It is a weak slate, but there are a few games to keep an eye on.
I expect either USC or Washington to win one of those games. AS far as the 2 Bye weeks go...it worked out okay last time.
Elliott dots the eye, on this national championship win.
Oregon has been walking on egg shells all year. They might be deserving of a CFP spot if they win out, but they certainly do not pass the eye test. I hope USC takes them down.
I want Oregon in the Playoff because we might get matched up with them in the Semi's
I think Oregon losing opens the door more for Oklahoma than a second B1G/SEC team.
Might be correct. I turned on the TV the other day, and ESPN was still on from where I was watching a game the night before. It was Around The Horn. The dude that awards or takes away points, took like 6 points away from one of the writers for even suggesting that a 1 loss OU would stand a chance, just stand a chance, to get in over a 1-loss SEC nonchamp.
I usually don't get all burnt up like some people do over ESPN. But that set me off. He wouldn't even let him finish his argument. Just kept talking over him saying there is no way two SEC teams don't make it.
lol what a tool.
If it’s that same tool as a few years ago, I always felt he was the much less successful Ryan Seacrest of ESPN. The dude knows nothing.
Don’t forget SMU Memphis
I like the byes to recover. The schedule has had some clunker weeks for sure. This is probably the week we should have been playing Rutgers then Penn State, bye then Maryland and Michigan. I’m still really pissed we have to play Michigan right after Penn State. Why wouldn’t the B1G setup it’s bell cow for the most success?
I actually prefer to go straight from Penn State, Michigan, B1G Championship, Semifinals, Finals.
Get through the next few weeks then it is championship time!

We aren’t the SEC where you end your schedule soft. I like playing tough games to end the schedule. If this team is as real as I think it is, it won’t matter one bit.
Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.
OSU has a hell of a gauntlet to go through if hey want to win a National Championship. Top five Penn State, top 10 Michigan, then either an undefeated top 10 Minnesota or top 15 Wisconsin rematch, then will have to beat two of the top 4 teams to win the natty. That's a hell of a gauntlet.
Joey Galloway will still probably say we haven't been tested yet after all that.
There are plenty of games with upset potential. Plus with the Buckeyes off, I don't hate there being few marquee games so I can spend time with family in great weather (at least in NC).
Exactly. I told my wife if there's something she has been wanting to do as a family on a Saturday, this weekend is the weekend to do it.
Me too. But then my wife wants me to come up with the ideas of what to do and then plan the day.
Maybe she would like to watch the Florida vs. Georgia game with you.

So, I take it that you’re Fido?
NC? I was in Erwin a few years back.
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!
Yep. Lived in Raleigh since '87
The UGA/UF game is still one of the biggest games of the entire season. Other than that not much else. Could see another Top 10 team fall when Utah travels to Washington.
Yeah, it's a good weekend for me to to be working. There are no games that really need my full attention so I can have some games streaming on my mobile devices and just look in every now and then to see if there are any fun upsets brewing and switch around.
That schedule next week though!
1 LSU @ 2 Alabama
5 Penn State @ 13 Minnesota
19 Iowa @ 18 Wisconsin
12 Baylor @ TCU
22 Kansas State @ Texas
23 Wake Forest @ Virginia Tech
Missouri @ 8 UGA
4 Clemson @ NC State
Gonna be glued to the TV and gonna need to have a few other devices around me streaming.
Are those last three really games anyone is excited about?
"The goal is to end every drive with a kick." - Jim Tressel
Yes. See username.
If Wake wins out (not going win @Clemson, I realize), they could theoretically go to the playoff as a 1 loss team. Metrics give them a 1-2% chance of winning out, but a 75% chance of making the playoff if they do. We were historically one of the worst teams in FBS, but Dave Clawson is an awesome offensive coach, and has us in our 4th consecutive bowl (first time in school history). We're the smallest P5 school in the nation, by far.
Basically, jump on the Deacs bandwagon!
Go Bucks, Deacs, Panthers, Braves
Do teams really need to have TWO byes during the year?
I could be wrong but I think this is the first season in a long time where we've had 2 byes.
Shandy is not beer
Also 2008 and 2013. It's really not THAT rare.
