We have less than a week until buckeye football. Most wonderful time of the year, folks...
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
That chick throws better than JT Barrett.
Are those dv's because of the comparison to JT or because of the use of the word 'chick'?
You can’t say chick on here?
Kevin must have insomnia or he is all jacked up on Mountain Dew waiting for Saturday. 4:59 a.m.?
The only true worry we should have about this 2019 team is this:
Why is Sevyn Banks wearing number 12?
Replacing a hall of fame head coach and a starting quarterback quarterback in the same offseason and is still starting the season as a top-five team sounds seems like a pretty rare situation.
i don’t usually like to nitpick typos but... that was pretty rough.

Today would have been a half-cocked day playing the Skully Errors Drinking Game.
I maintain that errors are intentional to keep this drinking game challenging.

I just wanted to emphasize that he was definitely a quarterback. And also that the season is starting.
Yeah a re-read it a few times and am unsure what the gripe is.
I guess I speak (read) Skull Session after these many years.
I don't see what the gripe/problem is either. Maybe I'm denser than I thought I was, but I just don't see it. I seriously would like it explained to me. Kevin? (you obviously knew what others were referring to.)
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
“And is” and “sounds seems”
The second “quarterback”, the word “is”, and either “sounds” or “seems” should all not be there.
There are just a lot of bonus words in there if you read carefully. For example, "quarterback" is in there twice.
Kevin Harrish, it would be a special story on Borland's injury and what it took to make it back to the field enough to win his position. His determination and leadership is why he is a captain. I would like to know what an expert in the field knows about this injury and what is an expected recovery time to play at a high level. Beanie Wells (who had a similar injury)said he shouldn't have been able to push off that foot as well as he did. He gets trashed on here almost daily and maybe it's time to open some eyes on what it took to even play. I know things could have be better at that position but so could other defensive positions.
Do you know when Day is going to release the two deep for this weeks game?

So which history repeats itself for OSU?
New coach Solich leading Nebraska to a 9-4 record his 1st season?
Or coach Kiffin of FAU losing big 63-14 to the future Heisman QB?
And no, you don't get a free T-shirt if you guess the right score.

Ohio state has a bit of a history with 63-14 scores. I believe that was the score in the 2013 PSU game and the 1994 PSU game.

Cutie, but the pronunciation did surprise me. I guess it shouldn't looking at the spelling, but I just didn't expect Keyli to be "Keelee" for some reason. Kind of figured it would just be "Kelly". Why this matters I am not sure-too early to think straight I suppose. Agree with Kevin on the receiver having skills as well though.

A little early for this but...
What if OSU goes 10-3 with 3 close losses, beats michigan, wins the B1G east and defeats a good SEC team in a bowl game? Is this a disaster season? Not a prediction, just a what if.
Will fans storm the WHAC with pitchforks and other farm implements? Is this an acceptable scenario for first year coach Day? Remember, last year we could have easily lost two games (Maryland). Is all of this too much for early Monday morning?
I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes
I think it will be a question of how they got there. Did they blow leads because of poor coaching decisions? Did the linebackers struggle and instead of moving on to younger players did they stick with the guys from last year? Were the losses on the road or at home? Was the season to a degree like 2014 where the beginning was ugly but looking good at the end or did it start out promising but they struggled later in the schedule? I think if the losses are earlier in the season and the team shows progress, especially Fields, then it's a success.
Of course any season is a success as long as they beat ttun.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Upvote for that analysis Philly. Pretty good line of thinking this early in the morning. You must be on your second cup of coffee.
Let’s just beat FAU.
9-0 and a chance to go 10-0...
You need to let the LB thing go. The offensive line has much more questions and if Fields gets injured, it could get ugly.
People will let the LB thing go when the LBs (excluding Malik) prove they can play up to the standard expected of OSU LBs.
The O line has four guys that have started and played well. Regarding the fifth guy, Myers, I’m less concerned about someone that is highly regarded and unproven than someone that has already had substandard performances on the field
Some of those plays we seen Borland running after a RB or QB was him coming out his gap responsibilities in a different area because a dlineman lost his. I wish you could have seen Fragel's breakdown on our defensive problems last year on Letterman Row. He showed on the film that many things were not just LB but every area. He also showed that our LBs were taught to try to run around blocks instead of taking them on and peeling off (like they are doing now) which put them out of position. We had a few exbuckeyes stand up for Borland who had the same injuries (like Beanie Wells who said it takes a year at minimum to get to the field properly) and praise him be worked his way back enough to beat out others. Instead of praising him for his unwavering warrior commitment for the team, arm chair want-to-be coaches choose to trash him. Standards expected of OSU LBs is not yours or mine to make, it's REAL coaches who decide that.
One of those losses would have to be vs cinci, I dont see a scenario where we make the B1GCG with 3 losses in conference. Also, the final record would be 11-3. I could live with that assuming there wouldnt be any embarrassing losses.
I mean, losing to Cinci would be really embarrassing. I know our fans like their coach and they had a good year last year, but they’re still a G5 team. When’s the last time we lost to a team not in a power conference? I can’t even think of one.
I'm guessing the last time would be...1990 Liberty Bowl vs Air Force?
I just did some digging and I believe you're right. For the last regular season loss I think it's Pitt in 1988, as they were independent at the time, but someone can correct me if I missed one.
And, the last time we lost to an Ohio team was one year short of a century ago. Let's keep that streak alive.

