the coaching staff doesn't feel he would buy into the program we should steer clear of him, regardless of our need at RB. OSU should only take players that actually want to play here, period.

I believe it has been discussed ad nauseam, concerning Knighton's "relationship" with Ohio State; however, every thing I have read indicates Ohio State is NOT interested in having him in this class.  Insiders have said Knighton lied to Ohio State coaches and recruits in the 2020 class about attending the FSU barbecue, and signing with Ohio State.  All in all, it makes no sense to bring in a guy that is not trusted, or does not fit from a personality standpoint with the rest of the commits.

Best of luck to the young man wherever he may land; however, Ohio State is doing the right thing, in my opinion, by choosing to pursue other options.

gobucks1966's picture

If I had to pick the winner of the OSU rb derby it would be Williams of Cincinnati. My reason right or wrong go by he was almost impossible to reach by the coaching staff and just a few miles from C Bus and wouldn't visit for all this time. Now has broke away and will make a visit. He could be doing that because people have said take a look and see what they have for you. Then again like he has mentioned he likes the small time life in Iowa and maybe wants to be a big fish in a small pond. Bottom line with Knighton and Robinson all of a sudden we are hearing reasons why they chose other schools yet at the time it happened we never heard a peep why. We are throwing out stuff that is either rumor or opinions I believe and is anyone here close enough to anyone that has the real scoop???

Denny

HS
AZ Buckeye13's picture

Nobody really knows for sure except the recruits. Robinson's family wanted him to commit closer to home so they could attend home games easier and the "rumor" was a family member wanted Knighton to go to FSU. Other than that...anybody's guess.

HS
OSUtopia's picture

Maybe the Iowa St. coach being named in every article as a possibility for FSU and USC would lead Williams to decide that whether its this year or next, the head coach recruiting him won't be around much longer.

I want Robinson but just wanted to put in here that someone posted a screenshot of lejonds post about what people thought was knighton... Lejond wrote on that post that he wasn't talking about knighton or anyone else... It was just a teenagers post about random stuff.. I think the coaches are the ones not wanting to mess with knighton again.. It has nothing to do with our other commits... I haven't watched his tape this year so I don't know if he has gotten better or worse... Id just love to get one of these good backs this year