I think they should have two byes every year. It’s a long road to the end, and I remember Meyer saying how gassed the guys get.
They had to add another buy this year because November fell just right to where there ended up being 5 Saturdays. They had to add another buy to line up the last weekend to Thanksgiving.
I am very much ok with two bye weeks. You have to understand that this is not the NFL. Although they willingly do so, not only do these kids take a beating, they're also in school and probably need a week for tutoring and to complete coursework. We are every team's Super Bowl, so this program needs all the rest they can get. Also, these kids are able to go back home and see family and friends. You know, be a kid and have a life outside of football. It's good for the soul to have a break from the grind. The fact that some people don't understand that is ridiculous. Being a college football player is literally a job. Fans also benefit too, we have another week to spend time with our families and do other things. The wife or girlfriend benefits, which means you do too.
Our objective is simple: to make the state of Ohio proud.
Well put. Why begrudge these kids time off because someone is inconvenienced.
This is just a function of the two bye weeks this year. It's a coincidence that all those top team's second bye fell on the same week that Clemson scheduled another virtual bye against an FCS team.
In their defense, playing most any team from the ACC wouldn't have been much better.
I'm really not unhappy with the two perfectly placed bye weeks for us this year. It sets us up well. I'll sacrifice one Saturday of AMAZING football downgraded to good football so our team can be healthy, relaxed, and ready to run the gauntlet.
To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.
JF's back was hurt, so was Olave's - so yes bye weeks are needed. Two are fine as well.
I wish every season had 2 bye weeks. As far as I see it, its an extra week of college football and its more time for these kids to heal up, catch up on school, have a life. Not really any downside to it at all, this week just happened to play out such that the top teams all had byes.
and time for some of us to spend with family instead of being glued to a TV every saturday haha
Do teams really need to have TWO byes during the year?
Why are we still asking this question after nine weeks of football? Personally. I'm happy for the second bye week. Less wear and tear on the athletes. A chance for Fields, Munford, Browning and others to get healthy. An opportunity to refocus the team and install some new wrinkles before Penn State and Wisconsin.
Besides, this year we get one extra weekend of college football. The season goes by too fast as it is. Take deep breath of fall air, and enjoy the smell of the leaves. Sit down and watch a couple of really good football teams that you never watch, like Memphis and SMU, go after each other on Saturday night. The winner has the inside track on the American conference and possibly a NY6 berth. Thursday, a pair of unbeatens, Baylor and App State, are playing important conference games. There's also the very real chance that Michigan chokes against Maryland. The Florida-Georgia game has big CFP implications. Utah and Oregon have important games in the PAC 12 that could have CFP implications.
And if nothing else gets your juices flowing, watch Army and Air Force play on CBS Sports at 3:30 EDT. Service Academy matchups can be a lot of fun, especially when the Commander in Chief's trophy is in the balance.

This is the perfect post for this weekend. You are 100% spot on here Navy.
One disagreement, I feel like Michigan -20.5 vs. Maryland is a lock this weekend.
Other than that, let's check out some AAC and service academy football!
As usual, you beat me to the punch by writing a pithy comment, while I take seven minutes to blather on. I agree, Michigan is likely to cover the -20.5 because Maryland really, really sucks. It will take babyhands to fumble the ball 2 or 3 times for the Terps to cover the spread, let alone for MD to put a scare into Michigan. And with Mike Locksley coaching your team, there is no homefield advantage.
I really think Michigan turned a corner in the second half against Penn State and as you pointed out, Maryland is bad and getting worse every week.
Maryland recent results:
52-10 @ Minnesota
40-14 @ Purdue
59-0 vs. Penn State
Yeah... but this is the Locksley vs. Gattis showdown all of America has been waiting for!
That was said with tongue firmly in cheek. Every Saturday is a chance to watch Michigan choke. App State happens.
The rest of my post was serious, though. I'm juiced to watch Navy play UConn Friday night. Malcolm Perry is the leading QB rusher in the country and now has a higher YPC average than Jonathan Taylor (thanks Silver Bullets!). He only needs 66 yards to break 1000 yards and it's only game 8 for Navy.
And Thursday night football gets me out of handing out candy for Halloween.
