A DJ? That sounds incredibly lame. I hate how “trendy” this program has become.
Word is he's gonna be wearing an alternate jersey for every game, too.

Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!
If it takes away time from the band I am going to pissed.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Please don't play country music. I'll never go to another game if they do.
Not to stereotype but this is a surprising take from a “Wyatt”.
Imagine the shit you'd stir if you said that about rap music LOL!
"Come on, you sons of b!tches! Do you want to live forever?" -- Dan Daly, WWI
Country and Rap both suck!...unless it's old school of either....play some Cash, Willie, RUN DMC, etc...I'm cool w/it.

This has to come from the same marketing MENSA's that a few years ago thought the PA announcer should copy EVERY OTHER SCHOOL and scream "That's another Ohio State FIRST DOWN!"
Lame doesn't even begin to describe how stupid and "Me Too" this is.
Buckeye football never.needed gimics and it doesn't now. What the hell are we, Central Michigan?

Nobody better break out dem fuggin gloooooowsticks yo
ill break that shiiii like I’m back at Fabric circa 2002
I saw “DJ in the Shoe” thought DJ Byrnes was going to be a halftime show or something. Wishful thinking I guess.
I don’t think DJs have been “trendy” since the mid-90s
playing everyone’s favorites to enhance the gameday environment.
Isn’t that what TBDBITL is for?
Class of 2001 - classless since then.
I mean...jebus! What idiot came up with this? I mean if only we had a uniformed group of people who could LIVE play music that is traditional for college football. Right on Denniscolumbus!

I’m wondering how they know what everyone’s favorites are
TBDDJITL — i think NOT.
I will give it a chance, but expect i will hate it
as long as the DJ does the wedding thing.. music for EVERYONE.. don't see it as a problem... but if the DJ is spinning only one kind of music it will get lame really quick.
The chicken dance should get ‘em fired up.
Not like the F'ing Macarena!

Hokey Pokey, anyone?
Line dancing at halftime?
I don't give a damn for the whole state of Xichigan.
That comment had me laughing out loud! Good one, Knarcisi.
It is time!!!!!
I found our wedding DJs doing coke in the parking lot when I went out to the car during dinner. To say that the party REALLY got going was an understatement.
I survived Cooper, and I hate Tai Streets.
If they mix up the genres then I'm willing to give it a chance. You can't cater to just the #teens, but you also can't just play AC/DC and Slayer like someone in the other thread suggested. My guess is anything that is played pre-game is going to be decided, in part, by the team as they will the ones warming up on the field, and the band is across the street at this time.
Can't downplay the fact that there is a recruiting element to this as well. I love TBDBITL as much as anyone, but a marching band rendition of songs from 40+ years ago just doesn't land the same way that it used to.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
This is the correct take. Well done sir
buckeye born and bread-cris carter
As long as they play music that is meant to pump the crowd up, I could care less what kind of music it is. Rap, "Classic" Rock, Jazz, Polka, doesnt matter as long as it serves the purpose and it's just not noise.
Slowly but surely, college football is moving toward a professional gameday experience, and that's sad. The last thing I want to hear at Ohio Stadium is the non-stop EDM/hip hop crap that fills nearly every minute of an NBA game.
Agreed, They think this will enhance the game day experience but my expectation is that this will be another reason to watch at home.
Maybe it will run some of the “SIT DOWN ALL GAME, I CAN’T SEE” crowd away though
What these guys don't realize is this is a plot to run out the wealthy and old people. By next year it will only be working class and families attending the games for $10/seat in A deck at midfield.
stop raising prices and the crowds will return
As long as they sell their tickets to keep the Shoe full, I’m all for running them off. I hated them when I was a student and I still can’t stand them 22 years later.
You do realize it's not a rock concert with festival seating. Standing all game is pointless
Oh, I totally realize that, and point well taken. The only folks that usually stand for most of the game are in Block O, and that expectation comes with the ticket. But, it's the near total lack of enthusiasm and interest shown by so many that gets to me. I understand folks pay a premium for premium seats, as I have done before both at OSU and for Steelers games. But when it's time to stand and expend some energy, either do it, or don't bitch when students and others around you do. All it does is create hostility between fans of the same team, which is pointless. The most extreme example I've ever seen was at an OSU basketball game, so I guess it comes with the territory.
