I think we should be higher but that's ok. I don't mind being underrated.
We should be thankful we didn't drop again...
This probably shouldn't be in italics. We should thank our lucky stars that the entire SEC isn't #1-14.
I bleed scarlet...literally
considering the competition the top 6 teams have faced - i don't think these "rankings" mean anything at this point.
Yawn. The rankings are unchanged.
In fact, the Top 20 teams are all the same, and even in the same positions (except 11 and 12 switched places).
Clemson received the same 62 1st-place votes and Alabama the same 3 1st-place votes.
Nothing to see here.

This is starting to stink... real bad.
My two favorite teams: OSU and whoever plays TTUN
Why? These rankings have nothing to do with the committee’s rankings. It would not matter if this poll had us 100th.
I dont care what the polls say. This team is really damn good and I seriously think they might be the best the team in the country. Eventually people are going to start noticing.
Florida has no business being a top 10 team, none at all.
My gut reaction as well, and maybe Auburn, too.
But if they are out, who gets in? I do not see any team ranked outside the top 10 that screams to me this is one of the 10 best teams in the nation.
It is early and things will shake out. With that said, is there much doubt at this point that the 6 best teams are the top 6? I see no one outside the top 6 who is on that level.
Notre Dame will be put in their place this week. Georgia is very good.
Who gets in? UCF & Wisconsin to start with.
They looked awful, really Kentucky outplayed them and beat them up in the trenches. Look for them to lose to UT this weekend. If not UGA and LSU will put them in their place. What’s funny is both auburn and Florida are getting credit for playing Oregon and Miami. Yet all the experts talk about how crappy a conference the pac12 and acc are, so should those wins not mean as much, since those teams really aren't that good. Whoever makes these just defaults to when in doubt sec team gets ranked higher. Idc though I would rather be under ranked all season, if we handle business it won’t matter we will be in:
Right now the only one I have an issue with is Georgia. If the Buckeyes went to Indiana and played like Georgia did at Vanderbilt we would have dropped multiple spots. Georgia has done nothing this year to deserve where they are at. That may change next week but the polls are supposed to be based on what you have done, not your past years, not your conference affiliation, not your potential.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
This! It was Bama only. But now Georgia has some how gotten the benefit of the doubt and will be top 3 no matter what. Complete bullshit how they have shot in front of us and Oklahoma forever. Because a network tells us so. College football is on the brink of being completely ruined. Teams that lose to the sec powerhouses also dont drop, so it can help inflate their ratings. Nothing more I'd love then to beat the shit out of 2 sec teams in the playoff. It wont change the next seasons ranking but it will help with our image a bit. Somehow we have been kicked to the very back of the pecking order and teams like Florida , Auburn, and LSU are equal or better then us? The push will be for 3 sec teams soon.
What is a worse performance: a 24-point win on the road over a power 5 conference opponent (a bad one) or a 24 point win over an average non-power 5 school?
Not sure which you are specifically comparing. I am looking at Georgia beating Vandy on the road 30-6 and the Buckeyes beating Indiana on the road 51-10. Both Power 5 teams on the road.
Florida at 8 is fucking laughable.
Couldn't agree more. The only reason they are at this spot is to set them up as a "quality win" once they get their asses kicked by a conference foe. I watched that game against Kentucky, and the only reason Florida won is Kentucky shot itself in the foot. That was a gift win.
"Year for what?"
Not worried about the polls. One game at a time. Have to win the conference to have a shot at the playoff. Oklahoma’s schedule is a joke but hoping Texas or someone else gives them a loss.
I am fine with this. There is a nice separation between us and #7 ND.
A lot of football to be played.
I guess what you could take away from this is that the only way in this year may be to be undefeated. 12-1 with a "quality loss" is not going to cut it.
Except if you are a SEC team. Their quality losses always mean more.
I think the committee punishes us indefinitely for scoring zero points against Clemson until we right that ship. New coach, new players - doesn’t seem to matter because B1G is just not respected. We will have to win them all and win big and then we better put up more than zero points.
Only 5 SEC teams in the top 10? I thought there would be more.
The rest will be in soon enough due to quality losses to other SEC opponents. Worry not!
Relax folks, its a long season. We just need to win out (probably) and watch some SEC teams destroy each other. They can't all be winners. It would help if TTUN, Penn State, and Wisc. keep winning till they face us. I suspect we will have Clemson, an SEC school, OU and the Buckeyes playing in the CFP.
I’d like to hear the 3 SEC coaches that put Alabama #1 justify it.
This is why the Coaches Poll is garbage. There are six SEC coaches and six B1G coaches among the field. Every coach can have an agenda when it comes to the polls. And, most will tell you that some staffer files their ballot every week. The HC doesn't have time to watch all the highlights each weekend or even read through the box scores, let alone watch enough of the games to make a reasonable guess as to who should be ranked where. It is by far the weakest of all the BS human polls.