Good stuff, Navy! Thanks for the refreshing perspective. One thing, though . . . I can't see Maryland being much trouble to Michigan because . . . Mike Locksley. Locksley's career record as a head coach is now 6-36.
His 3-5 year so far with Maryland has raised his career winning percentage! But after wining their first two games, Maryland has fallen into a nice Mike Locksley groove, losing five out their last six games.
You could argue that Matt Canada - the 2018 interim coach - has been MD's best head coach since Ralph Friedgen.
A lot of times when it looks like there won't be any good games, crazy stuff happens anyway. Watch Michigan shit the bed against Maryland or Ole Miss to upset Auburn or something like that.
This bye week falls nicely for the SAB family and getting caught up with our lawn business after a week with lots of rain. Also, many bumps and bruises to heal for the Buckeyes heading in the final stretch.
I don't care that much. There are good upcoming games. Not every week is going to be the end all be all weekend. Last weekend had some good games. The weekend after this coming one has some good games. It will all work out. You cannot help who is good and when the byes happen.
The two byes I am meh towards but it is nice to get healthy. Do all teams have two byes now? I thought it was just a scheduling quirk.
I can't wait to go rake leaves on Saturday when it's 40 degrees. Jameson in the coffee Saturday morning to keep my body warm.
"Honey Do" list: Buy Week Edition - build walk in closet from unfinished attic space.
Yes BYEs, imo college teams shouldnt be allowed to play more than 5 weeks in a row.
Why not just start the games the second week of September rather than Labor Day weekend and have one bye rather than having a prime fall weekend so devoid of good college football?
1.) If you don't have college football on labor day weekend, you're just trading weekends, "devoid of good college football".
2.) Do you realize that 2 "bye" (really off rather than bye) weekends necessarily means there is an extra week of CFB?
Enjoy it while it's here, the CFB season is fleeting
A second bye week with an extra hour of sleep?
I'll take it, sure.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
It sucks from a fandom point of view but I have no problems giving Fields extra rest before playing again. He looked dinged up pretty bad against Wisconsin.
Uh, disagree. There is a Greenville/Spartanburg rivalry brewing up! I ordered my Wofford Terriers hoodie today so it would be here by Friday.
Bears...Buckeyes... Battlestar Galactica.
I think the two bye weeks are the result of a situation that happens with the calendar every few years: the combination of the earliest possible day for Labor Day (September 2) and the latest possible day for Thanksgiving (November 28).
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Yeah I'm not a fan of the two byes either. It's unnecessary. This is probably the worst November slate of games I can ever remember. Hoping there's at least one upset.
Not the best week, that's for sure. I'll be doing some family activities and enjoying some time away from the tube in celebration of the bye week.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Last year's Week 12 was pretty bad. I would actually take this weeks schedule over that
12 Syracuse vs. 3 ND
24 Cincinnati @ 11 UCF
16 Iowa State @ 15 Texas
No other good games
I'm not going to complain about a second bye, it gives the team a chance to get rested and recovered after taking some shots against Wisconsin. I suppose I would have rather had them a bit more spaced out but not much we can do about that.
Guess it was just a coincidence that so many other top teams are also off this week which is unfortunate, but I know I could personally use a weekend away to get some things taken care of around home lol.
As much as I enjoy watching OSU kick ass I'm going to be getting a shit ton of yard work done this weekend lol.
Clemson plays pussies every week yet their fans think it won't matter if they make playoffs cause they'll trounce whoever they play. They lost a ton of playmakers from last years team but let them spout delusional shit like Ttun.
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
i'm with ya brotha. start the season second weekend of september. second bye week is a mojo killer.
Why not just start the games the second week of September rather than Labor Day weekend
Every AD and sports media exec is rolling their eyes right now... no way are they going to pass up holiday weekend revenue.
Why would I want to wait another week for the college football season to start? People were excited to watch some crappy game in "week 0" and are now complaining that UGA-UF is the best we've got?
I'm going to the USC-Ore game. That'll occupy my time from 2-9pm PDST. I hope I can still see straight by the time I get in.
I was tossing around the idea of going as well. We're in Vegas and my son has a flag football game Saturday at 8:15am. I'm sure we can cruise across the desert in plenty of time for kickoff. The fires have me rethinking the drive though...