Sunny - you can't go 10-3 & win the B1G East - playing in the B1G you'll have 14 games. And then are we winning or (more likely to get to 3 losses) losing the B1G title game? (also winning the East with at least 2 losses seems unlikely....) sorry
Lose to Cincy OOC, Northwestern and Nebraska. Beat everyone in the B1G East. Then you might need a little help with PSU, UM and MSU all beating each other.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "

I get that it could happen, but it's all so very unlikely. Starting with we aren't losing 3 regular season games.
And winning the NC with a 3rd string qb was what...
Destiny! Not this nightmare.
That is one of the scenarios I considered. Especially PSU, UM, MSU beating up each other.
You would need a lot of help. PSU, UM, and MSU would all have to lose at least 2 conference games also.
Which is exactly what I said: 1) lose to OSU and 2) lose to each other round robin.
That gives them two conference losses each, both in the East Division. OSU would have zero losses in the East Division, and two Big Ten losses out of Division.
OSU wins the division by virtue of the head to head under the Division tiebreaker rules. If UM, PSU, MSU and OSU are all 7-2 in conference:
The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:
If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
Navy, a loss is a loss in the Big Ten...the division opponent doesn't matter.
Your round robin theory:
All three teams lose to to OSU.
1. TTUN loses to MSU but beats PSU. TTUN eliminated by tiebreaker.
2.PSU loses to Michigan and MSU. PSU eliminated with 3 losses.
3. MSU beats TTUN and beats PSU. MSU has one loss to OSU and wins the East outright.
MSU would have to lose to another Big Ten team to get a second loss as they would be 8-1 in league play using only the round robin theory. It doesn't work as a pure round robin theory as you stated. The team that comes away with victories over the other two would have to lose to someone else outside of the round robin of TTUN, MSU, and PSU.
You where you went wrong is by eliminating PSU with the loss to MSU. If PSU wins that game, all four teams have two Big Ten losses.
OSU - losses to NU and UN-L
UM - losses to OSU and MSU
PSU - losses to OSU and UM
MSU - losses to OSU and PSU
Each team has two conference losses, and in all four cases, OSU won the head to head.
DOH! Forgot to factor in the 4th team...
I mean, sure that could happen...but let's be honest here: If they're losing to Cincinnati and Nebraska, it seems really unlikely that they'd suddenly catch fire to beat Sparty and TTUN and PSU and Wisconsin. By definition if you're 3-2 exiting September, that probably means that Ohio State has some notable flaws (defense not fixed, Fields unready, major injuries, whatever) that would keep them from turning around and going 6-1 in the heart of the schedule.
This is actually how it would have to happen. Lose a couple games early, and then suddenly gel, start getting better and get rolling by November. I don't see losing to Cinci and Nebraska, but it isn't entirely unrealistic.
I mean, they lost to Purdue last year by 30, nearly lost to Maryland (trailed for over 80% of regulation), and then destroyed Michigan and beat UW.
I doubt you win the Big10 east with 3 losses.
1) one non conference loss and two west losses
2) one non conference loss, one west and one east loss. There are multiple scenarios. Look how Northwestern won the west last year.
I DON'T want this to happen. Just wondering how much latitude we will give coach Day this year.
That would require Michigan to lose to someone (pen state?) and to us, and Penn state to lose to us but some how drop two other games (but still beat Michigan). I have a hard time coming up with a scenario where that happens.
A 10-2 champ is more realistic, especially if one of the two was Fickells revenge.
If we lose to any of the scrubs we play in non conference, Day would be on the hot seat. The toughest team we play is cinci, yes good team with a great coach but they have no business being within 3 td’s of a team that wants to be in the final 4. Not to mention we haven’t lost to another Ohio team in over 100 years or whatever.
You just repeated the Philistine king’s pre-battle pep talk before he sent Goliath out to face the Israelites.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
Under #2...the team that beat us in the East would have to lose 3 conference games for us to win the East.
Anything is possible but one of those losses would probably have to be to UC so there’d only be two conference losses. Then lose to Nebraska and Wisconsin but run the table in the East and count on every other team having two conference losses (including one to Ohio State to give us the tiebreaker).
Makes me shudder just thinking about it.
Lets all be honest, to consider Justin Fields just another 'first-time starting QB' is not accurate. He is off the charts talent wise and got some snaps in games.
Same with Ryan Day as a 'first time HC'. 3-0 and today is a young man's coaching game. Only 5 active HCs with an NC.
“First time starting QB” isn’t any kind of obstacle anyway. Look at title winning QBs recently: Lawrence, Tua (beating another in the NCG in Fromm), Watson (last second pass to beat freshman Jalen hurts), jake Coker, cardale (assisted by JT Barrett), Jameis Winston, aj mccarron (x2) and Cam Newton.
So in the past decade only Deshaun Watson and McCarron (the year they repeated) WERENT first time starters.
While I agree with your point, Cam wasn't exactly a first time starting QB. He did a year at Blinn where he took his team to the JUCO NC. Sure, the talent level may be different but he had a year of experience before leading Auburn to the NC. War Eagle.
To me, the key is to have a talented set of players around the QB (Thank you, Captain Obvious) so he doesn't have to carry the team.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.

