I was a big fan of Popeye's back in the day, but it's hard to find a decently run franchise now. Service is slow, poor and inconsistent (Chick-fil-a blows away all competitors in this area) and the chicken isn't nearly as juicy as I remember.
In the past year, I've been to the Popeyes in Marion, and to one off the Turnpike near Oberlin
....both visits left me dissatisfied. Service and food quality seemed below average. First World problems. Happy to have food in my face, but I'm not going back anytime soon, lol.
I'm with you Ginn. Popeye's service is not what it used to be. Their chicken, while still good, does seem drier than before. Been going there for years and love their biscuits. I live a mile from one and they seem to have a hard time getting the order correct. I'll have to try one of the new sandwiches this week.
Chick-fil-a is still my favorite all around. Their honey mustard sauce is good.

I agree with CFA's service. It's consistently great at every location.
Then again I don't go to fast food joints for high end service but it's definitely appreciated there.
“Black Twitter” had a field day with it this week and it was some of the greatest content I have seen in a long time.
Popeyes’ sandwich blows every single fast food sandwich out of the water. I had it twice in the past week and I need to be restrained from eating it again because I have a Popeyes two blocks away from where I live.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
Popeyes two blocks away from where I live
Lucky guy that Cooper is!
IT. WAS. A. FUMBLE.
Slow down Coop. Between the surgery and this sandwich you'll be 300lbs by the time you're back on the field.

I can't wait to try Popeyes chix sandwich because I think Chick-Fila is all hype. It is a good product but people think it is the best out there and I know too many mom-pop shops that do fried chicken better to let them think that. Popeyes as a chain always had my attention though
"I don't apologize for anything. When I make a mistake, I take the blame and go on from there." - Woody Hayes
I like spicy and crispy chicken, so my vote will always be for Popeye's over Chick-Fil-A.
Agree that CFA is overhyped. For the mild and bland taste, I also think it is over priced
Agreed. I feel robbed every time I take my kids there.
One cool tbing is I can make my order on their app in my car, find a seat near the playground area, and my food shows up magically at my table. This is huge because waiting in line to order with my two wildlings is horrible.
CFA's best is the Chicken Biscuit. Their burgers aren't bad either (and yes you can get burgers at select CFA locations; just don't tell the cows). Their sandwich is good and consistent.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
The biscuits are good, but I personally think the chick-mini's with a splash of hot sauce are one of the greatest creations ever!
They do serve burgers at a handful of Chick-fil-a's, but they aren't regular stores. I believe they are all in the Atlanta area. They call them Dwarf Houses. I've been to the original one in Hapeville, Ga along with the one's in Mcdonough and the on near my last house in Woodstock, GA. They have lots of stuff on the menu that's not in a normal Chick-fil-a restaurant. I've never tried anything that you won't find at a regular restaurant though.
Yes, they are named after the original one in Hapeville, which IIRC was called that due to its small size. I've been to the Woodstock one and it's a bit odd to see a sit down restaurant in a CFA.
It was weird seating. The front side is like a regular Chick-fil-a while while the back has a hostess to seat you. I was a bit confused the 1st time I went in there.
The empty parking lot at Popeyes vs. the lines wrapped around CFA tell a different story.
Best part of Chick Fil A is the CFA Sauce. Think I could straight up drink that stuff if given the opportunity.
"Medicine is not a science" - Leo Spaceman
Yeah, same! I feel like people who call Chick Fil'A bland and pedestrian sometimes don't understand that you have to add your sauce of choice to the food. They purposely don't put any type of condiments on sandwiches in order to maintain efficiency. Obviously if you're just eating the plain chicken it's not going to blow you away.
The right blend of honey mustard and mayonnaise is fantastic.
Kroger now sells a "Chicken Sandwich Sauce" under their own brand that is damn near the exact same thing as CFA sauce.
this might be the most over looked comment on this thread! Great find YTown!
I'm here to help. Go buy that damn sauce, now!
Creole honey mustard + crispier spicier sammich? Both are good, depends on ones preference. Although I have been using CFA's secret brine on my home grilled chicken for years, pickle juice.
I am on Keto. My wife went to CFA and picked up lunch for the house. And didn't get me anything. I mean, naked nuggets are not the best, but it's something.
So is a naked wife... but then again the longer a person is married that is nearly as rare as well... a TTUN win against The OSU.

