The Buckeyes had more yards against the vaunted MSU defense than both TTUN and Iowa had total in their game.

Another crazy stat - we had more yards IN THE 2ND QUARTER ALONE than either team had for the entire game!

Exactly. I think even my decrepit body, with crackling knees and stiff back and barely functioning shoulders, might have done enough to win that game.

I had planned to watch the entire Michigan game, but a friend called halfway through the third quarter and asked if I'd like to come help him watch his grass grow.

I asked him if he had any scotch, and he said 'no.'

It was still a better option.

We should never take them lightly, just based on the fact that it is a rivalry game. Their offense, however, is horrific. Never thought I would see the day that a Harbaugh offense would look so poor, and yet, here we are!

The fans can, but the players and coaches don't. Honestly even if the players sleepwalk through the first half, you'd still end up winning by at least 5 touchdowns. This offense has not improved even a little bit since the first game, there's no chance that by time The Game comes, that it'll be formidable enough to keep pace with you guys.

HS
My Dad Is A Wolverine But I'm A Buckeye's picture

Despite what is staring me in the face in regards to U of M's offense, I cannot ever take them lightly. It could be a reverse scenario of the 2018 version of The Game where you guys blow us out of the water. Since it is a rivalry game, you just never know...

It looked like ttun kept sending three rushers to the side of the formation that didn’t have TE in tight. That left the Iowa RB to try and consistently block a much larger rusher. We are still waiting for Iowa to adjust.

This continues the narrative that ttun swallows bad teams but god teams that give an extra second of protection will pick them apart.

HS
MGOBLUE0205's picture

I understand the criticism of the defense, but hey at least they can do some positive things. Harbaugh and Gattis can't do anything right offensively, which to me shows Harbaugh has lost whatever few marbles he ever had.

I said they can do some positive things. I never said they were elite or even as good as years past. Michigan's offense can't do anything except against Rutgers. Iowa isn't very good, but there was positives on defense. Didn't think that was such a ridiculous take.

Honestly, though, was our defense really tested considering how impotent MSU’s offense was/is? By the same token, Michigan held Iowa to three points but was that because Michigan’s defense is good or because Iowa’s offense sucks (or a combination of both)? Giving up 35 points to Wisconsin is still a much better metric. The Badgers in three weeks will be our biggest test, too—they will also be ours and Michigan’s first common foe.

Wait until the UM/Sparty game. The first team to 7 is going to win. Sparty still has a good enough defense to completely shut Michigan down. If they can only score 10 on Iowa's average at best defense, they won't score at all on Sparty.

As much as I read every word of 11W, and I do, please keep linking to TTUNBlog. I’ve read waaaaaay more of their fan comments than I’d like to admit.  The desperation. The confusion. Not knowing what to do or where to go next.  The slow, sad realization that Harbaugh might not be the second coming of Fielding Yost. The slow realization that the losses to OSU will continue. The fear that Day is better than Urban (no argument here).  It’s just so, satisfying!!

HS
MGOBLUE0205's picture

As a Michigan fan who's usually negative about my team on this board and rightfully so, I'll start off with a couple positives. It was good to see Kwity Paye actually have another good game, and get a few sacks on an All Big10 Lineman. The redshirt Freshman MLB Cam Mcgrone is showing why he was a highly rated recruit. He made some mistakes/bad angles but for his 2nd start he played well and his speed/explosiveness to the ball is something we haven't seen since Bush last year. The 5 star safety Daxton Hill really had a great game, showing great closing speed on the deflection that Thomas picked off, as well as the ability to tackle in space. He's going to have bigger roles going forward. He does need to hit the weight room this offseason, as right now he is built more like a CB than a safety. Now to this dreadful offense. I really don't know where to start. I had a chance to attend the game with my dad(who still has season tickets since before I was born), but I let my brother go instead because I knew even if Michigan won it would be ugly. Anyways, they both said they watched Michigan's recievers after the ball is snapped and said that none of them can get open. Now that's something you can't see on TV, but to me it's puzzling. I understand that Collins, Black, and DPJ aren't necessarily quick, they are more top end fast. Either these guys aren't as good as I thought as far as their route running, or Gattis's routes in general are too basic I'm not sure. I do notice Michigan doesn't run the type of clear out routes that I saw the Buckeyes using against Sparty, or crossing routes for that matter. But still, Patterson hit Collins deep and he was covered, but it didn't matter because they had the size advantage on Iowa's DBs. Yet for whatever reason, Gattis never took another deep shot the entire game. It seems to me that the majority of our patterns are 15 yards or less, is it because Patterson's arm is so lousy? I'm not sure. The running game is just as bad, they have nothing to the outside, everything is right up the gut. And someone tell me what the point of doing the read option is, if Patterson is never going to keep it? 90% of the time it goes up the middle. I hope Charbonnet isn't completely healthy, because in space he couldn't and didn't even try to make the 1 guy there for the tackle miss. My hope is that once Michigan is out of the race in the East, which will be after PSU, Harbaugh will go with McCaffrey or Milton the rest of the way. There is absolutely no point in playing Patterson anymore especially after Indy is out in a couple weeks. Paterson in the last 5 games against the Big10(not counting Rutgers) has a 55% Completion rate, 7tds and 6ints. I find it hard to believe that McCaffrey and even Milton could play worse than that, yet it's not even debatable as far as Harbaugh is concerned. Patterson has done nothing to keep his job. Harbaugh says the offense is hitting it's stride, yet nobody in the media challenges him to explain how he can say that. It's a complete joke and I really believe at Indiana will be a loss now as well.

Indiana is due, they've had so many close games vs OSU and Michigan, they deserve one sometime. I'm glad you are offering up the W to them! :-)

Threat level low? Definitely. I just can't conceive of any way Michigan could beat OSU.

However, they are likely to beat Illinois, Maryland, and Indiana, bringing them to 7 wins. Losing to OSU is 2 losses.

What do you think will happen vs. PSU, ND, and MSU? I think Michigan wins at least one of those, possibly two. Thing is, even if Michigan miraculously won all three, they would still lose to OSU.
