Good story. Glad to know I'm not alone in Franklin. There's just something about that guy...
"When you're part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they'd do the same for you." Yogi Berra
COMPLETELY. AWESOME. Loved every second of that read. Appreciate you posting it.
Barney Fife lives, and he lives among us.
Franklin looks like he uses the entire Axe product line, including the body spray.
"I don't want to be around average, why be around average!" -UFM
I would have thought the DoucheBag was more of a BodMan Walmart type myself.
I see Harbaugh as more of a Mitchum guy. Or I am underestimating his craziness and he rubs a specific mixture of margarine and Thompson's WaterSeal on his underarms.
Bears...Buckeyes... Battlestar Galactica.
Did the guy enjoy talking to you for 2 hours?
Man I wish I could pick a former high level coaches brain.
I feel I know a good bit about football but getting information from someone like that would be awesome
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
Man it was awesome. He never seemed bothered or anything. I tried not to talk too much about football but he would ask my opinion on a few things just to see my perspective and then would tell me his. I was like a kid in a candy store.
"it matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
I think mac was being an ass there.
Franklin is a DBag, State College is a hell hole and the school is not so great either. They deserve each other
"Have a Coke and a smile!.....along with $150 in UM football tickets"
Confirms what many of us have thought. I remember feeling like the Purdue debacle was on Schiano immediately afterwards. Even though he wasn't the reason we had 6 pts entering the 4th quarter but I digress . . .
+1 thanks for sharing
AKA the Horseshoe, the Shoe, and the House That Harley Built
Last year when everyone was vilifying Werner and Borland, I kept trying to say that the main problem was schematic. That they looked slow because they were hesitant. The system required them to think too much. And as Crash Davis once said, "Don't think, it can only hurt the ballclub."
Ako ne možete postavljati bez gluposti ... nemojte
Ako vièeš na suce, ti si šupak
To be fair, Borland looked slow because Borland is slow, did you not see an entire offensive line track him down on his fumble return? But yes, Schiano set these kids up for failure. Borland and Werner are both vastly improved from last year, which lends itself to the new scheme and coaching staff.
According to draftscout.com, Borland's 40 time is between 4.65 and 4.85. For a MLB, that's not fast, but its not slow either. So, no he's not slow, he's a MLB with average speed.
Was that before the Achilles injury
Has to be. If he runs better than 5.2 at the combine, I'll be shocked.
Come on, he's not getting invited to the combine, don't get crazy here
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
There is a 0% chance he runs anything faster than a 5.0. He was passed by dremont jones last year who ran a 5.11 40 time, and Tuf doesnt look any faster this year
He can run a 4.2 for all I care on these websites. The fact is on the field he is slow, and that's ok. He does his job in the situations where his skills fit the defensive play calls.
Schematic issues aside, the reason Borland overpursues is because he knows that he can’t catch up with the play if he is even slightly behind.
he seems like a great kid...tough as hell and relentless. However, you can’t teach speed
I have always always hated Franklin and to see his face and not just what but how he talked about him you could tell it was just a serious dislike. I felt sane hahaha like oh man I'm not crazy and this guy IS an asshole. haha, the Harbaugh comment almost had me rolling
Franklin's face is just so.....punchable.
I never really liked the guy either but I really respected the move when he pulled his guys back on the field to shake hands after they lost to MSU
I had a cup of coffee coaching college ball and it was pretty common knowledge that Franklin was a major douchebag. And that is saying something in a profession where a lot of these guys have crazy egos.
The so and so is a douchebag comment always cracks me up, as if there’s any actual nice guys in the coaching world.
“LENNNNNAAAAAAYYYYYYY”-Arthur Morgan 1899
There are some nice guys. They all suck though.
I believe that was a variant of the “nice guys finish last” trope
Ryan Day and Chris Peterson certainly don’t suck. Tressel didn’t suck. Herm Edwards doesn’t suck.
You play to win the game
"The minute I think I'm getting mellow, I'm retiring. Whoever heard of a mellow winner."
That's a cool story, glad you had that time with him to chat. I worked with a guy years ago who was a big Florida fan and somehow became friends with Meyer. I didnt believe it at first till he pulled out actual pics with them golfing and just hanging out. He always had great things to say about Meyer even when he was OSU's coach. It's nice to hear these stories because coaches really are just people too and like to shoot the shit. Thanks for sharing man it was a good read. Also glad to hear that everyone's suspicions were correct and Franklin is a total dip lol
Without sounding holier than thou, one way to judge a person is if they take their faith seriously. I know people at Urban's parish. When he's in town, he's there. By all reports, he takes his faith seriously.
Not sure why you've been downvoted, UV to counter. I'd like to point out to everyone that Todd-NB said "ONE" way to judge a person is looking at their faith, not the only way. He isn't saying this is the best or only measuring stick, just one bit of evidence that Urban is likely a genuinely good guy.
Shhhhhh. Don't you know, you're not supposed to actually read the entire post before going off half cocked with DVs. You clearly don't know how to play the 11W game.
A good and important distinction. I'd say that one good way to judge someone is if their actions on faith match their claims. Which is of course a longer way of saying that hypocrites suck.
No distinction from what I wrote, since "taking one's faith seriously"; which is how I framed the observation, implies actions meeting their religious values. Of course, since the only person in the history of the world that was perfect was murdered for being perfect, I'm not sure even your observation is completely valid.
I will say many negative things about Dabo and what he does at Clemson, but youcan’t seriously claim he doesn’t take his faith seriously.
I have no clue about Dabo. i don't even know his religion. I don't know him or anyone who goes to his church. Therefore, all I know about Dabo is what the media reports. One of the things everyone should've learned about 15 months ago is to not believe anything most reporters say.
Man that is pretty amazing. I don’t know any former college football coaches. But Im pretty good friends with a guy that is a legend in the high school basketball world here in Oklahoma. I know it’s not college or pro but man he would tell the craziest stories and know some crazy stuff that no one else does. Always enjoyed hearing insights from him after the regular season games and state championship games. He coached my wife when she was playing for him, she started I think 3 years and she had a record of 104-5.