Right? I think that's how it goes.

Other than that - we're all SOL.
As a Christian - there is no other than the place that is closed on Sundays. YUM YUM.
As a frequent traveler, there is nothing sadder than being excited to see a Chick-Fil-A in an airport and then remembering its a Sunday.
Oddly enough, they changed the name to Fry's UP and did't serve chicken on on Sundays, even Super Bowl Sunday at Mercedes Stadium but still were open.
All of you should just thank your lucky stars you have choices - living overseas = SLIM PICKINGS and certainly neither of the restaurants mentioned herein.
That's why man invented KFC... Which hasn't come up here yet.. maybe for good reasons
When we first arrived in Al-Jubayl (Saudi Arabia) in late 1990 we hit up this spot a couple of times before orders came down prohibiting us from making any stops in the city...
Hard to beat chic-fil-a......but I know there's a big to do on social media right about which one is better.
Enjoying daily the back to back ttun beatdowns.
I had Popeye's for the first time in my life a couple months on a whim and I couldn't believe how effin' good it was. I had these kind of big boneless chicken breast things and a couple biscuits. It was one of the greatest meals of my life.
Now I'm really looking forward to trying this new chicken sandwich but no way it can top what I had before.
Anthony Bourdain liked Popeyes. I don’t know if he liked any other fast food. That says a lot.
I tried to stop at Popeye's today and there were twenty cars in line. I counted. I'll have to go on a weekday before the lunch crowd starts in. But I cannot compare it to CFA since they are on my boycott list.
Chick Fill A has a post at Cedar Point, if my memory serves me right, they were asking $14 for a sandwich Value Meal back when the Maverick was a New Coaster in Sandusky....I haven't had the desire to try CFL since them, due to the pricing.
Well, if they charged regular prices they wouldn’t be able to handle the demand, and no one would eat any of the other overpriced park food. Plus, I’m sure the rent they have to pay to the park makes up the difference.
it’s my go-to place AFTER a ride on the Maverick. After.
Every restaurant is marked up at an amusement park.
Almost anywhere is better then Chick-Fil-A. Their original chicken sandwich is bland, dry and I have to slather a ton of mayo on it just to eat it. I've never understood what people love about it. Their waffle fries are good, but the chicken sandwich isn't good at all. Popeyes for the win.
Honestly I like both popeyes and CFA. The problem I have with popeyes is the service and cleanliness. I have not found one where you recieved at best decent service. CFA menu very limited and waffle fries are not very good. Sandwich is a matter of taste. Popeyes is crisper but CFA is heartier.
If the idiots at the drive through are any indication it must be good. That crap was backed up around the building and out into the street. All for a sammich lol
Credit to Popeyes marketing because it seems like they got folks coming in.
I tried Popeyes long ago. It was fine. There used to be a location by me on Bethel in Columbus, which closed and is now a Dunkin Donuts. The KFC down the road is somehow still open.
I like Chick Fil A. The food is fine. They have some grilled chicken options which I have been trying of late. I’ve been to three locations here in the Columbus area. Grandview, Dublin, and Hilliard. For lunch and dinner. The locations are clean and the service is good. There always seems to be a line and a good crowd at the locations. They are obviously doing something right.
I went and tried Popeyes chicken sandwich and I think it’s better than CFA.
Nice and juicy.
Ya'll need to try KFR:
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
I'm all about the Lord's chicken at CFA, can't beat it.. people were flooding to the Popeyes by me, lines around the building.. shortly thereafter it voluntarily closed due to cockroaches.. glad I didn't go try it
Alright I guess I'm driving to Popeyes for lunch today.
Reporting back... drove to two separate locations in Detroit Metro and both were sold out of the sandwich. It alludes me for today. Settled for the spicy crispy chicken sandwich at burger king. Terrible mistake, not sure how I forgot that Burger King is trash.
Tough to compare because they are so different. Both are good but Popeye's is much juicier. Pro tip: get a side of Sweet Heat sauce or Blackened Ranch and put that on the Popeye's one. Thank me later!
CFA is it for me . On a side note , Burger King should stay out of the taco business , those tacos shouldnt be allowed to be sold.
Popeyes without question.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
Popeye's chicken sandwich is much better
CFA is the best. Just ask your kids. Its clean, the have nutritional options and the service is great. Popeyes is good but doesn't have the other things I mentioned. On top of that it is very inconsistent across different locations.
Popeyes!!!! Love the nice chunk of chicken that they give you!
My mans dad tried the Popeyes chicken sandwich for the first time, this was his reaction @jvo_denn15jr pic.twitter.com/nTxuBcPprv

