The hilarity continues up north!
But . . . but . . . another Michigan thread? Oh the horror! (tic)
Barney Fife lives, and he lives among us.
I like the UM fan that suggested they forfeit the game against the Buckeyes. That’s some pure gold.
Fields of Dreams
I like the UM fan that suggested they forfeit the game against the Buckeyes. That’s some guaranteed pure gold pants.
Bring on the chair!
Trust me! I'm an Engineer.
Al Washington & Greg Mattison on their way to The Shoe when they saw the TUN halftime score:
Everyone always talked about how good Don Brown’s defensive chops are, but I wonder if part of that success came from Greg Mattison, and with Mattison gone, they’re now exposed. Mattison has sure improved our defense from what we were a year ago. Maybe Mattison was more important for Michigan’s success then previously believed.
If I must choose between peace and righteousness, I choose righteousness! -Theodore Roosevelt.
Ryan Day was really playing chess not checkers when he took their two best defensive coaches. Incredible.
Makes you wonder, did Day spends hours upon hours watching film of them. Only to decide how to gut them and ensure that he gets the most important W at the end of the season, while getting another dub by sending that entire luny bin into a tailspin?
I do, I really think day is that smart, that determined and that cold blooded to his foes. Not calling him cold blooded in real life but in the profession yes. It is always the nice kind people who can do the most damage.
Greg Mattison > Don Brown
With that being said , do you leave a program that has a chance to be conference or national champions? The writing was on the wall these coaches want to win , and it was a perfect marriage of need and use .
"Vitalum Vitalis "
A former NFL coach who also co-led the 06 National title Florida defense & the only guy on their staff who coached at UM the last time they were relevant in the 90's? Naw, he's expendable. Just pull the brinks truck into Don Brown's driveway.
Greg Mattison is a heck of a coach, so grateful to have him.
It was a catch.
I've thought about this too. The only thing I worry about is that same defense was terrible against top 25 offenses. I just hope that part doesn't translate over.
Yes, but OSU has several other high quality defensive coaches, and far more speed and talent than anything he ever had at UM. I get that UM had some big time players, but nothing like what we have, both in top end NFL talent and depth.
# Hail mediocrity
I do not at all have the mind of a bully... in my mind bullies are intolerant of contrary opinion, domineering and rather cowardly.
You give them too much credit.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
They are the definition of mediocre. Beat the B1G bottom feeders and directional schools; lose to the good teams.
Harbaugh's press conference has to be a pretty clear sign of the end of days for the _ichigan hopeful. Rarely have I seen a press conference after a loss that was just so utterly devoid of any semblance of hope, anger, determination to get better, clear identification of the issues at hand... I guess it was lacking in what is commonly defined as leadership from your head coach under such circumstances. It's like he was so beat down he didn't even care anymore. He looked like a man who has checked out. I don't know how you come back to practice after looking like that in the game as a team, and then in front of the media/world postgame and inspire them to get back to work. Hopefully the players have more fire than Harbaugh does.
Hopefully the players have more fire than Harbaugh
Press conference was a soap opera. Everything King of Khakis said his team should be at this point , is about 4 months too late.
Has that douche actually cleared nearly $30M in salary since becoming the HC? Amazing.
Just pop them early and they will quit. No heart in that team. It starts at the top.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer ate their hearts.
What comes under 'LOW?'
"It's always scotch-thirty on my island."
At last, Kerry had cracked open his first Red Bull with an impatient delight. And the rest, as they say, was history.
I knew it would be one of the 5 Stages of Grievance.
Ding ding. Wondered if a new category would be listed for this edition. Low doesn't exactly encapsulate it.
What comes under 'LOW?'
Enjoying daily the back to back ttun beatdowns.
Those wolverine tears pile up quick
yep, that's what I saw in Camp Randal!
So, I was listening to Barrett Sallee and Greg McElroy this morning on Sirius, and all talk was about TTUN. Sallee brought up John U. Bacon's book that claims (paraphrasing here) Michigan's high (Sallee said "like Harvard") academic standards are making it impossible for them to be competitive in recruiting and, this, winning. This is a perfect example of what "Low" on the threat level meter refers to.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
Actually, I think it’s a perfect example of how clueless Barrett Sallee is.
“I intend to make Georgia howl.” General William Tecumseh Sherman
Definitely not as good as Taylor Zarzor was, IMO. McElroy didn't buy it, BTW.
