He has a little less dance to him, and definitely seems like a capable #2
Yesterday I thought Dobbins looked like his Freshman year, on that 50 yard run, he showed break away speed. Master Teague is a true power back who will just run you over once he picks up a head of steam.
Teague seems to look for contact. He sticks his nose in there and breaks tackles, moves piles. He also seems to have some patience and vision that are refreshing. Not sure why he hasn’t locked up the backup role in Day’s eyes - maybe just motivational tactics?
Dobbins is a very good back, and seems to want to hit home runs with every carry. I think that impacts his reads and cuts. He did seem to get a little extra juice free the first big running play. He seemed to hit quicker and drive harder. But those two big runs had holes wide enough to drive a truck through. Great job by the OL.
IIRC this was the first game I've ever seen Dobbins run out of pro style looks with the QB lined up under center. And he had his biggest run of the day out of that formation. Needless to say I like how Day is mixing things up on offense. They should try and bring back the QB Sneak though (that failed 4th Down conversion shouldn't have been Fields running from the shotgun, the Bearcats were expecting it).
He's a completely different back than JK. He runs with anger, whereas JK is a combo of power and finesse. Dobbins is a much more complete back now, but what I've seen from Teague thus far makes me feel MUCH better about missing out on those two tailback recruits.
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster...
Yep. Not to mention Marcus Crowley looked impressive during the brief moments we saw him against FAU. He's got a bright future here as well.
Master Teague is a dude. He runs with purpose and has a bright future.
A dude he is, but he can't slack off because Crowley and Chambers are dudes as well!
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
I know it was only 2 carries but I like what Chambers showed. He ran mad. I think with the way the LBs have looked and the uncertainty of the RB recruiting right now it is the right move to keep him at RB instead of moving him to LB.

Teague runs very hard... like he has something to prove, which he does. Dobbins is RB1, and as long as he stops putting the ball on the ground he'll stay RB1. Teague looks promising, and the running back depth isn't quite the concern many thought it was... but he's not supplanting Dobbins just yet.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
He looks like Eddie George to me... Just a bit.
Really...George was 4" taller, weighed 20lbs more and ran standing straight up-down. I don't see that tat all in Teague. (Which is not to say Teague isn't great. I just don't see the resemblance.)
Agreed, but Teague doesn’t always run behind his pads. He ran up the guy on at least one play yesterday and took a shot to the midsection that stopped him cold.
I guess I must be wrong.
Definitely think Teague should be in on 3rd and 1 or 2 yard situations. Doesnt make sense to me why they keep in Dobbins for short yardage.
Teague probably could have gotten us that first whenever it was 2nd and 1 and we eventually went out on downs cause they struggled to pick up that yard.
YES to this
Agreed, he's a punishing back, he's the guy that's gonna get that 1 yard when everyone in the stadium knows you're going to punch it up the middle.
I’ve been critical of Dobbins because I like bigger backs, but Dobbins ran hard and pushed/fell forward yesterday. Hope he keeps it up. Definitely want to see more Teague, and Chambers looked promising, though it was a small sample with 2 carries.
Chambers absolutely trucked a dude
I think Dobbins has more wiggle, Teague more power.. haven’t seen Teague bust one long enough to say who’s faster but I think both are sub 4.5 guys. I’ve liked what I’ve seen out of Crowley and Chambers too, pleased with RB depth,
Dobbins on his long TD run definitely looked like he is capable of 4.5X but I don't think he is sub 4.5. Weber ran a 4.48 and I've always thought of him as the faster back.
Dobbins ran a 4.45 at the opening which is electronically timed, almost every player that has been here under coach Micks strength program has run faster at the NFL combine than they did at the opening.
I guess we will see him run the 40 but Weber has always looked like the faster back to me.
To me Weber is was better at maintaining his top speed than Dobbins, but Dobbins gets to top speed just as quickly if not moreso. Weber had better long speed is what I am saying.. both have good initial acceleration
I guess we will see him run the 40 during the combine but Weber has always looked like the faster back to me.
We get it already lmao
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
I’m not sure he is more explosive but he certainly hits a hole and is powerful enough to take a defender with him. Dobbins showed some tough runs today and I think that his runs will boost his confidence moving forward. I think they compliment each other very well and we will need both during the long Big10 season.
Just posting and hoping my comment isn’t deleted.