This is manhood defined in the year 2019 - and I'm 100% ok with that.
Now, if I could only get me one of them sandwiches...
CFA all day, Popeyes chicken was good though.
I am here for the same reason you are.

"The magic word's rock n' roll, Man!"
CFA spicy chicken sandwich for me. Those of you complaining about bland should try it.
I used to love the Wendy’s spicy chic sandwich before I moved to ATL.
CFA chicken is like McDonald's fries-the absolute gold standard, and everyone in the industry knows it..
Well, all the top chefs will tell you it's Popeyes... because it's Popeyes.
IMO, KFC original recipe is the best fired chicken (different from chicken sandwich). Popeyes is too greasy/overly crispy.
The quality of Popeyes has been in steady decline for years, IMO. Their checken tenders look more like breaded pencils.

Food quality is slipping, service was a total nosedive. I couldn't care less about service being bad by itself, but I legit had a drumstick with no curve. It was like two parallel lines where the meat wasn't any wider than the joint at the skinny end.
Actually, I do care about service, but only when they forget stuff in my order. Which they do. Pretty much every time. I love Popeye's, but they're making it not worth it to go anymore. Not worth the wait, not worth the hassle.
I think CFA is overrated but man, they do it right over there.
Having to sit there at the drive through window and look through the order to make sure they didn't mess it up is aggravating.
PG <3 PG
That's an issue I have with most drive throughs by me. No matter who KFC, CFA, etc. it's always dinner roulette.
It's maddening. HOW HARD IS IT?
Meh, Popeye's is ok. The sandwiches there, last I had them were alright. I think CFA is generally better. Their fries are good and there service is pretty good. I honestly prefer the chicken at places like Wendy's in general though. Strange as that may be.
SO GLAD others see the service at Popeyes and how terrible it is. We have one within a couple of miles of the house and I LOVE Popeyes but I can't tell you how many times I've had to sit in the parking lot after going thru the drive thru to wait 20 min for food and the f'ing order be wrong or worse about 30-40% of the time we roll thru there they are out of food. Like wtf, how can you be out of food so often? We went tonight ironically after my sons QB session with his coach and we rolled up and there was 7 cars in the drive thru and I was like F that lets go it. Big sign on the door, DRIVE THRU ONLY. so we sit in the line and I kid you not the guy comes on and says " Hi welcome to Popeyes, just to let you know we only have spicy dark meat chicken and mild tenders, we are completely out of everything else. I said umm ok we will have two 3 piece mild tender meals and they said ok for drinks we only have strawberry, root beer, coke and Ice tea. They said the reason they were out was because of the social media war between them and Chik Fil A this week and they got wiped out but it's insane how often they are out of food and it takes them forever to get your order. Great food but the absolute worst service in the industry.
"it matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
CFA is number one for a reason.
Everytime I've been to Popeyes in the last 5 years it's been subpar (both service and food) I won't be trying it, CFA FTW.
Chick-Fil-A Deluxe with American cheese.....point, set, match.
American and cheese do not belong in the sentence when refering to fast food.
Dude, "American" and "cheese" always belong in a conversation about fast food.
Only up north, because American and cheese and fast food are a mirage...
Then I'm not really sure what your cheese expectations are when you order a burger/sandwich from a fast food establishment. Gruyere? Smoked Guoda? Drunken Goat? It's all American cheese bro. If you get fancy cheese then you're eating at a restaurant, not fast food.
Do they still have the popeyes on Cleveland Avenue? I used to eat there twice a week. I love CFA and popeyes, but down south at least the service at popeyes is garbage and the food is sub-par. CFA is some of the best customer service on the planet.
counting the minutes until that thing comes firing out of my anus.
Popeyes was OK when I tried it years ago. CFA is good and their service is the best. Raising Canes has better chicken than both.