I can tolerate McElroy. I can’t stand Sallee, or Zarsour (btw did he get shit canned by ESPN or moved full time to the golf channel, which illustrates how much he knew about football). But was it Auburn grad (I should have been a landscaper like everyone else in my class) Sallee or was it Dandy Danny Kannell?
i also listen to SXM, but noticed it’s been McElroy and Kannell on the morning show.
I'm pretty sure I heard them say it was Sallee. Also, the screen on my dash said it was him and McElroy. I could always be wrong, of course!
As for Taylor, I'm not sure what happened with him. I never minded him too much.
No offense intended for any landscapers. I’ve just had bad experiences with 3 landscapers, and all were Auburn grads.
I usually direct people with this stance to look up the top 100 schools in the US. You'll find us higher than many of the "cerebrally gifted" institutions they name. Sure, Chicago, UM, Wisconsin, NW and Illinois are higher in the B1G... However, 6th out of 15 is pretty good when you're 1st at everything else.
I don't think anything is funnier than the descriptions in the threat levels you have now.
Don't change anything. This series gets better and better.
OSU didn't execute and lost to horrible officiating. BOTH things can be true
It's even funnier now that the average freshmen ACT score at OSU is like 29-30. What will they hang their hats on now? Overseas trips?
Even that is going away for them...
It’s clearly not working so if I’m the alum who’s been funding that boondoggle, I’d say it’s not generating the ROI I expected and I’ve had enough of this nonsense.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
They haven't quite figured out Day yet, so they'll probably say that Meyer was somehow friends with Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman and got football players in that way.
Can travel the world , but can’t get to INDY!
And yes, bring on the chair.
[Jim Harbaugh quote: What will happen will happen, what won't happen won't happen.]
I have to admit that I am just being a bit guarded in my enjoyment of their predicament because I still want to see our guys not have a Purdue or Iowa this year. Just like when the Buckeyes truly got the SEC monkey off their backs against Bama, given those two past losses and the MSU stumble a few years back (and the Clemson game) that I am careful to not be overly joyful of their troubles. Hate karma.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
“Tresselconda style”...classic, just classic
Yeah, that was a great turn of phrase.
Threat level hopeless...sure, they could fix the penalties, they could stop the turnovers, the OL could play up to expectations, Gattis could turn into a good playcaller, Shea could stop seeing ghosts before passing, Harbaugh could change back to a human from a zombie, and Zach Charbonnet could get healthy or walkon Tru Wilson could be decent if he gets healthy.
That's a lot of ifs, but one thing that's not an if is that they don't really have an interior defensive line. Having NFL talent at WR and DB doesn't matter if you can't block/run or stop the run. Their absolute best case scenario IMO is they figure out the offense a little and win games kind of like the Buckeyes last year. I don't remember a more unbalanced team in terms of talent...would love to know if others here have examples.
1. On the long pass play to Bell we have 9 wide receivers with enough speed to outrun a Wisconsin safety.
2. Maybe this year more Juniors and seniors will sit out the Ohio State game so they don't get injured or hurt their draft stock.
High and tight boo boo
TTUN still has the same speed level as last year: two strides behind the other team.
I think Day could run the same plays this year against them as he did last year and the Buckeyes would still score 49 points.
Here's to hopping Day goes to AA on 11/30 with an "he-may-have-survived-7-beatings-from-Urban-but-it's-only-going-to-take-one-from-me" attitude.
North until you smell it, west until you step in it
However this year ends up going for them overall, I've gotta believe that losing to tOSU again, and with a first year head coach at the helm no less will absolutely be the final nail in Harbaugh's coffin.
Coach Day, please have no mercy.
Really hope he hangs 70+ and keeps them under 20 this time.
The 62 looks a bit tarnished by the 39 next to it.
Just logged in to say I appreciate the Jurassic Park reference in the cover picture. Spot on!
The whole ttun thing is definitely a mystery -wrapped in a riddle -wrapped in an enigma... oh yeah that is Harbaugh, what was I thinking... (staying over at a recruits house is certainly all those things packaged neatly in a khaki package )
The silly ichigan man thing may be the problem. If rich rod, Brady hoke and hairball are "ichigan" men, then let's keep that shit show rollin
Actually RichRod was not a michigan man. Thats why he got run out so fast. And I still maintain that firing him was a mistake. He started slowly but in his 3 years went from 3-9 to 5-7 to 7-5 so he was clearly on the right trajectory and I see no reason to believe that had he been given a 4th year it would have been any worse than Brady Hokes 11-2 first season. Especially given the fact that Hoke had the exact opposite progression in his 4 years.
