F Clemson and f the SEC
Just win baby
My hierarchy is always:
1) Do we play the team and thus give us the ability to control our destiny against them.
2) How likely are they to lose another game.
Personally, I think it's MUCH better for OSU's odds if Clemson beats A&M. Clemson I just consider a locked spot in the CFP, even if they lose to A&M they aren't likely to lose another game.
On the other hand, an A&M win is really not good. That would pump up the SEC, but also create a problem with A&M specifically, they face 5 top 10 teams this year, if they beat Clemson and somehow go 3-1 against Bama / UGA / LSU / Auburn, they can be sitting at home during the SEC title game with a spot on virtual lock down.
As always, the moral of the story is an undefeated OSU is getting in, but last week was bad for the SEC, they don't need to get pumped back up with A&M beating Clemson, Bama crushing all foes is much better for them in terms of not opening up a 2nd spot for an SEC team, vs somehow they only lose ~2 games in round robin between each other, have the final poll full of top 10 SEC schools and prop up their 2nd entrant.
As it stands, something drastic would have to happen for Clemson and the SEC champ to not be in the final field, the rest of the country is playing for 2 spots.
I'm with you re: Clemson. Hard to imagine them losing a second game should they lose this week. Just for fun, let's say they fo lose to A&M and then run the table, as expected. An early September loss to an SEC West school will most certainly be forgiven. They're a lock to make the CFP barring several significant injuries.
Def agree. Clemson has a loss to give and maybe two if they win the acc. A lot more forgiveness for them as 2017 proved. I dont see a second loss happening for them anyways. If tx a+m won and God forbid LSU, the sec would for sure be getting two teams in.
I'd like to see an Ohio State vs LSU match, not just for Burrow - but in general. I think they were a good football team last year. Without Williams though, will they continue their dominance on defense? I don't know, I don't think this is the year for Alabama. I think it ends up Clemson, Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma. I think Clemson is a very good team (last year), will they jell or are they this years Ohio State 2015 team in redux? I dislike Swinney very much.
Number one, win the rivalry game. And number two, win every game after that.
they face 5 top 10 teams this year
No they don’t. They might be there now, but I guarantee they won’t all be there in the end (especially if AFM goes 3-1 against them).
Last week was bad for the SEC, yet the narrative this week has been “will the SEC get three teams in the playoff?”
STOP telling me to root for *ichigan. Seriously. They were playoff contenders until we beat the snot out of them and what good did that do us? Hell they even put Georgia ahead of us at #5 just for added proof that it doesn't matter if TTUN is 10-1 or 0-11.
So.... If it makes no difference, I'll keep rooting for the skunkweasels to lose every damn game they ever play for as long as that sorry-ass program exists. I'm getting really tired of the "we want them to be as good as possible" nonsense, because it makes no difference. That, and I want every single fan of that team to question why they even exist.
"No we don't give a da*n 'Bout the whole state of *ichigan"
I would upvote this comment if the OP wasn't scared of downvotes.
- OSU ISE -+- Premium Banter -+- OH48 80k -
The only that would come close to being as satisfying as Ohio State winning every game until the end of time is TTUN losing every game until the end of time.
I would enjoy that much more. I really do dislike Harbaugh - he is just such a d*&k in so many different ways.
Definitely, love to see Harbaugh flat on his face...even if they are dumb enough to pay him 8 million..I want after this season that they finally admit the weirdo is not the answer...though I want to wish year after year of the same underachieving.
As someone who lives with and interacts with TTUN fans daily, there is something particulalry special about them being on the verge of a b10 title game and playoff spot only to be knocked down by the good guys on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That being said, I never root for them whatsoever.
That'll be 5 dollars
I know its hard but I think if scUM had beaten ND last year we would have been in (over a two loss Georgia even though they were 5th in the CFP poll).
Georgia shouldn't have been in there last year, I did watch the game before the Rose Bowl with Washington last year, and they did have a very good defense. Ohio State had a much better team than they or honestly Oklahoma. Clemson and Ohio State went undefeated out of the top 10 last year - every other team lost.
In the final bowl games.
I'm sorry, I'll root for the Pac 12 and Big 12 over the SEC any day. I can't stand the SEC and living in Pac 12 country, I kinda have a soft spot for most of the teams, more specifically most California teams.
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Screw the Big 12. Texas and Vince Young tearing through us in 2005. Baker "planting the flag". Oklahoma getting in last year. Conference is a joke and I'll never root to give them validation.
Yeah, I dislike the Big 12 as much as anyone on here, but in Big 12 vs SEC games, I want the "SEC is the best conference" narrative to stop, and that means more SEC teams losing
Oklahoma has been the CFB equivalent of the 1990s Buffalo Bills since the BCS era. It always baffles me how OSU would (and still) get criticized for their bowl and NC game record while Oklahoma keeps racking up runner up and playoff participant trophies. I guess when Adrian Peterson and Lincoln Riley are tied to your program losing big games is acceptable.
Well I always look at the realistic contenders and let that form my rooting interest. The good thing about the SEC west is they will cannibalize each other and usually only one can survive with 1 or 0 losses.
The biggest threats to our playoff hopes if all records are equal are
ND, Big 12 Champ, Pac 12 Champ, 2nd SEC team.
So root for ND to lose at least twice, Oklahoma and Texas to lose twice, Utah, Oregon, Washington to lose twice. Not all of those have to happen but one conference champ with 2 losses will not get in over a 1 loss big ten champ unless maybe its the SEC. You pretty much have to lock one spot in for them, which is BS but that's the way it is.
let me add UGA and Florida to that list, we cant have an undefeated bama losing to a 1 loss east team in the CCG.