One thing the article does not point out is that the Bucks actually Lost Ground compared to LSU who beat a non-power 5 team. Last week there was a 5 point difference between LSU and OSU, but this week there was a 20 point difference. Absolutely Absurd...
Yeah, that's some funny stuff, for sure.
If OSU had beaten Texas on the road, and LSU had blown out Arkansas, they would be reversed. You can't equate IU and UT.
I don't know what you are talking about. LSU beat Texas Last Week, so that win was taken into account in Last Week's Coaches Poll. At that point, LSU was 5 points ahead of OSU. This Week, we beat an undefeated power 5 team and LSU beat Northwestern State and Gained 15 points on us.
You're comparing the schedule as if the previous week's opponents haven't done anything.
OSU has wins over IU, UC and FAU. LSU has wins over UT, GA Southern and NWSU (FCS).
if you compare those top to bottom, LSU has a more impressive P5 win, LSU and OSU's G5 wins are basically a push (UC and GA Southern), and OSU has the better weak ass team win.
But if you dig deeper on UC and GA Southern, the Bearcats were sleep walking against Miami (OH) this week while GA Southern nearly upset an undefeated Big Ten Minnesota.
It's a minimal difference, and it's week 3. Much ado about nothing. 15 points out of 1300 is about 1%. It's almost a rounding error.
It Is Not Rounding Error if you consider that there are 65 "Coaches" voting in this poll. For OSU to lose 15 points, 8 Coaches would need to move LSU up 1 position and 7 Coaches would need to move OSU down one position in the poll order. This would have happened After watching OSU pound Indiana and After watching LSU beat Northwestern State. According to you, it took the "Coaches" one week to digest the LSU win over Texas, which is illogical.
Oh the humanity.
Or, people actually moved LSU ahead of UGA and OU this week. So they got a +2 or a +3 bump from some voters.
And, please, let’s not delude ourselves that coaches are actually voting. If you truly believe head coaches of D1 teams are casting these ballots, we can’t have a constructive conversation about this poll.
We agree on that, which is why I put "Coaches" in quotations. What we get are mostly AD voters, many with agendas.
I doubt any D1 ADs have time for it either. From what I've read, it's some poor staffer on the coaching staff who gets stuck with it each week. Someone who's probably overworked and underpaid.
Such an odd year. It's normally top heavy and then a few schools that are pretty good and then a group of schools that are okay and so on... But it's not top heavy this year. Clemson has looked the shakiest of the top 6 teams. Bama has looked ok. You also don't have much outside the top 7. Big Ten and Pac 12 as a whole don't look very good and the poll is filled with those conferences 10-25..
Any other year I would laugh at Florida at 8 but look who's behind them? on a neutral field I'd take Florida over just about every team 10-25 minus Wisky.... there is just a lot of not great teams 10-25..
We are in Clemson mode. Not looking like we will get any help from the conference so ZERO margin for error..
Excellent analysis. A couple of things, IMO, are setting this year up to be a strange one. There were some significant coaching changes that shook up a lot of teams. Added to that, there are something like 25-30 transfer QBs starting for new teams this year. Throw in a few key injuries (USC QB, UF QB, etc.), and things are about to get downright weird.
Bottom line, it's only week three, and no one has played enough games against real competition for anyone to make a real judgement. FEI had the Buckeyes #4 last week. I expect them to be 3 or 4 this week. S&P+ should also have them moving up after blanking IU. Clemson didn't look great for three quarters against a Cuse team that was shellacked by MD; they'll slip in the analytics. Bama may see a slide when they hit a real offense. SCar was able to break some big plays with Bama's young LBs.
I like where the Buckeyes are right now. Stay hungry, young wolves, and stick together. When winter comes, and the cold winds blow, the pack survives and the lone wolf dies.
I’m convinced that these coaches actually don’t even watch college football. If they think that Clemson and Alabama look like the #1 teams in the nation they’re smoking crack Clemson should have left NY holding that “L” after backing their way into a victory because the team MD hung 63 points on two weeks ago kept shooting themselves in the foot. And GA and LSU played their usual SEC cupcakes. It’s all fun and games now, but in a few more weeks it’s not gonna be funny. Clemson literally played their toughest opponent yesterday. Let that sink in. Oh well. One thing this rigged system has made me do, oddly, is just appreciate the games each week. If we get invited to the SEC/ACC invitational at the end of the year, great.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
Pumping up the tier 2 and 3 sec schools for a strength of schedule boost. Florida has no business in the top 15.
Top 6 only teams worth a shit.
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
These coaches appear to be really lazy. Watch the games before you vote. Kinda seems like your job.
Joe Klatt said we were at 4 at the end of the game broadcast. At least one guy is taking things seriously.
