I was hoping they'd win for just this reason. UCF was anointed the golden goose of the Group of 5, so UC wining can only be a good thing.

Cincinnati’s defense was very impressive. Freeman called a helluva game.
Concur. The Bearcats D was all over UCF's uptempo offense.
Tip of the hat to the Bearcat fans, who made Nippert loud all game long, especially when UC needed them most.

Late to the commenting on this one, but I think they were always good - I just think this year's Ohio State team is already playing on another level. We shall see tonight if that is indeed correct. I'm rooting for UC now that we've played them - I hope they go the distance.
Number one, win the rivalry game. And number two, win every game after that.
It doesn’t matter if they’re number 1 right now, only matters in January. I don’t want that target on them right now.
Meanwhile, in Clemson......
Been saying it all week. Cincinnati is a more impressive win than Nebraska. Yes, Nebraska was a road win in front of 80,000; but Cincinnati's defense is a legit top 10 unit, and the Bucks moved up and down the field at will on them. Nebraska's defense is softer than wet toilet paper.
Tom Brady lost to John Cooper. Never forget.
Before our game with Cincy, I said I would take them over half the BIG as well as other conferences and a I thought it would be a toss for all but a few of the rest in the BIG.
Fickell has a hella defense going down there.
I was impressed by how well they played against UCF. Buuuut, UCF seems to be a bit down this year, and the Cincy offense is pretty I'm terrible.
Truthfully, I feel like Cincy is probably on par with Sparty at the moment.
Whoso would be a man, must be a non-conformist.
Anyone who ends the season with a SOS in the triple digits should be left out of the playoffs despite their record. I know that they can’t help who is in their conference, but they could schedule a better OOC. Which would happen if the committee really starts using SOS as it should be used.
Or they could at least force ND and them to play every year since ND is fake in that conference.
Thanks for sharing Yertle.
Let's Go Bucks
UC had two turnovers in the red zone and a blocked kick against OSU. It could have easily been 42-17. Also, to date, UC has held OSU to its lowest point total of the season. UC’s defense is good. I was at the game and was surprised with how many passes were broken up in man to man coverage. I’m also glad it seemed like they knew how to tackle in the backfield in the second half. Huge win for UC, hopefully by the end of the year the optics of the OSU domination of UC will garner more national respect.
I agree with you that UC could have scored 3 points that one time, but the FG attempt was blocked by Chase, not missed. I agree with you in the second half they got in the red zone again, but Tuff intercepted the ball, not a broken play. That's like saying, UC could have been up 7-0 if Ridder runs for 99 yards on his first play instead of 0 yards. Yes, they could have scored on OSU;s 3rd team defense, but they fumbled, but again, that was 3rd team. OSU earned that score. It was 28-0 at the half and there was no reason OSU couldn't have finished the 2nd half at 56-0 if they wanted to. OSU is that good. UC is still going to be a ranked team this week.
"When you're part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they'd do the same for you." Yogi Berra
Tavion Thomas is UC’s third string running back. My post wasn’t meant to be a slight against OSU or some moral victory bs. OSU, like I mentioned in the original post, dominated UC. They earned that shutout. Thoroughly from start to finish, in each phase of the game, Uc was clearly overmatched. I think most people in the nation will look at the 42-0 and say “yeah that’s exactly what was supposed to happen”. At the end of the year if they see 42-0 against a team that’s ranked and is 10-2 they might put a little more stock into that victory, at least I hope.
Idk where some of you are getting that UC will be ranked this coming week. They garnered 0 votes last week so they weren't on the borderline of being ranked this week. Yes it's an impressive win over a ranked Groupof5 opponent but it's exactly that a Groupof5 opponent not a ranked P5. They're best win beside that was a 10 point win over an abysmal UCLA team? c'mon i get the hometown love but let's be realistic UC isn't getting ranked this weekend. Maybe by end of year if they run the table. Also someone who mentioned Top10 defense you must be crazy. Look at who they have played..Nobody. It's a good defense but not anywhere near Top10
I don’t think they’ll be ranked but if they finish 10-2 they should. I’d also like to put a heavy emphasis on if. Ridder seems to have untimely turnovers, that interception at the end for the second quarter last time was a back breaker, and the o line needs some work.
UC's best wins are better than two loss ranked Texas A&M's best win against Arkansas so....
Yes Mindsufr, and A&M was blown out twice, UC was blown out once. I feel A&M should move out, especially considering they now lost to Auburn who is now a 1 loss team, and their best victories are over a suspect A&M team, and an Oregon team that is getting shutout at halftime, at home to Cal (right now).
Snake: CBS Sports has them in the rankings now: "21. Cincinnati (NR): Here's where we think the Bearcats land, just behind the undefeated Demon Deacons but ahead of the one-loss Wahoos. The thinking here is that Cincinnati's win over UCF gets weight over Virginia's best win, which is either at Pitt or at home against Florida State, and the Bearcats' loss at Ohio State gets leverage against Virginia's lone loss at Notre Dame".
Good for Coach Fickell. Good for UC. Good for us.
The question is, how long will Fic be at UC? As long as he doesn't go.... there... I will root for him wherever he goes!
Fickell would never go there. I also don’t believe he is leaving UC for anything other than OSU or a place like ND. 0% chance he goes to TTUN.
He turned down WVU, right? MSU or Tennessee, then? If he doesn’t want a job like that, then he might be at UC for another decade. Let’s make sure not to schedule UC again, that’s a zero-sum game at the moment.
If Fickell's there another decade, UC will consistently be a top 20 team just by plucking all the Ohio talent schools like OSU, Notre Dame, Michigan, etc. don't recruit. They would be a quality opponent you could easily schedule once every five years.
MSU might be opening up after this season. Odds are very high it’ll be Mike Tressel getting job though.
Assume this is 100% conjecture since I’ve heard zero rumblings of this? Mike Tressel would not be a frightening hire.
I live 10 miles from East Lansing and it’s pretty prevalent in the local sports media that this might be his last season.
Interesting. I won’t miss his grumpy ass. Former OSU assistant or not, he’s just an angry, unlikable dude.
How are these ratings calculated?