Let's Go Bucks
Teague is lil Mo C, looking for the contact and punishing fools that get in his path.

No. Teague is Carlos Hyde 2.0
Teague is faster than Guapo maybe less wiggle though, Carlos could change direction well.
Dobbins did not do a lot of shifting yesterday. Looked to me like he got coached during the week.
All I know is they're both more explosive than Tuf Borland
Reminded me of Jerome Bettis running in the flag football commercial...

Agree, 100%. I've mentioned this another boards without much feedback or comment but I really agree that he just seems more relaxed and thinking less and reacting more
Teague is a hell of a blocker.
a hard rock miner from Butte, Montana
He almost got Fields kill on one completion to Victor in the third quarter.
It was nice to see Dobbins finish the 60 yarder looking fast. Teague sort of reminds me of Kevin Mack of the old Browns, even El Guapo. He has good feet, but power in his upper body.
The soldier is my son. The school I gone to didn’t teach much grammar.
Teague and McCall are stud #2's that are brought in for different reasons. Crowley will be a star as well. We're in good shape.
I havent heard anyone say this but u thought Teague looked solid, however its hard to compare the 2 RB's based on such a small sample.... Master came in fresh and pounded on an already gassed Defense
Lol this is a stupid thread. No, he doesn't--and it's notice even close.
Teague is a pinball. Just bouncing off dudes left and right.
Based on what we’ve seen so far Steele Chambers is the clear #2 , also I think we need to try Chase Young out at receiver
“It does not matter the size of the man, rather the amount of effort the man is willing to put forth” - Woody
Day needs to run Chase Young out of the "I" when they're inside the 5 yard line...
Great prognostication...only miss was Dawand at h-back...heavy-back that is.
teague plays a lot bigger than he really is. hits the holes and falls forward. no hesitation when he gets the ball.
I thought they both looked good.
Reminds me of a slightly slower Nick Chubb. The top end speed may not be elite, but he runs with violence. You have to give Teague 10-12 carries a game. It will not only keep Dobbins fresh, but will wear on the defense when the 4th quarter rolls around. Also, who wants to tackle Teague in November when everyone is numb?
I was actually surprised that Dobbins played every series in the 1st half. Would have like to have seen at least one where they put the backup (McCall or Teague) in to get some carries. Not sure JK will be able to last the whole season playing every series like that, so these early games are good time to get him some rest and keep the carries down.
Teague will be a beast, he most certainly will be our starter next year after Dobbins heads to the draft. What makes having MT3 so sweet is how we plucked him straight out of Tennessee, it's like beating a dead horse.
I appreciate that Teague runs hard and would love to see his yards after contact. He seems to show patience in the hole and his leg drive never ends. Last year he had that long TD run after he broke through the pile and he about did it again yesterday.
You got peanutbutter in my chocolate. You got chocolate in my peanutbutter.
Love 'em both.
"Give your dream an aspiration date."
Teague likely will never be an elite back like Dobbins because he lacks shiftiness. In order to excel as a running back, you have to have more than power. You have to have good vision, shiftiness, and balance. Even the big great ones like Beanie Wells and MoC were nimble on their feet. I've yet to see that from Teague. As of now, he appears to be downhill-running, big-bodied bruiser. He'll have success, no doubt, but not as much as Ohio State's greats, which include Dobbins.
They both can play on my team
Different styles of running, but in rewatching the game, I thought JK did a better job of letting his blocks develop, and MT3 seems to allow blocks to setup more naturally because of his speed and running style is a smoother than JK - who is more burst and cut
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
From the start of the season until the carry before JK's 24 yard run, yes. It seemed like after that run he got a little bit more fire under his ass though.

I like Master Teague for some reason. Maybe it’s his name. Maybe it’s because he was unheralded coming in. Maybe it’s because in interviews he seems like a respectful and humble young man. When he runs his upper body looks a little stiff, but maybe that’s because he has those weird shoulder pads or neck role or ginormous traps. IDK. But I’m always finding myself pulling for him.
He is a one cut and go hard back. A power runner who has speed, too. Should be an awesome short yardage back this year for us and a good compliment to JK.
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
More explosive? No. More powerful? Absolutely. Would love to see more of MT3 at the goal line and short yardage situations.