If ND loses once they're fucked. No way are they getting in with a loss after what they did last year. The shitty part is that this basically happened to the Buckeyes. They put us in 2016, Clemson beat the snot out of us, and now we can't lose again.
You may be right about ND but 1 loss for them leaves the discussion open. The last thing I would want to do is get in a strength of schedule battle with them. 2 losses for sure eliminates them. Im pretty positive we would be in vs a 1 loss pac 12 team but im not as confident about getting in over a 1 loss big 12 team. So I just root for all other conference champions to have 2 losses and if we have 1 or 0 losses then we should be in good shape.
Really also Clemson is a lock at 0 or 1 loss but any other team that wins the acc with 1 loss probably would be on the outside in favor of big 10 big 12 and pac 12
The rest of the Big 10 win
Sure. After all, it's not like they are our rival.
My formula OSU win
The rest will work itself out
Noon games suck
you're basic defense
A gentle reminder to BE NICE. Plays guitar and makes iced tea in the winter.
A&M did give Clemson a great game last season, though it was at Kyle.
While I don't take the premise of this post all that seriously, I'm also not a big fan of attempts to enforce a party line about topics that don't have much to do with Ohio State sports. The idea that a "true Buckeye" can only have one opinion about something like LSU-Texas is silly.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
The OH-IO against the world.
a true Buckeye would be rooting for Meatchicken
Stopped reading at that point

Maybe he meant “meat and chicken”?
Sounds good to me on any given Saturday.

Simply put, if we win them all we are in. I’m not rooting for an SEC team because maybe, possibly, in some scenario it might possibly kind of benefit us in the playoff selections. Fuck the SEC, fuck the ACC, fuck the PAC, fuck the BIG12, honestly, for the most part the B1G can choke on a fat one too, ESPECIALLY TTUN. Let’s go Buckeyes.
F all other teams. Only Ohio State matters.
Yeah can they all lose?
( For example, a true buckeye would be rooting for Meatchicken ) I stopped right there, please refer to the song
( We don’t give a damn for the Whole State of Michigan), in my opinion that’s how a true buckeye would feel.
I am of the utterly absurd notion that my decision of who I root from my living room has ZERO effect on the outcome of the game ...so I will continue to root for whoever I want.
In 2015 it would have benefited OSU had Michigan not muffed the punt vs. MSU and ultimately lost that game to the Spartans in painful fashion. At the time I celebrated like a kid at Christmas! If I were to go back in time and cheer as loudly as I could have for Michigan to get off a successful punt and defeat MSU, it wouldn't have changed a thing.
You can’t prove that
Wasn't suggesting your living room behavior impacts the outcome of a game in this thread (That's a whole 'nother thread)
Given: Clemson, SEC winner, All SEC w/ 1 loss, All w/ 0 loss
Likely: Alabama w/ 2 loss, UGA w/ 2 loss, Oklahoma w/ 1 loss, OSU w/ 1 loss
Unlikely: Notre Dame, Michigan
Impossible: Literally everyone else
The more losses the SEC can pile up, the better - just to prevent an all-hillbilly playoff. There's not a team in the PAC12 or ACC besides Clemson with even a remote shot at the playoffs.
Agree 100% with your Impossible: list. There are probably only 8-10 teams, in the current CFP format, that can win the NC before the first kickoff of the season
How about we worry about ourselves and let the rest work itself out.
Beat Cincinnati !!
Hook Em and C L E M S O N
F the SEC!
I always love people clicking on these types of discussions to say “ONLY ROOT FOR OSU” some of us watch other games and they are much more enjoyable if you can convince yourself a game like Maryland Syracuse has an impact on the playoff race
Im rooting for the black knights!!
The Scarlet Knights too. Go Rutgers. I don't know, I just like that team. The Birthplace of college football and all that historical stuff. Love to see them win a bowl game this year.
I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes
Im gonna disagree, you want lsu losing to texas, because texas isnt beating oklahoma. At least not twice.
Of course root for texas a&m over clemson. You root for everyone over clemson.
Root against every sec team every week unless one of them can knock off clemson see texas a&m and south carolina.
Root for every team who plays ttun, despite what some think we dont need ttun to be any good, always root for them to never win another game again. Unless they are playing Notre Dame, in which case root for the meteor
The rest of the big ten can go to hell we don't need them to be any good either.
The pac 12 is already done and over with. Notre dame loses one game they are out. Root for a non power 5 team to go undefeated in order to keep 1 loss notre dame out
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
Im gonna disagree, you want lsu losing to texas, because texas isnt beating oklahoma. At least not twice.
Problem is Texas only has to beat Oklahoma once, 1 out of 2 tries. And they would avenge their only loss. Just like Oklahoma did last year. I hate the SEC, but Clemson and Texas have really easy slates compared to these other 2 teams. A&M and LSU will each have 2 losses, regardless of whether they win tonight or not.
I have always, and will always forever wish and root for Michigan to lose their games, I do not care how much it weakens the BIG 10, or hurts our own chances at a playoff, it does not matter. A true warrior's only mission is to see the defeat of his enemy, even it comes at the cost of his own life...
Fuck those fuckers
No true Buckeye was rooting for scUM over Army today. Woody says shame on you analytics boi.........
No true Buckeye American was rooting for scUM over Army today. Woody says shame on you analytics boi.........
Lsu better steam roll Texas, tired of seeing Matthew McConaughey up on espn.yee haw y'all.
Only time i ever want ttun to win is against nd. Always need to make sure nd has 1 loss to eliminate them from the playoffs. Cant count on usc to do that anymore.
Can't stand how ND isn't in a P5 conference.
Penn state down at half time...a little chance from last week
I always root for who ever plays michigan...Army looked good and made michigan was really pathetic.