Unless you’re excited for the game, which is why you’d be there
This got some DV’s but I agree. The old ppl that get mad because fans actually enjoy the game are annoying
I tried to upvote you 100 times but it didn't work.
I'm not trying to win a popularity contest. I'm trying to win football games-- Woody Hayes
What the hell.....that's what TBDBITL is for...ridiculous. That's what's special about college football, the unique flavor that bands/students/etc bring to the game....djs and crap like that make it too much like the NFL...hard pass.
will they still be playing football?

I saw Ryan Day hang 62 on Michigan...His hair was perfect.
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
I didn’t see this prior to my post NH, but my thought exactly. Lol.
This is my first “get off my lawn” here at 11w.
Lets work on keeping the nostalgia of our rich history and beloved program.
I can go to a corporate tailgate for a DJ.
The Glory Hole is way too glorious for his ugly mug.
Initial reaction was OMG, but depends on usage. They play music all the time anyway.
Just dont step on the toes of THE BAND!
I more worried about the playing on the field but this does have a lame tone to it
Too many commercials= too much dead time = boring game experience = lower attendance. Hence this band aid.
i love the buckeyes but go golfing on Saturday afternoons and watch the recording.
On Demand viewing of college football is everything. I’m a better husband and enjoy the games so much more. I’ll go to a game now and then so I don’t forget what it feels like. But Buckeyes with no commercials... absolutely.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
Lame. Lame. Lame. If you need that to enjoy a Buckeye game at the Shoe, you really shouldn't be there. Go home and turn on the radio or whatever.
If you have two people that agree on everything, that only means one of them is not thinking at all.
Sitting in the stadium during an extended commercial break is excruciating. I’m sure this is just something to try and break up that monotony and really not going to be that noticeable to anyone not paying attention
What they need to do is have an in stadium video recap for one minute before play resumes so you can get back into the action. After the long breaks at games I can’t get back into it right away.
No kidding. One thing the stadium is absolutely awful at is providing replays of non-TD plays on the Jumbotron.
Now that they’ll have WiFi, you can watch replays on your phone.
I thought it was a joke where someone spotted DJ Byrns the former staffer lol
My instant reaction on seeing the headline was "what's he done now?'
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
haha, i thought they hired him back and gave him a field pass to every game for the open thread. :P
I hope they have more commercial timeouts, so we can listen to the DJ....
Seriously though, did they finally replace the TV's on B deck? It also mentions seat backs, do all seats have backs now? Or will they when the renovation is complete?
Tomorrow is a New Day, when the Buckeyes take the Fields! :-)
I think I'm gonna hurl.
They know this isn’t the nba right?
I'm not so sure they do anymore, Smitty.
I am cool with it, I would love a DJ to psyche up a crowd when we are playing Youngstown State. The shoe is like a morgue most of the early season.
The lord of brevity.
You solve that by not playing Youngstown State and the like.
Uh, it was Youngstown State who gave you Jim Tressel. You remember, the guy who said: "I can assure you that you will be proud of your young people in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on the football field." He pretty much turned around the football program in one season. Perhaps you'd rather have stuck with Cooper?
YSU also has 4 national championships, all won on the field. Granted, it was I-AA. but they were playing similar size schools and they took home the trophy. The Buckeye's are great, but they still trail YSU on national championships won on the field!
Go pick on some other university.... say Florida Atlantic? At least with YSU, you are keeping the money within the state, not sending it to Florida.
Uh, from Youngstown, watched Tressel coach when he was there. I don’t give a damn about keeping a few hundred thousand dollars in state by playing YSU. I don’t want Ohio State playing any 1-AA teams.
And though it was seemingly a one time thing, we now have no right to slag any other 1-A teams for playing 1-AA teams (i.e. SEC’s Chickenshit Saturday).
Hence why I said "and the like". I have no issue with YSU or even FAU, but if people don't want the Shoe to be like a morgue in early season games, OSU needs to play stiffer competition.
