Thanks for the Friday Hurry-Up Zack! The questions being asked are terrific as is your responding to them. Go Bucks!
Styles may leave the state because he wants to play WR. But, um, if leaving the state and exploring a different place is something that you generally recommend, well... that doesn't fit well with the general Ohio State recruitment strategy. Not sure "if I was Styles, I would go to Notre Dame" is exactly what I was hoping to hear from the recruiting writer...

If I was Styles, I would go to Notre Dame. I would want to expand my horizons and live in another state to get more experiences...
My words coming out of your mouth, Hd. That is an odd sentiment on an Ohio State website... and perhaps the most awkward ever expressed by an 11w staff member.

I actually had to go back to re-read that part to make sure I was reading that correctly. lol A lot of great information, Zack, but I’d probably steer clear of recommending Buckeye recruits go elsewhere. I’m sure the Buckeye staff in the WHAC (who work countless hours recruiting these young men) wouldn’t appreciate that.
Maybe I’m being a jerk, but I’m not a fan of recommending top flight recruits go elsewhere. I respect an honest opinion and this is the authors space for it, but I don’t think it’s the best way to keep readers. Imagine if someone was on here publishing a story endorsing Zach Harrison to TTUN last year. He should expand his horizons, OSU is too deep at DE, etc. Not that anyone cares, but it’s my opinion.
Nobody likes an objective opinion..... Lets all drink the cool-aid.... Its trendy so why not follow the pack!!
Straight sarcasm if u cant tell...
I totes appreciate you being candid...... And for the rest of you your paticipitation trophies are in the mail =)
Fair enough, but I love the voice in the writing. I tend to agree with him that Styles ends up elsewhere. Why not just say it?
Right, we seem to welcome AE’s candor with open arms, even when he teases us with ambiguity, so why not Zack’s opinion? I’d much rather someone give me bad news than lie to me to spare my feelings. Just don’t violate any confidences or burn any bridges with the staff and prospects.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
Candor/objectivity is an Ohio State recruiting writer saying, "Because of Notre Dame's relative lack of depth and talent at receiver compared to Ohio State's current room and who OSU has committed for 2020 (the best WR class in college football), Notre Dame is probably the leading destination for Styles. In all truthfulness, Notre Dame can offer Styles something that Ohio State cannot... a relatively easy and clear path to early PT. All of that, plus offering one of the country's elite degrees, makes Notre Dame very appealing to Styles, and that's certainly understandable."
That is much different from an Ohio State recruiting writer saying, "If I was Styles, I would go to Notre Dame. I would want to expand my horizons and live in another state to get more experiences..."
No one has said/implied/suggested/hinted that they want to be lied to in order to have their feelings spared (that's just silly)... but I think it's fair to say people don't expect the Eleven Warriors recruit writer to say, 'If I were player X, I'd choose to go to school Z over Ohio State to expand my horizons and get more experiences.'
This is the wrong forum for that sentiment, imo. He chose his words poorly, as I certainly have on many occasions, and I'm now moving on.
I agree if he wants to play WR elsewhere might be best if he's 7th or 8th on the depth chart here. We have Harrison in Philadelphia area and other elite possibilities. I hope he chooses what's best for him.
Like it or not Zack is not blowing smoke up our behinds. The kid wants to play wr that probably would never happen here. Being a top rate recruit well maybe in state but out of state not that electric unless he wants to play defense. In both cases we are in on other kids that are better players at both positions. So take a kid because he is from Ohio or a player that will challenge to play. I think he knows the situation too or ND wouldn't be in the picture. Everyone gets upset with the coaching staff when we lose a high profile recruit but not so much when we take a lesser Ohio player over a OOS kid that's turns out better. Then throw in bringing up Ohio kids that shine at other schools but never mention Ohio kids like Hillard or Harris to mention a couple who have been bust. You wanted then you got them. Styles would be the same as Harris if he came here.
I can see where you're coming from, but given the other information, I feel its more a realistic prediction/expectation.
tOSU supposedly wants him on Def. He's going to be in an insanely crowded and talented WR group if he does get Off. Notre Dame is performing well currently and the job opening is a bit more visible there. I'd probably recommend the young man do similar unless his dream is tOSU, then its obv what to go with.
In Zach's intro, he said he moved around a bit in the last couple of years. "if I was Styles, I would go to Notre Dame" is reflective of that. Not that Styles is necessarily leaning toward coming here . . .
Zach’s a writer, not osu staff or a fan
Several 4th year players who will not get a 5th year. This will give the class some elasticity for 26-27.
Like who? I could see McCall, Harris, Wint, Cupp, Hausmann, Riep, Williams and Gardiner all possibly explore the portal but I don’t think any of them won’t be welcomed back.
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
Half of those names you mentioned are 3rd year sophs.. I'm thinking McCall, Cupp, Wint, Jackson. Ones that have zero chance of starting.
Mr. Carpenter, you're doing exceedingly well thus far; I'm not a big recruiting guy, but I always make a point to read good writing. See if they'll let you take over the Buckshots. Those things almost never get updated any longer
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster...
Right? And the FB Offers page in Recruiting hasn't been updated since last October.
It’s pronounced “Thee”.
Great stuff Zack. Thanks.
scarlet and grey gray
FIFY. I hate to be that guy but it’s more than semantics, it’s a critical distinction. We’ll chalk it up to a typo (and mum’s the word with Bill Simmons).
From no less an authority than The Ohio State University style guide:
Scarlet and gray in combination are as well known as our name. They are our signature colors by which our audiences identify us as Ohio State.
No need to apologize because that needs to be corrected. But you ARE that guy, every day, on every single comment thread, so saying that you hate to do it is disingenuous, at best.

