Bradford out.

Guru says not coming.

Man, I don't know how you watch a game like that and decide you don't want to be part of it, but if so, onto the next target.

HS

It might not have only been his decision

There's a little bit more to it than that

Can someone please explain what happened with Bradford? I was hearing last night that he’s not coming to OSU, but I haven’t heard what exactly happened or why he’s basically off the board now. Did he actually take a visit and tell the coaches No Thanks at the end? Strange.

This will be interesting going forward with the Miller and Stroud. I suspect that Ohio State would prefer Stroud over Miller. Stroud came on his own dime and his quarterback coach Quincy Avery tagged along, that's in itself is telling. There's no way that Ohio State is signing 2 quarterbacks, those days are over with the transfer portal in place. I wouldn't be shocked if Miller down the road decommited.

HS

I’m betting they both show up, red shirt next year behind Fields, and (assuming Fields goes pro) they’ll battle it out in 2021. Loser enters the transfer portal.

HS
mtrotb's picture

Nope, if both come one needs to play next year to get experience.  Preferably as 2nd team and Hoak will just have to suck it up and stay 3rd team as both Fields & Hoak will be gone after 2020 and it is imperative to get a returning QB action to be ready for 2021.

For some reason I thought Chug had one more year...looks like he does not. Will be interesting....I still think both stay through next year regardless of who the backup is. The question will be does the loser transfer after the 2020 season or try one more time in Spring 2021.

HS

Neither will start because Kyle McCord is a stud. McCord is going to be special I am telling you right now.

McCord is definitely a stud. It'll be interesting to see if he can win the job right away. I still think the staff needs to be transparent with Miller. If he had no injury history then I don't think we are recruiting another QB, but he has been. I still love his talent and think that he could be very special, but the best ability is availability.

I will pound and pound you until you quit

The staff has been very transparent with him. There were recent comments by both Miller and his dad saying that the coaches have been very open about the whole process and have said that they need to bring in another QB because they need another body in the room. Their comments seemed to be understanding and were ok with it.

Both are needed. We don't have a lot of quality depth. Both would be great. However getting another 12 months later might be a challenge. We're going to let coach Day and staff handle that diplomacy. Wasn't too long ago that our 3rd string QB led us to amazing wins over Michigan, Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon. I would repeat that story 100 times because it's true.
Keep clise contact with Mr. Smith. It's probably down to Stanford, Florida and us. Only we will be in the final 4 later this year. He's damned good. Not that the others aren't but reach for the top.

I just like the sound of it. CJ Stroud from Cucamonga, California.

Rancho Cucamonga is where the show Workaholics is set in, which makes me want him more.

Wow is that Hunter Wohler a ball player! My gawd can he cover ground quickly and lay the wood when he gets there.  I hope we get him, and not his hometown University.  He kinda reminds me of Rob Kelley.

So if we get Stroud, Watts, Bradford and Baron does that mean the staff would say no to Ricks?  I don't have any information to say Ricks is waivering on his commitment to LSU but playing with Lejond he may in the future and he does still have an official scheduled with OSU in November.  Seeing the Buckeyes first hand may cause him to want to flip.  Could OSU make room if he wanted to flip?

HS
Bucks19's picture

Ricks isn’t coming here. Unless there is a major deal at LSU, he’s headed there.

HS
buckeye-bengal's picture

I know most are saying he is staying with LSU, my question is if they would have room for him or would they tell him no?

HS
Dstacify's picture

There is a major deal at LSU. Burrow is gone after this year and right now he's basically carrying that team on his back. I guarantee LSU will take a major step back next season without Joe under center.

HS
Bucks19's picture

Burrow has nothing to do with Ricks. And LSU will take him regardless of who else commits.

HS
Dstacify's picture

What it affects is how competitive LSU will be post-Burrow. If Ricks cares about winning most of all (which I'm sure he does) OSU is clearly the better choice. LSU was struggling as a program before Burrow showed up and they will go back to struggling next year once he leaves.

By the time he’s on campus, nobody will know what post Burrow era looks like.

Winning? LSU is on a roll. The sell will be “you be the man on defense!”

Not everyone can or wants to come to Ohio State

I think you can always add a QB through the transfer portal but its better to get them here early.

If I were a senior in High School and one of the top RB's in the country, and I watched this offense operate, I would be leaping off my chair to commit to this program. 24 carries is perfect...you'll learn how to block and be ready to play on Sunday...honestly, what's not to like. Plus, OSU has shown a propensity to use 2 RB's even if they have one "Bell Cow". I know for a fact that the coaches are always honest with the players, which is so important (not to just blow sunshine up their ass!). I'll say this...which ever RB watches this season...and just has a knot in his stomach b/c it makes him sick to think he won't be a part of this Class, and I do mean physically ill, THAT'S THE KID I WANT. He will wind up being an absolute Bull, and it will be fun to watch him play. So let's not worry about who says "No, Thanks", let's get WIRED about who is going to qualify to take the lone RB spot in this special class. Go Bucks...enjoy your week off men. And always remember (when you go home this weekend)...Don't be a Dumb-Ass!!! Cheers.