Fields of Dreams
Division 1 coaches get paid to win football games, not vote in some garbage poll that has zero bearing on the playoffs and anyone's bottom line. Very few HCs have the time to watch film on any teams other than the next one on their schedule.
Unfortunately I have the feeling that we’ll need to be undefeated to jump a one or two loss SEC non-champ; Alabama/Georgia/LSU. Oklahoma will also be tough to jump if we’re both at one loss of equal circumstances. Our only shot at the playoff is to win and win convincingly every game. I’m not trying to be dramatic, it’s just the way things look to be trending the past few seasons. The B1G and PAC-12 will be on the outside looking in more often than not.
The coaches poll may be the most arbitrary poll. The AP poll at least creates a baseline for CFP rankings, but the coaches poll is referenced by literally no one. It’s hilarious to think the coaches have time to even think about who should be ranked where.
I pulled the coaches poll up on my phone and swear my whole hand started to smell like hot garbage.
Let’s take it out on Miami.
The top 15 will shake up next week. Auburn @ TAMU, ND/UGa, TTUN @ Wisconsin, etc. read: I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 in the top 10 lose next Saturday.
I also don't have the problems with Auburn top 10 as others seem to... at least they beat the Ducks/a game worth playing (which I think is more than Oklahoma can say right now). If they make a deep run they're going to have earned it, with LSU, UGa, Bama, TAMU, Oregon and Florida on their schedule.
I think us at #6 is absurd. Clemson looks flaccid every week and is hoarding #1 votes? smdh
The top 6 are the best teams so far but they are not in the right order. The Buckeyes 1st team D is dominating everyone like I haven't seen in years. When the offense is rolling on all cylinders, it's very difficult for any defense to stop. This Ohio State team could hang with and probably beat anyone above them. Things will shake out more by week 7 so I'm not concerned with being overlooked at #6. My biggest concern with this team is the dropoff at QB if we ever have to play and win a game without Fields. That's where our Defense could be the difference.
For the haters of the computer polls Sagarin has us at 3.
You do know Jeff Sagarin is an OSU grad don’t you?
DON'T STEP IN THE POLLSHIT.
Hindsight is, and in, 2020
I wish voting could move comments up the comment ladder. I would put this as my number 1.

Mod Bias would be worse than ESPN's SEC bias.
Hey, that is being ethnically mean! Just like the rest of us the Polish have to take dumps too. Oh, wait...my bad.
As someone who has a Polish uncle, I can say it's all in the delivery.
Lol LSU was struggling with northwestern state... they actually gain points... makes sense.
For those who want to know the consensus of the computer polls:
This is interesting. There is a large gap between 3 and 4 (Ohio State and LSU) and Ohio State has the smallest standard deviation of rank, suggesting some confidence in the rank. Georgia's love confuses many and the high standard deviation of their rank indicates a real lack of consensus.
Home team bias here but #3 feels right.
Prediction: If Georgia loses a close one to Notre Dame, we drop to seven.
It doesn’t matter. We are running the table.
PSU moves up from 13 to 12 after they trailed to a bad Pitt team at the half. Comical.
We are running the table. So when we are u defeated at season’s end, I will then care about this.
Respect the rivalry game.
Fighting the good fight in SEC country. "Our honor defend"
I have no idea what you are referring to.
I’m not surprised. Let me be an educator here. Penn St is a rival. They’ve played us tougher than ANY conference opponent in the last 5 years. You just hate to admit it.
Please apologize to all the Pitt fans you pissed off.
Pretty ridiculous. But it will get worse. If ND wins this week, they will jump us and we won't jump Georgia; unless ND wins by 50. Coaches Poll and even AP is mostly meaningless compared to the 1st and proceeding Playoff polls, but it's the principle; and eternally frustrating when people refuse to admit that there is a clear bias in the media towards the south. I respect Georgia far more than ND and especially TTUN, but Georgia is the Dallas Cowboys of the NCAA. Despite their crap schedule, Clemson should be #1 until they're knocked off. I'd take us over everyone else currently ahead of us any day; especially at a neutral site above the mason dixon

Damn people. Take a FKng chill pill!!!!
Let the nation keep sleeping on us! it will all pan out in November! Go Bucks!
If you had time to do something twice, then you had time to do it right the first time! Be the best you!
At No 6, nobody is sleeping on us
As long as the Buckeyes take care of business, the polls will take care of themselves. I don't put any emphasis on polls until late in the season when it counts. Just win out Bucks!
I wasn't worried about dropping to 6th last week, because the Bucks's season was back loaded with ranked teams...more than anyone else, in fact. Now that MSU and Maryland got bounced, we're down to 3 ranked teams remaining on the schedule.
We're going to have to fall upwards again, sadly.
