Ohio against the World indeed.

This is the first I've heard of Carrico, man he is a specimen. It's a position of need, and he's a highly rated in state guy. Need to land him.

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.

Yeah he only has been discussed for past 6 months.

If Lorenzo Styles and Craig Powell had come back in 1995, no Buckeye fan would remember Tim Biakabutuka.

Special Thank You to The Vest and The GOAT for making 1995 not hurt so much today

Go Buckeyes

Beat Michigan

I saw Ryan Day hang 62 on Michigan...His hair was perfect.

This is absolutely true.

I remember vividly my dad, who was not a particularly emotive gentleman, yelling, "What the hell are the linebackers DOING?!?!?!" about 10 times that day.

Your dad was not alone that day.

Oh man.  I’ve watched some replays. Greg Bellisari and Ryan Miller were great Buckeyes and are seemingly great people. But they were just flat out awful that day.

HS

Yeah...almost make a man wish for Borland and Werner...

(did I say that out loud?)

If Brian Hartline is the lead recruiter of a prospect, then I like our chances.

HS
stxbuck's picture

If Styles chooses ND and Egbuka stays home, how long will it take the board to turn on Hartline?

HS

Wow, some people don't like getting confronted w/ the truth of their own psyches...........

HS

I think most people feel he has some recruiting credit built up at this point.  It's a little unrealistic to expect him to land every target, especially considering who these guys will have to compete with for playing time already.

HS
BbBnD's picture

Probably because it’s a provocative statement with no basis. I think they call that trolling.

HS
stxbuck's picture

No basis, lol? Do you actually read the thread comments regularly? Look at comments by morons regarding Alford and Studrawa-it will eventually happen when Hartline doesn’t give the spoiled brats all the toys they demand-through zero fault oh his own.

HS
Buckfrombirth's picture

Yep - the context of your comment wasn't that YOU would, it was that others would. Happens a lot on here, unfortunately. I got ya, StX.

We need to show both of them how badly we want them to be Buckeyes.. I am very glad that Day is focusing so heavily upon Ohio players.

HS
Extramedium's picture

As long as they are good enough.  I'm all for keeping the top talent incstate, but I don't necessarily want him to steal three-stars from MSU

HS

Few things hurt more from a recruiting standpoint than losing an elite Ohio player to Clemson. Really hope we land Carrico and Styles but if I could only take one I’d take Carrico. We got plenty of elite receivers

I was today years old when I first heard of Ironton, OH.

HS

Ironton is a Southern Ohio powerhouse. Beating them was a huge deal for my team in '91. I don't recall how the rematch went in the playoffs that year though.

Ironton's coach for many years was Bob Lutz. You might want to Google Bob to see about his coaching career. One player that we got from Ironton was Jermon Jackson. He played RB at the same that Lorenzo Styles played LB. We need an Ironton Tiger and a Styles to play together in the future.

If Gary was worth $300k to Clemson, I wonder what they're offering Carrico.

HS
NuttyBuckeye's picture

I'd like to know how Clemson escaped that latest accusation.  That one and quite a few others toward the south and particularly SEC schools makes me wonder if the NCAA truly is an SEC-biased organization.

What's round on the ends and high in the middle? Tell me if you know!

HS
avail31678's picture

It baffles me.  If I recall correctly, actual texts were discovered regarding Bama players directing them to go talk to so-and-so to get "help."  And Nothing.

HS

Because gold pants for tattoos is a much, much bigger deal. Doesn't anyone get that??? S/

HS

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I might be persuaded to accuse the NCAA of bias toward Alabama and Clemson in football and UNC in basketball, given how Ole Miss and Miss St. were treated for buying players about a decade ago. It's like those two are the sacrificial lambs to show that the NCAA will, in fact, come down on southern schools, meanwhile totally ignoring all the smoke billowing out of Tuscaloosa, Clemson, and Chapel Hill (I mean, UNC built a practically bogus curriculum, with grades changed by staff just to keep bball players eligible for crying out loud!!!). And don't get me started on SCam Newton's recruitment.

Considering Clemson has 7 ILB on the roster with 2 committed, we have 3 and 2 committed it would be hard to believe anyone would want to wade through double the competition for playing time. Ironton is a small town though and he may want that small town feeling which Clemson can provide way more than Columbus (Clemson isn't that terribly far from Ironton either). Hope he ends up here, I would hate to lose a talented Ohio linebacker to any school especially Clemson. There is that weird portion of Ohioans that hate Ohio State/state of Ohio for whatever reason, if he's one of those people just forget it he's gone. He also could just be trying to chase some Clemson girls on his visits before he commits to OSU, that's what I would do.

Go Bucks!

HS

It's crazy, 10 years ago I felt that the majority of our recruiting classes should be Ohio players. Then less than 5 years ago I was adamant that we needed to sign the top 10 players in the state every year, regardless of "national talent" ranking.

Now I am much more fixated on just getting the top 5 players and cherry-picking any other Ohioans.

I don't know if that speaks to a decline in overall elite talent in Ohio, or just a shift in a national recruiting philosophy from Urban.

HS
PhillyNut's picture

Hate to say it but I believe that getting into the CFP and making a good showing is going to be critical for the Buckeyes to get the guys who are not 100% sold on the Buckeyes and to slow Clemson's recruiting wins.  Right now, even though they did not get Fleming, it feels like Bama and Clemson can get who they want if they truly want the kid and the kid has not been dreaming of playing for another program his whole life.

And when you are fighting snow and sub freezing temperatures in January going to class in Columbus and you hear it is in the 40s or 50s (or warmer) in Clemson or Tuscaloosa that starts you thinking. Especially when you are going to also be dealing with that in February and most of March.

I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

We aren't losing Ohio kids over weather.

However, I agree that winning this season will cure a lot. Notre Dame and Clemson have a lot of continuity right now, but if we win big this year, hard to imagine losing too many Ohio kids.

The NCAA could really slow Clemson down. If nothing happens with the PED scandal at Clemson the NCAA will have proven that it is an organization that has outlived its time and usefulness.

Winning brings talent along with putting kids in the NFL and helps our program get kids and winning a NC brings even more. Like the song 2 out of 3 aint bad Clemson recently hit the trifecta our NC is a distant memory these kids today probably 9 or 10 years old in 2014.

I know Styles is a Ohio kid but all those other players mentioned are better at their craft. Not only that defense seems to be best suited for him they say. If he is stuck on wanting to play wr I wouldn't care if he went to another school probably would never start here any way at wr imo. His daddy played right down the road from me in Farrell Pa.

At least I'm honest like it or not and there is good and bad in everything and I probably take the low road more than the high road. Rankings are not 100% but the other kids have a higher ceiling. The linebacker is very good though if that helps.

HS

I have been mystified why Ohio State has not put any imperative on securing a big, bruising, everydown back, that can pound it between the tackles and get to the outside, like Eddie George.  This is still the Big Ten and and the backs with size and speed are an effective means to move the chains.  Our recruiting classes are flush with 5-11 195 scat backs.

I work with some big Ironton (Carrico ) people , Im pretty sure we dont have to worry about him ending up anywhere but Columbus .