What I would like to know is why the hell are people commenting that Bradford isn’t coming now, when in this Hurry Up it was said he liked what he saw, etc. someone please clear this up!!

HS
EvanstonBuckeye's picture

FWIW, AE put a CB in for Bradford to Wisky and said in the 2020 Class forum that he wouldn't be a focus going forward.

HS
weimerad's picture

That’s another thing I’m not liking about this site lately. Andrew Ellis makes his CB for recruits and doesn’t ever give his reasons.  I ask him all the time what his reasons are but he never explains himself

HS
chris's picture

While I understand your frustration with being in the dark, I also accept that AE may sometimes have information that he's not at liberty to fully share. I appreciate that he does share what he can, though. I doubt he's withhold his reasons except when he must.

HS

His CB tells you everything he knows, without saying anything, nothing else matters.

What QB prospect would not see this group of committed WRs and not want in?! The future here at WRU is so bright it's blinding.

Birm's comments on Bradford...

https://lettermenrow.com/ohio-state-football-recruiting/ohio-state-buckeyes-football-recruiting-cj-stroud-kevontre-bradford-tyler-baron/

There’s not a single position we’ve talked about more in the 2020 cycle than the running back position and as we said a few days ago, the battle to add a tailback this year had its first real push since July over the weekend. Ohio State had Lancaster (Texas) 4-star Kevontre “Tre” Bradford in town for his official visit after offering him a scholarship in early August.

The visit for Bradford was similar to the visit for Stroud in that it was his first visit to the school and in a lot of ways, it was more of an “interview.” The Buckeyes are trying to get a better read on who he is and how he’d fit in their program.

It’s easy to see the talent on tape but it’s not always as easy to see how guys mesh personality-wise and in a place like Ohio State that is as important as anything else during a player’s recruitment. There remains work to be done in this regard for the Buckeyes and Bradford.

Right now, the relationship is still being cultivated and there will be no slowdown from Ohio State in getting more familiar with Bradford or any other interested running back but if you were expecting an answer this weekend that’s not coming. The Buckeyes will still have Miyan Williams, the Iowa State commitment, get on campus soon in Columbus and continue their pursuit of Georgia Tech verbal Jahmyr Gibbs as well.

2017 Elite 11 focused on Justin Fields.  2019 had a feel good story on Stroud.  Initially Jack Miller was picked at the Southern California regional on a rainy windy day.  Stroud did not get an invite but drove all the way to Northern California for another shot.  He walked away empty pocketed again.  DJ Uagilelei then decided to drop out of the elite 11 and Stroud took his spot.  He would go on to mesh with future Ohio State wide receivers and win the 2019 elite 11 qb MVP.  It was a feel good story.  I just hope he goes to Ohio State and rips it up.

Unless your new to this recruiting circus these gurus get priv information and once they spill the beans that source will be gone forever so they remain quite of what they know. Another thing these kids love to do the hat thing and do all kinds of other things when they announce and want to be center stage for their 2 minutes of fame. Many times these so called gurus are wrong as many times correct and change their minds more than I change my under wear that's why certain ones I flat out ignore and a couple not sure how they got to be top dog to begin with. Just remember everyone and their brother thought our rb position was a lock a few months ago and look what happened. I'm no guru but listen to all these guys and jmo we flip two rb's to come here to fill out the position or go with the Iowa St. kid and call it a day. After all he was runner up to Mr.Football and will probably win it this year why wouldn't we want him. Miller scares me as being fragile and how bad where the injuries he already has had. Other than that both qb's will be very good and I too like the kid from Philly a lot.

OMG please Mr. Wohler become a Buckeye. Nothing I enjoy more than watching hits like this kid gives out. Covers a lot space quick and means business when he greets the ball carrier.

HS
AlltimeTE's picture

Sad OSU is relegated to flipping a RB from either Iowa St. or Ga Tech.   Something about Alford is not attractive to these kids.

HS
Dstacify's picture

Ok, this damn Alford BS needs to stop. The guy is one of the best in the country at developing RBs, the way both Dobbins and Teague look right now is proof of that. Just because we've missed on a couple five stars does NOT mean Alford should be sent packing because of it. Firing a position coach due to a few recruiting misses rarely happens and doing so would hurt RB recruiting more than help it, that much I can guarantee you. Alford may not be quite on the level of Hartline or Hafley when it comes to recruiting but he's still damn good at his job.

11 Strong.
