Looking forward to seeing Meyer being candid and honest about CFB this year. Something tells me we're gonna hear less of "these are the best guys I've ever been around" and more real takes.
"Medicine is not a science" - Leo Spaceman
If he wants to keep doing this he is going to have to say Xichigan....I would think, he has to look unbiased even though we know better...
As long as he gets to call him Jimmy Boy.
This pleased me. Thank you.
As long as he can get by for the first few weeks, I wouldn't think that name would come up..
As long as he's not saying they're gonna lose to Rutgers I'd think saying TTUN would be acceptable.
After November 30, they'll be no reason to talk about tun.
I don't give a damn for the whole state of Xichigan.
Bonus rating points if he says "screw the Skunkweasels".
I think he has made it through all of the interviews with Cowherd without saying it. He’s pretty good at being respectful without having to let that filth come out of his mouth.
Yeah I noticed that too!
Personally I think it would be absolutely hilarious if FOX and Meyer figured out 100 ways to never say "Michigan" . Or, if he does, make it a drinking game.

"If Chase Young is truly bigger than I think he is and taller than I think he is, he would probably have to be the literal Predator because I've seen him with my own two eyes and I personally think he's pretty damn Sasquatchian." - Kevin Harrish
I can live with that. And Tressel for POTOSU
If you die before you die, then you won't die when you die.
It will be nice to see the cameras catching Meyer on TV doing something other than wretching and wincing. I'll give the show a shot, although Mrs. BuckeyeRy is pretty set on watching Gameday.
I have enjoyed the Fox Sports programming over ESPN. For what it’s worth, FOX had sports show hosts who treated the 2018 controversy with a lot more objectivity than ESPN. I don’t think there was any way Meyer could have even worked over there after the way they torched him. Excited about having Joel Klatt and Gus Johnson calling the first game of the season for OSU!
Oh YEAH! I love that those guys are calling the game!! Big fan of those guys. Will always love Klatt be/ca he torched that douche from Tennessee, Clay Travis - and he had NO come back. It was beautiful. And Gus...I mean nothing needs to be said about that man!
I quit watching GameDay when Lou Holtz left. It's gotten way too goofy.
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
Nice to see Brady Quinn finding work.
Didn’t work with my Brownies but he’s an analyst across many platforms and I tend to find him insightful.
He learned football in Ohio. Of course he is insightful.
Brady Quinn did great, he blew away Reggie and Matt. Brady Quinn is going to have a long and successful career on that show. Very impressive poise, presence and insight.
He finally found his real life work .... as a QB he was ho-hum...
We all would be ho-hum if AJ Hawk crushed you on the field while banging your sister.
The more he talks about life after football, the more I believe that Urban Meyer is done coaching.
(and i never doubted him to begin with)
Notice Meyer's tie is cardinal and gold? If that isn't a tip of the hat to USC then I don't know what is.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
Hence, the following is stated with emphasis by Meyer, to certain folks who might be listening and could be prefaced with, Unlike, at Florida, "AND LIKE I SAID, IT’S EVERY COACH’S DREAM TO BE WELCOMED BACK AND BE AROUND THE PLAYERS AND BE AROUND THE COACHES AND KNOW THAT THEY’RE APPRECIATIVE, AS WELL.”– URBAN MEYER ON ATTENDING OHIO STATE PRACTICES THIS OFFSEASON."
Yeah that’s a big difference from Florida. He’s like the dad/grandpa of the current program and players
He certainly didn't "leave the Buckeye cupboard bare," as Gator fans claim he did at UF.
So you think he’s been lying about his health issues?
I'll be watching! I've have become frustrated by ESPN's College Gameday. Besides the obvious SEC bias, the show has become too long and rambling. When Chris Fowler left as host the show's quality dipped in my opinion, and they've added too many other voices to the mix with not enough focus on actual football. I believe Urban has a great football mind and will add valuable insight to the new show.
I agree with this. The commentators on College Gameday say a lot without really saying much of substance. I would like to see a guest college coach on that show who does not have a stake in any of the big games of the day who can give a X's and O's break down of the key matchups and get on the white board and show what schemes of offense and defense each team will try to employ. The coach could even give a break down of how to stop those schemes of defense and how the offense would adjust.