This Corona ain't no bologna! Do your part to flatten the curve, the life you save may be one of your fellow Buckeyes!
I believe it.
Cool story. Condolences for your family's loss.
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
Well, lets just prove this guy right and win all of out games convincingly.
I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes
So that’s gotta be Chris Ash, right? Scarlet N Grey Texan, Chris Ash becoming an analyst at UT. Very cool story and thanks for sharing.
I was thinking either Cam Cameron (TTUN assistant, IU alum and HC, LSU OC) or Jerry Kill (Minnesota HC, Rutgers OC).
You know a person sucks if Jerry Kill hates them.
"I find your lack of kalua disturbing" - Darth Lebowski
Row the boat?
I'd go with Kill but wasn't he subjected to some controversy when he left Minnesota?
ironically my wifes cousin lives in Minnesota but it wasn't Kill
So by the OP stating that it wasn't Kill, then the implication is that is WAS Cameron. Well done sleuths! We've solved the mystery!
Good guess, but Ash is a defensive guy. OP says he was an O Coordinator.
Ah I missed that detail. Good catch.
Chris Ash was a DC.
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
no, it wasn't Ash
Good read, good story
"Mongo only sausage in bowl of soup"
Can we get a "sounds like..." hint here?
You didn't wear the Buckeye hat into the funeral did you?
He wore a herbstreit jersey
and Buck-I-Guy signed it!!
And tried to get paid for it!
shit no this was at my mother in laws house two days after the memorial. I had been out of town and wanted to go over there to see my wifes cousin, he and I are pretty tight. It was a relaxed afternoon having bbq watching football.
I always that these letters were fake, but....
Pics or it never happened...

That was a very cool read. Thanks for the share.
Fields of Dreams
Cool story, thanks for sharing.
Of course, everyone knew he was a scumbag when Franklin said he wants to see a coach's wife before he hires him, because if the man didn't have the guts to talk to the pretty girls in the bar, he won't have the guts to sell his program in a recruits living room.
You know who loved Franklin though...
Pumpkin head I have never heard a good word about him in the coaching circle not that I'm in it but always negative talk. The one thing I have noticed about him on the side lines is how he chest bumps and goes nuts when they are ahead and stands like a rock when they get behind. If you get a chance watch the 2017 game and watch him at the early part of the game compared to the 4th qt. Hair ball is nuts no if ands or buts plus both coach's are not really liked by most in their fan bases either.
Pumpkin head? Franklin reminds me of a thumb, the side opposite the nail, and put some Mr. Potato Head eyes and mouth on it..
That's one of the most sexist bullshit comments I've ever heard. Franklin is a POS.
My day just got a lot better - thanks for sharing.
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

Would enjoy more detail on the Jimmy stories...please share
I know a guy casually that coached for Jimmy. He did volunteer that Jimmy was crazy, but didn't provide any good stories to back it up. I'm still hopeful though.
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
I know someone that talked to him at Big Ten Media Days right before his first season and he told me Harbaugh seemed like an egomaniac and had little interest in talking about anything other than himself. Color me unsurprised.
"F--- Alabama! Wisconsin is terrifying"
DI DL coach
Thanks for sharing. I crossed paths with Franklin once and can confirm I had the same feelings about him as this coach does.
In all my years win or lose I never seen a OSU coach go nuts on one of our fans like he did after the loss to us in their barn. Woody well not sure how to explain him but I was told long ago some of that was show. The show ended vs Clemson and it was his final curtain call. I think it was time for him to step down but not that way .
Alright, so let's begin the guessing game on who this was...
Must be Cam Cameron.
The Franklin stuff is interesting because they have had a few guys make lateral moves to Tennessee, Auburn, Bama(maybe understandable) for not much more money.