Except now we know how things ended for him in Arizona. Can’t slay it was a mistake at this point. He simply was a one hit wonder at WV, and his dreams didn’t play defense at an elite level at any of his three stops, save one season at WV.
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
Maybe a new, lower, threat level should be added to the chart. For some reason the phrase "Spoiled Potato Salad" just feels right.
Ttun will roll Rutgers this weekend by 30+ and every single Wolverine will think they fixed the problem. Then they will get their teeth kicked in the next time they play a good team and they will melt down all over again. It's a beautiful thing to watch. It really is.
One more thing, there's a thread of 7 Reasons why Harbaugh will never be fired on MGo. What I'm about to say is true, one of the reasons given is because he's good looking. He's JFK Jr. to this poster. Someone needs to post the picture above in that thread or the shirtless football game pic so the OP can re-evaluate that reason.
Nah, they will squeak out an ugly win over Rutgers.
"Ryan Day is our Baby Yoda. We must protect him with our lives." ~ D. J. Byrnes
Agreed I think TTUN struggles in this game , their heart was really taken out and curb stomped last week. They only win because it’s a home game and NJ Rutgers May just be slightly worse than them , slightly ( lee corso voice )
I just watched the BTN in 60 replay, and there is nothing about Michigan that worries me. Their D is toothless and their QB situation is hilariously hopeless: Patterson is the worst 5* QB in CFB since Shane Morris.
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster...
Just needed to prove you wrong.
So he would taken the job he was never offered, according to the guy who never offered it because they wanted NC State's guy. He then went 11-2 at WSU that season.
Seek help lol
He'd leave the Northwest. You completely made that shit up.
You're just wrong
Do you want my autograph or something?
I'm trying to think of a nice way to tell you to go jump on a lake while incorporating 'lol'...
Honestly, you can look at my profile or whatever and see I don't downvote very often, but you're almost disagreeable enough to get one on sight. My opinion, which hasn't changed, is that Leach is in too good a situation now to move to a pressure cooker like UM.
What about the guy at NW?
Please God. Never let this end.
One thing I think many are missing about Harbaugh and his Gattis hiring, and didn’t occur to me until tonight, is the following. Everyone rightly questions hiring a guy who’s never called plays, and who Saban was willing to let walk and not allow to call plays for his offense, but this entailed a wholesale change in scheme. Harbaugh hired a neophyte to INSTALL a new offense for his team!
Yeah, and he wasn't even the brains of the operation. Then they said do what you did at Alabama. Except, at Alabama, they literally had top-100 talent at every position. TTUN has maybe 5 top-100 guys on the entire roster. "Here, fix me the finest porterhouse steak dinner you can by microwaving the patties from that cold Big Mac."
I'll work for helmet stickers!
Johnny - this read was Ramzy-esque in turning a phrase. Tresselconda! Outstanding!
Interesting signature line
Michigan faithful were talking about the ease of admission to Wisconsin during the game. The script became reality.
Is it possible that after Harbaugh leaves soon that they are dumb enough to hire another average m man and continue the mediocrity? Or actually sign a Matt Campbell type coach who could turn them around even though the new coach has no previous ties to the school?
Banks of olentangy
I still don't know if Wisconsin is really good, which sucks. I did learn that UM is genuinely bad, which is pretty awesome. Long live the threat meter!
That's the big trouble with that game. It didn't give us a good read on Wisconsin. TTUN was just so clueless on defense. It isn't like you don't know what Wisconsin is going to throw at you. And TTUN was always lost.
You've got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.
That tressleconda don’t want none if you can’t punt hun
All Glory is Fleeting
They are funny to laugh at now. But there's still a chance they figure it all out and start to play well by November.
They'll need to find an interim coach who isn't on the staff now and visit the wizard to find heart, brains, and courage ... but it could happen.
Success - it's what you do with what you've got. - Woody Hayes
I debated with a few UM fans on here when they said it was a given that that Don Brown will have another top 5 defense. I said the would take a step back just because speeding up the offense means more plays on defense but also they didn't have the depth. It turns out I was right but not because of speeding up the offense but because of limited ball control like last year. I said then they would lose 4 and now it looks to me to be 5. The only concern there is the deep ball.
i hope and pray that idiot coached that team FOREVER ....