I haven't watched Game day in quite a few years. Only watch live sports when forced to tune in
Both fox sports and ESPN will serving their Disney overlords anyway.
That sucked when Disney bought FOX. Like, can’t I enjoy one thing without it being owned by corrupt Disney?
Agreed. Although Chris Fowler was a jerk. And no friend of Urban or OSU.
I am looking forward to watching Urban and the analysis he provides during the season! I love listening to him talk about football as well as the behind the curtain stuff! I also enjoy Reggie, Matt, and Brady - they bring decent insight, but a lot more natural, smooth, not forced friendship and humor to the program! I'm hooked already
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
I really think Urban will do a fantastic job on television. His coaching days at OSU just seemed to fly by. Urban Legend will be missed as a coach. Every time I listen to Ryan Day speak, I am impressed by him. And he and his staff have shown they really know how to recruit. So, since we lost a legend, this is hoping that the new staff will be as successful.. Can't wait to get this season going. But, not having Urban as our coach will take some time to get used too as well GO BUCKS!
Of course there will be threads dissing Mr. Meyer when he utters his first hot take that is not 100% complimentary to the Buckeyes.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Already happened the other day when he said Florida was the best environment he coached in lmao ppl are ruthless man
If you take everything I’ve accomplished in my life and condense it down to one day, it looks decent!
Meyer had the personality of aluminum siding on ESPN but maybe he's more relaxed and if he's truly done coaching he won't need to hold back on any and all commentary
Aluminum siding gains a lot more character is it gets dinged up and damaged.
So, due to Buckeye Nation alone, will GameDay see a bit of a drop in ratings? I know I'm tuning in to Fox.
Fox's coverage blows espn away, cant wait to watch. Gameday needs to can Rece Davis and howard, those two are like nails on a chalk board. Make the panel herbie, polluck, corso, Galloway and Maria Taylor and it might be watchable again. Also quit the sec suck off fest.
Bring Erin Andrews back too.
Yes for sure! I forgot about EA.
Never cared for EA. Very overrated to me. Don’t like Polluck either. He’s very anti-Buckeye
Um, is that a BLUE BLAZER, MR. MEYER!?
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.
Props to 11W/Dan getting this phone call/article
"Year for what?"
Urban, Please please please refer to them as That Team Up North! That would be so spectacular.
Fields of Dreams
I get that they have to curb his (or any analyst's) bias, but they could also make a joke out of it and let him say TTUN.
I despise when football guys stand around a fake football field set, awkwardly move around and giggle like they are school kids. Who acts like that in their normal life?
Barney Fife lives, and he lives amongst us.
<quietly disassembles fake football field set in basement...>
I may eat crow but I'm going on record and betting Urban will not say xichigan…...I think it will be some form of ttun
I'm sure Urban will be great as a TV personality, unfortunately I will never see a minute of Fox's Big NOON kickoff - which airs at 11am. Gameday is by far the best (and one of the few remaining good) program ESPN produces, and has been a tradition in my college football life for 15 years.
Also not a fan of noon kickoffs, and it looks like we are going to be featured prominently in them this season.
Gameday is by far the best...
It's funny how two people can watch the exact same thing, and one guy says that thing is the best, 'by far,' and the other guy says that it's the worst, by far. GameDay, for me, is unwatchable. Corso is pitiful... like a 15-year-old dog who has participated in the Westminster kennel club competition for years, but who now must be carried over the obstacles and coaxed through the tunnels... Desmond Howard is the very personification of the word buffoon, and Herbstriet and Pollack are too arrogant and conceited to watch without vomiting from the narcissism.
He's gonna coach sooner than later. Glad it ain't here. His play calling was atrocious
Did I miss the sarcasm font?
I don't give a shit if he called "Dave up the B gap" every damn play. The guy managed to win 85% of his games over a 15 freakin year HC career...including 2 Nattys and a 3rd year his team went undefeated...and over 90% of his games here. Your hot take is absurd.
"including 2 Nattys"
including 2 3 Nattys
oops...you fixed it yourself!
I could be wrong, but honestly I don't really see Urban doing this much more than a year. I think at the end of the college football season you'll see him coaching another college team.
Not trolling...but he is not great communicator for tv...still talks in 4-6, a-z and other wristband slogans. Colin gives him the mi imum 10 minutes and moves on to what Brady or Bron had for breakfast.
ttun 2019 offense...same pig, different lipstick.