As long as all the songs are Jamiroquai songs I’m cool with it and you should be too.
Beat Florida Atlantic
I have an insider that told me the DJ will be 11W's favorite troll:
They only had one song though.
You know the Pro's have those guys that make a ton of fucking noise all through the game trying to gin up fake enthusiasm as the teams loiter around during non-stop commercials. For the Cavs, the guy doesn't even stop during play anymore. He's just yelling over the PA and playing little sound clips like some kind of lame-ass....DJ.
That's why I stopped going to pro games.
Lmao I just came here for the “get off my lawn” comments. Innovate or get left behind. I like the modern approach to marketing that the program has embraced. This isn’t your grandfathers CFB, want to love in the past? Go watch ESPN classics or something. Idc if they play Jay Z or James Blake as long as it keeps the program relevant and continues to attract the best prospects
Really? A program like Ohio State does not need gimmicks like this. Not going to change how many people show up at the game, not going to change the level of enthusiasm at games.
We don’t need gimmicks? Have you seen the upgrades at the WHAC? The gimmicks are what make a good number of recruits choose one school over another.
Do you have any opinions that aren’t spoon fed to you by corporate HR or the Today Show?
At times like this I miss Neutron Man!
Best part...the Athletic Dept spends $500 Grand A GAME to outsource to a company to "enhance the gameday experience"
You "Old ass get off my lawn fans" kill me. Haven't heard one song and already crying. Nothing stays the same... nothing.
No dv from me Kwan, but you will (hopefully) be the " old ass fan" one day and it comes on you before you know it.
I think many fans fear that college football will morph into the NFL gameday experience. I hope that doesn't happen, but like you said, change is coming like it or not.
Just like new Coke! Change is always great!
You do know that not all change succeeds, right?
Change is not always great, but it is inevitable. And you can bet that if the DJ is as lame as you think, that will change too.
honestly they play music in between stuff and during commercials at the stadium now as it is. You probably won’t even notice the difference unless it just infuriates you that someone is playing the music instead of a playlist
"Everyone's favorites" lol
Free soft drink refills? Like bad health and obesity isn't already a national problem.
You know that no one is FORCING you to go get another refill? On a hot Saturday, a free refill sounds great to me, especially for the price you pay for the first drink! I suppose you blame the knife and fork for being fat, right?
free mixers !??! HELL YES
Have to cater to the attention span of this generation that wants to whine about how everything must change and nothing stays the same. Yeah, no shit Sherlock, but movement in the right direction isn't always the result of change. Having a frickin dj wreaks of desperation. Guarantee this leads to overwhelming backlash after the third game. WTF is wrong with people? You just paid $100 to watch a football game. But now you must have wifi and a dj to provide additional entertainments. Is Dave Brandon working in our AD now?
Why? Music already gets played, you don't need some whackjob hacking songs together. That just makes it worse.
Play a song over the speakers or let the band play during timeouts. Those should be the only two options.
It's sad all this junk is now needed for a game, in large part due to the long TV timeouts that have obliterated the joy of just being in the stadium for a game.
because when you're pricing yourself out of sellouts you need to find things to improve the gameday experience. who's to say if this will or won't but for them its worth a shot.
40+ year olds on 11W hitting "save" on their mini rants about millennials any time changes are made:
I’ll always bitch about godawful pop music, doesn’t matter what generation it’s from. Somehow I doubt this DJ will be playing much Chris Stapleton or Bone Thugz or the Dead Schembechlers. There’s more to music than an everlasting corporate HR dance party.
I’ll always bitch about
Trust me, we've all noticed lol
Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see in the world”. I want to see a change in the tolerance of shitty common denominator music tastes!
Who cares about the DJ honestly I mean we already play music that isn't TBDBITL, the band is still going to be the feature I'm sure.
What really raises my eyebrow are those grab and go coolers full of beer. How closely can something like that be watched with thousands of people mulling around? Seems like a potential issue.