And you have a nice day, too, Brutus.
I didn't downvote either of your comments or the one telling me to grab a snack, but my God, at least just own it. You correct everyone around here all the time. There's someone at work who says "well actually" in every conversation she's a part of, and it's annoying as hell. Btw, I had a nice day, and I hope you did too.
Zack, I have 2 other names to add to the H-back/slot position and would like your input...
1) Jaelyn Gill and 2) 2021 target Emeke Egbuke. Gill still has a lot of potential and I can see him playing that position. Hopefully he won’t be the odd man out like McCall. And Egbuke is listed as an ATH but I’ve been hearing OSU likes him as a WR. He has a strong interest in OSU too. Which is why I like OSU chances to have Ballard, Harrison Jr, Collins, Stellato and Egbuke all commit. Your thoughts??
Gill is such an an amazing athlete I can't imagine him not developing into a key player next year. Keep grinding, Jaelen.
Not the 11w recruiting guy, but there is 0 chance Osu takes 5 wr next class. As he said in the OP, the “H” isn’t really a thing in day’s offense.
The Buckeyes, though, will need to use at least one of them – again, I think it's Fleming – to play right away to provide depth behind Olave, Wilson, Gill and Jaylen Harris.
You left Jameson Williams out again. But no worries. Thanks for taking my question.
But “If I was Styles, I would go to Notre Dame. I would want to expand my horizons and live in another state to get more experiences being outside of the area I've lived in for so long” makes no sense from a son of an ex-Buckeye and your family is 25 minutes away.
If styles would just consider being a db he would be in the class.. We are in on so many good wide outs in the 21 class that I seen AE or someone from the site say that harrison Jr should commit soon or he cld be left out... That's a nice problem to have for hartline.. He will bring the best in.. I hope we take at least 4 receivers in that class.. To much talent not to
I really enjoy your writing Zack, but I have a serious question. Are you of the general opinion that local guys should go out of state to expand their horizons, or was that specific to Styles? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it just struck me as odd to say that. It’s one thing to say you think Styles will go to ND. It’s also another thing to say someone perhaps even should go elsewhere, given the depth chart. But to say they should go elsewhere to get out of State and expand their horizons struck me as odd for an OSU writer.
When coming to writing these stories I prefer opinions and maybe inside info over hearing we are the best at everything and how can a player turn us down either a Ohio kid or a kid from France. Myself as a long time recruit nic pay more attention to Bill K for one and others of trust in the OSU house over others that are national who come on our sites and snow ball us to keep the excitement flowing. There are some not sure why they have a job that are out side the OSU beat their CB % is below the 50% mark.