I don't see that happening at all. His wife is not for it at all. I am sure he will have the itch to do it, but it sounded like he was barely able to keep going at times. Sometimes you forget that when it is over, but Shelly is not in on it. Unless that changes I just do not see it.
I would be more sure he is out of the coaching game. Even if he much rather not be. I get the vibe he would prefer to be coaching at OSU for longer if he was not having issues.
Seems like he has a pretty solid setup to me. Still gets to mentor/consult with Ryan Day, gets to talk shop and watch games while working for both Fox and BTN, is able to connect and work with student athletes/team captains for all of the varsity teams in Columbus, is part of a leadership podcast with Tim Kight, will have a stake in a restaurant in Dublin, gets to spend quality time with his wife, kids and grandkids. He also gets to do all of that without his cyst blowing up.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong - but packing up all that and moving to LA for a rebuild...I don't know man. Maybe I have Urban pegged completely wrong, but it seems like life is pretty damn good from my perspective.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
If he was to get healthy with some sort of drug or operation I could see it but without that I don't see him coaching and if he did I think it would be at The OSU... I don't think he really wants to pack up and move onto something that would add that much stress and upheaval with his health as it is...
I think you would be right IF he didn't have the health concerns. But if that was the case, he would more than likely still be coaching @ tOSU.
if it was only coaching Urban might coach again but i think after getting a real good taste of the dirty political correctness bullshit that goes along with it all nowadays he's done with it for good....
You are right! Also the president of THE Ohio State University did nothing to help him last summer when the crap hit the fan. Being an OSU alum, I believe that this president should get his walking papers!
“Being average means you are as close to the bottom as you are to the top.” John Wooden
Urban Meyer is one of the Legends or college football. Everyone knows who he is, and he should revel in who he is and what he has accomplished. He was hired for his accomplishment, his perspective, and his mind. He is an Ohioan, and a former OSU coach who won a NC in Columbus. Nobody would knock him for referring to UM as “that team up North,” and while I think it is a small thing objectively, he should embrace it. Embrace your history and fandom and your roots. Don’t say “Michigan”. People know him and respect him. They will appreciate that he has an opinion and a past. Do it.
Did Hoke still refer to OSU as "Ohio" after he got canned at UM?
Naw, he went back to stuffing McRibs and donuts into his mouth.
I personally think GameDay has gotten stale and goofy. Haven't watched in years.
I am looking forward to watching Urban, but must admit that I will miss Wannstadt and Leinart taking the piss out of each other.
Love how insanely busy Urban is. He's def. trying to make a go at this life, that's for sure. Seems to really reflect on being with his family more. That can get really easy to get used to. I'm watching FOX from day one. F ESPN.
Urban Meyer could always call TTUN "The Wolverines"
"Asked whether he will refer to Michigan by name or continue to call the Wolverines “the team up north,” Meyer said that’s still “to be determined.”
It would be so great if he never mentions them by mame throughout his broadcasting career as well.
Also, his actions really don't seem like the actions of someone who plans on returning to the sidelines. I'm in agreement with most of my friends when I say that I believe he won't be returning to the sidelines unless it's at Ohio State again.
Sick day when we play MYTHigan. Fuck them, don't ever say that trashy word.
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
Wait, of course he won’t say Michigan on live TV. He has a new name for them as I recall.
”You never lose to those pricks, never.”
Hopefully he will use this new name.
Glad you let me know he's ready. I wouldn't have been able to sleep last night if you hadn't advised that a massively successful and winning multi millionaire was ready to do his job.
Very glad he's ready and enjoying more time with his family.
More glad that coach Day will lead us into an amazing season.
The playoff committee laughed the last 2 years when we were mentioned in December. That will change this year.
That bitch howard should be canned for his stupidity and his mouth. I miss the days of May vs Holtz..Corso should have been retired years ago.
Watched the Fox pre-game and half-time shows today. Will be watching them every Saturday, so long ESPN Gameday! (I will miss the great signs though...) I enjoyed the easy camaraderie on the set, and the vibe. I thought Urban looked relaxed and comfortable, both with his assignment and with his cohorts. Matt and Reggie especially looked happy to have him with them. I'm looking forward to watching them this season. And I love me some Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt.