This was my reaction as well. The people upset by this probably haven’t been to a game the past 5 years. They blast music all the time. The only difference will be a guy on the field
I’ve been to many games and the music doesn’t ruin it but they could tone it back some to make it better. They had a rap song with a guy basically moaning that they played nonstop last year. So I don’t like this because I picture more of those types of songs and the DJ acting all “clubby” all game.
“It’s 4th down!!!! Everyone make sommmmmeeee noooooiiiiiseeeee!!!!!”
“Introducing Ryan Ddddddddddd Dayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!”
Make em say uhhhhhh
Na nah na na
Na nah na na
They have them at every stadium these days but I think they started at the Cinci Reds stadium. I'm sure a few find away to walk away but they have cameras and security to minimize losses.
Long gone are the days of Stranglehold before every Nuge kickoff.
A frickin DJ????????????
Ya gotta be kidding me! What a tremendous insult for the BDBITL!
Playing recorded music is an NFL thing, because they have no bands.
Next thing they will want to have organ music like hockeye....lol
I want to enjoy the college game experience with no pre-recorded music and live bands.
When’s the last time you went to a game? They already play music over the loudspeakers at the stadium all the time. TBDBITL hasn’t gone anywhere.
Blue hair here. I disapprove unless the DJ spins me some 78's with Doris Day or Glenn Miller! Now down in front and stay off of my damn lawn!
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Well they did say they will play “everyone’s favorites” so if you’re in attendance I assume they will fire up some Doris Day. I think they will probably pass out request slips before kickoff to be collected by ushers and brought to the DJ by hand
Absolutely brilliant! We can have the cheerleaders holding up placards saying stuff like @OH and @IO or #GOBUCKS. Safe to say it will save the vocal cords of the cheerleaders while Grand Master DJ spins us up into a frenzy. New sound system and new big board commercials blaring at the same time could lead to some white noise. Innovatively thinking, we can change that label from white noise to Scarlet Haze and lay claim to putting the opposing team and fans into a catatonic state from the seizure inducing haze. Man you talk about "recruiting edge". I am almost sure that the person or persons who are the brain trust that handed in this Field DJ idea were the same people who came up with the Booger Mobile idea. But hey change is good. TBDBITL will be well rested come time for halftime. No more walking the decks or having to stand to play Hang on Sloopy. Hit the field without any pre halftime injuries like a pulled calf muscle or blown out lung or two. Mean while the band director will be uttering to himself the words we all have come to know and love after someone gives us an unsuspecting kick in the nuts or punch in the gut "I want to look them straight in the eye, and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-assed, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed, sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol? But hey, change is good.
You never lose to those pricks. Ever. Ever. Urban Frank Meyer
Good point Clark!
How about saving the money spent on gimmicks and using it to lower some ticket prices.
Exactly this. The people who will be drawn by a DJ are the ones who are less likely able to afford tickets. If anyone is going to be turned off by this, it's the older folks who can afford the ridiculously expensive seats. I guess the good thing is that maybe the "down in front" crowd may be driven away, but without lower prices that just leads to a more empty stadium...
One word - WHY?
Get ON my lawn!
I'm ready for some Buckeye football!
However, I'm not ready to be mesmerized by a DJ's idea of good music, in between snaps or whenever they are going to be blasting the stadium sound system with this crap.
Substituting a fired up Buckeye band with recorded music, quite possibly, eliminates an elemental, home field advantage.
For the most part the atmosphere is lame as is so I am up for anything that is new.
I have a feeling most people complaining about this haven’t been to a game in several years. They already play pre-recorded music. Unless you really want the band to play hang on sloppy 1,042 times or read the program again during a 10 minute commercial break, they are going to do something to try to keep the crowd entertained.
DJ on the field?
The only good thing about The Game is winning it - Urban Meyer
Did George Costanza leave his job in the Yankees office to pitch ideas to Gene Smith ? All cotton uniforms and now a DJ on the field. Well at least that $ 5 soft drink seems like only a minor price gouge now .
What is that, polyester? That's gotta be hot.