He's coaching like he wants to tank to get a buyout.
On Mgoblog they're thinking Harbaugh's lack of energy is due to CTE from 15 years in the NFL.
You simply can't make this stuff up. CTE!
Nah! He was nuts when he was in college.
I'm at the age where food has taken the place of sex in my life. In fact, I've just had a mirror put over my kitchen table. - Rodney Dangerfield
I was pulling for the lifetime contract.
I'm just conflicted between wanting UM to fall into a never ender puddle of mediocrity and not wanting The Game to not lose significance to the point of having to explain to my grandkids why it's such a big deal.
I laughed loud and long at the "analyst" contention that UM can't recruit because of high academic standards. So I'm supposed to believe that Jabril Peppers, Taylor Lewan, etc, were honor students? And if Desmond Howard isn't the DUMBEST college football analyst of all-time, I don't know who is.
I have to laugh. I saw on a message board a TTUN fan trying to downplay Coach Day stealing Mattison. His statement was that he was just an old grandpa and wouldn't be missed. I think we all know better.
Threat Level: Turd Sandwich
"I find your lack of kalua disturbing" - Darth Lebowski
I can't thank Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer enough for what they've done to the UM psyche over the past two decades. They're a very damaged fanbase and program.
I am confident Ryan Day will continue the job.
While everyone is focused on their offense, their defense is not there to bail them out this year, they have absolutely no depth on defensive line and lack speed in secondary...even if their offense gets a pulse, their defense will not hold up that's why it is so ugly this year
I've always felt that Michigan needed to be good to help Ohio State, but honestly watching them suck is pretty satisfying.
"Because I couldn't go for three."
They are a basketball school - haven't you seen the Jumpman logo on their unis from that famous TTUN alum Michael Jordan? Oh wait...
I think the scale should be adjusted, maybe not the chair idea because that only refers to one coach.
Maybe a seven point scale with the middle being typical Michigan arrogance:
1) Insufferable. Condescension of MSU and OSU. Expected wins are proof of eternal dominance.
2) Puffy. Multiple September championships and Heismans. Confuse ESPN preseason hype with fact.
3) Optimistic. Coaching change. Lust in the eyes. Ceremonies honoring Fielding Yost.
4) Stable. Michigan fans are smug and bring up their all-time records.
5) Bothered. Still smug, but bothered by penalties, calls and "correctable mistakes".
6) Unstable. Excuses pile up. Tendency to reach for the quick rush of academic ratings or imagined moral superiority.
7) Psychotic. Propriety be damned. Online riots. Would hire Hitler if he could win the big ones.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
I have collegues who are scUM fans, and I’ll tell them I think Harbaugh is on the hot seat, and they say “yeah, but who will they get to replace him?” I tell them “ Get someone who can lose on a budget.”
Re: Tight end Ben Mason
You chose one of the only positions he hasn't been associated with.
Because I couldn't go for 3.
While I think the skunkweasels will probably improve by late November, I do not think they have the basics that would be necessary to pose that much of a threat to us.
The threat level is low, indeed -

If Rutgers "upsets" scum and I think they can - will scum drop to #25 ?
Xichigan will lose to Rutgers
Victory loves preparation
In my limited viewing of M's offense, I don't understand what they are doing. It's like Harbaugh compromised with Gattis and they melded some brand of Harbaugh's power game with "people in space" or whatever Gattis was calling it. But it's like merging Abe Lincoln with a Roomba -- it just doesn't work.
And what the **** happened to Patterson? Before the Game last year, one of the announcers compared him to Patrick Mahomes. Yes, a grand overstatement, but he seems to be getting worse.
They had two weeks to prepare defensively for Wisconsin, who has as much offensive diversity as a Tecmo Bowl team, yet were unable to stop the running back. I can't imagine what it must be like to be a fan of that mess up north...(insert maniacal laugh here)
True story: I served ribs to John Cooper.
Michigan beats Rutgers by 40+. There is no way any team can have their manhood questioned like this and not respond. Even Michigan.....
I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Harbaugh is doing a fine job. He has a well coached team that’s had some bad breaks this season. I would absolutely hate to see him involved in any sort of coaching hot seat discussion. You know, cuz he’s a great coach and a great guy and all. Seems like he’s about to turn the corner and start competing for championships real soon. He just needs more time, more of his own guys, etc. I think a contract extension is probably a smart move. Lock him down for another few years...8 more after this one sound right?