Get up atop this here mountain, BGF...there's plenty o' room.
I believe Urban when he says he hates the transfer portal. I’m sure all the elite coaches wish we could go back to the rules of the 70s where you could just stockpile players for years.
But this is a case where im glad the pendulum swung back toward the players side. If coaches can flip between jobs whenever they want then letting the players move schools is more than fair.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I agree it gives players more options, especially if a coach leaves during their career. I wonder when we'll have the first case where a kid refuses to play to keep his eligibility knowing he plans to transfer, or a coach burn a redshirt just to spite a kid? I can see a kid who signs decide to transfer if the team get s a player at his position when he expected to be the guy.
Maybe change the rules so a kid gets immediate eligibility after two years or a head coaching change; otherwise sits a year? That would make the rules clear and avoid some of the randomness form the NCAA.
"I wonder when we'll have the first case where a kid refuses to play to keep his eligibility knowing he plans to transfer"
Kind of had that scenario this past season. Bryant of Clemson left the team to avoid playing another game that would have cost him a season of eligibility before transferring to Missouri.
Adam Weishaupt must have been an intriguing guy to start the Iluminati. Just yesterday I was watching The Da Vinci Code so the secret society idea was fresh in my mind.
The new food offerings do look pretty solid. I like the little twist of having items connected to the team that is visiting-not a new idea in that teams have been doing this for awhile, but it is a good one. Some Old Bay seasoning on onion rings cannot be a bad thing.
What do we need to start the next Illuminati?
Good Monday all.
Soon. most if not all of your questions will be answered.

God bless Dave and Dayton.
After watching the Canes/Gators game and seeing how Tate was used in the offense, Im convinced Tate was asked to leave tOSU.
I can’t believe I wanted that scrub to play more last year lol. Just shows how much Haskins’ inability to run pissed me & a lot of other fans off.
Tate clearly is getting bad advice, he would have gotten alot more playing time at QB at tOSU and wouldnt be on a team lucky to be .500
I wonder who Tate's Yoko Ono is?
I think we all know that. We've seen the pictures.
Seeing how horrible and error prone the QB that Miami named the starter performed in the game, it says a lot that Martell could not beat him out for the starting role. Then when he DOES get to play, he does his whole run toward the sidelines and gain one yard bit that we saw so often last year. We really dodged a bullet in not having him be the starter this year. I am convinced he would have been the worst (non tattoo gate related) starting QB since Bellasari.