A lifelong dream of mine would be the whole stadium flooded with red light and the the Buckeyes coming out to Slayers Raining Blood. It'll never happen, but damn that would be awesome for us 80s kids. Make it happen DJ
Just paid $195 for a ticket to the OSU/MSU game...forget the damn music and the DJ--bring me a steak, baked potato, side salad, and a brewski, and I won't complain anymore about ticket prices.
KJ Hill breaks a tackle, Dashes to the middle of the field, has one man to beat....cuts it back and it’s a race for the end zone... Touchdown Ohio State
Wait wait. The band has been told to cease playing “Fight the Team” cause there is a new DJ now playing trying to excite some new recruits in the Horseshoe for the first time thinking we are in Green Bay ....
“I don’t wanna work. I’m gonna bang on the drum all day. Nothing beats that 1983 classic.
They made free refills a thing and the DJ is the headline? Get your priorities in order, 11W.
Maybe they can install t-shirt launchers and seat raffles as well (sarcasm).
You know you're quivering in anticipation to see who the Kiss Cam stops on up in C Deck.
would love 2 know whose dumbass idea this was ?!
The scoreboard is already deafening. I want to hear more of the band.
Me too, x2 apparently, Tom.
Who's going to watch the game? Everyone will be on the WIFI accessing the net to check their latest purchases or cool tweets from celebrities. Lots of folks will be looking at their phones more than the actual game.
No need for the gimmicks, specially no need for WiFi, now tons of fans will be on their phones throughout the game ugh. Here comes even more selfies ugh ugh ugh
After every snap you hit'em and you hit'em and you hit'em if you feel you didn’t hit'em enough hit'em some more
You never lose to those pricks. Ever. Ever.

Yes, let's get it started and turn this mutha out. Pump up the jam. I'm hyped. Feel it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Free refills means longer lines at the trough.
a hard rock miner from Butte, Montana
They should do like the Carolina Panthers do. Buy your first drink with the cup at regular concession stands, then place refill stations on the opposite sides of the concourse. First time I’ve seen that. Brilliant idea.
These god damn idiots!! ALL I WANT TO HEAR IS THE BAND. It blows when you go and mostly hear some crappy music blasting everywhere. That’s not college football. Go old school. A song here and there but mostly the band doing band things. Holy crap already
We are just "Free tickets with purchase of a Coca Cola product" away from entering Dave Brandon territory
You don't have to attend every argument you are invited to.
You guys need to realize they already play a lot of music at the games. Adding a DJ is all about making the game atmosphere cooler for recruiting. You won’t notice much of a change. You’ll still hear the band
Its Football... the pageantry of CFB has got so outta control, they can't go back. I mean TTUN took their team on African Safari this year? Team building is outta control in some places, maybe he should save that coin and put more of an effort towards the best rivalry from days GONE by. Wild to even think that a "Xichigan Xan" who delivered on his own guarantee has lost focus of what its even all about. I thank God for Tress every day, not for him what is the record of the last 16 games. As a Buckeye fan, I can speak for many when I say, we were beat down by the time Tress arrived. Things can change on a dime, I hope Day totally understands and gets this.
Ok so we all like the marching band tradition. I get that but two things.
You can bet your ass that the first time the band played Hang On Sloopy a bunch of traditionalists popped a hemorrhoid. Now it’s tradition.
20 years ago when Bobby Huggins was at Cincinnati, I was invited to a game there. Wow!! one if the cheerleaders was an mc coordinated with a booth dj and they kept that place over the edge with energy. I was shocked at the showy spectacle. The opponents were definitely at a massive disadvantage. The students left hoarse with no vocal chords to speak with.
For me I personally don’t like marching band music but yes I do love the TBDBITL at the shoe. But fortunately I don’t think I read anywhere that the band will go away any time soon.
The UC dance team in an indoor arena of 8k and a DJ in the Shoe are hardly comparable............
True. But pro football used to have marching bands too. They changed a long tone ago and have managed. And that is somewhat more comparable. That said., I do love the tradition of college football.
I would love for Eleven Warriors to interview band director Chris Hoch and get his views and opinions on introducing a competing musical format into the mix of things. Electronic musical recordings should be left out of the equation. You could expect this at much lesser programs that need gimmickry to fill empty seats, but not The Ohio State University.