UC proved what most buckeye fans knew all along, they have a legit defense and are a pretty solid team all around.
It was a sneaky good win for us and makes me think MSU has even less of a chance tonight if we play well. Cincy very well could end up the top ranked group of 5 team at the end of the season.
RealTimeRPI seems a little "off". Clemson #1? UCF #20 and UC is #46 lol.
Yeah, so much for ratings. Every year this happens. I hope the Buckeyes stay at #3 all season and then whup every team in the playoffs. Historically it seems, whenever we are #1, we lose.

We’ve never been number one with Ryan Day coaching. I’d welcome the opportunity.
Hey, this messes up the narrative that OSU hasn't played anybody good.
Surely, UC sucked, even if it was just that one day.

Interesting. Thank you for sharing.
We know the bearcats are good.. However, they are in the rearview at this point. I hope the tam just keeps moving forward and getting better each week. GO BUCKS!
Pigskins & Porkrinds
I regret being too tired to watch the entire game now. I went to bed with Cincy leading 10-6 but thought eventually their bend but don’t break defense would get worn down. I thought their offense had very few answers and was just hoping they could keep it close. I am very happy about their win.
Glad I was there to witness the upset first hand. It was a great game in a highly charged environment. Crowd was fired up the whole night. If you didn't see the game, make sure to watch Michael Warren's 60 yd run in the 3rd-electric!
UC isn't out of the woods, yet. They finish the season with a home game against Temple and then have to go to Memphis. Then there'll be an AAC CCG. I hope Coach Fickell and company can make it through unscathed. Great win last night, though.
Oh, and the Bearcats' Twitter game is exceptional.

That is some pretty solid shade if I do say so myself.
I have been telling people since the beginning of the year that the fighting Fickells are a legit top 25 team. There is just a huge drop off from the top 8 and teams 15-25. UC could be a legit 12-13 team when the season is over. For them, that equates to a 42 point loss to Ohio Stste or any top 5 team. Just the nature of talent difference between top 5 and everyone else
This does seem to be the case more so this year than in most years past.
Fickell is having a ball at Cinci- Happy for him and hope he continues to do well.