Hoch can’t say anything against the monster tOSU, Inc. machine. How they crushed the last director is enough evidence of that. (#istillstandwithjonwaters). Hopefully, though, this won’t effect the amount of TBDBITL we hear this year. I understand that they already have segments of time where the band directors get told to play or not play so the university can sell crap on the scoreboard or show us someone sitting in a Value City recliner. Whether this idea makes it worse remains to be seen. They have a mega-million dollar business to run and, trust me, they are going to run it to maximize their profits
I am an old fart and long time season ticket holder but I’m on my feet a lot (I actually warn the people behind me at the beginning of the season that I will definitely be standing at least every third down defensive play and, frankly, a whole lot more). The quiet, hand sitting fans (who are old AND young honestly) drive me crazy but it’s ALWAYS been that way even when I first started going to games as a kid (and, no, that wasn’t back when Chic Harley was still playing).
I don’t love the endless commercial breaks either but those aren’t going away. IMO tho, we don’t need constant blaring noise and commercials on the scoreboard during all those breaks. The players don’t and aren’t going to jump around all hyped up during these breaks, live music or not. They are catching their breath so I also don’t need more of it whether live or piped in. Give us a minute to relax too and then get us back to the college football we came to watch. Just my $.02.
We have to do something... sorry for being real but people sitting on their hands not cheering isn’t a home field advantage. People were mad at urban the other day for calling the swamp the toughest environment. Yet most the fans at an OSU game aren’t into the game. Also recruits might enjoy it and that’s what matters not how we all feel on message boards. I get the tradition of everything I do it’s why I love college football but we cannot just dismiss this simply because it’s not how it’s always been
this has the stench of IMG all over it
How about adding nonconference games against San Jose State, Arkansas State and Western Kentucky to “enhance” the game day experience? Oh, wait.
I hate it...
Once again, the administration is missing the real game day opportunity. During the interminable TV timeouts, combine technology with football by video replaying the Big Ten officials' greatest hits, such as the Denzel getting tossed in the Maryland game, Urban getting an unsportsmanlike penalty when his sliding quarterback gets earholed by a no-call spear, whatever has happened in-game, etc. That will keep all of us fired up in The Shoe!!! Go Bucks!!
let's sell raffle tickets to dot the I, maybe they will put the dj on wheels and he can be the drum major, zipline onto the field.
maybe they will take requests for a donation
Having a DJ is to enhance the experience for the players and recruites not the spectators in the stands. The players and recruites want the hip hop. They don't care about the bands. The players and recruites fall in love with all the alternative jerseys. Look at the modernization of the locker rooms. Everything is done from a recruiting standpoint.
Hate to break it to you but football players don’t give a rat’s ass about what the stadium is playing when they are playing or getting ready to play- they have headphones or natural adrenaline for a reason.....
Joker. You ain’t jokin. Good points.
The vast majority of Ohio State fans purchase their ticket expecting to get pumped and hear the great sounds of the BDBITL. The vast majority don't want to be hearing rather offensive at times, recorded rap crap blaring from the speaker system. I have no problem with recorded music during pre-game warmups, but once we stand for the National Anthem, it should be exclusively, student athletes, student musicians and student cheerleaders running the show. Hope this bad idea is a failed, one year experiment.
the dj isn't the biggest concern, my biggest concern is all electronic ticketing for students. All they need is a wifi crash and thousands of students won't be able to get in or it is operating slow and you can't get in before kickoff and there are thousands waiting outside the gates blowing up twitter
i know it is a small percentage of students, now you have to a have a smart phone and bring it to the game. I like to leave those things in the car and enjoy the game.
They had the same issue with the Taylor Swift concert and the "solution" was to tell people to make sure they downloaded their tickets before they got to the game. And in what should have been a surprise to exactly no one, thousands of people showed up and tried to download their tickets on site. This isn't about technology, it's about making it more difficult for students to resell their tickets, because Lord forbid anyone should make a dime from OSU football other than THE (tm) university.
i would agree with you on the universities desire to limit the students from transferring tickets
